Union Jack Fish & Chips LTD Port Colborne - Fish & chips shop in Port Colborne, Canada
Not really for dining in. Very small space.
I saw the reviews for this place were good, so I thought I would give it a try. 5 Stars all the way! Healthy? No. But dang was it great tasting! Large pieces of fish, crispy crust, fish cooked perfectly, and a good serving of fries. I will be coming back. -Steve
Very bad customer service, me and my family went in and no one attended us and it seems that the owner just stared at us as if we were weirdos, we felt so uncomfortable because of their looks that we left the place, my recommendation is that if you dont have colored eyes oh you are with white skin they will not give you service.
A great place for fish and chips. Just as good today as in years past.
Food is always fresh. Fish and chips with fried shrimp. Delicious combo. You should try it. Easy access. Two tables inside, so it is better for take out orders. You can call ahead
The best fish ever not heavily breaded priced right.
This place has been around for over forty years. Its sign has faded over time, but the fish &chips are still really good. Guess thats why customers are always there.
The food was so good. I am going to go there next week. The man there was so nice and the fish was outstanding!😊
Food and service was excellent. Found this place on Google after spending the day on the beach. When I go to SoCal again Ill be sure to stop by for lunch
Wow! Found this hidden gem by accident! I’m not local, but I’ll be back. Best fish and chips on the west coast. I grew up in England so yes, I have a little experience in this food group. Prices are awesome for the portions. Plus they have pretty cheap British food to purchase like Cadbury Flakes etc.Go there and get yourself some great food!
The best fish in California ❣❣❣❣❣The fish is made fresh and is served hot❣❣❣ Wonderful coleslaw too
The best fish and chips in California!!!!!The fish is cooked fresh when you order it. Its served HOT and is super chrisp!!!!! The crunch stands up even when sprinkled with vinegar!!!!The tartar sauce is fantastic.Delicious homemade coleslaw!!!! Wonderful service and very reasonable prices!!!!!This place is a must do!!!!!!!
Were from out of town, whenever we come to Huntington Beach, Union Jack is always a must for us to get good fish and chips. We brag about you to all our friends at home.
Great fish and chips! Been here for over 20 years
WOW we loved this place! Fantastic food, good prices, quick service (there was a bit of a wait but thats because they fried up our fish fresh for us - still we werent waiting more than 10min), and a fun vibe! Cute little spot that Ill definitely visit again.
Great service. Good food. Every time I go Im always greeted with a warm welcome. Even the customers are nice and wholesome. Just a great place overall.
Fish and Chips at their best! Small place - big flavor!...crispy on the outside flacky on the inside...tarter sauce was so good...reminded me of the Ole H Salt Fish n Chips from my childhood. plus they sell authentic British food products...Malt vinegar you say? oh yes please! Enjoy!
It was okay. Im British and am therefore accustomed to authentic Fish & Chips, where the fish would be battered on site and cooked fresh the same day, with the chips also being cut and fried. Here, it feels like everything is just bought frozen and thrown in the deep fried. Positives were good portion sizes and they also had a selection of British grocery items (yay for Irn-bru). I would probably eat here again as it tasted fine, just nothing like a back home experience.
Soooo good! I’ve been eating here for years. I get 2 fish + 1 shrimp and chips. They sell all sorts of household English things there as well if you are from England
As a Brit I was disappointed. If you’re not comparing it to a good fish n chips in the UK, your experience may be better! The fish is all uniform in size? And smaller than your traditional fish for fish n chips (because they serve 1-4 pieces per plateAlthough the batter was good. And the chips are not like the traditional chips you would expect and disappointing. Also They didn’t have any curry sauce! The reason I only gave it one star is because my spouse got a mars bar and after tasting and thinking that doesn’t taste good I checked the wrapper and it wasn’t even made in the UK which makes a huge difference and I felt cheated!!
Very tasty. Not greasy or anything. Coleslaw is always fresh Service is fast and friendly love that he also carries groceries. However they are always sold out of Cornish pasties. So I’ll. Just have to be patient.Definitely will return.
Quaint hole in the wall. Had fish and chips - nothing unique or extra tasty anymore than other run of the mill fish and chips place, but the owner is super friendly and they have some goodies on a wall you can purchase
Surprisingly good fish. Crunchy with a steaming hot flaky fish center. Chips above average. Did not try the shrimp, but will be back because some of the other offerings look pretty tasty. Whole fam loved it. Recommended!!
