Classical-style Roman Catholic cathedral on an old pagan temple site with 11 side chapels.
The imposing whitewashed cathedral deserves its place as the center piece of Vilnius. Its creates a wonderful atmosphere with the bell tower, open square, and the old castle in the background.
The cathedral is built in 1801, in classicism style. Big square, suitable for big gatherings of people.
Looks so cool from inside cant wait to go and check the dungeons aswell
What a stunning building and the quirky bell tower is fantastic. A wonderful place ❤️
You must visit .....important piece of Polish & Lithuanian history
An impressive cathedral in the heart of central Vilnius. Maybe not the biggest in Europe, but still really magnificent on the inside. A must visit on a Vilnius trip.
Absolutely incredible place
Argumentatively one of the biggest and maybe the capital church/cathedral in Vilnius, a sarcophagus of history and culture, which you can visit any day of the week + you can request a tour around the catacombs of the cathedral.
The cathedral is more ornate on the exterior and quite simply inside, although worth a quick visit as free. If you want to visit a tour for panoramic views, ld suggest the university tower as higher.
Amazing view, this historic place tells a lot of stories, nice place for tourists, many restaurants and more around the place. A must for tourists.
It’s ok. Nothing particularly special. Apparently the basement is hugely interesting and is open on certain days (which requires a reservation too). I couldn’t visit the basement so have to say the rest of the cathedral was rather mundane.
Great historical site, but toomutc chanes on the bulilding after it was reconstructed. The old barokk style building would be nicer for me.
The Cathedral Basilica of St Stanislaus and St Ladislaus of Vilnius is the main Roman Catholic Cathedral of Lithuania. It is situated in Vilnius Old Town, just off Cathedral Square.Dedicated to Saints Stanislaus and Ladislaus, the church is the heart of Catholic spiritual life in Lithuania.Architectural style: Neoclassical architectureOpened: 1783
It’s a beautiful Cathedral in the heart of Vilnius. It’s a must to visit.
Def a must see! Try to make it a combo with the Palace of the Duke of Lithuania for a half a day experience. Totally worth it!
Nice architectural sightseeing- heart of Vilnius! Monumental and very photogenic object.
Celebrating palm day 🌿🇱🇹 near Vilnius katedral.Amazing experience, beautiful flowers and tradition.
Very beautiful! At 8 pm there is a whole bell performance coming from the bell tower
Beautiful place in a heart of Vilnius
A charming square with lots of history and landmarks of the Lithuanian people. Very nice and pleasant not to forget to turn around 3 times on Miracle Tile
The Cathedral Square is a buzz with energy around Christmas. Stalls, lights performances etc.
Vilnius Cathedral in VilniusVisited on 1/10/2019The full name is The Cathedral Basilica of St. Stanislaus and St. Ladislaus. There are two architectural structures - the Cathedral and the Bell Tower. The Cathedral was rebuilt several times as a result of frequent fires, wars and unstable soil under its foundation. The building currently reflects the Classicist style, not entirely that spectacular, but the altar and the walls in a couple of the chapels have magnificent Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque art works. On the roof of the Cathedral are the three statues of Sts. Stanislaus, Helena and Casimir. The Bell Tower, next to the Cathedral, is one of the symbols of Vilnius. The city’s oldest clock at the top of the tower chimes its bells to invite people to mass.
The Cathedral is beautiful, different i. appearance to most Cathedrals I have visited. Magnificent.
Had a chance to visit this place, really special atmosphere, wont leave you without some good feelings. Beautiful outside and inside.Mass/liturgy was also good
You can not refuse to see this place because it’s the main square of the old town and actually it’s nice to visit. Gives a different sense to Vilnius.
Vilnius Cathedral is the city’s main Roman Catholic cathedral and has been a national symbol for ages. From outside it doesn’t look much like a cathedral, more like a library or museum in fact. The church took on various guises over the next 400 hundred years, and today’s building is largely the result of a late 18th-century French Classicist facelift which stands in contrast to much of the Baroque architecture found in the Old Town. Under Soviet rule, it was used as a warehouse and a picture gallery.
Fantastic place to visit, to relax or to go to museum, or just to observe local life
For a Cathedral, it was relatively simple in its internal decoration. Nonetheless, it was a quiet place of devotion and much visited by local people.
Very big cathedral inside. Beautiful light show outside. The best Christmas tree near!
In the very heart of Vilnius, this Cathedral dominates the centre of Vilnius. It`s stunning from both inside & outside and. Also, it`s the organic part of the history of Vilnius. For this instance, it shouldnt be missed and recommended for everyone to visit & to find out a bit more about this place & its history.
The Cathedral Square area is one of the popular spot of Vilnius. The street has beautiful building around and surely an awesome place to take a walk along at any time of the day. The area also has some popular restaurant and pubs to binge on.
Its the place to see when in Vilnius, not my choice of most beautiful cathedral given its style, but even so worth it and the bell tower yielded some beautiful pics
Beautiful lights at Christmas tume and clean city.
