View 42º Restaurant & Bar - Australian restaurant in Queenstown, Australia
Best seafood buffet Ive had for a long time. Great fresh cold seafood, salads, cooked seafood, hot veggies, coffee, fruit and desserts. Beautiful view of the harbour from a lovely dining room. Great service. Wish I could eat there more regularly!
The best food and windows view ever, you definitely go there if you stay in Strahan.
Excellent place to have a seafood buffet dinner and the view is to die for and afterwards you can sit in the lounge and enjoy a drink with that view. Sorry I didnt get a photo of my seafood plate
The best thing about this place is the view, and the staff were generally lovely. The food, however, is thoroughly mediocre and would only be worth it for a third of the price - seriously, $75pp is absurd and we paid far less for a nicer dinner for two people down the hill at the bistro. Wouldn’t recommend…
Nadia provided us incredible service. She managed to squeeze us in after we attempted to make a last minute booking. To our delight, we were seated with a window view in time for sunset. The banquet was excellent and great value for money. We can’t thank Nadia enough for looking after us 😊
Four of us dined there recently paying $75 per head for a buffet. Most of the food was delicious but desserts were average & not much left by the time we were ready. We asked for a window seat and they were available but we were placed at a table the furthest away from the food against a wall. There was a poor choice of wine. We felt that it was not worth the amount we paid. We understand that it is hard to staff restaurants but we felt that those working that night had poor knowledge of the menu.I have also sent feedback direct to the restaurant but have had no acknowledgment.
Fantastic buffet, Nadia and her team are amazing
We had a wonderful experience here. The view is great, the food was top notch and very generous servings, the staff were high quality and helped us to celebrate our special day in the nicest way. Highly recommend when you are in this area.
WOW!! Absolutely amazing, me and my husband had dinner here last night with the new menu and it was PERFECTION. All of the staff were absolutely lovely and so onto it, the food was cooked delisiosly and we could taste how fresh the seafood was. Also when the staff found out were on our honeymoon they gave us a complimentary bottle of wine ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️ thank you so much
We went for dinner with our 1 year old. Staff were lovely and accommodating, the food was fantastic. Would definitely come back.
Be sure to book.... This restaurant only does a single sitting in a tourist town with limited options.Initial impressions of the restaurant were lovely, we had a view over the harbour and the staff quickly took out orders and bought entrees.Dinner and dessert was quite a lot slower, with some patrons who arrived 39 minutes after us getting their first. We also were not supplied with another knife after the bread and entrees, so needed to share a steak knife with the mains. The food was great to average, we really liked the prawn and ginger dumplings and the Huon mushrooms that came with the filet mignon. The vegetables were average, as was the bau buns.Wed like to see another option for vegetarians on the menu as well.
Friendly staff and guests. Very clean. As soon as you finished one plate and went to get more food you place was cleared. The food, THE FOOD!! Delicious doesnt even cover it. 😋 I read other reviews before attending, but they didnt do it justice. A MUST visit for anyone in the area!!
Great food including many GF options! Excellent service and the view is amazing. Came back a 2nd time in 3 days!!
Really good banquet and the customer service, especially Kirby, the sweet smile and lovely voice for detail caring. Highly recommend for party gathering and birthday events, big surprise place!!!
Staff are very nice and food is fresh, had ridiculously irritating tiny tongs to serve some of the food (which required the manual dexterity of a watchmaker to use successfullyand some food wasnt replenished after 7.30 (the whole trout was picked clean by 7.45but other than these points it was very good.
Amazing view!Amazing Staff!Amazing value!Amazing food!View from the verandah was spectacular no matter the time of the day.Staff was friendly and helpful especially Chelsea, Kirby and SamUnbelievable value for fresh seafood, oysters were so fresh and delicious, prawns were fresh and yummy, plentiful of salads and dessert choices
Fantastic seafood buffet. So fresh and plentiful. Staff were unbelievably good and the drink prices are excellent.
Service and view is amazing, food is ok but butter chicken is a bit out of place at a seafood buffet. Salmon, prawns and mussels are nice. Oysters for sure not fresh enough. They must have been the least fresh oysters I have had on my Tassie trip.
Nice food, with views over Long Bay!I am always wary of Buffets, particularly seafood, however this restaurant is superb. Great price for a scrumptious amount of foods. All the seafood was fresh and what was cooked, was cooked well. There was no deep-fried junk. Plenty of salads and non-seafood options as well. The restaurant was large and busy, however great staff and set-up meant easy access to the food and there was never a shortage. Nice lounge and outside bar area for before and after. Well done to table and kitchen staff.
