Vacaresti Park Nature Reserve in Slobozia

Văcărești Nature Park is a hidden oasis; Bucharest’s wild wetland just a 30-minute stroll from the city centre.From an unfinished piece of urban water infrastructure abandoned in 1989, Văcărești has been reconquered by nature and wildlife without any human intervention, to become one of Romania’s most diverse ecosystems. Last month, following a four-year campaign led by a small but determined group of environmental activists, the government finally granted it protected area status, officially making 183-hectare Văcărești one of the biggest urban nature parks in Europe.The diversity of landscapes is fascinating. The northern edge is a meadow with wild grass, nut trees, poplars and elms, but venture deeper into the park, towards the three interconnected lakes at its heart, and the vegetation becomes denser and more characteristic of wetlands: various types of willow, Johnson grass and water lilies.Along the way you will also come across some of the 100-odd species of bird that have been spotted in Văcărești – from wild ducks to herons. With luck, you might also see a turtle or fire-bellied toad – two protected species that have flourished in these untouched surroundings.This is the perfect place for walking or riding a bike! 👍👌

Natural Park in the middle of the city. Birds, small animals if you are lucky, trees and all...Of course, some more maintenance is needed but the legislation to protect this area is still incomplete. Hope for the best.Note: Free entrance, look for the "stairs" near Asmita Gardens for example.

Although not much of a delta, it’s still a quiet green place to stroll amid various marsh plants, at least on dry weather; place is neglected, as usual in România, but still nice;

Its certainly one of the best places in Bucharest! Large concrete constructions (former water reservoirseparate this island of peace and tranquillity from the industrialized part of the city. If youre into photography - this location is one of the best choices for you. Its also a great place for cycling and jogging.If you come with children, however, be sure to supervise them: there are no roads, a lot of swampland and some particularly dangerous places. Still, believe me, they would find it an interesting adventure. Definetely better than taking them to some mall.

One of the last natural places within Bucharest which has minimum human alteration. This is a great place to go for a walk and enjoy nature. If youre a photographer this is a great place to snap pictures of birds, insects and animals. Theres a plethora of fauna in this place.

Bucharests Delta is an wetland based inside a former reservoir build during Communist time. Nowadays stands as a protected area, a place for soul, tranquility and beautiful sunsets.

Vacaresti Delta is a green place in the middle of Bucharest. The place is far from beeing fully sanitised and arranged but it will be.You can take your kid and take a walk or a bike ride, stop and read the signs that show you some interesting nature facts and just wonder around at the same time respecting nature.

Surprising park in Bucharest. Hidden and still unpopulated. Great trail running 5.2km track around it.

Relaxing place to go and admire wild land in the middle of the city, if you are lucky you can see a lot of animals, there are around 130 species of birds living here and 6 species of amphibians, otters and foxes are also inhabitants but there are small chances to see them, you will also find observation towers throughout the park. You can bring your dog, children and even bike on the trail created for this purpose.

Amazing place in the middle of the city. The air is fantastic here and you can make long walks or enjoy a bicycle ride. You can take your camera with you because you can get lucky and catch on camera some of the amazing birds, snakes, turtles and more that live here.

the park is amazing, a great patch of wilderness in a suffocating Bucharest. it is a great place for people of all ages. you can see lots of bird species, a lot of water patches, as it is a swamp, along with viewing places that hide you, so the fauna is not disturbed

A place you would not expect to find in a town. Many volunteers, eager to show and explain about plants, birds and the history of the place.

A nice place for a stroll by bike or by foot, with children, on the outskirts of Bucharest. If you want to walk, you can take the underground to Sudului station, then go by foot. In the nearby there is the Sun Plaza mall (SW corner).

Great natural reserve, surprisingly "alive" in the middle of all that concrete buildings that surround it. If you walk to the middle of it the buzz and screeching of the traffic will slowly fade away and you will hear just frogs and crickets.
