This classic hotel at the University of Virginia's Darden Business School is 4.8 miles from Downtown and 23 miles from Shenandoah National Park. The traditional rooms feature free Wi-Fi, iPod docks and cable TV, as well as coffeemakers, microwaves, and minifridges stocked with complimentary bottled water.Free perks include access to the Darden fitness center across the street, and breakfast served in a Jeffersonian-style atrium, which is available for events. There are also 6 private dining rooms, plus meeting space. The hotel also has an on-site bookstore, and a pub serving light snacks.
Elegant and historic but make sure you are ready for smaller rooms. If historic houses are your thing, you should be quite a home. The common areas are updated and beautiful and the staff is attentive and warm.
SuperFun Attractions come to UVA for dozens of memorable events each year since 2004!Healthy activity leads to Action packed adventures and Darden has been a SuperFun Event Partner for decades!
I honestly dont know why this place has as many stars as it does. Im here every other weekend for a program at the school and every time has been a headache. Some of the rooms have extremely loud air conditioner units that will rattle or cycle on and off loudly making it hard to sleep. Then the rooms with dehumidifiers are still like a swamp. Then the room keys are a coin flip of whether they work or not. The front desk will make up excuses of why your room doesnt include breakfast even though their website clearly states that all patrons get breakfast Finally, and probably the kicker is they have someone my room and the poor lady was trying to get in but remember how I said the keys only work 50% of the time? Well lucky for me it didnt work.
Very nice stay. It’s right on campus. Be prepared to walk. It’s a nice walk, though. Beautiful architecture and history all around. Highly recommend staying if you are doing anything campus related because it is so close to almost all the facilities. It’s an old Inn, so you could hear noise out in the hallway, but it wasn’t racket. Breakfast bar was great. Tons to choose from. You do have to walk, but it’s worth it.
Nothing too fancy but quaint. Basic breakfast with many options. Halls were quiet and staff was helpful.
Beautiful grounds and architecture, on campus facility, with free parking in the garage. Very clean rooms, comfy beds, great staff. Excellent breakfast buffet. Location is short ride to Charlottesville Amtrak Station and restaurants. Handy for driving to local attractions. Will definitely book again.
Visited for two days for my sons graduation over at JAG school. Very convenient, quiet and quaint. It is not a new high rise hotel but our room was spotless. The staff was amazing at check-in (3 minutesand they even had a few bath items we forgot. I was thoroughly impressed by the staff and the beautiful quaint nature of the college. Coffee maker, micro, large flatscreen, WIFi!! Hats off to the cleaning staff!!!
We were very disappointed in this Inn. We stayed two nights with my parents, both are handicapped and have difficulty walking distances. The handicapped rooms are at the far end of the hallway, quite a long distance from the handicapped parking. Not a great plan. Additionally, the breakfast is in an entirely different building on the Inn "campus". You must maneuver down a road, through a courtyard through a building and up an elevator to find the complementary breakfast. My parents were exhausted, to say the least, once we arrived to eat.On the night before check out we inquired about a late checkout to better assist my parents. We were told noon but to call the next morning to see if they could extend further. We called and were told we had to be out by 11:15. This left us sitting in the lobby with my parents for 2 hours waiting for their ride. The front desk was aware of this situation but "kindly" refused to help. The rooms were dated, circa 1990. No black out shades, tile coming off the wall in the bathroom, corroded and permanently discolored bath fixtures. Also no access to ACC network to watch the UVA football game. The breakfast, once you walked the brisk stroll to get there, was delicious.Think twice before reserving a stay.
I stayed here for a week to attend a course at Darden. The room made me sick. It was damp and moldy. There was a standalone dehumidifier in my room. When I inquired at checkin about the dehumidifier and the presence of mold in my room (I am allergic to mold), I was told they just have them and people like the extra white noise for sleeping. I woke up every day unable to breath and with a headache. I later learned that many of my colleagues also had dehumidifiers in their rooms. There are limited amenities. You must pay $7 to use the gym facility across the street. There is no business center available. Front desk staff advised to use one of the conference rooms but could not tell me which room had a printer available where I could print a document. This Inn needs significant management attention to facilities and the amenities.