Best of the best. Main Cathedral of Lithuania. Amazing place to visit, highly recommend
Vilnius Cathedral, located in Cathedral Square, is by far the most famous church in Vilnius and often acts as a symbol of the city. It was was built from the 13th century through to the 15th century, but has been reconstructed several times due to flooding from the Neris River. Both the Vilnius Cathedral and its underground crypts are well worth a visit.Standing tall at 52 meters, the Cathedral Bell Tower provides excellent views of Vilnius’ old and new towns. Visitors will be able to spot church spires, clay roof tiles, and the winding Neris River from atop the bell tower.
Although from the outside it doesn’t look like the most impressive of cathedrals there’s a lot of beauty when you get up close. Intricate carvings on the ceiling and statues on the adjacent walls are worth taking a few moments to discover up close. The square outside gives plenty of space to admire the building from every angle and the clock tower makes it even more unique against other cities. It’s a relaxing spot, great for photos with the castle hill in the background, and any visit to the city wouldn’t be complete without a visit.
Located in Cathedral Square, Vilnius Cathedral is Lithuanias spiritual centre. The cathedral is said to be built on 12 layers of foundations and the original religious structure on the site was constructed almost 800 years ago. Since then the cathedral has been damaged and renovated numerous times over the centuries. Todays magnificent structure houses many imposing works of art. The bell tower is in a separate and equally imposing building adjacent to the cathedral.
Beautiful cathedral and its free! End of the day though its another big church, so if youve already seen fifty on your trip this one doesnt have anything exceedingly unique inside.
Amazing architecture having rich heritage, a must visit for any traveler to walk around and also watch the changing colours in early morning and at twilight.
The biggest church in Vilnius. In my opinion the most interesting part is the bell tower. You can go to the top of the tower and see the original bells and their wood structure. Really interesting. Suggested
Its a nice, calm, quite place to visit. There is a monument on a hilltop nearby with ramped staircase access (not motorable). There is a musuem, which is open till 6 PM (8 PM on weekends); There are very lively streets nearby with lots of restaurants. You can see young children doing skateboarding around the Cathedral; Young & old criss-crossing the Cathedral grounds on their electric scooters; tourists taking photographs.Nice place to spend an evening in summer months. We visited on Aug 12 & day light was there beyond 9 PM.
It is magnificent. Id say the most touristic place in all of Vilnius. There are a lot of tourist attractions around the cathedral. Id suggest you go to the cathedral first and then walk around the area.
If you find the typical cathedral too chintz and over-adorned, then Vilnius Cathedral is a welcome antidote. Yes there is a gold cross on the roof, but its a beautiful landmark. The bell tower is well worth paying to go inside.
Vilnius Cathedral is probably the best located cathedral that Ive seen. Owing to the wonderful location and setting, it and the immediate surroundings attract many many young people and passers-by. Amazing history, and probably my No 1 pic for a cathedral in Europe that Ive come across.Inside, it has a lovely but also understated elegant beauty. This is quite unusual and nice... personally I find the internal decoration, if you like, of cathedrals a little over the top. One doesnt need that in a religious facility.Nearby is the river, several major historic sites, and of course the main Promenade of the city.Amazing location and beauty.
Another landmark of Vilnius. The shear size and white appearance of the cathedral is very impressive. Taking a walk around the cathedral square on a breezy summer day or night is enjoyable. The museum of Grand Duke of Lithuania, National Museum and the Gedimino tower are just within distance.
Pretty big square in the center of Vilnius. Was there when they prepared some festival at the beginning of june. The cathedral doesnt look pretty or impressive, cause it burned down a couple of times. In soviet times it was used for something useful, but when Lithuania became independent they had to put church stuff back in the building.Around the cathedral square youll find shops, restaurants etc.Dont forget to step on the tile saying "miracle", turning around 3 times and make your wish come true ;D
Vilnius Cathedra is truly beautiful outside, inside or rather interesting but not spectacular.
Magnificent mother church of the archdiocese of Vilnius. The chapel of St Casimir (where the saints remains are interred over the altaris especially stunning. Be sure to go up the bell tower for a great view. In the bell tower, you can get tickets for a tour of the crypts beneath the cathedral. This is one of the best tours you can get in Vilnius!
With the outside covered in scaffolding the Vilnius cathedral still evokes a grand scale. The building and it’s history are old. There are foundations of former pagan temples, a crypt with famous polish and Lithuanian aristocracy and its current neoclassical architecture sort hides this antiquity. The cathedral is dedicated in part to St. Stanislaw and St. Ladislaus. Just outside is cathedral square and city bell tower.
The Cathedral Basilica of St Stanislaus and St Ladislaus of Vilnius aka Vilnius Cathedral is one of the most beautiful Catholic cathedrals in Lithuania! The cathedral is situated at the border of Vilnius Old Town, just off of Cathedral Square and is surrounded by a beautiful park! The cathedral is open for visitors and is one of the «must see» spots in Vilnius!
