University Lanes - Bowling Alley in Denton, United States
Great place to bowl! Friendly and helpful staff that can assist you with any questions you might have. Perfect atmosphere for group event or party.
terrible experience. we switched back and forth for 3 turns bowling just to be able to ask for a bottle of beer. there were no other customers at the bar. once we finally got acknowledged, she walked around in circles 3 or 4 times then proceeded to answer a FaceTime call behind the bar and talk on the phone. We finally got our 1 corona bottle after a good 15 or 20 min of waiting. As a bartender of 10 years, I would never give the awful service she did. Front desk guys were playing around the entire time and said they weren’t able to give me an itemized receipt after having to pay for the bar tab and bowling at the front desk. don’t plan to come back here. I’ll stick to bowlero in Denton.
This place just rocks, the service here is a1 and the food is just spot on!!! Sandie is always there to help and the pool is the best in Denton!! 10/10 would recommend to any of my friends
I love this place, I come here religiously. The low prices brought me here but I come back again and again because of how much great the staff is. Make sure if you come you go to the bar and say hi to sandy. As long as she’s here I’ll come every week because she is part of what makes university lanes a special place! 10/10 such a fun place, if you haven’t been you’re missing out. Please support my family at university
We used to come out every weekend for night bowling but the last few weeks have been terrible. They shut down half the alley and kept trying to get us to leave instead of waiting. Its a shame we used to have so much fun here on the weekends.
Always a great time with the family here!
Everyone here is very friendly. Always have a wonderful time.
Friendly staff. great service
I was literally just “turned away”.. I recently started working at a job right by the bowling alley. I have to take mandatory lunch breaks. I take around 3pm. So I just went in today, JUST to talk and ask if it’d be “ok” for me to start coming in on mon-fri and bowling for about an hour, between 3-4. That’s literally all I had today, was A QUESTION. Because I wanted to become a REGULAR/Daily-CUSTOMER. And I was turned away, at 4:45, by an oily/greasy dude, saying I couldn’t bowl OR be there, because they had “tournaments” that start at 6….
I like this place. Its a little older. Not fancy, but good bowling. 👍
We had a good time here. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The pricing was reasonable and the people playing around us were all super friendly. We will definitely return. Only issue, was the Ladies Room while clean had a bit of an odor. Other than that, totally recommend.
Nice bowling alley near Dentons colleges. Seemed to cater very well to the younger crowd. They have some good prices and every thing worked just like it should.
Place is awesome. Not crazy expensive, we always get fries and jalapeño poppers always freshly made and crispy. All prices are very reasonable and no matter what day you come they have lanes open. Its crazy that there not always full.
Plenty of fun, not too expensive. Chicken tenders and fries a great snack. Pizza is a nope. But the service is friendly and helpful. Overall a great time.
This place seemed little old but everything was great! I even got my best score here! They have variety of food and beer. Me and my friends were hungry and had chicken tender, burger, and fries. The Chicken tender was just OK but burger and cheesesteak fries were so good. The employees were also nice.
Its a nice little bowling alley. The staff are friendly, the drinks are reasonable, and its a fun time.
Had a good time! Make sure to go after 9 to get the deals! Food was okay - my son had a blast ..very clean shoes and the people there were wiping everything after every game
We had my sons 3rd bday here and had a blast. Service was on point and food was great we will definitely be back for more parties. Thank you University Lanes.
I understand the shortage of workers...what I dont understand is standing at the front desk for 5 minutes and NEVER get helped. Bathrooms are disgusting and place is old and broken down. Spend your money someplace else!!
Its an old dirty n greasy bowling alley so its good. Just remember to clean out your ball holes...
Its a bowling alley. They have bowling alley beer and food. They have pool. Its exactly what you expect, what more is there to say? Staff is great, tables are kept clean. 10/10
Very nice place to bowl. place is kept clean and has a friendly staff willing and ready to work with and for you. Highly recommened.
Always a great place for some fun. Locally owned, and theyre great people. Very chill and fun environment and the food is not too bad for "bar" food.
Went in with my sister and our two kids. Staff was very nice. They had a problem running my card for the drinks and the bartender decided to pay for our bowling since there was a delay with my card. 4 people and played 2 games each. Very nice gesture! Place was clean, would recommend!