Very reasonably priced seafood buffet - the seafood was good quality when we went. We really enjoyed the mussels with lemon myrtle sauce in particular
I should have read the danger signs when entering this place, which looks like a parody of a 1960s RSL. When we arrived, they had lost our booking (I have a record of the phone callbut, unfortunately for us, still found us a table. The view of Macquarie Harbour is nice, although our table was back from the windows so somewhat impeded. At $59 a head for "all you can eat", it sounds like good value. On closer inspection, however, the food is also from the 1960s - bland and lacking in any creativity. I cant eat dairy, and with cheese and/or cream featuring in 75% of dishes, this limited my choice. But my partner commented that the beef and calamari were tasteless and the lamb overcooked. I just had a variety of veges which its hard to stuff up. The dessert offerings featured pavlova, jelly and scones(!The wine list was poor and our pinot too young and acidic - a shame when Tassie has so many great vineyards. I can only imagine this place is popular as aStrahan has limited dining offerings and bsome people love to stuff their faces with "all you can eat", regardless of the quality of the food. This place is clearly catering to a customer who is not us! I realise this sounds stuffy, but its good to know what youre in for.
Enjoyed a lovely buffet dinner in the restaurant. Great location overlooking Strahan. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Buffet exceeded our expectations. Food was well presented and delicious. Recommend you give it a try.
$59 pp, not too much selections, oysters are not very fresh, king prawns and mussels are ok. Other foods are average.Soft drinks and juice are not free, which makes me think it is a bit overprice. Not recommend if you have had buffet in Melbourne or Sydney before. There are other good restaurants for dinner in town.
I called in the morning to book for a table for two, they said that just walk in. So I drive 2.5 hrs hopping to have a good buffet but we end up disappointed. The buffet isnt open due to covid when we arrived and they only got few options, u can either take away or sitting in the waiting area and eat lol. Could have noticed the customer when being called. Very unprofessional hospitality service, and nothing saying the buffet was closed on their website as well. Do urself a favor dont waste ur time and money there.
This place has really great food. We had the Steak with mushroom sauce and the Chicken Parmi. Very tasty. Could get the drinks we wanted which is not always easy. The dessert was yummy too. Loved our meal here and highly recommend.
After checking into Strahan Village we were shown the Menu at the on site restaurant View 42 deg and booked in for the Gorment Buffet Dinner that evening. We asked for a table with a view for our wedding anniversary and they delivered even going as far as a bunch of take home flowers as decoration ... so cute.On arrival we were knocked out by the view over the quaint township and wharf. There was a roaring open fire and an amazing sun drenched deck.We were greeted by Lee on the Bar who helped us choose the perfect bottle of bubbles. After a glass on the deck we’re were shown to our table by the wonderful Meg she was so friendly also professional and made you feel instantly comfortable whilst she informed us of all the food on offer at the bistro. Meg finished service and handed us over to Jennifer who was also extremely attentive making sure every one was looked after during the evening. The food was excellent we tried a little bit of everything and it was all very fresh and tasty. The locally sourced seafood was amazing. I had heard a lot about the town of Strahan and it had been on the bucket list for years, when I got there I must admit I was underwhelmed but after our dinner experience we are definitely returning. Thanks again for the wonderful dining experience. Thanks to all the staff especially Jennifer Lee and wicked Meg.
Food is pretty great. Bit overpriced but still worth it
Seafood available was so generous for the price, beautiful views and very friendly and helpful staff. Would skip the non-seafood mains which seemed a lesser quality but the salads, seafood and desert were plenty to keep us happy.
If a seafood buffet all you can eat is your thing - then this is a must for you! The seafood was delicious and plentiful. The other food was of a good quality - not the best - but good quality buffet style food. The staff were very very good and helpful and always ensuring the buffet trays were full. The view from this place is absolutely phenomenal- well worth the visit.
If youre looking for a great seafood spread, this is the perfect place! Huge prawns, oysters, delicious salmon, muscles and more! For only $59, its such great value for money. The cauliflower soup and choc brownies were also really good! Staff incredibly friendly and helpful.
The best seafood buffet ever! Fresh oysters. Variety of classically and asian style cooked Salmon, calamari, scallops. All delicious and fresh. Incredible value also. Couldnt find the dish we did not enjoy (and we are picky!Highlight of the Tassie trip. Thank you chefs
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY on the seafood buffet. - Grab a drink and enjoy the amazing view from the deck (for free), then go to the pub.. or have toast in your motel (Still better). In summary: Over-cooked, boney, not-fresh seafood, terrible desserts, no flavour in anything.. border line if this is even suitable for retirement village food.$60 per person for the worst food, most cramped seating, least COVID-safe place on earth, and $10 says they are under-paying staff. 0 stars.
Thoroughly enjoyed our seafood buffet experience. Beautiful oysters, mussels and salmon. Entree soup was delicious and drinks great value. A real find, will definitely be returning if value and quality stays the same. A great reward for climbing the stairs up from the waterfront :)
Arrived late and just before closing, but super accommodating.Good food selection and taste. Wish I could have seen the view from our table, just too dark by the time we arrived.
We went to have breakfast, but it was a little over our budget, so we couldnt eat.continental $20The entire menu was $27.Its the same price range everywhere. The view is great, and I think its beautiful at night. The restaurant is attached to a lodging facility, so there is probably a small discount for guests.
