Hügel 15, 45133 Essen, Germany, Duisburg
The country mansion of 19th-century industrialist Alfred Krupp, with ornate interiors & parkland.
The ticket costs 10€. But inside there are few rooms to see. Beautiful park, this is where you should take a walk.
Impossant.
Theres no english translation, so if you dont speak German theres no way to know more about the place
Cool villa but there are not a lot of rooms you are allowed to visit
pretty
Visiting the villa today with our son and my sister who happens to visit us in the NL. The villa itself is very beautiful, but our visit was unfortunately nothing more than an uncomfortable experience. Two staffs were very friendly, but many of of them were very rude, disrespectful and annoying. Told us to not making a video or panoramic picture which is understandable. But that would be great if they told us in a nicer and friendly way to inform us. Then one lady came and told my son off, to not play with his car toy on something. He didnt even touch that, we wont let him do that! We kept our eyes on him and stayed close to him all the time. From that moment, that lady kept following us and kept looking at our son as if he is a criminal really! It was very uncomfortable and very disappointing, we wont recommend this place to anyone. What a waste!:-(
Historically and aesthetically very interesting. I perfectly understand why Visconti wanted it as the set of his film
Spacious beautiful park with old green trees. Big house with perfectly saved furniture, walls and cealings
The places are beautifully maintained and the park very relaxing. By its history and beauty, this place should be visited.
Entry ticket covers the grounds and a self-guided tour of the villa.
Villa Hügel - more like a castle with Italien or French flair. Impressive to see how the Krupp dynasties lived there from 1880 to 1945.Fair price of 5 EUR to visit. You should plan 1 hour for the house and at least 1-2 hours for the park / gardens.
Beautiful villa with some troubled past links to WWII.
Pretty nice place for a walk around. The museum doesnt have a ton of information but the house is very beautiful.
Really nice guided tour with a lot of interesting information about the family Krupp
I can say that it was a good experience of my to Visit that Palace. Its really Magnificent.
very interesting fairytale place with aristocratic spirit! the place is very good for weekend walks. with the Great Garden and the spirit of the whole estate one manages to abstract from the energetic modern city life
Nice museum, historically interesting, beautiful halls and enormous villa nice location for a (partialday activity.
Beautiful place to visit, but when taking pictures we were discouraged a lot. At least when I used my nice camera instead of my phone....If you want to get a nice photo of yourself in a nice place, dont go here. Otherwise its a nice place to visit.
A visit to the Villa Hügel and the park surrounding it is definitely worthwhile. The admission fee is also very reasonable at 5 euros. The signage is either ineffective or missing. As you approach the site, you come face to face with a barrier, which does not go any further. There is a small sign that reads "cash register.". To get to the ticket booth, you have to park in the middle of the street. Security is cashing in and opening the barrier. As I drove up to the barrier for the first time, I turned around. My first thought was that it couldnt possibly be a driveway.
Very impressive place with a good overview of the history of the Krupp family.
Pretty interesting place to visit. Doesnt take more than a couple hours
Impressive! Definitely worth a visit. Youll need roughly two hours. Visit recommended on a sunny day, so you can have a long walk through the amazing park.
Spectacular villa and estate grounds. An attraction not to be missed in Essen, Germany.
Amazing building but dark history. I didnt feel comfortable inside the building knowing the history of the family.
Lovely place, very interesting and great gardens to explore
Ive seen a few castles and museums in my day.I am not sure if I am being fair, historical building with large ballrooms and art work of the family.I was very disappointed nothing to show life of the family. No video but you can take pictures, verboten... just incase you cannot climb the staircase....
If you are interested in knowing more about the house the elite used to Live in in previous centuries this is a good choice. Inside is beautiful. From outside you just see stones but the moment you enter everything becomes wooden, even the floor which screams under your steps.I mostly like the office and the library. The view from house is fantastic.
The Villa Hügel in Essen was home to the industrialist Krupp family from 1873 to 1945. With its 269 rooms, set in the middle of a 28-hectare park overlooking Lake Baldeney, it is far more than simply the residence of a famous entrepreneurial family – it is a symbol of the Age of Industrialisation in Germany.Today, the Villa Hügel is owned by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung.

Cool, not very big but they have a superb room exhibition.. And also quite an exhibition about the development of the Krupp company. So detail from A-Z.
The country home of the Krups family. Awesome stately home, lots of history, pictures, nicely maintained grounds. Carpark for lots of cars, great walks, amazing story. A great day trip for German history buffs.
Villa Hugel was closed during the times I went there but it the park behind it was very majestic and beautiful. There is a lot of history here that is quite fascinating!
Incredible mansion ! You can stroll around the main house and admire the quality and luxury of an old villa. The paintings in the main hall are well reserved and the second floor has an extraordinary ceiling .Villa Hügel löst 1 Star because the admission could not speak very well English. Also every description in the second part of the villa was in German only. Its a pitty for the Essen to have such a precious exhibition and one tourist can not enjoy it because of language.I have to say they had a small brochure in English but one could clearly see that it was a fast and easy solution.
Quite far from mass tourism although it is the first museum Ive ever seen which doesnt have the descriptions in english. So you can fully enjoy it only if you understand german.
nice villa, a lot of space, nice wooden work, 1 kind lady from the staff, unfortunately only very few rooms are opened to public. I wanted to visit more rooms ;-)
For those who dont speak German:Very interesting Villa/museum. Worth going for an hour or two, but everything is in German. No English tour guides (upon request ahead of time but I tired that and got no reply?), no English audioguides, no English signs. So youll be going just to see the amazing rooms and style. If you have €5 to spare (price as of September 2019), and a couple hours to pass, worth coming by! I wish I could have understood more of the history/facts though.
Interesting place to visit its beautiful and full of industrial history. Just look at the pictures!
Really beautiful wooden interiors and nice surroundings
Interesting place in Essen.
Interesting place well worth a guided tour
If you expect a huge museum with a lot of artwork then you are wrong here. But we like the place. The history of Krupp family, spacious rooms with walls and floor decorated with wood, some paintings, some models of ships etc - everyone will find something interesting here. Not to forget a beautiful park and an entry price of 5 EUR both for the villa and the park together. We have been there before and will definitely come again
Visited the location with a group. Really breathtaking and stunningly huge building with big rooms but the exhibition was for my taste not too interesting.
The stately home of the famous Krupp family. Really well preserved with a lovely museum and a massive park. Definitely one of the nicest attractions in the area that I know of. You can easily spend quite some time here
Fancy villa from most influent family in Germany
Good place to visit and know the history of Alfred Krupp and his villa....
Perfect place on a nice weather day so you can enjoy the park around the villa. The main building is in renovation at the moment so check if work is finished before.
An interesting historical villa with a huge and splendid park around it. I didnt have time for a guided tour, but took quick wander around the grounds which was interesting in itself.
There are many old every day utensils displayed and the original inventory is still nice looking and in a good condition. I suggest a visit to any tourist, especially from abroad.
I really liked it. They have a nice collection of tapestry of Raphael Cartoons showing scenes from Gospels and Apostles. I liked it overall with the guide telling us the story of the family line. It is a must see.
Has visited the villa, its a massive listed building worth visiting especially by every conservative soul that believes in preservation. A popular site in Essen. A visit will convince you. Enjoy the site and the history behind it. August 2015 was my third visit to the site in three years.
