Vena's Fizz House in Freeport

TRY THEIR VIRTUAL COCKTAIL/MOCKTAIL CLASSES!Just did one and it was sooo much fun. I gifted a mocktail virtual class for a pregnant friend. Great idea not only during a pandemic, because its virtual, but also for anyone who likes a delicious drink without the alcohol (I added alcohol to mine, so anyone can enjoy really).HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Steve lead our class and he was super nice and fun! They send all the ingredients you will need for the class to your house so its also very convenient and no need to go out grocery shopping (again, especially during a pandemic).
MoreWe stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a shot - glad we did. They have the most unique and inventive cocktails we’ve ever had. Would be 5 stars except the place was pretty seriously understaffed on Sunday night. Per our server, they usually have 5 people working but on this busy night they only had 2. They did a great job trying to keep up but it was clear they just needed more help, especially on a holiday weekend. Anyway - get the Maine margarita and the matador 2. Lovely.
MoreWonderful shop with unforgettable cocktails. They have so many bitters in the shop that will blow your mind, and make sure there’s space in your luggage for a shaker or a few glasses because it was so hard for me to not buy up the whole shop. A table opened up while I was shopping so me and my party sat down and received the greatest service we had received in all of New England. Andy and Mitchell killed it (to say the very leaston Saturday night. The Fizz house was busy and the cocktail lounge was full but they were available for any questions or recommendations. They were the greatest duo I ever saw and I’m not exaggerating. I was in a group with three women from out of town with tons of questions and they found a way to be there and guide them to the drinks that they’d love. We were all blown away by our cocktails and we can’t wait to make our way back to Portland. Thank you Mitchell and Andy you were both professional inviting and hard working!
MoreCocktails here are fantastic. We had the Maine margarita and the cucumber cooler. The cucumber cooler was especially good. We also went inside the shop and bought some bitters made by Vena. Would recommend!
MoreSome of the best cocktails ever! This place is really serious about making high quality and unique drinks. And their indoor store has everything you need to do it at home.
MoreTheir syrups, bitters and shrubs are a must-have for any home bar. Though theyre currently limited to a takeout mocktail menu, the drinks are still great - but be sure to come back sometime when you can sit at the bar to enjoy the ambiance. Great location for exploring the rest of Old Port after youre done sipping.
MoreLove the different drinks offered. Great bartenders fun and lively!
Perfect local bar to come to for those looking for a boozy drink, as well as those who arent. The servers and bartenders are friendly and inviting, the low lights and cozy environment are sure to warm you up after walking through the brisk weather. (Pictured are the Blackheart and Fluffy Fizz.)
MoreAlways a great time with the best drinks in Maine. But at Xmas it’s all Xtra here.
MoreGood experience. The service was nice. The mixologist was friendly and made a variety of drinks based on my particular taste. Each time it was spot on. Downside a bit expensive but it is downtown so what else do you expect. Fun for a group.
MoreFun place to try different drinks. Mocktails are great! Friendly service as well. Check out the gift shop for their glassware.
MoreMy girlfriend and I just went here last night for a Mixology class. It was 2 hours of pure fun!! We got our own bartender (Dan was amazing!walk us through making three different very tasty drinks, and he told us about some interesting history of each as well.Plus the place has a great vibe and just seems to be a nice spot!We will definitely be going back!!!!
MoreOMG! This is the bar to go to. It is a diamond in the rough. The staff is so great. They are so knowledgeable and helpful. They have a large selection of cocktails and mocktails. Andy was the best. If he is there ask for the "Lets Have a Kiki" it was amazing. All their cocktails are great and you can get their mocktails with booze. Recommend the BlackBerry Coconut with Rum.PS the cotton candy drink is the Fluffy Fizz! It was great!
MoreLoved this place! Both alcoholic and non with interesting ingredients including many types of bitters, phosphates and shrubs. Its a little retro-y hipster but in a fun way. Menu is categorized by flavor profile. Staff was super knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. We each ordered two drinks - my second was suggested by the bartender and included a beet shrub component which was surprisingly delicious. Not many seats but there are places to roost and 2 small bistro tables out front. If you try something you like, ask for the recipe - the small store sells almost everything youd need (other than the actual alcohol), including vintage bar sets, a variety of bitters and alcohol infusion "kits". Well worth your time, even with non-drinkers. Only food seems to be truffle popcorn so dont come hungry. Looking forward to coming back and trying something new.
