Eclectic eatery offers small plates & wines from around the world in a picturesque setting.
Probably the crown jewel of Walnut Creek! Their braised short rib is to die for, no matter what I always always get it! The Purple Rain cocktail is a favorite
A bit pricey for lunch but good. Great atmosphere.
Every time I come here the staff is incredibly welcoming. They switch up their menus with the seasons and create delicious dishes while their cocktails are to die for. Love coming here and recommend it for anyone
We’ve been coming for years and were incredibly disappointed this week. The quality of the food as drastically decreased as with the value. $22 for 3 scallops on top of smeared labneh cheese, served on an appetizer plate. Sea bass that was too salty to consume. Kind servers that are stretched.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Order one of everything and share with the table. And save room for the apple pie. Burrsta, beet salad, short rib, and risotto were our favs.
Probably the best restaurant Ive been to. Their food is amazing, although it does change from time to time. They have great wine selection and their desserts are very good. And all for a very good price
Amazing find in Walnut Creek. Very friendly staff, excellent wine selection, and not a bad dish on the menu. Strongly recommend the beer salad and the cod.
The food quality was good. the delivery couldve been faster though and the prices were not cheap by any means.
To this day, this is still to me the best restaurant in Walnut Creek. The outdoor setting is amazing with tables in a small alley closed to traffic or tables set under a gigantic trees shade.Service has always been great, polite, respectful, fun at times, always helpful. The plates are not big. To me, thats a plus but understand it might not suit others. This offers us the possibility of sampling many dishes, and those dishes are all extremely well crafted, the presentation, the combination of flavor and textures, the taste, the sauces, everything is on point. If youre reading this and youve never been, give it a try.If you work there, thank you!
Truly amazing. Just happened to walk in. Beautiful decor and super friendly staff. Felt very welcomed.Simple and elegant menu.Food was very fresh. Excellent recommendations from our server. Every dish was perfect. We will definitely be back every time.
Everything here is so good, try everything at least once you won’t regret it. Also they have an impeccable wine selection! Customer service is quick, efficient and friendly too.Update: I came back and everything was phenomenal again! Had the stone salad (I hadn’t eaten yet that day so I wolfed that one down - soo good, forgot to take a pic sadly), the braised short rib with polenta, desert sampler and French Kiss wine flight.
Food was great, but keep in mind they are small portions that you share with table. More like appetizers.
Fabulous!!! We love this restaurant - amazing outdoor comfortable and beautiful seating, delicious food, and great drinks! I was visiting from Oregon and I want to go here every time I visit my girlfriend in San Fran! Highly recommend :)
Loved everything about this place. We chanced upon this gorgeous cozy place while sojourning through the streets of Walnut Creek. We were promptly seated and what followed was a delightful evening of wine flights, delicious small plates and a beautiful memory. The servers were very courteous and kind. We loved the scallops, Kung Pao cauliflower, volcano chicken and the salmon dish. Highly recommend this place for the gorgeous ambience and the amazing food.
Super delicious food, great wine and champagne sets, perfect desserts . The atmosphere was calm and cozy with fireplaces and fountains. The servers were friendly and nice. Love this place
The best restaurant in Walnut CreekThe food amazing !The service is greatAnd the menu change all the time so you always have a new dishes to try .Love it !
Always great food and drinks at VA de Vi! Everything is great on the menu. They change it every few months. The blacken cod small dish is great for sharing.
The food is solid. Some dishes absolutely hit it out of the park and others are just good, but its never bad, and you cant beat the wine flight value. Our faves right now are the shrimp with bacon marmalade and the beet salad. We also had a stellar sprouts dish tonight with yogurt. The strawberry rhubarb salad fell flat for me because the goat cheese cheesecake muffin was just confusing to me and didnt seem to serve any flavor purpose, but again, not bad, just not great. The absolute best waiter here is Zach(k?). My husband and I have been lucky enough to be at one of his tables several times. He always anticipates our needs and is just a very natural and confident person. His efficiency and personality really enhance your dining experience. So if you get him, relax, you will be taken care of!
Delicious joint. They have seasonal foods and dishes, and a rotating stockpile of wines and cocktails. I have never had a dish that I didnt like! If youre looking for a place with a classy atmosphere, happy employees, quality, food and drinks, and a fresh menu... This is the place to go!
Wow the outdoor lighting is incredible for a date. Solid wine and food. A little expensive but it’s a place for a date what do you expect! I know the server prob had a long day. She was okay asking “anything”? Better than not coming around.
I love it that the menu changes so I can try new foods and it doesnt get boring ever. The small plates makes it fun and affordable to share a meal. Tasty, High quality, sophisticated, creative dishes. When we are on a time limit its the best option since service is very fast.
