It enchanted me, there is an air of historic and valiant enterprises. Inside, there is a fine display of Viking boats (these were found in three large burial mounds on the Oslo Fjord), jewelery and clothing. Admiring the ships, scholastic memories of myths and legends related to this Nordic people, proud and courageous, that sailed the waves of the Atlantic Ocean emerge in me.Vikingskipshuset: the Viking ship museum. From Oslo a bus to get to the Viking museum, about half an hour .. Unforgettable! 🇳🇴❤️

The most amazing artifacts I have seen. We spent the entire day here because there is so much to see. An original village, ships, and art. So beautiful! I would love to live in the neighborhood surrounding the museum! —2016

As a viking-enthusiast and archaeology student I can only recommend the museum. Its not huge but you get to see multiple real ships which is so impressing its almost intimidating. You can not only walk around the ships to get a 360 degree view, you can also see them from above from a gallery which allows you to experience more perspectives. Additionally, theres a wall in the museum dedicated to be a screen for wonderful animations that tell you more about the life of the vikings who might have sailed those ships and there are show cases with smaller artifacts as well. The shop is very well equipped. I, for instance, bought a tote bag with a nice illustration of Yggdrasil and a Mjölnir-necklace as a gift for my best friend and were both wearing them every day, so it was totally worth the price. You will definitely not regret your visit!

A beautiful museum that feels surreal to visit. A good way to admire the ancient artwork of our ancestors housed in a very unique building.

Cant think of another museum where you can find such well preserved viking ships (been to Roskilde in Denmark, the ships there arent as well preservedbut the objects room is currently closed and theres not much else to see except the bones of the people buried on these ships. The movies wasnt particularly good and theres surprisingly little informations about the Vikings. 120 NOK is a bit of a hefty price tag, but I dont regret coming, just hope theyll improve the museum.

Interesting museum that is exactly what it claims to be. No fuss, with focus on the three ships that have been found and restored. Theres also a projected movie in of the halls that runs every 15 minutes or so, but thats about it. Have probably expected more for the price, but if you have any interest in the Vikings history, this is a must.

Infinitely more impressive seeing these ships in real life. I recommend asking the staff if you have questions. There are so many details and good information you will get if you show some interest.

This was a very simple yet amazing museum. The ships were an absolute wonder to see and the videos that were played on the walls periodically really showed the work put into these ships and how the culture was at the time. I really loved that there were multiple vantage points to view these amazing pieces of history so you could see where the men sat and just how detailed the carvings were. These ships are an amazing piece of history and it was truly an honour to be able to see them and understand their story.

The museum isnt very huge but the exhibits are arranged very well and the information provided is just perfect! I recommend taking the audio guide. There are multiple viewing points to see the ships from a height and distance to get a better perspective.

Very interesting collection of Viking history. Not a bad price for all the exhibits and the short film they show on a schedule that is included in the price of admission. Staff were very helpful with questions about the local busses and other things to do in the area.

This was fascinating and sadly you need to see this as soon as possible as the ships will be moving shortly. The fact that these ships are centuries old is amazing. The10 minute long film was informative and definitely worth watching. Take my advice and go to see Norwegian history while you can.

This is one of the most unique and amazing museums I’ve seen and it really draws you back a thousand years when Vikings were a major force. Impeccably well preserved artifacts with a heap amount of detail, well documented info to teach you the history and much more. It’s also nice to be able to do it all under two hours. This is something that kids will appreciate too. This museum is a Must if you’re going to Oslo.

An absolute must! You won’t see a more beautiful Viking ship than the main one here! You’ll see 3 big ships, a couple of smaller ones, and things that were onside the ships as burial grounds, such as sledges, cooking utensils, everyday tools, chests, oars, etc. Amazing to believe this wood has stood the test of time over 2k years! They run a film every 15 mins - do watch it: very simple, no voice but says a lot about Viking life. There is another film about how the wood survived this long: a good watch. There is wheelchair access, but not to see the ships from above, that’s only stairs. It’s friendly for children but you do have to keep an eye on them.Toilets are clean and spacious. Gift shop is okay.

