VU Thermal Lodge in Taupo

Friendly service, clean facilities and fantastic lake view

Had stayed before years ago ... hadnt changed but was clean and tidy, was ok for my needs overnight and I got a couple of soaks in the mineral water bath out back of my room, I really needed a soak badly, truck driver / X career soldier aches n pains catching up after a straight run up on motorcycle from Palmerston North.

Loved our stay! Nice romantic room, small but cosy...Having out own thermal bath in a little courtyard joined to our room, through a door at the back, was amazing! Would love to go back tomorrow!!! The host was lovely, nert, very friendly and accommodating! ❤️

Very good accommodation. Great bed.Enjoyed thermal baths. Great relaxation stop. Shame it rained for all 3 days we were in Taupo.

We have a lovely stay, service was great. The communal pools were awesome, private spa was the reason we stayed and did not dissapoint. Room was clean and comfy will definately stay again.

We went to ask for accomodation. That had one room. The Lady did not want to show the room which we understand . She closed the reception window while we were still looking at the room online as advised by her. Absolute nonsense .

Really enjoyed our stay , lady from reception is absolutely lovley made us feel right at home , room was very nice and private spa was perfect , Highly recommended 👌

Friendly staff, lovely clean room with a stunning view. The shower was absolutely amazing with the best water pressure ever!! Highly recommend.

Room was small but cosy, great hot tub, nice bed, fab shower, good parking and really handy to the lake and Taupo township, really nice hosts would definatly stay again

Great customer service, lovely friendly staff. Clean and tidy room. Small kitchenette. Private spa bath out back. Not super modern interior but clean and tidy. Very comfy bed! Neighbours were noisey in their spa bath next door so wish there was more sound proofing but thankfully they were quieter at 1130pm ish. Very close to Lake Taupo so location is amazing and close to shops and other touristy spots. No kids which is made very clear when booking so not sure how others reviewing didnt see that part. All and all a nice stay, thank you!

Had a 4 night stay over Easter which was OK.The room was dated, not to bad but really needs to be updated. Has been updated previously but that was many years ago.The thermal spa is the real gem and was the reason I booked here.

Used to really love coming here and had been my go to stop when traveling between the country. However they dont allow babies here (due to health and safety reasonsso guess we cant stay here anymore. Really recommend this place if you havent decided to start a new family. The private spa in each room is very private relaxing and enjoyable.

We had such an amazing time staying at the lodge. Beautiful watching the sunset over the lake at the little lookout and the room was exactly what we needed for our getaway. The private hot tubs were an absolute treat, especially at night! Not to mention the lovely staff and the heated pool which were the icing on the cake. See you next time! :D

We stayed one night 29/3/2022. I was shocked when we first walked in having paid $225 direct to the motel. Immediately the room(shad a tired sense of the 1970s about it. It is a collection of small rooms and half-rooms with no flow and no aspect to the lake. We did have a nice view of the lake if we went outside which was an open terrace shared by other guests. The place has had a "make-over" and the quality of the work is terrible. I include photos of the mosaic tiling as examples of this and there was also a leak from the shower in the bathroom and other fittings etc have been attached in a crooked way. The private pool we had was very old, once again a 1970s style pool. The larger pool complex for other guests did not look inviting. I made the booking in a hurry and was prepared to pay for something which sounded quite special but we were deeply disappointed in it. Not recommended.

Room was very clean and tidy.The view was amazing.The outdoor private spar in the room was an exceptional experience to be remembered.Unfortunately for me there was no ice maker in the fridge or ice on site.

We were kindly greeted with a smile and great service! Such a clean and lovely spot to stay, super close to town! Couldnt recommend it more!

Bit more than I would normally spend. But as soon as I walked in the room I was stunned at the size. Amazing rooms and facilities, I have found my new vacation spot.

Was told I was dumb because I didnt read the policy about no kids, had booked online stating I had infant with me, went out for walk with him, it came over and told me no kids allowed told her that I booked online with an infant then was told I was dumb because I didnt read the policy. Wouldnt recommend this awful experience to any family.that thing must not be able to have kids because. Her house her rules she yelled multiple times not listening to a word we said. Pulled the fingers as we drove away. Absolutely discussed in the way that manager handheld things. Yes I didnt read the policy.. who does. I stated I had infant with me which is why I chose that place. Biggest mistake. Maybe it should tell the booking agencys that no kids allowed and take it of the search when looking for rooms with kids..

Spent a week here. Was very happy with our stay and would happily use them again. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was very well maintained. The room came fully equipped with plates, pots and a microwave which ment we could eat in if we wanted to. Private hot tub was deffinly a high light. Having the air con unit directly over the bed was also very nice at night as we went during summer. Would 100% recommend for both a long term stay or just a couple nights, had no issues at all.