It’s rare to find a place that does simple, but takes the time make it elegant. The ribs & thai chicken were simple but covered in elegance. The wine flight opened my pallet to some reds I have been overlooking. I’ll definitely be back sooner then later.
Tasty tapas menu with a variety of options from fresh/tangy to savory to sweet. Everything was delicious! Perfect for lunch on the patio or dinner on the town. Patio is filled with florals and greenery plus a soothing water fall. Staff is friendly and service is lovely.
Food was good, service was mediocre. Buratta and Watermelon salad were both very light for summer and refreshing. Unfortunately we were sat on the side with flies landing on us throughout our meal 😕
Rustic feel about the entire experience. The dark oaks and red on the interior of the restaurant mirrored the feel and flavor of the most delicious well crafted plates. Perfectly cooked, fresh flavors that allowed the food to shine. Service was delightful and courteous. Each plate held its own individual taste in a setting that could easily been mistaken for the French countryside wine tasting tour. The house reccomendations of wines are all delicious, yet on the dry side. Fun, relaxing and delicious food and spot on cocktails.
The quaint Italian bistro experience we all look for! Spacious outdoor seating in their alley way allows for a nice environment. For you wine drinkers, you’ll be set with their menu of options by the glass, bottle, and flight. For eats, I recommend getting the heirloom tomato salad + the arancini appetizers.👌🏼
We came because dogs are welcome outside and our kids said it was a great place. We loved the heat from the fire pit. For 4 we ordered 8 tapas but our favorites were the Alaskan black cod, short ribs, beet salad, lobster and shrimp. Each dish was artistically presented and bursting with flavor. I loved how only 2 dishes were brought out at a time so we could eat them while they were hot. It was a wonderful meal!!!
Food is great and service is good. We arrived about 15 minutes after opening on a Saturday and were seated outside immediately. We ordered one of the white wine flights, the cheese plate, crab cake, asparagus and burger. All were delicious and the overall experience was nice and a first for us. The wine flight was interesting and fun and well definitely come back to try more. The crab cake really stood out from the other delicious food. The only area of improvement was the long wait after we got our cheese plate. Food came after the wait staff noticed is sitting around and came over to say the food is coming soon. We were not in a hurry so not a big deal. We had a great time and will come back!
Excellent food and wines. Outdoor seating. Better make reservations. Been here before, this was our visit back since the pandemic. Felt good to get some normalcy.
Found this place due to the unusually high rating and Im glad I did. Dining was outside in a type of alleyway leading the the main side entrance. Tables were well spaced and staff was very attentive.Burata was fresh, mushroom poutine amazing with the smokiness of the mushrooms winning me over. Tried the fettuccine and this was even better being homemade, spicy with great texture. Finished off the excursion with a simple cookie and ice cream (not gelato). Cookie was a bit hard with not enough chocolate chips but the ice cream was really fresh and unique for a simple vanilla.I would be happy to come here every day just got the poutine and fettuccine as they are perfection. Also the wine selection is insane here and I love that they offer flights to sample them. This is a place that should not be passed up, added to my favorites.
VA de Vi is excellence delivered. Easily the best restaurant in Walnut Creek, the quality they put into every dish is fantastic. The textures and flavors are well thought out, to include select cocktails that are both complex and interesting. This is the best place to go when you just need excellent food and service. Perfect for first dates to leave an impression, and memorable moments. To the owner and chef, thank you.
Absolutely gorgeous outdoor sitting. Im not a big fan of inside, its kind of dark but outside is perfect design and execution. It is a pricy restaurant even for lunch. But everything we tasted was perfectly flavored and cooked. We had shrimp and grits, fettuccini and fillet something. The service was also fast and friendly. It is some place to go again and again, if you can afford;)
Octopus and Pt. Reyes blue Cheese Plate. A few of the great dishes. Pork Belly and Braised Short Ribs were excellent, but by far the Black Cod was amazing. Cod literally melts in your mouth. Wish the old fashioned was better as I am not a wine drinker. Food was fabulous.
Have come here many times but the last one was bad enough that its going to be my last time there. The staff was awesome but the food wasnt quite what it used to be. The octopus wasnt octopus, it was a squid! The crispy beef belly wasnt crispy and so charred that it was bitter. The lechon was basically floating on sweet and sour sauce (yes, it seemed like bottled sauce too). Medium rare burger was purple (meaning its uncooked). I used to love va de vi, the last time ruined it for me.
