Unknown Chapter Coffee Roasters - Cafe in Christchurch, New Zealand
Absolutely love Unknown Chapter. Have been here almost every time I have visited Christchurch and I have never been disappointed. Awesome coffee, great cabinet food, and a menu that will have something for everyone. Highly recommend and will be back again when I am next in Christchurch!
Busy busy, went brekkie and coffee, service very efficient, coffee great, ordered granola,l fruit ,honey, yoghurt, best ive had🙂
Absolutely the best breakfast I have had in a long time. Arrived and seated by the window bar but when a more suitable table became available not long after we were asked if we would like to move there.Service was quick and everything was cooked perfectly. The wait staff were busy but attentive, and it was clean so clean…..
Went too breakfast at this place on Saturday. It sure was really nice. Had the big breakfast, not so much as big but still really tasty. Kāwhe and smoothie went down quickly. Would recommend this place.
Great brunch. Perfect coffee. Friendly staff. Definitely recommend you try it out.
Great service, awesome food.Came at peak time on a Sunday, got seated and served immediately by really nice staff that were super onto it.Food came so fast and was delicious and a really satisfying amount. The cold brew coffee was so yum as well. Will definitely return and recommend
Brunch is better than coffee. Flat white&ice latte were not so good at that moment.
Really pretty interior but food wasn’t great. The sausage roll tasted like plastic and there was a hair in the cake we ordered. Kitchen closed before we arrived, we tried checking when it closes before arriving, but there was no info on their website or a phone number to call. :(
I was actually on my way to another cafe when I spotted it and quickly pulled over. It looked busy and we were lucky to only have to wait a short time before sharing the ends of a table with a couple.Theres a busy yet cool vibe about the place and when you saw the food coming out you were quickly trying to identify what it was on the menu. We ordered 2 x Eggs Benny, French Toast, 1 milkshake and 2 smoothies. I didnt expect anything to come out for at least 20 minutes and was pleasantly surprised when 10 minutes later our picture perfect food came out. I should have taken photos!Food was delicious!! But, when I ordered there was a cabinet of slices.... it got me and I had to line back up and spent another $30 worth of slices and left it at my brothers house! : )I will definitely go back for another visit and tick off a few items on the menu.
Seated fast. Was extremely busy. Sat for a while wasnt sure if we were meant to go up and order at the counter. So asked waitress and she took order. Quite a bit of time passed and I flagged waitress down. They had forgotten about order but offered free drinks while we waited. Then the food came very fast. Sausage was yum. Coffee brilliant. Love the plants. Cant imagine how they cope been that busy. Waitress staff were very good.
This is going to be a random comment, but Unknown Chapter Coffee sources the best sausage from the butchery. My friends and I were so impressed by the freshness and the unique taste of the sausages that we ordered 2 more! The staff also recommended to us the butchery supplying this sausage. Unfortunately, we did not have time to head there.I managed to speak with the barista, who recommended their House Espresso and Columbia beans. Ive been back in Singapore and Im impressed by the amount and color of the crema produced from every single shot of coffee. The beans complement well with both cows and oat milk. I regret not buying more, but we arent supposed to extract espresso from stale beans too. Ive recommend a friend to head to Unknown Chapter Coffee for breakfast (and to help me get beans, of course).Best breakfast experience Ive had in South Island!
Great coffee and awesome brownie cheesecake slice!
ts the best coffee Ive ever tasted. Not enough variety of coffee. The cafe was busy and had to order at the counter, but the food and coffee were delivered quickly. The staff are friendly.
It was a very good experience. Nice vibe.French toast was unique but good, personally recommend to fellows. The smoke salmon was fab!! Just $3 when adding on. However, the Benedict was a bit disappointed as the sauce was not as expected and the toast are quite thick, just personally not a fan as it’s a-bit difficult to bite 😓The portion was just nice. Not too much, not too little. In terms of noise, it was acceptable, can feel the busyness here.Overall, good to be here. I shall return.
Salmon and chickpea filo was tasty and filling. However I wasnt overly impressed with my iced coffee. It was brought to me fairly quickly after ordering it, it felt too rushed with no effort. It was too watery with the amount of ice added, and there was just a little scoop of ice cream. It wasnt creamy and tasty like an iced coffee should be. Usually for an iced coffee id expect ice cream plus whipped cream on the top. I found this cafe far too noisy and probably wouldnt rush to come back.
