Utsav Wine Bar & Restaurant - Wine bar in Akola, India
When youre away from home for a while, in a foreign land, and you just crave for a homely reminder, Utsav is totally the Indian restaurant that you should walk into! Be it the fried rice, a chicken dish, a fish dish, or a Desi ghee ka halwa, its the ultimate soul food taste for an Indian away from home!!
Food - 5Hospitality - 2Menu - 2Price - 2Food quality is very good. One of the best indian food quality in Manhattan.Hospitality is poor. All staff always seem to be very bored and uninterested.Menu is made of old and torn paper and doesnt make you feel attracted towards the food. Also menu choice is very limited in the drinks and desserts section. They are frequently out of drinks/desserts that you select from an already very limited choice.Price on menu is misleading due to the compulsory gratuity added at the end.
Tenhzing dolma was an amazing host, really appreciate her friendless and kind personality. She came to check on us from time to time which I really appreciated. The food was amazing and we were served nicely, I highly recommended it
Utsav was the perfect place for our Diwali bash. The food was amazing. We especially enjoyed having Indo- Chinese on the menu. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good food. The hostess and team were kind and attentive. Thank you.!!!
Tenzin dolma was a great host and the service was excellent. She is the beat host I have seen in new york. This was the best Indian restaurant ever.
Food is good, service no problem, pretty spacious, nice clean interior. They have a well stocked bar at street level and plenty of sitting in dining area upstairs. It used to be very busy some years back but now I have a feeling it is less favored.
Traveled from atlanta. Came to this restaurant after reading reviews. Service was good. Food took too long to come out and while tplacinf thr order I told the waitor we would like to food spicy. The food was completely tasteless.
Very expensive. Mediocre service. Please note the prices on the menu already include 18% gratuity as stated in their menu. So be aware of the tip you give. Food was nothing great when compared to other Indian restaurants. Also, the methi malai matar is actually spinach malai matar. Disappointed.
Star for the lady and gentleman managers who were supporting servers on Saturday night. Nothing else deserved anything. Such poor service. We ordered enough food to try and be fair. Our bill for 2 people was $116, we got 1 soup, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 1 dessert. They had less staff for the amount of people buzzing in. There was also a party going on in the event space. Service was not good. Manager was nice and making sure they are helping guests, cant say the same for the server we had. And it was not just our table, but also the 2 tables either side of us. The server did not care an ounce. It was busy I get it, but it still takes away from the experience of dining at a place.Hot and sour soup and Mishti doi were good. Naan and chicken dish were basic. Szechuan noodles were a disaster.Asked for spicy, server ignored the request and said it was already very spicy. When the dish came, it was clearly cooked and left out for a while and was just warm. Spice was waving bye from Pluto. Had to flag the server down again who just took it back and returned with the same stale dry food just reheated with red chili powder added. Not Szechuan.I wanted to ask the crowd as to why they visited and wanted to warn on-comers to not to waste money and precious evening. There is Wayyy better food for way better prices in NY. This was an awful experience. Do not go. I know that I wont.
One of the finest dining experiences in NYC Times Square. The food, ambiance, people , environment was amazing . Dama was very gracious, Jovi our Server was the BEST. Jovi made sure the food come out to our Spice level, was lip smacking delicious and this is coming from a foodie, when you go ask for Jovi. Thank me later.
Delicious authentic Indian food. They serve halal meat (chicken and goat). Nice ambience and welcoming staff. Location is great too, neaby times square. We ordered mutton palak and butter chicken and both dishes were amazing. Taste of rice could be better but paratha and naan were great. A bit expensive but I think it’s good value for money. Highly recommended.