Wasn’t able to bowl once cause of a league, but they also have pool tables which are fun. Friendly staff. When I was able to bowl it was really fun. They are really accepting of groups.
On google and Facebook says open till 1am, when we showed up at 10:30 they said they are closing due to not having enough buisness earlier that day. We drove 1 hour, and they couldnt even put that on FB page or tell us that 1 hour earlier shen we spoke on phone ?
Balls were chipped and would not recommend to bring children because they dont have ball sizes for everyone. The lane was very dry as well and the bolling balls would not return every time.
Some of the the best lanes of any bowling alley Ive been to in the area, the wait for a lane wasnt bad, even tho they had league and a group event going on. Food is below average but its cheap.
Oil in lanes vary too much. League nights you never know what the oil will be like. Staff refuses to tell you the pattern of oil used or even the length. Some staff have said that the technicians change the oil pattern at their own whim, to include increasing oil thickness and layout on different lanes.
Place is cheap looking and is over run with there shoes and equipment. But the place is very much a college scene as well as attracts the older crowd. But the drinks are cheapBut I sadly wouldn’t recommend coming here. Since you pay for what you get
Simple but fun alley with the best prices in town and usually friendly staff. Now if only the juke box wasnt constantly playing the absolutely worst rap possible...(though thats the fault of the patrons, not the establishment)If you dont need rhythm (or taste in musicto bowl, check it out.
Best go to place with friends. Nice and helpful staff, the in house food is tasty ( you can’t bring food of course). The best part the offer happy hours on different days, for one you get $1 Tuesday. Two hours game won’t cost you more than $5 😜
Great friendly staff, everything was clean. My only suggestion concerns the animations on the screens after a bowl. A bowling alley near a university known for its art students and called University Lanes no less could have more interesting and funny shorts to look at. I was bored with the same three 90s looking animations within the first 5 minutes. Other than that, it was a fun time, oh.. and the food was pretty good too.
A lot less expensive then Brunswick. The staff is so much nicer. The tables are kept clean and even the chairs are wiped down. We will definitely come back because we had a great time!
We love this place. It has such a laid back, family feel. It is a throwback to how bowling alleys used to be, before big corporations took over and tried to make all bowling alleys event centers. Some of us just want to bowl and play pool, in a clean friendly environment. This is a place we can bring the whole family. It is safe, clean and welcoming. We feel so comfortable there we even started a youth league a few months ago and it has doubled in size, since we started. That alone is a testament to how much we enjoy being there.
My wife and I really love coming here to bowl as opposed to bigger newer lanes...the owners are really cool people and we feel welcome there when we go , which is not all the time but we always have fun...I have bowled in a league there years ago and that is so much fun.I say go and and have some fun.
Lanes were decent, atmosphere was good, price wasnt bad, had fun overall. Interacted with 4 staff members, 1 of which was a young lady at the main counter who was awesome, a second last at the snack bar was pleasant and 2 others to include the bartender that were rude and seemed miserable.
My shoes had huge holes I could easily stick three fingers thru and the laces were knotted to each other.....the place was dirty. Half the lanes were not being used and we asked for a lane on one side so we didnt have bowlers in lanes on both sides but were refused the request bunching everyone to the center lanes. We stayed because we were already there but wont go back again. Place got a two only because the lanes did no malfunction and we had fun because were are a fun group of people who can now obviously even make a bad venue positively memorable
It might look a little seedy but I love my bowling joints to look a little rough around the edges. Its a great place. The staff is very friendly. I also drilled my bowling ball here, nice guy.
Put out names on the wait list and literally never got called even after Lanes were open and unoccupied. We played pool and had drinks until closing. When we told them that we were never called the employee argued that he called every name. I asked about my name and he said "oh I didnt call that one"
It was fun, and relatively clean. Not that anyone expects bowling alley food to be any good, but biting into a corny dog that is still frozen inside is more than enough to knock off a couple stars. The woman working the food counter was so rude I didnt even want to take it back. Fortunately, they are not a restaurant. Great place to bowl though.
Took my girlfriend out for her birthday around 9pm. I don’t know if this is permanent but they were doing $2 games and $2 shoe rentals after 9pm on Thursdays. They also have $2 2oz draft beers. Good inexpensive bowling, they even gave her a pin for her birthday that she got stuck in the gutter!