The Viking Ship Museum is located on the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo, Norway. It is part of the Museum of Cultural History of the University of Oslo, and houses three Viking era burial ships that were found as part of archaeological finds from Tune, Gokstad (Sandefjord), Oseberg (Tønsbergand the Borre mound cemetery. The museum is most famous for the completely whole Oseberg ship, excavated from the largest known ship burial in the world. Other main attractions at the Viking Ship Museum are the Gokstad ship and Tune ship. Additionally, the Viking Age display includes sledges, beds, a horse cart, wood carving, tent components, buckets and other grave goods.

We got a combined ticket for this and the history museum which was a good deal. It doesnt take long to go around so maybe not worth it alone but if youre visiting the open air museum as well its definitely worth it as its about a 5 minute walk from the museum. The exhibits had some English translation which helped us get more info on everything which was helpful :)

Very good If you arrive by bicycle. People are awesome and they even have a chess replica from the Viking chess set found on the Outer Hybrids in Northwest of Scotland! The museum can be full of people, but everybody gets amazed by the complete documentation of the process of recovering the ships used in burial occasions. And also is is located near several other museums. Definitely worth the money (around 10€and the visit! Lots of souvenirs inside the ticket hall.

This is more of a display of a couple of Viking ships than a museum. If you have the Oslo pass stop by on the way to the Fram museum which you will be spending quality time. The museum does have potential but did not do the rich Viking history justice.

In this museum you get a strong impression of the high performance of the former sailors. Gladly you would have experienced as a visitor even more about the then possibilities of navigation. Although the ships look seaworthy, but despite their size, it is hard to imagine that they had crossed the Atlantic with it. The aids were so small that it is really amazing how they mastered these great distances on the sea back then. It must have been really hardened men who managed to defy storm and cold in these open vessels.

I loved this museum: real viking ships and other archaeological items, such as sledges, decorative dragon heads, some metal items. There is an atmospheric movie projected in a side room, it shows how the ship sinking probably happened. The gift shop has lots of different viking-themed items. There are lots of information on the boards around the place, but I have missed some better insight into peoples lifes during that era and I really missed some weapon & armor section (thats that missing star in my rating). Overall I do recommend to visit the place, its unique!

I have been to many Viking Museums but this one was by far my favourite. The ships are spectacular in real life. I would suggest getting in early (at openingbefore all the hordes of tourist buses arrive, otherwise you will find getting photos and trying to read all of the information quite cumbersome. The museum is well worth the visit and the ticket also gives you free entry to another museum of history (not specific to Vikingsin Oslo city. Its not nearly as cool as this one. Well worth the visit and not too expensive.

On our last day in Norway we got to go to this museum and Im so glad! Plenty of parking (paid, of courseright behind the museum. As soon as you walk in youre faced with your first viking burial ship and its pretty amazing! The museum has 3 burial ships, 1 even was for women. Everything was very well labeled so much that I felt like a got a decent education in where these ships came from, who and what they wouldve contained and some of the history. It was really fascinating and made me want to do some research on it when I got home. Besides the ships there are artifacts that were found in the ships, a really cool movie about the ships that is projected on a wall by one of the ships and other audio learning areas. Even though there were plenty of people there I was lucky to get some pictures without many people in them. Theres a little food stall in front of the museum and since we were hungry, it was a chilly day and our last in Norway, we had to get our last waffle with brown cheese, hot chocolate and of course, ice cream with licorice sprinkles!

Take the 10 minute ferry ride to Bygdoy for a wonderful experience at the Viking Ship Museum. Entrance cost is around £9 and for that you can get up close to three preserved viking ships that have been used for burials, plus many more finds including sledges, carts and bones. There is also a film, shop and cafe.

Incredibly serene and beautiful. The ships are restored and laid out as though they sailed in. The exhibits are well organised and the information is very comprehensive. For me the projected video of the Viking raid and ship burial is jaw dropping. Such an incredible layout and building. Very much recommended for anyone with an interest in Viking history.