Amazing, friendly, funky, wonderfull food and coffee and great prices! A definite must do in the city!
We came here as a group after hearing so much about Unknown Chapter. The food was really good and definitely lived up to the hype. Great atmosphere and great service. The food came out really quickly given that they were extremely busy
Beautiful breakfast, lovely flavours. I found the menu very workable which is usually a challenge for me. The portions were generous which absolutely justified its price. I selected it based on previous reviews which did not disappoint. When I arrived, I was extremely impressed by the massive quality range in the bakery case, as usually I find very limited at most places, it is suited to many tastes. This place caters to the many and does not compromise on quality. It was busy on Monday morning and I know why!
Stumbled across this cafe by chance and it was just perfect! Delicious food and super friendly staff. Amazing indoor plants AND the coffee is sensational....like quite possibly the best coffee ever!!
My cousins introduced this place to me. I love the high quality of their tea and sourdough. I loved the flavour and strength of the English breakfast so much that I investigated and found it was from noble and savage.I tried the eggs benedict and the eggs on toast so far. Excellent flavours, and they serve real butter with the bread.
Was very busy but food came out quick, was delicious and great coffee.
This cafe is amazing place in Christchurch. Very healthy and delicious foods and nice brewed coffee ever in Christchurch! Also there are very friendly staffs working in the cafe. I will definitely come back soon to have a cup of coffee and foods! Finally I found the best spot in CHCH! 😊
Best breakfast, great vibe and setting, even better service. Food was superb, even catered for the young ones (see photos), the service was top notch. Cherry on top was the coffee. Very very good 🤘
First time visiting today and it was superb! Busy Saturday morning but was served quickly. I didnt order from the menu but got the corn fritters from the cabinet and they were yum! All the meals being served around me looked delicious. Will definitely be back! Super cool place. Noisy but thats a small price to pay.
It was a busy day today as the hangovers crammed into soak up any leftover alcohol from last night but despite that service was great! Dad had the typical big brekky and I went outside my comfort zone and invested in el quesadilla and I was NOT disappointed seriously yous have to break out of the eggs Benny and try this spicy chorizo, crispy bacon smashed avo pineapple chutney scrammbled egg mash up its a winner!Service was on teeCoffee was greatMet expectations and exceededAlso would be great for a large group meal etcPrices were normal but meals were good! So value for moolaThanks guys appreciate the team play:)
We are new to Chirstchurch after being away for a long time. Unknown chapter is our absolute fave and we love cafes we love coffee and we just LOVE every-time we come here. The ambience is 100% the staff amazing and food and coffee so good. HIGHLY recommend.
The French toast with Bacon was phenomenal! And the presentation was really excellent too. It was so good I had to give my compliments to the kitchen before I left 👍👍👍
The food is something else! So flavoursome. We got a caramel slice and cheese cake with two milkshakes and a coffee. Super spacious. Relaxing feeling sitting in here. Staff were lovely and patient even when busy. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be back.
On a Sunday afternoon, walking down St Asaph Street, I went into this lovely quaint cafe. The Staff were friendly and accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious and enjoyable.Couldnt wish for any better!!
Quite happy with the food and services. On a busy Sunday morning we thought we will have to wait for long time for our coffees or food, but coffees arrived almost instantly not long after order. Food was good. Was a bit disappointed with being persistently harassed by a homeless guy asking for coins because we were sitting outside. Staff did come to ask him to leave as he was being aggressive, but it wasnt successful. Our family got verbally abused by that guy just because we said we had no cash. Wasnt a pleasant experience and got a bit hectic at one stage 😣
Really lovely coffee and services, the kitchen closed while we arrive shortly after 3pm, but ordered corn fritter (large serve if 3 piecesand Birdseed nuts bar, one of the best we had not sweet just purely nut
I could have had a bad day here, but the coffee just okay compared to some of the other great coffee spots I’ve been to in Christchurch. But the cafe itself is very nice and relaxing to sit at an enjoy some breakfast. Food is good too, I wouldn’t rave about it but it’s the standard you would get from good cafes.Parking can be a bit difficult if it gets too busy but we got there early and found a spot 20 meters up the road.