As a born and raised New Yorker who is always on the hunt for exciting food experiences, Utsav exceeded my expectations. While I went in expecting to try the Indian classics I was pleasantly surprised when the owner, Nandita, convinced me and my guest to let her take the reins and let her order an array of items off the Indochinese menu. Nandita is from the Kolkata region of India, which is known for its Indochinese food - a cuisine I had never had the opportunity to taste...until now! From start to finish the dishes I tried were packed with flavor, texture, and spice combinations I had never tasted before. Some of my favorite dishes were the Lemon and Coriander Chicken Soup, Konjee Crispy Veggies (battered cauliflower, baby corn, potatoesin a chili sauce, Szechuan Chicken (boneless!), Konjee Crispy Lamb (which reminded me or fried pork rinds in the best way possible!!), Salt and Pepper Shrimp, and the Traditional Indochinese Hakka Noodles with veggies and chicken. For dessert I tried the "Mishti Doi" which is traditional sweet yogurt with a custard like consistency.Everything was amazing!Along with this meal I ordered the draft "Taj Mahal" beer - an Indian lager that was awesome and my guest had the homemade lemonade with ginger. If youre looking for something exciting and innovative that is based in centuries of tradition, then Indochinese food at Utsav is definitely for you. Be prepared to leave Utsav feeling stuffed and content.I cant wait to bring more people here so I can order more next time!
Update:5 years after my first visit, this place managed to move from 4* to 1*To begin with, the lady at reception was very rude and racist while assigning the table. The whole restaurant was almost empty but she put us in corner closet to the door and on one side it had a plant out of which flies kept flying out while we ate our lunch.Second, the people who came after us were served prior to us (they were AmericanIt felt terrible. We were ready to leave the restaurant but were too hungry to find another place immediately.Third, we ordered two paneer based items(something like paneer sandwich chutney and saag paneer), garlic naan, kurkuri bhindi, Gulab Jamun Cremé Burley, and whiskey on the rocks it all tasted fine until the end of lunch I started feeling stomach bug. The food messed up my stomach and I had to visit restroom every 10 minutes. None of the items from above list gives me stomach issues ever and I was certain it was something wrong with one of the food items. This led to me staying another day in New York, missing my train to home, and rebooking the accomodations and travel. Please avoid this place. The negative reviews are true. After spending almost $200(which included 18% default gratuity), we had to suffer so much.Karkari bhindi and Chai mule were the best items from the things we ordered.Service 8/10Food quality 7/10Ambiance - 8/10
This place is great , very near to Times Square hotels , good ambience. Starters are very tasty esp paneer kulcha , it comes in two small pieces and very tasty .Staff is very sweet and overall good experience.
As far as Indian food goes (especially in NYC), Ive had much better. Though a beautiful restaurant (great ambiance as well), the food here is quite mediocre (and thus also overpriced), and the staff is not attentive at all. If you are looking for good Indian food, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Very disappointed.
Very quiet and empty but waited over 20 minutes for waiter to take our order. We kept asking every server that walked by to take our order. They also didnt refill our water. People who came after us got served first. Very disappointing. Their explanation was the person who sat us down didnt tell the server...
Great food …. We ordered Indian-Chinese food and the food was very tasty.Delivery time was a little late but everything else was great!
The menu changed dramatically. Wanted our favorite tandoor chicken- instead they had something called tandoori Cornish hen which was actually so greasy and definitely not tandoori. The biryani was delicious but was also greasy. Plus the prices jumped high as well. Totally disappointed. The service also poor. So unfortunately we will not be going back to what we used to love.
Delicious food and very Delhi style flavor. Loved everything we ordered and was happy to find good Indian food. However it is strange there is no concept of tea02.09: Reply to the owner, Thank you for updating that there was chai, but being the first few customers on 1/09, your server said chai is out of stock.
Loved it. See Melvin at the bar. Great bartenders fun to sit with. Excellent service and food.
It’s been more than 50 mins!! Where is food? 😤Waiter didn’t came to greet. But mouse 🐁came twice.Charged 3$ just for pickle. (That was also little bitter)Restrooms not clean at all. Someone vomited 🤮on floor. No cleaning even after acknowledging management. No option to give 0 ⭐️Service like small village.Go to Joonoon. Little expensive but you will never have food like that.
Had a good experience in the restaurant. We ordered the chilli baby corn which is crispy and spicy. We ordered Roti and curries which tastes good as well. The waiters were professional and answered all questions well.