Last time we stayed here we had a lovely updated room. This time we had a room in the section of the inn which was dated. The room was in need of some renovations. And it was not very clean. In fact the bath mat in the bathroom had a blood stain on it!!! (Very gross!)However, we did have a lovely breakfast which was included in our room rate. That was definitely the highlight of our stay.Thatwas the Google
Dated, loud, and bereft of value. The building is a maze. The parking is inconvenient. The noise from the road outside the room will keep you awake. The Marriott nearby or hotels along 29 provide more value and more contemporary accommodations. I would not recommend this hotel when there are far better options nearby.
Stayed here while I was in town for a wedding. The arrangement of the hotel is somewhat odd with a main "lobby building" that you have to walk to in order to check in, and the rest of the hotel is made up of a bunch of separate buildings next to the lobby that actually house the hotel rooms. Other than the odd arrangement, the service was courteous and the rooms were clean. Parking was relatively easy if you head to the garage down the street, and the location is ideal if youre doing things around Charlottesville/UVA.
For such a great meeting location, I was surprised with the lack of signage. We were not part of a training group, just a day conference, and it was difficult to find the proper meeting rooms.
The University of Virginia Inn at Darden is a great place stay on the UVA campus near the basketball center. The rooms are great for the cost and you surely cant beat the convenience of staying on campus.
We booked this hotel through hotwire, and the description and star level did not match what we experienced at the UVa Inn at Darden. The interior of the buildings have shabby, worn-thin carpetings very reminiscent of an old dorm, and we found the walls to be so thin that the sound of the toilet flushing in the next room over would wake us with a start. Bring earplugs. All the rooms have one bed option, one queen bed. Thiswas acceptible but not what we typically experience in a three star hotel which would also offer other bedding accommodations. The thermostat in our room was the old kind that you adjust the temperature with a lever, but with no temperature markings so that you are blindly guessing as to how hot or cold the room will get an hour later. The hotel was stated to have a pub with a happy hour from 5 to 7, but the staff did not mention at check in that the offerings would be sparse on a weeknight - so we wandered over there hoping to get an early meal and found one lonely bartender offering a hot pan of potstickers as the happy hour appetizers, and that was it. We passed and drove off campus to find an actual pub. That brings me to the location - the Inn is adjacent to the Darden Business school, which must be very convenient for anyone who has an event at the business or law schools but is an odd an inconvenient location for anyone else. Theres nowhere to eat nearby unless you drive, the parking situation was a bit confusing (although the woman at checkin was very friendly and told us exactly where to park and which entrance to use, otherwise we would have been wandering aimlessly in the rain). One positive is that the bathroom was nice and appears to have been recently renovated. The soaps were nice, though the door is very heavy and is hard to close and noisy when you succeed in closing or opening it.On the whole, we would not recommend this location to anyone who did not have a specific reason for being on or near UVas campus. The location is the main benefit for those who need to sleep nearby, and since we didnt need to be at the business school we would have passed had we realized what we were getting into. On the whole, we would have been satisfied with our stay had the price been lower because that would have let us know what we were in for, but for the price paid was consistent with a 3 star hotel so thats what we expected but didnt get.
Tricked into booking this from Priceline. They claimed a 3-Star property which are usually comparable to Hampton Inns and such. This is more like a Motel-6. Looks OK from the outside but it is like a dorm on a campus. Inconvenient parking, horrible mattress, portable air conditioner and dehumidifier in room as just ridiculous. VERY dated. Felt like I was staying in a cheap motel and not a 3-star hotel. Very disappointed. No wonder there are deals here: otherwise nobody would ever come.
A little outdated but clean, small rooms. Front desk staff is friendly but not very accommodating.
Awesome place, awesome rooms and great service! I have already been recommending this hotel to my friends 😉Btw never saw an air conditioning located near the head of the bed like some other reviewer claims (at least not in my room).
Not what I expected based off of the current reviews. The air conditioner, located right next to the head of the bed, was very loud. There was also a dehumidifier running all night that added to the noise. I would have turned them both off but didn’t want to sleep in a hot and humid room. I wish I could stop there but there were yellow stains on the white bedspread, which was my first impression of the room. You don’t feel clean or want to sleep in a hotel room bed after seeing that. To top it all off the coffee maker is located next to the toilet in the bathroom. That can’t be sanitary. Very dissaponted.
