In town visiting and I have not been here in a few years. The food was well received by all. The bartender and table service was provided by Piper. She was just awesome, engaging and passionate, her drinks were creative and interesting. We will definitely be back when in town.q
Waited 3 years to finally get here and was not disappointed. The salmon was awesome, hubbys steak done to perfection, service great.
It was my first time there. It was not very busy for a Saturday evening. The food was good but a little pricey.
We went to a Bison taste testing food Avenue 7 cores meals
A must try place with delicious meals and a wide variety of unusual burgers. Each month they have a burger of the month that’s a fundraiser for a charity. If you’re getting fries be sure to ask for their fry sauce. It’s the kind of place you and your buddies can hang out at the bar and order food or your family can easily enjoy a meal in the restaurant
Stopped in for brunch on Sunday to this cute little corner diner with a very cool vibe. We were greeted immediately and told someone would seat us in a moment; the restaurant was not busy wigh multiple tables open but we did have to wait for the server to come back to the hostess stand to seat us for a minute or two. I noticed that happened with every table that was sat; immediately greeted by a server and then told to wait. Even at the table, a very warm and lengthy greeting but was told they would be back in a few mins to take a drink order which I thought was odd that they didn’t just take the order for drinks upon first greeting. We enjoyed a Bloody Mary and a screwdriver which were yum. The menu was so interesting and it was hard to choose! Hubs settled on steak and scrambled eggs (they brought out fried which was no big dealand I got the lemon sour cream pancakes and added a side of bacon. The food overall was good; the steak was cooked perfectly, potatoes seasoned well, the pancakes were enormous and thick and fluffy as they should have been. The bacon was a bit over cooked (that can happen randomly so not sure if it’s a regular practice). I did not expect the pancakes to besweet considering the sour cream and lemon; but they were SO very sweet that I’m not sure anyone could finish two that size!I’m not a big fan of dessert breakfast, but if you are, then the pancakes would be a good choice. They very much tasted like a lemon pound cake just not quite as dense. It just isn’t what I expected by the menu. There was little faux pas…it seemed a small piece of plastic may have gotten into the batter which wasn’t a big deal. Things happen…but the server did take 15% off of the price of the pancakes.I do understand the rising food costs but I still feel that $16 for two pancakes was over priced.)the bacon was also carte at $3 for two stripsas was $24 for the size steak he was served. The service was top notch! Super friendly and even offered must see things while we are in town. 5 stars! The food was good. Nothing that made us rave but fed us and was flavored decently. 4 stars. The value 2 stars; our bill for 2 cocktails, small flat iron steak, 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, and a handful of potatoes with 20% grat was $75 😳
Susan and arrived just before 1:00 pm on Sunday at the Vagabond Kitchen. We found the atmosphere, restaurant staff & menu honestly engaging. The diverse menu options offered creative spins on menu staples. Executed exceptionally well.Highly recommended!
Stopped here on a road trip drive for dinner and had a delicious meal. Duck wings were super tasty and their bread free tostones burger was super tasty. Would come again and recommend. Enjoyed the plantains instead of a bread based bun, nice gluten free option.
This place is a true gem! I love it! The décor and atmosphere is perfect and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. And our meal... from the beer on tap to the dessert, everything was awesome! We got the watermelon gazpacho (I loved this), winner winner pork chop dinner, fancy AF sea scallops and the strawberry corn cake for dessert. Everything was so good, but I have to say the most impressive was the pork chop... I dont normally eat pork but I had to try it! It looked amazing and I wish Id taken a picture, but it tasted even better! I never knew a pork chop could taste that good! Everything else on the plate was outstanding as well. I hope I get to eat here again soon!
Had a reservation at 8, waited patiently for 35 minutes because they were swamped with a party of 32 without anyone coming to our table for even a drink order. When someone that walked in was seated directly beside us and was immediately waited on and waters brought to them at our 35th minute we walked out.
Sweet people, delicious food with some real surprises. Quality of the produce stood out even with some great hot spice on some dishes. Particularly loved the corn fritters, the duck wings and the (very crispytempura veg as well as the fun Just Dew It chicken! Hope to return. Thank you to Cloud for being a fab server.
It is a nice local business, friendly staff, really good cook. Its a place to go to have a nice dinner. Its fine dining, beautiful presentation. Has a more exciting environment with unique art, and heavy music.