MoreOne of the most incredible bars Ive ever visited. They have AMAZING drinks, made with care and creativity. They really showcase whats possible with the addition of bitters to drinks! They are also happy to share any of their drink recipes, and sell an insane variety of bitters on site.
MoreLove this place!!!! As if being transformed into an apothecary, they serve a array of cocktails with interesting bitters and is also available for purchase. There were some interesting glass wares on display and would like to revisit and see what gets served in them. The bartender was very knowledgeable and seem to love the craft, which made the drinking experience more exciting being able to geek out with a fellow enthusiast.
MoreWhat a great shop! Craft cocktails you can have here, or a place to purchase items to make your own at home. Large assortment of bar utensils, wide variety of bitters. Friendly staff, too. Check it out if you are setting up a home bar, great ideas to enhance your craft cocktail experience. Unique and a must visit in Portland!
MoreCocktails were great and served pretty promptly. The prominence of non-alcoholic options was very welcome too! I especially liked the very unique pine syrup used in the Lumbersexual. Their shop near the entrance was very well stock with common and not so easy to find bitters, which was great. But, our spirits were dampened as we were rushed out by our server before everyone in our group had even finished their drinks. This was especially off-putting considering there werent people waiting for tables or anything (and the table next to us was empty)! Soured what was otherwise a great experience.
MoreA unique and interesting experience! The cocktail list is extensive and vast! Theres something for everyone including those who do not drink. The mocktails menu is equally as appetizing! The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable which makes the experience that much more enjoyable! Also, if you like coffee, do yourself a favor and try the Kopi Old Fashioned!
MoreThis place was opened before their liquor license and they specialize in non alcoholic drinks (think fancy soda, spritz and other old fashioned treats). They now also have cocktails and have an extensive list of flavors. The shop in the front sells bar tools and flavor accessories which make great gifts
MoreLoved the experience of watching our handmade cocktails being assembled. Delicious drinks and top notch service. Owner was on site and engaging. Cant wait to come back.
MoreVenas Fizz House is a lovely place that can appeal to everyone! They have mocktails for the non drinkers, sodas for the kids, and fabulous craft cocktails for the ones who love a boozy libation or two. It also doubles as a shop where you can purchase all sorts of bitters and other items essential to your bar at home!Worth a stop in your stay in Portland!
MoreExcellent cocktails and service! The bartender made us an extra drink on the house when we had trouble deciding upon which drink to order from their amazing cocktail menu. Everything to recreate the drinks can be purchased from their retail shop that you walk through to get to the bar area.
MoreMy very favorite cocktail of all is here, its actually not a cocktail proper, since they are also a soda shop, and will make fun sodas with or without alcohol, which makes it a more accessible space. The seating is only high bar stool style, and is a bit hard to get up to if youre limited in mobility.I get the fluffy fizz , which is a beautiful pink drink thats tart and sweet, with cotton candy on top! There are lots of drink options for lots of tastes.Be aware they are not a traditional bar and are not open till 1 every night.
MoreI have to be honest - I dont remember what drink I had here, or what drink my boyfriend had. However, I do know that they were both DELICIOUS and as strong as youd want a good cocktail to be.I can not recommend this place more! I normally say "definitely stop by if youre in the area!" but honestly even if youre not in the area, GO HERE! Youll get a delightfully enjoyable and cleverly made cocktail and youll get to sip it in the most adorable place. I live over two hours from this place and have considered going back on multiple occasions. They also have an excellent gift shop with all sorts of cocktail accessories, from bitters to glassware.Highly recommend.
MoreWent here for cocktails after dinner based on the great reviews. I have to be honest, I really wanted to like the cocktails but didnt. My fiance and I tried 4 different cocktails and all 4 were not very good for one reason: they were way too bitter. Venas makes their own bitters and other concoctions, so I thought they would make for excellent cocktails: they didnt. All of our drinks had good flavor combinations, but werent balanced at all because they finished so bitter. Maybe our bartender was just a bit heavy handed on the bitters, Im not sure. If you like bitter things then this might be right up your alley. But if you like well balanced cocktails, I wouldnt recommend coming here.
MoreWhat a fantastic little hidden treasure. An unparalleled collection of butters and very unique drink combinations. Meet the owner and had a fun chat about his taste and drink philosophy.
MoreBeen going here every summer on vacation for years. Great drinks! Unique style. Ownership is so welcoming!!! An outstanding little spot with a high-end appreciation for how to make great cocktails.