One of my favorite museums with burial ships restored from 90% of their original wood. These ships actually sailed the seas with the Vikings aboard and were later used in burial mounds for Viking elders. Very well done, informative and don’t miss the beautiful projection movie showing the short history of the ships. It’s beautiful.

It was a very thorough museum for being kind of small. There are two main ships, two small ships, a burial cover, 3 skeletons and a show projected on the White Walls. Very friendly staff, you get to be very close to the artifacts, small and large, and a really good store for the museum that has a lot of quality items. Good for individuals or families alike.

At first I was underwhelmed. From the outside It looked like this place was an abandoned church.Once I went in and understood that these boats have been preserved for 1,100 years I started to understand. They also have a cool movie that projects on the walls and ceiling. The artifacts at the back are also impressive. Don’t skip over them.

You will see grave ships that have been well preserved through time. These are where the vikings are famous for so visiting this museum is a must. They have a video presentation that is showing every 15 mins or less (I guessdepicting how were the lives of the vikings in the old times. Its artistically made and nice sound background. Visiting this museum made my visit in Norway complete.

I am very much into Nordic stories, Vikings and everything related to that. So it was a dream come true that I could get to this museum. This was almost a spiritual experience. OK, Im 3% Viking. To see these incredible Viking boats and artifacts, lifted from the past and here, for me to ponder - WOW. To see where all the men sat and rowed, uncovered, day after day after week. Sure they were invaders and looters....but they were also humans, loved beautiful art and decoration, honored their dead, including women. DO NOT MISS THIS EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME!! The best that Oslo has to offer.

Pretty cool but small and wont take you more than 1-1.5h to go through. There are 3 ships, two of which are in very good condition - almost makes you want to take them out for a spin. Anyway, there are small viewing decks where you can see the tops of the ships, those these decks can be very busy with people taking selfies and such.

Not a very large museum but the exhibits they do have are fantastic. The lighting is pretty dim for the rooms with the ships but 3 massive ships as well as a large variety of artifacts found inside makes for a very fun visit. I loved my visit to the Vikings museums. One of the must see places while in Oslo. Lots of history and centuries old collections of Vikings ships. It is well designed with various sections. There is a souvenirs shop inside the museum so one can get something to add on personal collections from travels. Also there is a coffee shop and a good parking. The museum is also accessible by bus.

The ships and artifacts are amazing. The staff in the gift shop are disgusting.... Had about 20 students waiting in line to pay for items they had chosen to buy. The woman behind the counter, without warning yelled out "were closed" as she slid the glass window over. She wouldnt accept the 100s and 100s of Euro the students were waiting to hand over. We left with no souvenirs. The silver lining is that the same gifts are available elsewhere in the city at a cheaper price. Disgusting customer service. Sadly our tour guide said this happens often here.

So I love the place, mainly because it is a museum with a solid exhibition, very well preserved ships and materials from ancient age, yet the museum isnt so big that you can actually start loosing your focus, or get bored.Last time visited they had just opened the new 3D video experience in one of the nave of the exhibition area, and I honestly found it refreshing, it was very well though to be understandable for the most people whatever the age and the country they came from. It was entertaining yet very accurate, and both me and my guest really enjoyed it.My only complaint, and thats what keeping me from giving a full score, is the signing, which is in very little font and low contrast in most of the places, and its limited to a bit too few languages. I would appreciate in such a museum if they though a bit more about readability and, eventually, adding some more explanation in other European languages.

Small but very informative museum. Its amazing to see how sea-faring these shops must have been, carrying a crew of 30 or so, before they were used as burial monuments. Best combined with the other maritime museums in the area.

A small but worthwhile museum! Definitely stop here and see three different Viking ships that were unearthed and reconstructed. Love the fact that there are several places at higher elevations to take pictures of the ships from above. This museum is also close to several others, so get your Oslo pass and venture out to see it!