Great food on the Time Square New York. Friendly staff.
Not as expected- Lamb biryani is okay but I like the appetizer(Chicken Lollipop).Too pricey- Not worth
I go this Place for Lunch , Food is average If you wanna waste your money go this place and Charge 18% gratuity without any Notice It’s like a rob you this restaurant. the old guy who make me Disappointed Maybe name is Nasim this guy service too poor and he can’t memorize food name. they Restaurant Old guy not Work Perfectly, he Just Command but not like to take Oder we wait Long time for food . Never going this place again.
Food was fantastic and yes they deserve a full 5 stars but if you add 18% gratuity for 2 people dining at a regular Friday pm (was that mentioned on the menu?tell me and we wouldve happily added another 10% but dont do it and not mention it..Update: this is quite the norm throughout NYC so I went back and changed to 5 stars. The food is really good as is everything else.
One of the best indian foods! Will definitely add it to our list for NYC. Appolina made our experience even better with her hospitality and friendly nature. She gets my 5 stars as well!!
Went here in Aug first week at 12:30pm. Whole restaurant was empty, but still all servers were busy and were not attentive. After seating, we waited for 10 minutes and had to call a server since no one came to take the order. When they took the order, the server didnt explain anything about the food, didnt suggest, didnt tell the special of the day. We asked do you know the lunch special? Then he explained. After lunch it look 25 minutes for the order to come out and that too came out partial. We had to ask several times to get water (usually in high end restaurants, servers do a round check and just fill the regular water). After all that, for a party of 3, they added 18% default gratuity with no option to adjust and only option of adding more % tip. Very unhappy experience.
I was going upstairs to the restaurant today for dinner, but an extremely rude lady, who was wearing all black (probably the owner), disrespectfully stopped me and asked, "Yes, how can I help you?" even though I didnt ask her for anything. I told her I was going to the restaurant but she couldnt believe it. "Do you need the bar or restaurant?" as she condescendingly profiled me from head to toe. I told her I needed the restaurant. It was the rudest interrogation. Then they have the audacity to add 18% tip on a table for two people as if I wouldnt give them any tips. The food is good but they need to take care of their judgmental and disrespectful attitude. I dont think Ill ever go back. Learn how to treat customers.
Nobody likes getting 18% tip added automatically. But the food and service were both excellent, and well worth it. We had lamb with spinach, veggie khorma, and butter chicken, along with some apps, and everything was fresh and delicious. Hosts graciously accommodated a table change, and service was kind and efficient. Only quibble was the bartender did not know how to make a gimlet. (Hint: it does not involve cranberry juice.)
Ambiance is good, food is ok, and everything else is bad about this place. It’s fine if they want to over price and even add a default 18% gratuity even for small tables. But then to be rude, try to over sell their “bottled water”, and poor service makes for a horrible experience. Worst thing you can do to yourself after having an amazing time in midtown new your is to go dine in this restaurant. Save yourself some misery and give this restaurant a hard pass.
One of the best fine dining Indian places I’ve had in New York. Quality of food and the taste is excellent. Would definitely recommend. The owner is so welcoming and comes to check on each and every table if everything is ok. Would totally come back again. The new chow mein which they’ve started serving was Soo good.
We reserved for a party of 14, we had a great time! We had kids and grandparents, they loved the food. The service was great! Nice ambiance. We wished the appetizers came a little bit sooner, we did have a big order though. Food was delicious. Would recommend for families.
One of the best Indian restaurants in the city. Last time I visited them though they were closed, not sure if they’re opened now. Make sure you call them first but definitely worth it.
It was a very lackluster dining experience. The food was meh and the service was slow. Ambiance was ok, but there are better options.
Small portions, quite pricey but tastes good
Food -5Ambience- 5Taste- 4Hospitality- 3The food tastes great.Just that there was a lot of waiting time if you need to ask for something else the staff isn’t available easily specially if you are seated towards the side windows none of the staff look towards you so that we can call them for anything needed, the Food was served poorly meaning for eg. the dal was kept on the table but the small bowl in which you are supposed to put it in to eat was not provided, the paratha is usually served with Achar and Raita anywhere in india, it’s a staple everywhere atleast the Achar, or pickle, we needed to call them separately to ask for it and calling them was a task on its on as they were not attentive towards the tables on far sides.Besides that the food was great.