My family and I did some bowling around 5pm on Friday afternoon and I must say the staff was vary kind sweet and respectful and lets not forget helpful . Wonderful place to bowl . We will for sure be back to a vary nice bowling alley. It was nice and clean too. Dont miss out vist today.
I only put 1 star because theres no zero star option. While I see that the price is similar to main event etc, I was confused on the pricing because i thought it was 3.50 per game not per person, so obviously the wording is off. Therefore to my surprise when I thought the games were cheap they were similar to many other major bowling places which makes me displeased knowing that small businesses charge the same knowing they are dirty and offer much less. Still fun. But dirty as hell as well.
Went for a kids birthday party. The host of the party ordered a pizza for the kids. They brought a sampler tray instead. When they did this they informed the host that they were out of pizza and brought that instead. The lane attendant also yelled at a parent for retrieving a bowling ball from the side of the lane. The employees were enjoying their conversation and the football game instead of doing their jobs.
I love this place. It has a very comfortable, relaxed feel most of the time, good juke box, helpful employees, and decent snack bar (hey, its bowling alley food, what do you expect. I have worked in bowling alleys so I know they are a struggle to keep clean, especially with the behavior of some of the clientele. Its not a kids entertainment center like Main Event, its a real bowling alley. Ive seen Chris Barnes working on his game at this place. Some people complain about the old man behind the counter. They should know he is a former pro bowler who throws a 300 game a few times a year and has to contend with a wide variety of customers, crazy requests, occasional drunks, as well as very busy league and tournament play. If they care about the sport and not just letting their kids run rampant for a few hours, they might afford a little respect. This place is a Denton icon.
Unless youre desperate dont go here. No idea why an old place like this thinks they can charge similar prices as Main Event. $4.50 per game per person plus $4.25 per person for shoe rentals. Either going off their per person price or their hourly packages, they are only slightly cheaper than places like Main Event. 5 of us shared one lane and bowled for about 2 hours and paid $92 (not including what we spent on food). If you have just a few extra bucks then use it, drive 15 extra minutes, and go to a clean, well taken care of place like Main Event! They put us on a lane with a keypad that didnt work whatsoever. You clicked one button and it bounced all over the place. To type in our names, to fix the scores it jacked up, and any time we needed to do anything on the pad we had to walk up to the front counter to have them do it. Why they didnt just switch our lane Im not sure since for a while we were one of the only two families there. The lane messed up and reset a couple times every game we played. Between the keypad and the lane not working, it was just a big headache. They dont mind charging you full price though! The toilet in the mens room didnt flush. Paid $14 for a pepperoni pizza, but it was more like a cheese pizza with a couple pieces of pepperoni on it. The beer was a decent price though. Thats about the only thing I will give this place.
Love these Lanes much more than across town. Cheap snacks from the grill are a must.Pro Shop in the building.Front desk/phone employees need to work off of a calendar so they wont schedule us when there is a tournament or regular League Play because its not nice to give us an hour at most to bowl when one calls days in advance to inquire about open lane times for a small group. This has happened multiple times.Otherwise, when we do get to bowl, the place is very clean and relatively quiet until evenings when the music ramps up.A fun place to go at any time, have bowled here for many years. Love the scoring screens.
Incredibly rude staff. Cheats, thieves. Wanted to play two games with the family, front desk guy Updike us to "all you can bowl till 11 pm" machines turned off 15 minutes early and when we went to ask about it they said they didnt care and we should not be worrying about the 15 minutes. Would not give money back and made fun of my kids.$5 for 4 cheese sticks that were worst Ive ever had. Rude food lady gave kids a hard time ordering.Lane equipment old and broken.Avoid this place at all costs. Cannot believe they are still in business. Drive a little farther so your night is not ruined
I enjoyed it for months with my friends every Wednesday for their $1 bowling night which the advertisement stated started at 7. Weve been coming every week 6 or more people to bowl, eat and drink at 7pm sharp. And tonight we were treated extremely rudely and informed that the special didnt start until 9. The 7 oclock special was posted directly behind him. So we went 2 miles away to Brunswick zone and were treated much better