Im glad this place ended up across the street from my hotel.I ordered carryout, so I didnt eat there, but the service I got was great nonetheless.Ordered the stuffed jalapenos and the terminator. Great keto options!I thought it was a little pricey until I tasted it. They are using some good quality beef! The char grilled flavor between the eggplant and the burger was delicious, and I never thought to use creamed spinach as a burger topping but it works! If Im ever in the area, I will definitely stop by again.
This is by far the best restaurant in Wheeling and the entire Ohio Valley. The food is authentic. Genuine. Real. You feel great, both during and after the visit. It is important to support local. The ownership here feels the same. Home grown craft and goodness.
Blackout burger was eclectic...perfectly seasoned. Surprisingly tasty homemade dipping sauce. Top notch service. Great selection of micro and local brews. Nice music selection. Support your local businesses.
Atmosphere is excellent and the menu is unique. The food is absolutely delicious! Everyone from the owner to the wait staff is very friendly and attentive!
Brunch. Staff was very friendly. Baccon wrapped jalapenos and home fries were quite good. They were out of several menu options and had only been open 1 hour which was disappointing. Overall food was just OK, for the price. I feel they could do better. Maybe it was an off day. May try again for the regular dinner menu.
Came here for brunch. Yummy and cheap mimosas. I believe they have a bottomless mimosa option. Delicious chicken on the chicken and waffles. I would get it again.
Very nice restaurant food was really good service was great also. Very nice quiet date night dinner.
Food was very good as well as the service. Really surprised that it wasnt busier. Was there on a Saturday night. Had the bigger Mac and fries. Could be some of the best fries ever. Burger was outstanding. Drove about 2+ hours to get there and it was worth it
As good of a restraunt anywhere in the world. Outstanding unique foods. Great service. If you want a great dining experience, you have to come here. I would rate this restraunt a 10 out of 5.
Good service and good food are hard to come by in today’s world where customer service is a duty rather than a passion. The folks at Vagabond are fantastic! Chef Matt is the definition of what it means to be a proud home town boy, representing the Ohio valley and the state of WV with everything he does. The attention to detail in the menu shows a high level of passion and dedication. Using all local ingredients to help his neighbors on their own paths to success is a nice touch as well. If you love good food, and want to continue to support small business within the Ohio Valley make the Vagabond Kitchen your one stop shop to support your neighbors! Keep up the great job folks!
Ive always enjoyed my food at Vagabond Kitchen, and the staff is always friendly. Never had a bad meal. I also appreciate that they support other local businesses. Good food, and good people. It doesnt get much better than that!P.S. I tried to recreate the Irish stew last winter, and mine sucked. Ill leave my favorite dishes to the experts. :)
My daughter took me to Vagabond Kitchen as a Birthday Surprise. After seeing him on Guys Grocery Games, I wanted to support someone from our state. Everything about the place was great, friendly, clean, and the food was fantastic, if I lived closer, I would be eating there more often. And when I feel safe to travel again I will be back. The food was great and the dipping sauce, truffle sauce for fries, I wish I had a vat of it. I know it is hard on small business with the pandemic, and supplies are outrageous, but be proud to support local, the food is great.
Ive eaten food from Vagabond many times and not once have I been disappointed! They catered bouts for the Ohio Valley Roller Girls and getting their food at a game was one of my favorite parts of the weekend. Always delicious, always quality, always friendly.
I have worked for Vagabond and eaten there through all of their stages of growth and metamorphosis. The food is phenomenal, Matt is an incredible person, the service unmet and it is one of the only places in the valley that takes emphasis on serving and supporting local farms and businesses. Your honesty, commitment to customer service and transparency will carry you so far! 10000/10 would recommend. -T. Stout
Having been to VK on many occasions, I can honestly say that there has never been anything even remotely close to having a bad experience. Ive tried over half of the menu, and of course a handful of drink concoctions -- All of which are top tier. Pair that with an incredible, open, and inviting atmosphere, and there you have one of the most incredible eateries that our city as to offer.
Every meal I’ve had here has been incredible. Each menu item is unique and clearly locally-sourced; I appreciate the care taken to support the local producers. Favorites are the hummus, the burgers, and whatever the feature happens to be! This is a must-stop when I visit the Wheeling area, and it never disappoints.