Very nice brunch menuThe egg benedict was awesome and the sourdough tasted like heavenThe french toast was also perfect. The toast was not suggy at all unlike many other places. Highly recommended
Busy cafe, good atmosphere, food is good. Very recommended. I ordered scones and they give lots of butter on side which i really like because most of cafe only give little butter. Hot chocolate is not very sweet, which is just right. Will come back again
Went for breakfast thinking porridge would have been a small but filling meal. Boy was I mistaken, filling yes but small... this was a big bowl of delicious porridge, with quinoa and berry topping. I didn’t get to finish as I was on a food tour through the city but next time I need something to last me the whole day I’ll definitely get the porridge again 😄
Great bread and those sausage are amazing.Give a four star just because of the seat are bit too close to each other. But the food and coffee are great.
The best cafe in Chch to me. Went for brunch couple of times. Presentation is beautiful, taste is great and a dish is quite big for one person. Can’t wait go back again :)
Went for breakfast and we have a great time. Great service, they have vegetarian and vegan options! I ordered the porridge and as the reviews were saying, it is amazing, super yummy great texture and flavour, not super sweet, super enjoyable. My partner ordered benedict with mushrooms and wasnt so happy though... It wasnt tasty and mushrooms quite watery. We thought the coffee could be a lot better.
Very nicely decorated with the fresh a hanging plants. Great atmosphere and the staff is amazing, friendly with an excellent customer service.Food is really tasty and the portions are big sized so definitely you’ll not leave there hungry. Will be great to have some water bowls for the dogs when you are sitting outside.
Excellent cafe! I had the most delicious peppermint bark, perfect flavor and texture. The coffee was the stand out though. I got a flat white, and while it was a small mug, the flavor was incredible. Amazingly strong and well-balanced, you could definitely tell the difference of going to a roasters!
one of the best place to have breakfast in town. Classic combination ( free range of egg, bacon, avocado, spinach is good choice. Banana cake is also tasty.
Delicious breakfast! We had French toast, eggs benedict with salmon, peanut and raspberry smoothie, Espresso and a tea. All fantastic, presented beautifully and staff kind and friendly. Will definitely be back!
Delicious breakfasts and coffee. Came here after reading the great reviews and so glad we did. Really fresh, tasty ingredients. Would highly recommend.
I stayed downtown Christchurch for several nights in May 2019 and this place was my go-to breakfast spot. The case selections are tempting and generally very good. The menu items, though, are delicious across the board. Both sweet and savory offerings are delivered with obvious attention to detail. The coffee was also top-shelf, so be sure to order something unusual! This place is a winner, so dont pass it by.
Was recomended this cafe by another restaurant owner as being one of the best cafes in town. We were wowed by the quality and quantity of food! Everything and I really mean everything they served was super delicious!!!
ProsGood portion sizes and a nice range on the menu. I had the shredded beef Flatbread. Which was good, but difficult to finish. Others had french toast, salmon Benne, and avocado bruschetta. Service was good and they warned about the wait before paying.ConsCoffee was okay. Some loved it but I prefer other places. Ambience is okay. Again, many love it, but I felt it was just okayWill visit again for the food.
We went there for breakfast on a Saturday morning and we really enjoyed it. The food is good, service is great and the coffee is strong. I had scrambled eggs on a toast and french toast - both were really good.
Located right opposit the little high, advantages of customers using their paid carpark and walk across the street. Very bright and warm cafe nicely decorated with great food both from cabinet and menu and coffee hot or iced. Mixed salad for variety taste is fab. Loved their forest mushroom from the menu too. Quick and easy ordering and serving, attentive friendly staff. Will def go back.
Got dragged here for brunch and regret nothing, got myself a traditional breakfast and an iced mocha. The breakfast was a perfect example of mixed breakfast, everything was flawless from the egg to the bacon to the mushrooms.Icea mocha was amazing, was obviously made with real coffee which made it truly great and the coffee ice cube was an excellent touch.Would 100% return here, next time It would be by choice too. :)
Went here for the first time last Sunday and enjoyed my brunch so much, i visited again today. Hands down the BEST eggs benedict in Christchurch. Even better if ordered with a side of avocado smash. Everything was seasoned perfectly right down to the spinach (which i usually find bland and watery in other places). The hollandaise was light and lemony, the eggs poached perfectly and the bacon nice and crispy. The coffee tasted great also. Good selection of breakfast on the menu and yummy looking pastries in the cabinet. Serves right up to 3pm which is great if you are having a lazy day! The restaurant is nice and airy with lots of greenery. There is an outside seating area at the front and back if its warm out. The staff are very attentive and friendly. This is definately my new regular brunch stop!