This place was pretty impressive and priced reasonably in WC with the type of food. The grilled octopus served with potatoes and chorizo was amazing. Next time Ill just order two. The burger was decent and had flavor. We were disappointed with tomato risotto but wasnt bad. Still 5 stars and well be back. Friends recommended cod here as well.
Simply amazing. Small portions but very tasty. Will definitely go again.
I wish we didn’t order so many dishes because I am so full, but the point is that it’s not possible! Once you tasted one dish, you fall in love and want more and more. The meal is not only very tasty but also very-very beautiful. Also, I like the interior, which brings fantastic atmosphere.
I love trying new places and this place came highly recommended, so I gave it a try and let me tell you weve tried just about everything on menu. The food is beyond delish and the wine selection is just as good. 😍🍷 And the chocolate souffle.... oh my my, it was magic in my mouth 💗
My first time in Walnut Creek in forever, maybe ever actually... cute little downtown area. This spot has a really nice outside patio both in front of the restaurant (small spaceand on the alley side.We tried the beet and citrus salad - amazing!!! Such great flavors, I never would have thought to use those flavors. I actually took a crummy picture because I already started eating it 😂The curry chicken was delish and the salmon was yummy. The pomegranate molasses was a bit sweet, but all tasty.Great foodie place. Glad this place was recommended!
The ambiance here is wonderful, you dont even realize you are smack dab in downtown Walnut Creek. The fountains help muffle the downtown noise. The out door seating under the big old oak tree and in the passage way is delightful. Indoors is also very charming. The food is all small plates to share and is extremely well presented, tasty and totally satisfying. The menu changes seasonally and is always well thought through, creative and a culinary adventure. Make sure to make reservations! Dont miss the pond the koi & turtles.
It was busy when we came so it is expected that service would take longer.mMy husband and I shared the Spanish wine flight which was really good wine. For the food, we had the lechon, ahi tartare, grilled octopus, mushroom risotto, and alaskan cod. Everything was good. For dessert we had the dessert sampler, twas also good.
Food was terrible! This is the one of the worst food places for American fusion in WC. There is only 3-4 small ones in grilled octopus which is very expensive, the way they cook rely heavily on lots of strong flavor, red pepper, sweet taste for lechon that easily mask original flavor from ingredients itself. I was expecting what lechon looks like and how taste it is!This is a mind blowing, negatively! Lechon taste is not that bad! But there is sticky rice on the bottom which taste bland/heavy. In addition, lots of sweet chile spoil the taste. Most foods are not that special. Anyone can make this types of foods. What specialty is it here? Spain? Korean? Italian? Mexican? American? They make all dishes from soup through pasta, hamburger, seafood to chicken, taco etc,.If i were food inspector for SF eater, Zagat, i would give 1 star on that. Don’t be fooled by nice photo uploaded on google reviews!!! Moreover, What was terrible was they cleaned my table before i got check.
I have been here a few times and they have yet to disappoint. The service is quick and the food is wonderful. Most of the menu is small portions so you can sample a few dishes for one meal. They have a wonderful selection of wines and cocktails as well. My favorite spot is actually the chefs table. My wife and I love to sit there and watch the cooks in action during the rush, its almost meditative. Will be here again and again!
First off: The Alaskan Cod keeps getting better. That being said, the service is always great and wine list is great. The food has never been disappointing and I cant think of a time that I left wanting.Take a date, take your mommy, take some client. You cant go wrong.
If youre looking for an amazing wine and tapas place, youve found it!!! Small plates to share but big enough to share with another ! Tacos were amazing, as was the cod.. also got the fried chicken which was good but not as good as the tacos. Chacuterie on point which you choose what cheese and meat you want for 6$ each. Some may think it is pricey, but absolutely great quality! Dessert was peanut butter smores and profiteroles with coffee gelato. Will be back for sure!!
The pork belly and Alaskan cod were AMAZING! The cod was definitely my favorite. The toffee pudding was great too! I will definitely be coming back!
Very creative small bites and good selection of wine flights. Excellent outdoor seating in the summer. To my last server: please pour my wine. I paid 3X markup for it.
Very high quality small plates, with Spanish and Southern European flavors. Great wine flights and selection, I had several new grapes!
Went here for our anniversary! It was a very nice experience, and the staff were wonderful! They serve a very interesting, Asian inspired menu. Also, if youre visiting in the summer make sure to try the squash blossoms! My only complaint was the Virgin mint mojito they made my boyfriend was very bitter and lacked a good mint flavor. Id recommend against ordering that.
Portion are not the biggest, however the food is above average. The service is really good waitresses do an amazing job. Wine list is huge good choice of European wines. If you go for dessert choose the tasting for 2 ;the host at door is rude. (-0.5 star)
