VA Flavors Jamaican Restaurant - Jamaican restaurant in Petersburg, United States
Good patties but you have to catch them early enough because the run out of patties and coco bread
Great location. Good food. Make sure to check out the escovitch or brown stew fish. The chicken soup is the best (a little spicy-as it ought to be). The large cup is almost twice the size of the small, costs only $1.50 more and serves two people. The chef (my Rasta bredrinis awesome.
The jerk chicken with red beans and rice an cabbage was the best Ive had. I am only in town on work for another 10 days. But I definitely plan on going back at least a couple more time to try the multitude of delicious options that they offer
Oh my gosh this place is a hidden gem!!!! Amazing food, great laid back place. Generous servings, and nothing was bland. Try the Jerk and a pineapple ginger soda.
The food was amazing!! We moved from a different state and was looking for a jamaican restaurant. I had the oxtail and my husband had jerk chicken. The portions are great. Had co co bread also. Had their ginger pineapple drink, highly recommended this place. Staff is friendly, food is great, prices are good. Go check them out!!
Great place, jus cant dine in comfort because it entirely to hot in there
The food here is delicious, prepared upon arrival to ensure its fresh and HOT. I originally ate the restaurant food from a meeting at my workplace. Since it was delicious, I wanted more of the food. I ordered here twice in one week (curry chicken, oxtails, and rum cake). The rum cake is very moist, enough rum, that it melts in your mouth. The food is worth the price.
Delicious food!!!!! All cooked fresh upon order, I really appreciate the professionalism. Most definitely returning.
Only ran in to get some patties and was happily surprised that they had Veggie and Chicken. At this point, and I apologize, but I enter all Jamaican restaurants expecting them to not have standard items. I used to love the original Flavors on Sycamore St. in the Burg and would buy Baba Roots there but they didnt have any at this one, no points docked for that. The patties were aight, nothing special. The service was transactional and the restaurant was empty, that couldve been better. But the thing that really threw me for a loop and I didnt dock points for it was the posters on the wall. Lauryn Hill, cool. But Pac and Snoop?!?!? And no Biggie??? Biggie was Jamaican and mentioned/shouted out VA a lot.
Food good, service not so good. More rice than meat and a small serving of cabbage for a size large.
Food had good flavor but took forever. Ordered the fish and she got it out of the freezer from behind the counter and passed it back. Took almost an hour to be finished.
Nothing good to say about VA Flavors (except the lunch deal). Never consistent, gave me goat when I order chicken, TWICE. Youre lucky If you get plantain. Canned mixed vegetables in the cabbage (yuck). Rice hard, or have a burnt taste. It tastes like a different cook every time I go. Ive given them numerous chances to redeem themselves. Overall, for someone that knows Jamaican food, their food is not good at all. No flavor what so ever. You get lured in by the wonderful aroma of curry but thats all!!! Please try Jamaica House or any other restaurant and youll see the difference in AUTHENTIC JAMAICAN FLAVOR. Ive been trying for 4 yrs now. Its just not good.
Food was great ! But the lady that took my order was rude and very unprofessional!
My job is around the corner I was almost an hour early stopped by to get something here to day but no one took my order and she saw me standing there.... When I go back Ill make sure I dont have to work that day🤔🤔
Cant go wrong at VA Flavors. Anything and everything they have is good. My favorite is the Oxtail.
Food is good and economical, Ginger pineapple drink was great!I see people want you to improve your customer service .... do everything to improve it cos your food is good.
Very good food.
Food was good. They gave me so much rice an hardly no meat
Absolutely amazing! Havent found a spot where Jamaican food tastes this authentic since Queens NY, ESPECIALLY around Chester, Col.Hghts, Hopewell, Petersburg. Side note: Do not be put off by paper place mats and the slightly out dated decor, thats not what your there for!!
Food is usually good unless it’s after 730 the rice is usually hard and old. I can never get them to pick up the phone either
Food is ok. Not the greatest Jamaican, that would be Carenas. Service is terrible, super super slow. No need to call in an order to pick up, because it wont be ready. Youll have to put in your order again when you arrive. They pretty much take your call in, then ignore it. I called 20 minutes ahead, arrived and waited another 30 minutes to get my food.
Need better Customer service, also no sides were prepared..had to wait over 20min for red beans and rice along with cabbage.VERY CLEAN ENVIRONMENT
I really enjoyed the food. Everything tasted great. Only thing I didnt like was the rum cake. As far as the service goes, we called ahead for our food, waited over 30 minutes to go pick it up, but when we arrived, they hadnt even started making any of it, so we had to wait about 25-30 minutes for it. And the cooks made fantastic food but, the cashier was not only rude on the phone but, also in person. Prices were good, large portions of food. Customer service could use some work.
The food is alright. However, their customer service stinks !! Management needs to refine their customer approach on yhe phone and in store.