My husband & I love this place!! Everything on the menu is fresh & delicious!! I particularly love the clam & strips dinner. Be sure to try the onion rings - the BEST!
Fish, shrimp, and clams are great and always consistent. These guys work their butts off to get everyone in and out. Hush puppies and Coleslaw are awesome as well.
A great place to get your fix of Fish & Chips as well as Shrimp and other menu items. If youve ever been to an H-Salt Fish & Chips, then this will be familiar and Id say even better (This used to be an H-Salt).Bonus points for being able to order a Cold IRN BRU or IDRIS Fiery Ginger Beer (Non-alcoholic).But even better, you can shop a selection of British Groceries (My favorite - Mc Vities Digestives which are great with a cup of tea - Dunk or dip them for maximum enjoyment). (Yes they sell British tea bags as well).
Great Place for Good Quality Fish and Chips or other fried seafood of your choice. Very authentic and done the right way! The Classic Fish and chips are my favorite and their most popular.
July 1st. 2021. I ordered, 2 pieces o fish, no chips. I enjoyed, the fish. Light & tasty. The Cold Creamy Tartar Sauce was Good. Cold Sauce on Hot Flaky light on my belly, Fish. Yum 🐟
Usually get the seafood combo but was craving their fish.. so I got 6 of them with extra tartar sauce! Had to do it, and was so worth it! The oil always is clean and fresh👌🏽
Prices are fair, but more importantly it tastes great & all the reviews Ive seen are spot on.Fish & chips, shrimp, fried clams, & scallops are all very good. Great place to get you seafood fix without going broke.
Im giving five stars for this little fish and chips place for several reasons. The fish is very good. It has a light crust on it and its very white and light inside. I think the french fries are kind of soft but but theyre tasty. The people who work at/own this place are polite, hard-working, gracious people and I appreciate that as well. Also I think the prices are very fair. I dont think youll be disappointed. Its good!
The fish and chips are deliciously fried to perfection! The jumbo shrimp too awesome for words 😋 And, if your looking for authentic European crackers, biscuits, candies and sauces...they have it.
Having read the rave reviews, we were disappointed. Clearly most people have never had real fish & chips from a real british chippy. Fish was reconstituted (all uniform size and shape). Real fish arent like that. Battered and frozen, not dipped just prior to cooking. Chips were poor. Tartar sauce had no flavor. In future I will buy my bisto and pickled onions here, but fish and chips are not a patch on any chippy across the pond.
Went here for the first time today as I was having a craving for Fish & Chips. Other than Farmer Boys, I haven’t been able to find another place with good fish and chips since HSalt went out of business years ago.Anyway, the smell when you walk in the entrance is very British. It took me back to when I was a kid and we used to have fish & chips regularly. The restaurant is very clean and they are very strictly adhering to COVID guidelines. The staff was very nice and helpful and there were a number of customers going in and ordering and picking up phone orders. It took about 10 minutes to get our order as there were a number of orders ahead of us. Each order is made to order so everything is fresh and there is nothing just sitting around under a heat lamp. When we got our order the smell was so intoxicating. I was smelling it for the whole drive home and I was salivating for the whole drive. When we got home and started eating it, it was the best fish I have had in years and as others have said, it was not greasy or oily. The chips were good and not oily either. We also had the coleslaw which was not overly sweet and was very nice on the pallet. My mother is 78 and says it’s the best fish and chips she has ever had and she is from New York. I will definitely be coming back for more in the future. Hats off to the owners and staff for making this slice of heaven available for all of us.
After flying my friend suggested eating here at Union Jacks. Very good fish and chips, Ill be coming here again. I can recommend this place.
Always love this place. Reminds me of the chipper back home in Ireland. Cool selection of British candies & food products. Friendly staff. Good prices. Great food. Check this place out.