We did a booking for V U Thermal Lodge, Taupo via Booking.com. We have done a series of booking through booking.com and have never faced a problem like this. I was accompanied along with my wife and our less than one year old baby was traveling from Palmerston North, and it was extremely tiresome. We were quite relieved on reaching the lodge, but the worst was yet to come. We were “welcomed” by a receptionist who had such a cold behaviour. The lady over the reception on seeing us said that kids under the age of 9 years old are not allowed, but we are quite sure we had the filter on with the baby, as that’s how we have done the booking till now. Is it because we were brown skinned that she had such a behaviour or is just having a bad day? Nevertheless, it such a terrible attitude to be shown to anyone at the door, its not that we haven’t paid and asking for accommodation, we have booked and then being welcomed in such a way was so heart-breaking. She just talked so rudely through the window and kept on shutting the window when we wanted to clarify our side, atleast she should have the courtesy to open the door and hear our side of the story. She kept on saying that our booking affected the sales of the lodge and its too late to get a refund and that we need to be talking to Booking.com. It would be have been better if you had an ounce of kindness in the way you dealt with us.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the lady at the office. She was warm and welcoming and we felt at home instantly. She kept us fully informed and showed genuine interest in getting to know who we were. Of course the room was stunning, a great size, with a great view and the spa was just divine! But the highlight of our stay was the lovely lady. Thank you so much for accommodating us ☺️

Luxurious bed, very nice and friendly and accomodating host.Pool was fabulous. Hot mineral pool in our unit was a huge plus.

Stayed at VU Thermal Lodge last weekend and had the best stay my partner and would 100% recommend. We will definitely be back next time we come to Taupo. Also the lady was lovely and very appreciative that we stayed at here. Loved having our private Thermal spa suite. 10/10 Thank you.

We had the most wonderful welcome when we arrived from the loveliest lady. Our room was wonderfully quirky, spotless, with the most wonderful thermal pool......after 3/4 hour soaking I slept like a baby in the comfy bed. It was lovely sitting out on the deck Saturday night enjoying the view......and a beautiful bottle of wine. Thank you🥰. We will definitely book again

My Partner and I stayed at Vu last night and loved our stay! The lady receptionist was so lovely and friendly. The room was everything we needed for a short stay. Loved that we had our own private Hot Pool connected to our room. Very easy check in and out process and the location was central to the township and restaurants.

Amazing service, We were greeted at the front door to reception with big smiles and welcomed. Even though its winter there was no problem organizing the bbq for us. Clean and very comfortable unit with an amazing private thermal pool. Lots of personal touches as well. Very impressive we will defiantly be back. THANK YOU 😊

Awesome stay with a great view of the lake. Carol was wonderful and very friendly! The room was spotless and had everything we needed. The spa bath was so relaxing and so good on those chilly nights. Will definitely come back and stay again at the VU on the next visit to Taupo. Thank you

We ended up booking in the school holidays, was a bit pricey. On check in the receptionist was friendly and very helpful. Room was cold on arrival but premises were clean and tidy. We had the bottom floor rooms but you can hear people in the upstairs premises walking around also the plumbing and extractor fans from the bathroom and kitchen is noisy and echoes into the adjoining room. Overall was a pleasant stay, was nice to have your own thermal pool.

We stayed in a beautiful room at the vu thermal lodge. The host was very kind and very helpful, she explained the benefits of the mineral water thermal pools and how they worked.Our room was very neat and tidy and it was very comfortable sleep. We will definitely staying here again In the future. Only reason we didnt give it a 5 star as it needs a good Waterblast and a tidy up at the front :)Very happy!

Could not have asked for a better place to relax, unwind and rest! The thermal mineral water spa pools are the biggest win at this place. But everything else is just worth staying here. Carol is an amazing host, who is very kind and caring. She is also very knowledgeable about the area and approachable for any queries you might have! Will definitely be back to stay!!!

The reception is extremely hospitable with very friendly service. The rooms are beautiful with great use of space. Awesome value for money, great view of the lake just outside the door. Highly recommend.

Best motel experience I have had . We stayed in room with private thermal tub for two nights. Glad we chose to stay two nights so we could enjoy the mineral thermal pool. Also enjoyed the cute and quirky lighting . Room clean and comfortable. Lovely and relaxing wonderful for an adult getaway. Thank you.

So cozy and beautiful, and I appreciated the thoughtful design choices throughout our room, like the mood lighting that you can switch between cool and warm. Had everything we needed, and the private thermal bath was the best!! Would definitely come back in the future.

