Historical ancient town of Georgia near gori. It is mountain cave, with lot of history. Some caves still have decorations on them. You will get a nice view at the top of the hill. It also has a wine tasting shop where you can buy wine. It usually takes 2-3 hours to explore this place. Then there is a museum where they show a short film about the history of Uplistsikhe. There is no restaurant, coffee shop or souvenir shop inside they were closed. But they are shops outside where you can eat and can have fresh juice. Entry fees to this place is 15 and 20 GEL. If you really want to know the historical value, go with 20 GEL and go with a Guide. Awesome experience.

Ended up choosing this ancient town hewn out of the rock due to its more practical geographical location on a day trip from Tbilisi, and we were worried we would be disappointed after looking at all the photos of Varzia (which we didnt end up seeing so cannot comparebut this place was amazing its own right. Definitely worth a look!

This is a perfect half day trip from Tbilisi. It’s fun for kids and adults. We’ve spotted many cute geckos all over the grounds. Our favorite hall is the one with Blackberries. I recommend reading about this place in advance and take hat/jacket depending on the weather. It’s usually windy and sunny.

Nice area.Worth stopping by if you are in the area instead of a similar attraction near the Turkish border.Ticket cost 15 gel. Or 20 gel with wine tasting at the end of the rout in a small nice winery. Go for the 20.

Ancien city full of history. Its a real pleasure to climb and explore caves. You can also visit the museum that explains the history and expose some archeological objects, and taste some local wines at the top of the site.Definitively a great place to visit if you visit Georgia.

History meets present.Uplistikhe is an amazing place, and it shows so very much how capable humans have always been, how talented and inventive too.Uplistikhe is now a museum that provides with plenty interesting information about its history, life back in the days and archaeological findings. There is also an option for wine cellars tour where you get complimentary wine and food tasting. You can easily buy tickets at the entry and at the time of our visit, there was free parking. The areas for improvement that I would suggest and would, in my opinion, improve the experience:* updating the video in the museum (which is from 2013 and Im sure more things have been found).* more information about each stop in a written form (there are stops and it basically says that you can listen about it. We didnt get any audio devices, so getting a pdf with more information would be so so much appreciated. Id love to know the differences between the yellow and red hall and how they think they looked like based on the reconstruction and items found there).* marked paths. You can now walk basically almost everywhere, which means you can easily skip things, step where you shouldnt, but most importantly, it could be destroying the rocks. Clear path markings (like they already exist at the endwould definitely help preserve this beautiful historical legacy.

An interesting site with the ruins of an ancient town. There is some light "climbing" involved, so wear good shoes. It was windy on top, but it was over 35 degrees warm when we visited, and therefore we didnt stay for very long. Basic fee 15 Lari, 20 with wine tasting. Audio tour guide available, and you can also book a private tour with a guide.

The place has an entrance fee of 15 GEL and 20 GEL based on which package you choose. If you wanna explore alone, go for 15 GEL and if you want a virtual tour guide with you then go for 20 GEL.The journey starts with the museum visit with a short video on the history of Uplistsikhe. If you visit on winter its fine, but if its summer, please mind the sun 🌞

Ancient architecture that is still being discovered today, and an interesting history of this town/fortress made in the caves. Also, added bonus of a wine tasting opportunity, and really nice wine here as well.

Very interesting ruins. It’s possible to explore a lot by foot and the location is kept well in shape. Can be very hot to walk around there in the summer though, so don’t forget to bring water.

An archaeological site stretching over a vast area which is quite far from Tbilisi-rental car will help you reach this spot easily. You have to walk and climb a lot so prepare your quads for that 😂 Also, its quite windy up there (in Julyso be very careful because you wont find railing or any support to grab onto while climbing. However, there are stairs with handrails if you’re feeling less adventurous 😄

Very exciting place. Ancient caves and pretty view. Can be considered as a light trekking. On the top of the hill theres a deserted church. If you travel with a little baby, dont bring a stroller here, its not possible to go up with it

The staff with the wine tour company at the caves is not very friendly. We were traveling with a toddler who found out her voice echoing in the caves very interesting. However, one of the staff took it upon himself to discipline our 1 and a half year old which upset our toddler and we had to quit the tour.

A huge park with good hiking opportunities suitable for beginners and people of all fitness levels. Theres a museum in the beginning and then a park with a lake, a church up the mountain and the main attraction the cave city. All the way to the top theres the oldest wine making cellar in Georgia, very nice history lesson and different types of wine to taste (if that rocks your boatVery friendly staff who speak perfect English! Definitely a worthy trip with beautiful sights.

The parking area was really wide and it can fit a reasonable amount of cars. The entrance tickets are really affordable, and everything inside was clean (including the toilets). There was a wide park before entrancing to the cave town. The dog was really nice too, it was following my daughter all throughout the trip! As we get in the cave town, there are metal stairs with railings so that visitors can walk easily but afterwards come the steep rock paths therefore its hard for older people to climb up to. Everything was worth it though, its historical elements and significance had me in awe! The views were amazing too! I highly recommend going here with family, friends, or even by yourself to appreciate the history and beauty of Georgia 😊

It was a great experience to know the history and culture of ancient Georgia how they live and how the protected themselves in this fortresses. Just a reminder, of you are afraid of heights, you can always turn around. But if you really want to explore the caves, you have to go all the way up, they have signs to guide you to the the exit on the opposite side of the fortress. Its great to explore every corner of it, helps you to build your appreciation with ancient history of Georgians who live in caves.

This place is truly amazing with history dating from before the rest of Georgia. The are is beautiful and it’s amazing to take a nice walk here and explore the ruins. Do take a guide though, it’s great value and your guide can tell you a lot of things you don’t get from the introduction video and you’ll learn a lot from the ruins that you wouldn’t find out yourself if you just walk around. The winery is also nice. It’s a little touristy and gimmicky, but the wines are really good, we bought 2 bottles ourselves!

Really incredible scenes and experience. Highly recommend getting an audio tour to get all of the details. The handheld audio tour has just about all of the answers to questions I had about the place and is fairly extensive.Having a human tour guide seems like a bit more of an expedited tour.Sort of amazing how untouched and raw it is. Its even pretty difficult to walk certain sections.

A fascinating piece of history. Its a fun and unique experience to climb up the cave filled mountain and appreciate how people use to live and how much effort they put into building and designing their homes. It can get very cold and windy up there. Enjoy the opportunity and have a great time.

Interesting spot. Worth coming if you are going to or coming from Kutaisi. Not worth the trip from Tbilisi just to watch it. The prices are in line with other national treasures, but we found it impossible to get the English audio guide (only available in Russian and Georgian).