Truly a chef run restaurant. You can tell in the menu offerings and the quality of the meals. And everything is locally sourced, if possible. The service is top notch! We started with the bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers...Mmmm. I enjoyed the sweetgrass chicken, perfectly glazed and cooked with sorghum and preserves. It came with fresh grilled asparagus, rice pilaf and cornbread. Fabulous! My wife loved her blackout burger. Interestingly it was rubbed in coffee, but only a hint remained. You could tell it was the highest quality beef. When in Wheeling, make the Vagabond a destination!
Ive never had a bad meal here! The staff is always really friendly and the food is delicious. This is a great place to eat in downtown, and everything is locally sourced. I like knowing that my money is staying right here. I much prefer to eat here over a chain. The owner, Matt, has created something really unique here.Try the Mac and cheese. Its amazing.
My family eats here often and have never had a bad experience. The place has it all -- great food and friendly service. Recently we were out celebrating, and my young daughter was frustrated that she couldnt order off the grown-up drinks menu. So, the waitress offered to make her a Shirley Temple. Our girl left feeling so special and with a new favorite drink.
Clean and comfortable setting, courteous and professional staff, delicious food every time I go. I enjoy every visit and my wife raves over it every time I take her. Shop local, folks. Stop funding big business and support your neighbors!
Wonderful place and option to have in downtown Wheeling! Creative food, great service! Always enjoy everything I get. Their Hangover Burger is one of my fave burgers around! Unique and creative specials and always working to change it up! Can’t say enough!
As a New Yorker, this place is the closest I can get to NYC dining, all while being back home in the Ohio Valley. Knowing the food is locally sourced and my meal is not only supporting one business, but many, makes me happy and grateful to contribute to the local economy.During my visits, I usually invite friends and family who dont know about this Downtown gem. They love it too. A definite must try for locals and out-of-towners!
I had the worst restaurant experience of my life. My family went out of our way to go to this establishment. I wouldn’t call it a restaurant because I sat there for over a hour without receiving any food whatsoever. We were told 3 times our waiter/waitress was coming. It took 30 minutes to get our drink order even put in. We then ordered all at once because we didn’t know when we’d get the opportunity to even talk to someone again. We ordered and 30 minutes following they came to the table to inform us that they were out of fries. I wouldn’t come back to this restaurant if my firstborn’s life was on the line. I highly encourage you to pick any other restaurant in this city, or honestly eat McDonald’s before going to this place. You’ll be utterly disappointed in the service you will receive.
My buddy and I were running around the Wheeling area and decided to get something to eat. He looked online, found Vagabond Kitchen and said This place looks great. We waited outside in the car until it opened at 4. Very attractive atmosphere and welcoming server. The stuffed jalapeño bacon wrapped appetizers were unbelievable! Just tangy, not too hot—perfection! I had the grilled salmon and Derrick had the sweet grass chicken— beyond delicious. The meal was so excellent we decided to go for dessert. I had the orange creamsicle cheesecake and Derrick had Belgian waffle and vanilla bean ice cream—exceeded our expectations! An added bonus was Vagabond Kitchen sources food locally, and the taste and quality were notably better than at many other places. In chatting with our friendly and efficient server, we laughed that she, I and Derrick all graduated from Cal U (California University of PA). Most definitely will visit Vagabond Kitchen and highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience! Congratulations to the management and staff!
Trying too hard. Was excited to try this place for my birthday but was severely disappointed. Not busy on this particular Saturday and its a good thing. Even with 4 tables we waited to be served for an hour. The waitress was very forgetful, left empty glasses and menus on the table until another waitress took them. The jalapeno peppers were good, my Kettleburger with the bean patty was nothing to write home about, and the salad was made with arugala which is definatly not my favorite to say the least and not advertised on the menu. My partner had the Balrog burger medium, which was overcooked and dry. The peppers overpowered the other flavors and was just an over all miss and we didnt get the pickels with the burgers as advertised. The fries were soft but good. The homemade ranch was fabulous and everything was served hot, fresh from the grill.I would return but Im not in a hurry, the mac & cheese looked good.