Different room same great experience. Awesome couples accommodation. Thermal pools in some units. Clean and comfortable. A very thoughtful layout to the units with independent amenities. Plush beds. This is my 4th stay over the years and each time I haven’t been disappointed. If I went to Taupo in a storm and was stuck in my unit I would still say I had a great time away.

My second stay in 6 months, even better than the first stay as I had two nights this time. Although an older property spotlessly clean and comfortable. Excellent location, perfect deck to watch the sunset over the lake. Own private thermal hot tub is what I came for. Carol so friendly, accommodating and helpful at all times very welcoming. Short walk to good restaurant Chicken and Mole also nearby cafe 15 min walk or 3 min drive Zest Cafe with excellent food including Keto and Gluten Free options. With the Lake across the road easy to enjoy early morning or late event walk.

I booked last minute due to a blown-out tyre, and from the minute I called up, Carol was incredibly helpful!When I got there, and for my entire stay, she greeted me by name, and made me feel more like close family than a one-night customer. We had a lovely chat about our previous business experiences and travels as I was checking out and waiting for my ride back to the tyre shop.It was clear from the very start that Carol and her family take great pride in their business and love what they do.Very well appointed room, comfortable bed, INCREDIBLE views of Lake Taupo, and very, very clean throughout. Will definitely recommend this place!

Carol the owner is just AMAZING, so accommodating and so lovely. The place is wonderful for all! My partner and I spent 5 days over Xmas and NY and have had such a comfy and relaxing stay. The view of the lake is amazing. Close to everything as well. Would only stay here in Taupo as it is really perfevt. Thank you so much

Great service. Spacious & clean. Beds were great. Location was fantastic as not far away from shops. Beautiful view of Lake Taupo. Loved the thermal spa, especially as both our rooms had their own. Very clean & hygienic. So I would gladly give 5 out of 5 stars. Would definitely come back.

Absolutely gorgeous place with attention and care to detail - you can really feel a lot of love has been put into creating a comortable stay. The owner/manager was quirky and friendly - we appreciated her warmth and hospitality. We had our own private thermal spa just off the bedroom with lake views leading on to a massive deck on the corner of the park and beach. You can dig for hot water right outside on the lake too! Will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

Just spent 2 nights in Room 16 which is upstairs, beautiful views of the lake, we liked having separate kitchen and dining room.Bathroom had been decorated very tastefully.Out door pool was very clean and lovely to soak in after a busy day.Very friendly host.Will be coming again, thanks Carol.

For over $200 a night you would expect pretty good accommodation... well one would think, so but this place was the pits! The room smelt like damp wet socks, it was like a fridge when you walked in even on a hot sunny day so the heat pump had to be on all the time, no Sky channels or for that matter Free View. Could hear those in the above rooms stomping around which continued through the night, not sure what the go was with the large crab and rose wall lights but tacky and old decor. One star only for the thermal pool, old but good. Would not recommend nor will we stay again, better accommodation to be had in Taupo.

They have a certain number of rooms with private mineral baths. Unfortunately we couldnt get one, but they also have an indoor communal one and in summer an outside pool. The room we were in was up a flight of very steep stairs, we were warned before booking. The room was actually a large queen bed,plus two singles in a separate room. Big kitchen. Well laid out bathroom with a very good shower. Very good view of the lake from a little balcony area.I dont know that there was quite enough parking for all the rooms as some cars were parked on the roadside.

Me and my wife stayed here for 2 nights. Its in a near perfect location just off the main highway with a fantastic view of the lake from the common deck. The rooms a very clean with good air con and the room we stayed in had a private geothermal pool with its own private space. The owners from the start we very welcoming and accomidatingAll in all a great weekend retreat for a couple. Loved it and might have to pop there again for a break away.

We loved staying at the Vu Thermal Lodge. It was the perfect location - close to the lake, town and amenities. Our hostess was kind, helpful and friendly. Our unit was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. The view from our balcony was spectacular. A highlight was the personal use of the hot pools and heated pool. Highly recommended! Thank-you!

This place is amazing. We felt so welcome. We stayed in room 13 - Premier One-Bedroom Apartment with Thermal PoolThis room was great and had everything we could need. The thermal tub in this room is exceptional and we spent the good part of an afternoon relaxing in it. Property is clean and well maintained and staff are friendly and welcoming. The view of the lake is awesome, we loved walking up and having a coffee on the deck with such a beautiful view. Would recommend if staying in Taupo and will be back to stay again. Thanks!

Manager and staff were so friendly and inviting all throughout our stay, and the thermal bath inside the room was the icing on the cake in a room already equipped with a kitchen and a nice clean bathroom. The view from the room was fantastic and the chairs and tables outside gave a great stylish touch. Location was perfect as well being lakeside and only a 3min drive to the city centre.