The best kept secret gem of Charlottesville. We have stayed at this little inn many times when visiting Charlottesville. The staff are always wonderful, going above and beyond in service; the hotel is always clean and well-stocked with amenities; the location is so convenient; and the grounds are gorgeous. For the value, this is our go-to spot when stopping over and I always recommend this spot.
I was visiting family at the UVA hospital and needed a room quickly. I google searched and found a great rate with this location. It was raining that night, and I drove right past the office to check in. The first building on the right is the gate house and that is where you check in.The gentleman who checked me in was extremely nice. He was very helpful in showing me where to park and the location of my room. The building was super quiet. The room was extremely clean and on point. It smelled clean (no heavy perfume aerosol and the carpet had vacuum lines to show it had been done. The bed was perfect! The linens were clean and soft. No signs of any infestation. The bathroom was spotless. The towels were upper-mid grade.Check out staff was just as courteous and friendly. I can’t say enough great things about my experience!
The staff are super nice and friendly! but the the hotel should not be advertised as 3 stars hotel. its similar to Motel 6 and older quality inn.
I called the front desk to ask if we were in a dorm or a hotel. From the time we got back to our room, in the early evening, we heard nothing but yells, screams, cries, revelers! Im sure I was not the only one to call and ask. The sound coming from the hall and the room above and adjacent was as if the walls were made of paper. Im sure by the age of the hotel , the building material is comparable . Its beautiful, but not a place I want to have spent almost $200 to have stayed the night. :-(
Beautiful clean room. Very well priced. Great, friendly service. Super breakfast with many healthy (and not so healthy choices).Convenient, family friendly UVA on campus location. Free parking. It was spectacular on Easter with the pink trees and yellow and purple flowers on immaculate landscaped grounds.Only negative is that distances to parling and food may be difficult for those with mobility limitations. We would certainly stay here again.
Great place to stay on campus , walking distance to local restaurant, good accommodation, only issue is all the rooms only have one queen bed , but a nice quaint place to stay , amazing campus and architecture
On our recent trip here we had a nightmare with a rude manager. We woke up just before midnight to a running toilet only to find the toilet pipe held together with a hair clip. We tried to turn the water off and it began to leak on the floor. When we called the front desk we were told we needed to change rooms. The manager, Karen, asked us what do we expect and offered a 15% discount before she hung up on us. The second bedroom also had a running toilet that kept us up for a while. The front desk staff was very nice, but Karen’s tone caused us to request a conversation with the General Manager. He did call us back but only said that he thinks he needs to train his staff further. While it’s a great location and a fun experience staying on Grounds, the customer service is worth checking other options
Great place to stay if you enjoy playing Find my card as they will not return it to you. Room is small and not much more than a glorified dorm with a slight chance of losing a debit or credit card because they will give it to pretty much anyone.
If you want to stay in a dorm, this place is for you. None of the pictures look like this place. No where on site for dinner. Game room is a joke. And good luck parking ami ng the students. Again, of you like dorm life, this place is for you. I highly recommend staying elsewhere.
The Inn at Darden is a beautiful, clean, and safe hotel to stay at. Also, the breakfast was amazing! It was no continental breakfast loaded with cheap carbs and sugar; no, the breakfast consisted of healthy and hearty options. I cant believe rooms are as affordable as they are! I participated in a week long training program at the law school. Part of my package deal included room and board and means at the Inn at Darden. I could not be happier with my experience! The staff was extremely attentive and bed was very comfortable! The decor was somewhat colonial style. It was abundantly clear that the hotel cared about its guests and their comfort. I would definitely return to the hotel!
Second time in last 5 weeks that we have stayed here. Very clean and well maintained. On the beautiful UVA campus. Excellent customer service. Very comfortable beds (queen is the only size available). Quiet location.
We stayed here 10/12/17 while on a bicycle trip and it was an excellent place to stay with friendly, helpful staff. The room was a nice size with very comfortable beds and fluffy towels (great for drying bike clothes we washed in the sink). The room was very neat and clean and the only minor drawback was a strong shower spray which was a bit uncomfortable. The included buffet breakfast just down the driveway was outstanding with great variety and excellent quality.
Recent business trip there was excellent, the staff, conference center and catering.. We held a continuing education course here in Aug 2017. The meeting room was really good, with the speaker down in the center, and half circle of tables elevated. Sound technician got our sound and mics working fine. The catering manager. Perry Quarles made extra efforts to see the breakfast, two breaks, and lunch at the restaurant were just right.