Okay so this Union Jacks Fish and Chips has been in business or at this location I would say for at least fifty years give or take a year but at least 50 since I grew up in Huntington Beach I was going here as a kid. Fast forward to hear today the fish and chips place in Costa Mesa closed up about two years ago and the owners of that fish and chips Union Jacks Fish and Chips, went and took possession of the location in Huntington Beach or maybe its considered Fountain Valley Im not sure however it is the one thats located on Talbert Avenue in this big old shopping center its kind of catty-corner but it is still every bit as delicious and the owners which I was so happy to see made everything fresh to order and it was just as awesome there may be a little bit more because I remember going there as a kid and it was just the same, but the food was just as delicious as the owners from their location in Costa Mesa that I used to frequent often it was just delicious it was great! So if you really looking for true fish and chips not to mention a variety of true English Fair condiments candies jellies cookies do name it they have it on the Shelf really had to Union Jacks Fish and Chips located on Talbert Avenue and thats all I can say except if you want fish and chips or their shrimp oh my gosh their shrimp are delicious you cant get enough of them and their onion rings the better to use on all their fried foods is just exceptional! Bravo my friends it was good to see you and I will be back again soon!
Best Fish and Chips this side of London! The worshipful Lord Mayor himself of Camdentown would be proud to dine here, I says. Yes sir, I say so myself.
The food fresh for fish and chips. Fish was amazing and the batter was as it should be for great quality fish and chips. The owner attended me with a great attitude and tried to make me feel welcomed with my handicap. Thanks for the great food and service. Oh and they have legit candy from England you should try one out.
Ive been trying to find a place that served fried clams. This is a small place with British groceries. Great fish and chips! The shrimp, scallops, clams and chicken were really good as well. The food was not greasy and they serve it on paper plates, so you can really tell if its greasy or not. The owner was very nice and friendly.
I think having the best fish & chips in Iceland has ruin other places for me. The chips here was good and the fish was crispy without being greasy. I even tried their shrimp. But the favor wasnt there.
This place is delicious! Their menu is very simple and to the point. Try their 2 piece shrimp/fish & chips. Yum! Its a teeny restaurant but be sure to have enough time to wait because theres traffic. All worth the wait👌
Ive passed by this place so many times and always wanted to try it. Today I finally did! The vibe of the place was pretty cool, you feel like you just time slipped back in time. Just had one of those vibes.Love their food. I got the 3 fish and chips dinner plate. It was delicious! Definitely will be back. I hope this place is around forever. I also really like their logo and packaging. Its cute!
Good Cod fish and chips. Light and crispy batter. Owner was very accomodating as we walked in close to closing on a Friday night with a party of 10. Small sit in area but we made it work. Would have preferred fresh cut potato fries.
Friendly little British fish n chips spot with a few tables inside. Theyve got some good seafood combo deals for under $10. Little heavy on the breading since its British style but really tasty and the tartar sauce is well made.
Honestly one of the best Fish and Chips in the Orange County. Reasonably priced, cooked to order, hot on the plate. Not to mention exceptional service! What more can you ask for? Union Jack also has a few British grocery hard to find items. Neighborhood friendly atmosphere.
👍 GOOD VALUE, GOOD FISH, GREAT CHIPS & NICE STAFF✔️ The owner is very nice & always happy every time I have been there.✔️ Small dining area is clean, comfortable & they have a few outside seats.✔️ They feature some British candy and treats which are very interesting to see. I have bought a few of them in the past, Violet Crumble and the Aero bar were good. I actually like to this area of the small shop, it is so different from treats in the U.S.✔️ Prices are low, not cheap, but a good value. The fish & chips are always cooked while you wait...they seldom ever use the heat lamps for any length of time.OVERALL A COOL LITTLE PLACE TO GRAB A MEAL, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TIRED OF TYPICAL FAST FOOD & GREASY "HEAT-LAMPED" FRENCH FRIES (CHIPS)
I saw this place was near my destination and i am a sucker for fish and chips. This place even has an authentic air about it as it is a British grocery too.. It did contain all the joy i would expect a British joint to have. But, in spite of that, my order was delicious. the fish was sturdy enough to dunk in the tartar sauce, and even sturdy enough for the Vinegar. it was delicious! the fries were crispy and delicious too. I will definitely come back here.
Been here for years, consistently fresh, big pieces of fish, good prices. Soft and tender inside, crisp outside, easy way to eat fish thats a bargain (considering how much actual fish meat you getversus hamburger chain fish burgers. Amusing reading the free British paper they have here, wall stocked with a small array of British jams, biscuits, and snacks.
As a Brit Im in constant search of a decent chippy - and while union do a cracking job at their fish (batter is not quite like hometheir chips arent pukka like home - dont get me wrong, theyre decent, but not like home; too thin and remind me of quality frozen chips from Tesco.Love the British food shelf - lots of items that remind you of home.Smells like a real chippy too - memories of late Friday nights after the pub, queuing for chips and curry sauce