Small Jerk chicken or brown stew w/ carrots, cabbage, red beans and rice. $8.42. Very very good and filling. Got it on a cold day. Perfect. Back to watching Saturday football 🏈
I usually go to Va flavors frequently, this store does not have any customer services skills at all. Food is okay, sometimes they will give you extra sauce with the curry chicken (only thing i orderother times no. Today when i went to order my regular i ask if they can put the plantain seperate due to my how my pregnancy is going a smell of a banana will make me puke. And whoever the lady was that was in there refuse to put it seperate. I order a large because I was sharing with the plate with my son and he does like plantains. What upset me is basically if i’m paying for a SERVICE, why do I have to overly explain a simple request . The large plates are 9.00 and the lady said i would have to pay a extra 50 cent for a side plate. My order ended up coming up to 10.00 dollars . I WILL NEVER return to va flavor this jamaican restaurant. At this point i’m no longer wanting to keep them in business it’s no point . Bad service and then to over explain a simple request ? that’s too much just for 1 plate of food that is precooked and not heated when you eat it. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to come here . Instead i much rather go to Jamaican house located on Broad street Richmond, Virginia. I rather deal with people who love to make customers happy and is not robbing from their consumer blindly . I really hope this business change the way they are servicing their customers.
The place was awesome. Staff was very nice. Had a slight problem understanding sure to accent but that just made it better. Food made to order. To a little while but man was it worth it. Next time I drive through Virginia Im definitely stopping there again whether or not Im hungry. I recommend EVERYTHING!
Food was great but it takes a long time even when you call your order in. I called one day to order the curry shrimp and they were out. So disappointing.
First time purchasing food from here. Service was good and fast. Shawna was sweet. Oxtails were delicious!
Excellent Curry Goat, the meat was very tender! I received a free drink too!
Nonchalant service can sum it up. I go here often because I like jamaican food. The thing is Id come here more if they actually had (in storewhat they say they have on the menu. Seems like 70% of the time you call too place a order or walk in to eat theyre out of something. No oxtail, no Goat, no curry chicken, no jerk chicken, no brown stew, beef Pattys burnt. Also if you call a order in for pick up they dont make your food until you come in and pay. So you still have to wait, which kind of defeats the purpose of a call in right? Small meat portions with a whole lot of rice, peas, and cabbage. Food is tasty though
Im from NY visiting family. My review comes from a place of experience when it comes to west Indian restaurants. Its official. You want oxtail, sorry they dont have any. Yes its hand written on the menu but they dont have any. I guess you have to ask what do they have or youll just be standing there looking crazy. They only have white rice, rice and peas and cabbage for sides. Lady forgot to give me utensils for my take out as if it was on cue. You get the idea. Typical horrible service from west indian take out... but if you do manage to get food, its pretty good lol. 2 stars for decent west indian food with typical horrible service. Even in Virginia which makes me sad. I had my Hopes up for Virginia charm but nah, more like the Bronx
Food was a bit pricey but it was good. And the ginger drink was delish.
Great food REAL FOOD and good service, I love it HEY JOE! HEY TJ! Awesome young men.
Never disappointed with my purchases!! Food is always on point.
First time going and last time going there. They gave me the wrong order and had to drive all the way back to get what I ordered.
I luv a good mom and pop set up as I call them! The food is good. Getting a free drink with your meal is a plus!
Great food. Patties are perfection. Curried goat and jerk shrimp are nothing short of remarkable...topped off with excellent customer service!
I just wish they had oxtails ready at nay given time because they are so good. That is half my fault because I always go when Im starving and have no patience. The food is great. The facility is clean. I am a repeat customer.
When I want some different flavors. This is where I go. The food is always good.
Service always fast and top notch. Been coming since the first spot in Petersburg. Feels like a piece of my family ancestry here. My moms side is from Jamaica.
Solid lunch spot. Jerk wings and brown stew chicken are winners. Curry good too.
You place your order on the phone and show up 45 minutes later and they just start to cook it. They always take orders on the phone but never played the food until you get there. So you end up waiting anyway as if you just walked in. The food was pretty good but the wait was unacceptable.
Great atmosphere. Yummy food, it the food takes a while to get out to you but thats pretty typical at a jamaican spot ... overall satisfied
Great oxtails! Tender, juicy, falling off the bone. This was some of the best Jamaican food I have ever tasted. A good amount for a decent price.
Great patties....if they ever have them! Been there last 4 times, all different times of the day, and never have any.
The food were delicious. I would have given 5 stars but I ordered white rice and received rice with beans.
Many choices on the menu. Chicken Pattis, (spelled as they are written on the menu), regularly made ready. The curry chicken...Im obsessed with. Oh and the Friday specials are worth a 45 minute drive from any direction. Investment company for sure.
This place is incredible. Great food, friendly staff, and a lunch deal that cant be beat! I eat here on a weekly basis.
Pretty good food. Large quantity. Very spicy jerk chicken.Went in summer and it was pretty warm inside. If you want Jamaican in colonial heights, this is a pretty good option.