MoreFun, very eclectic soda shop that also serves alcohol. Come in to rest your feet after waking all around Portland. Its a quiet and small bar that you can also shop in for premade cocktail mixers.
MoreThis is a definite stop on the Portland cocktail tour. The things they manage to create here are nothing short of magical. Theres a reason they have a shop inside. Youll want to try to make some of their drinks at home. Their prices are amazing. Their pours are incredible. Everything about this place from the service to the bartender is first class.
MoreAn essential Portland stop. So much so we ended up here twice. The bartender, Warren, was a gem and mixed us up some off the menu cocktails. Highly recommend. Lengthy mocktail menu as well!
MoreOne of our favorite stops in Portland Maine. The owner is an upbeat, quirky and funny guy that guided us through different steps he took in making drinks. He also helped us decide what drinks to try. The drinks were fantastic, and a little strong at times. Overall though, we had an unbeatable time.
MoreI really liked the antioxidant shot and the truffle popcorn. Fun experience to taste a lot of different cocktails.
MoreThe best place in the old Port for cocktails hands down!! Friendly staff and the best cocktails youll ever have.
MoreI will come back here, when we move here, I will always come back here. Ive been a bartender for six years and Ive never had a better bar experience. If you go during the week you get special attention and possibly off menu cocktails. Saturday is a different beast but still incredible service, delicious drinks, and a great time. My favorite place in Portland.
MoreI love love love this place! Awesome cocktails at the bar in the back. Endless selection of intriguing bitters, shrubs (what?), and phosphates (huh?at the shop in the front. Also meet the owner who was super friendly. We always make a midday stop here whenever we come to Portland.
MoreGreat cocktails, great service. Nice, cozy atmosphere that feels very secluded and relaxed. The bartender was really friendly and had great suggestions. Loved the Maine margarita-refreshing and light!
MoreGreat drinks and interesting things in a quirky store/bar that feels lost in time. Super friendly staff will be only too pleased to help you navigate your way through their extensive range of bitters, liqueurs, other unusual or uncommon flavorings.
MoreAmazing drinks! Incredibly friendly staff! Really an amazing place!Best Old Fashioned I’ve ever had!
MoreNice little bar. Interesting choice of drinks. The owners and staff are very nice. The drinks are very strong (flavor wiseso if you like bold flavors in drinks this place is for you. I don’t recommend their version of a Moscow Mule. It was so beyond spicy I couldn’t even finish it! But a lot of the fruity drinks were good, but like I said, very strong flavor.
MoreDefinitely the best cocktails in town, hands down. The Smoother than a stout cocktail is amazing. Steve and the crew there make you feel welcome. They have the most selection of bitters Iv ever seen in one place.
MoreVenas is an exciting combination of craft cocktail bar, craft/handmade soda bar and mixology shop. I had the opportunity to talk to the owners for a bit, and they were kind and very knowledgeable. This was especially true about their expansive collection of bitters they have for sale, including their own line. They also sell the biggest variety of bar tools that Ive seen in similar sized shops. The mocktail/soda line (including classics like "cherry phosphate"makes this a great place to bring kids! We tried two drinks marked "customer favorite" from the cocktail menu, and they did not disappoint! Their cocktails have entertaining names, and paired with their off-beat decor, it shows that they dont take themselves too seriously at Venas, which is refreshing to see in the hipster-dominated craft cocktail space. Limited "bar snacks" are available, but there is no food menu per say. Check this place out before or after dinner.
MoreAn amazing variety of unique cocktails and mocktails. We sat at the bar which was great to watch the bartender mix his creations. Very friendly, too and answered our questions.
MoreSat at the bar. It was mesmerizing to watch the bar tender expertly make such complex drinks. I had the Dark & Crimson and it was delightful! The smokey drinks are definitely a bit too smokey for my taste.
MoreAmazing craft cocktails. Fun, helpful, knowledgeable staff. The perfectimperfect martini was delicious and so was the Tangerine Collins.
MoreThese cocktails! When you have dozens of homemade bitters in stock, you know you cant go wrong. This must be the best place to get a drink in Portland before dinner. Truly anything you heart desires!
MoreEverything is great there the bartenders are friendly and smart. The drinks are well done the atmosphere is fantastic
MoreFriendly staff and awesomely unique drinks, cocktails and mocktails!
Steve is a master when it comes to creating new drinks! Trust the menu and try something different - you cant go wrong!
MoreCreative drinks in a friendly atmosphere. They will explain your drink to you in depth.