Staff was great and accommodating, external grounds were beautiful, but the interior was dated in much need of replaced furniture. Rooms were spacious and clean.
Great room woth a comfy bed. Only drawback is that the AC unit is a little old and weak, so much so that they put a dehumidifier in the unit. But it gets the job done and makes the room comfortable so still a solid 4 stars
The Inn at Darden is neat, tidy, and comfortable. The exterior architecture is lovely; the interior is more generic. I stayed here for student orientation and was happy to be away from the busiest area adjacent to Grounds, yet still close enough to be very convenient. The front desk staff were efficient. My room was on the end of the building, close to the Pub (just beverages, no food according to the literature). There was a rather loud gathering of other guests during the evening, so Id recommend either joining in the merriment or requesting a room on the opposite end of the structure. The Inn utilizes the Darden School parking deck, which is a little bit of a walk from the registration office. On a warm summer evening, this was fine; in the rain, it might be a minor inconvenience. The Inn at Darden is not a luxury destination, but provided a clean, comfortable, convenient accommodation for the evening.
Had a wonderful stay! The staff was so polite and professional! I would highly recommend staying here. Its location is so convenient the the service is exceptional.
I really love this hotel. The staff was very friendly and the rooms are big and clean. Will definitely stay here again.
A small but comfortable hotel on the UVA campus. Youre within driving distance of downtown, John Paul Jones arena and the roads to Monticello, Highland or the wineries. The rooms are comfortably furnished and we had a good two-night stay there with no problems. They dont serve breakfast but we made use of the mini fridge for our snacks and breakfasts just as well. Id stay again if I was in Charlottesville.
Helpful staff, quiet, gracious environment in a scenic part of Virginia. The campus is beautiful and filled with history. Barracks shopping a half mile away.
Stayed one night here because we went to a concert at the nearby John Paul Jones Arena. Best decision ever! The venue was within easy walking distance, along well-lit streets in the college area. The room was spotless and comfortable. The directions to the parking garage through the building were confusing the first time, but the second time was easy. The bed was very comfortable, with great pillows, and 4 of them! In the morning I enjoyed the little pod coffeemaker. The shower head is a massaging model, and despite my best efforts I could not get it set to anything but "full assault", which was fine for my back but not so much the face. Aside from that, it was a perfect night. The courtyard is a lovely place to enjoy a drink and some fresh air. Its pricey, but thats the area. It was worth it to not have to worry about driving and parking for the show.
Simple in the best way. Had everything I needed. (Working Iron!Bottled water comfortable bed. All of this right on campus which is a great location. Food and shopping near by. Great price.
Convenient location, especially if you have business at Darden. Clean rooms and friendly helpful staff. Limited food options late at night but cville has many places you should explore.
Great for a few drinks if youre connected to Darden in any way. If not, go somewhere else
This is the second time staying at Darden. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. Very pleasant stay!
This Inn is fantastic. On the graduate school campus and the pub is open until 1130
When you say check-in is at 3pm and you show up at 3:45 and nothing is ready thats not a good first impression.
Very convenient for those visiting Darden. Rooms are nothing special, but meet price expectations. If you arrive late or eat late, be prepared to order delivery or get in the car for food as you are somewhat isolated. Very helpful service at the front desk, answered all of my questions.
I booked a room at the Inn at Darden directly on their website for this Saturday night, a very busy night in Charlottesville with a home basketball game verses UNC Tar Heels. I just received a call (2 days before check-inthat they had some issue with their internet provider and have over sold the property. I am out a room and they cannot honor the reservation.Mistakes happen in this virtual world, but what really really irritates me is that when I asked considering this was not my mistake or a hotel reservation website mistake but their own and it being such a busy weekend, have they made calls around Charlottesville on vacancy options to provide options for those who are in this position. The woman answered "no that is really not our job".Obviously, the Service Manager or the Main Manager needs to take some business classes next door at Darden. One would expect more from an entity associated with The University and obviously, it is not very service oriented.
Enjoyed my stay. The Inn was convenient to the location where my conference was being held on campus. The hotel/room was very clean and quaint. The food in the cafeteria was FABULOUS!! Id highly recommend this hotel/inn.
The rooms were nice, and the catered tailgate was great. Breakfast was oddly short and we missed it. Being close to campus makes for a convenient place to stay!