Thats a high hopes. They did stagger seating. Told us there were reserved bar stools in the bar and made a sit in a corner when in fact there was no such thing. Try to order the chicken pot pie and another dish only to be told they didnt have it. Seems that the staff is not well informed about what they do and do not have. Amazingly enough I counted six staff people running around yet getting nothing done. When we were finally seated the waitress we had was lovely. The food was mediocre at best. Bland. The hummus was bland. The burger was bland. Every dish was about the same. Its not to say I wouldnt try it again but I would have to wait a while.
Totally awesome food. Our waitress Brooke was friendly and efficient with taking our order. Holly and I are from Pittsburgh and dont have many restaurants of this caliber back there. If you are passing through Wheeling or staying close by, definitely stop in for a bite. You wont be disappointed.
I had a great experience. The service was awesome. Waitress was very warming and friendly; she gave some recommendations. The food was really good! I got the blackout burger. It had a very nice, succulent patty; the cheese was melted perfectly. I opted for the garlic truffle fries with some bleu added for the frills. Ice tea was nicely brewed. I was very surprised that can pay using a QR code on the receipt; advanced for a small business, but I love it. Overall, awesome customer experience 👍🏾
Food was fantastic! I had the pork chop and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were phenomenal! The cheese cake was chocolate peanut butter and it was divine! Had a few of their specialty cocktails which did not disappoint either!
Good dinner crowd.wait staff nice. Clean and limited seating. But not a problem. Was not offered any dinner special? Management did not stop by our table went to the table next to ours. ? My burger was done well with good flavor. salmon salad presentation was a bit off but was yummy to the taste! Really not interested in going back.
Came in twenty minutes before closing for a beer and were expecting to be turned away or rushed. Instead we were met by a great team who worked around us, told us to take our time and were extremely accommodating. Whether you are from the area or passing through you definitely should stop by and check this place out!
The Vagabond Kitchen is well worth a stop for an amazing meal in downtown Wheeling West Virginia. The atmosphere is awesome and the staff quite knowledgeable and fun to chat with. Make sure to ask them about Chef Matt and his journeys, it will keep you entertained! The bathrooms were spotless and easy to locate. Parking was on the street but it was easy to locate an empty spot even during a busy time. Now the food: AMAZING! As foodies that have traveled the world we know a thing or two about a good meal and ours were superb. They had gluten free and vegan options available that were clearly labeled on the menu. They were very accommodating to dietary restrictions so you know everything was freshly made. The coffee was even high quality and freshly brewed. Make this a stop for a meal or even just a drink in a hipster-esque environment, you will not be disappointed.
Wheeling WV’s Vagabond Kitchen has a hipster vibe and swagger style. Jen, her team of servers and the chefs presented us with beautiful food, sparkling drinks and whimsical desserts...I rate this place 5 stars...
Looking for food that will blow your tastebuds off? How about a friendly hometown feeling? And a great staff that takes time to know you? Well look no further. Vagabond Kitchen hosted our group for a Sunday dinner and really knocked it out of the park! You definitely get what you pay for here folks, and I will definitely be making the trip north again to grab another BBQ Pork sandwich.
This place was great and our waitress Liz set the bar on how outstandingly awesome a dining experience should be! Highly recommend!
Very good menu selection of items not found in downtown Wheeling. Service was good for lunch time rush. Ate the Cuban sandwich and waffle fries. Very good tasting sandwich. The fresh made tortilla chips are awesome. Wife loved the chicken salad wrap. The cranberry set of the flavor perfectly. The table seating did not look comfortable. The booths by the window made for interesting scenery as we enjoyed our meals. Will go back to try dinner soon.
I really liked my food, a porterhouse porkchop, up until I got to the near center and it was completely raw. Literal blood was coming out of it. I summoned a waitress about it, and she was defensive, saying I ordered it medium and thats just how they make it. Yes, I did order it medium, but thats literally how they cook them by default. I didnt make a special request. No apology was issued, no compensation on the bill. I acknowledged that I had eaten most of it, and it was delicious, up until the point where I got to the rather raw pork. But regardless, I think a bit of customer service would have gone a long way here.So while our drinks were great, the garlic mashed potatoes were amazing, and the lobster pasta was quite good(albeit a bit overpriced, I dont think Ill come back, just due to how an honest mistake was handled. Really a shame too, but I expected more from a place with such high ratings. We may have just gotten a bad waitress, as every other table around us seemed to be receiving exceptional service, but I dont think Ill be back to find out.
Amazing food and service. Great steak special. Awesome apps. Recommend to everyone