The Ambiance and service were very good. I had the pleasure of having lunch with a long time customer of UTSAV. He shared his past experiences at the restaurant, the history and of the previous owners. It was a little challenging to find right off of the subway but nevertheless it was a pleasure and great food.
My partner and I went to this place for dinner. We ordered samosa, daal makhaani, garlic naan and rice and chicken starter. All the dishes were good except the chicken starter, my stomach got upset ( too much pepper or the chicken was not fresh). Their menu serves almost every Indian dish. They were out of Peshawari naan which was a setback since you get those at a few Indian restaurants. Overall a good dining place, reservation recommended.
We went at 10pm, totally tired and famished after a long walk in the Manhattan. Google search suggested Utsav and we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was packed. Amazing food and awesome service…our table waiter Robin, even after a long busy day served us with a pleasant smile and was very accommodating. My wife and i had a great and memorable dinner. Thank you Utsav 🙏🙏
Great ambience, good food. We ordered:Chicken and paneer chilli - amazing tasteButter chicken - simply too good, creamy and mildDal makhani - bad, tasted like tomato soupThey gave us 2 bottles of water each costing $6! Overall, overpriced but good Indian food.
Very delicious and can be incredibly quick and accommodating when needed - Ive enjoyed leisurely meals for a date, and also my friend and I were able to eat there in under half hour during evening rush when we had to get to a theater show in time! The staff is friendly and attentive and everything Ive tried Ive loved. Be alert that rice is ordered separately from most entrees. Also dont forget to order naan for dipping (garlic naan is my favorite).
This can be given a pass. Expensive, very bad service time and unreasonable wait time given the space that is available.Went there on a Saturday night and waited for 45 minutes to get a table. And then the order took 1 hour to arrive(hardly 2-3 itemsand it seemed like they had forgotten to prepare the order !! And the quantity of the food served was also very less (Hakka noodles, Cauliflower Manchurian). 18% gratuity is a joke for this kind of service. Avoid this place and there are much better options around!
This place was really hard to find. Really bad location. Inside was nice. Dining room was upstairs. The menu is very limited as my sister couldn’t order her fav Indian dishes. They add an 18% tip to the check AND ask for an additional tip. I agree with someone else who wrote I should be able to tip according to the service, food, etc.. The food was pricey but obviously very fresh and seasoned well. We didn’t have to wait long for our food either. Food was good but I wouldn’t come back as it is too pricey and the 18% tip??
We just had a drink at the nice little bar downstairs (we were the only ones there). We requested to have the music turned down but the bartender wouldnt comply.Didnt go upstairs for dinner so no comment there.
Biryani is good, but rest we ordered was pathetic. The quantity is extremely low for the price! You pay like $22-25 for Biryani and you still don’t get enough to fill your stomach. Customer service is extremely bad as well, always felt like they are in hurry. Last but not the least, they charge mandatory 18% gratuity for a table with even 1 person, I guess they could just bump up the prices instead. Your tip should be based on your service, not a mandatory thing. Perhaps that was one reason why the customer service was that bad.
Good place and delicious Indian food, especially the briani and masalaThe stuff is okay and the price also
Good north indian food with good service. Dal makhani was specifically good. The indo Chinese food is really good. Only place that matches the indo-chinese flavor.
We went here for an early dinner. Was surprised to find the table. The restaurant is upstairs and have plenty of space and good ambiance. The waiter was kind enough to brew me a hot tea without milk to add my bourbon in it. The food is decent and reasonably priced. I liked the moong dal halwa but everything else was alright
Had a wonderful time at this restaurant! Lovely flavors and decent atmosphere. Our server was very friendly and helpful.I wish they had more options for dessert but the gajjar ka halwa was incredible!Highly reccomend the paneer bhurji, hakka noodles, and chilli chicken.