Went here on aust day as most other places were shut or didn’t accept kids (the pub wouldn’t let kids under 18 in until 1730). So much bette up here anyway. The bar service was awesome. They had a nice pizza menu along with a great snack menu. Drinks were free for the kids too! Finally the view!!!
Went for sunset at the lounge, amazing views and the pizza was delicious! Staff were friendly and accommodating, even though they clearly didnt have enough people to deal with the big crowd + takeaway orders (management should do better here). Note they close food orders at 8pm, dont be like the entitled moron on the next table that threw a rude hissy fit when staff wouldnt stay behind to serve her and her Frankston mates.
Good buffet-restaurant with first row sunset harbour viewS42°9.132 E145°19.857 With Bushman’s Bar & Café closed not paying the rent and drinking too much, the pub grub of Hamer’s Hotel was the only refuge option on the Esplanade. With every tourist present inside and outside and no appetite for hamburgers with fried chips, in February of 2020 we involuntarily climbed the stairs to the Strahan Village hilltop hotel and its restaurant View 42°. Inside, this large buffet-restaurant gives the impression of a dining hall. A bit too cramped for many people travelling between the buffet and their tables, but the beautiful view of the harbour at sunset compensates for this.Although our natural inclination is to avoid buffets, the View 42° buffet was a pleasant surprise, featuring well-prepared Tasmanian produce including plenty of fresh seafood such as salmon, trout and squid. Beef stew was also good. We noticed that the buffet was supplemented with freshly cooked products until the last guest left. Impressed by the quality of the food and no desire to queue at Hamer’s Hotel, we booked a table with sunset view for the next day. The food next day did not disappoint us either. Beautiful oysters. We met employees from Sweden, Hongkong and Jamaica. Almost a cruise boat crew. They took good care of the guest. Very thoughtful. The buffet costs $60 per person. This price corresponds with the variety and quality of the buffet. Recommended.
Awesome views of the bay, Seafood buffet night is recommended, good service
The view is very scenic for this venue. It’s a great place to have an afternoon beer and simply stare at the serenity. The restaurant is good, the buffet is definitely priced right and value for money.Staff are pleasant and it has a nice wine selection .
The view over Strahan harbour was serene, for seafood lovers, the food was delicious, the desserts yummy. For my taste buds the only thing missing was a chocolate, and on making that comment, the receptionist promptly delivered a little bag with three delectable chocolates ... just topped off a perfect night! Thank you.
The buffet had an excellent range of fresh seafood. Plenty of salads and sides all very tasty. Great range of deserts. No complaints with anything I had. The price is fair for the range and quality of food on offer.
Little gem on the West Coast, fabulous views and tasty meals here ,beautiful Tasmanian wines served here
Beautiful views from the windows and the mainly seafood buffet was amazing. There was also an excellent variety of salads and delicious desserts as well.
I just loved staying here I had to go back for a second look. A beautiful Bush encrusted setting where the wild life comes alive at night calling into my hotel room. Buffet is of 5 star quality. Great choice for breakfast lunch and dinner, serviced rooms well kept, each with its own patio connection to outside. Fully stocked bar only pay for what you drink. What a way to explore Strahan by staying at the place love it.
Without doubt, the best buffet I have experienced in Tasmania over the last 14 years. Great food and variety at a very reasonable price. Have already booked in for another fine nights dining.
We happened to be driving in to Strahan for our sons 10th birthdayMy wife googled and decided to try it out for dinner. She rang during our drive and happened to mention it was our sons birthday not expecting muchWhat a wonderful effort they made!Decorations, balloons and even an amazing birthday dessert dish. And the buffet... fresh and tasty!Fresh prawns, oysters, scallops, tender calamari (and yes weve had seafood in lots of different restaurants and hotels)Thank you View 42° staff for a truly memorable dinner and making us feel so special!Oh yes... the views arent bad either!
The restaurant has amazing views. The staff was really helpful when we made our reservation. I would say that the buffet was above average, the dishes and the options could improve.
After reading the very positive reviews here we decided to splash out on the buffet dinner at view 42 in Strahan. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed. While there was plenty of food and choices, none of the dishes I tried were anything special, let alone a taste sensation. The seafood, which was the reason we visited the buffet, did not seem to be fresh or local. Frankly, it wasnt very good at all. We have had far better seafood in other places of Tasmania. I wouldnt go again. The view is nice so if you are not that interested in seafood you might still enjoy it.
The restaurant is in an amazing location perched on a hill overlooking Strahan with sweeping views over the harbour. We generally prefer to avoid buffets but we wanted to sample some Tasmanian seafood and we were very happy that we tried it. There was a good selection of cold and hot food and it was all very well prepared and presented. We particularly liked the ocean trout and the Thai seafood salad. We were a little disappointed with the desserts (a little bland and unimaginativeand we thought that there should have been a cheese board featuring Tasmanian cheeses.
