Upscale, locally sourced New American fare in a refined, white-tablecloth setting.
Sunday brunch was excellent. Will definitely go back
The Undercurrent has better food then Gramacy Tavern in NYC. Although it doesn’t officially have a Michelin Star it could. The flavor palate is sophisticated and changes frequently which is the mark of excellent fine dinning. The staff are friendly and attentive.
We enjoyed dining with friends at Undercurrent last week. Our meal choices were varied and delicious. My entree was the special pork tenderloin. It was a fabulous complex awesome mixture of texture & taste. Perfect! I highly recommend this restaurant. Professional server & staff with welcoming warm ambiance.
Had a wonderful dinner at Undercurrent! The food was delicious and beautifully prepared. The staff were all very friendly and made us feel like family being there. It was apparently that all of them enjoyed working there and interacting with guests. It was a pleasure dining here and some of the best service that Ive received. Will definitely come back again.
The fried oysters were small and a bit salty. Very nice staff. Great martinis.
First time eating here. It was fantastic! Very reasonable... everyone was so friendly ❤️
Phenomenal food!!! Everything is as good as it sounds. The white chocolate bread pudding is literally one of the best desserts Ive ever had (if you like caramel!). Id go back in a heartbeat and try anything on their menu. Service was topnotch, too!
We have been there many times and loved it. But our last time we had the worst service from the manager. I reached out via email to discuss as we had been customers for many years. I am not sure we will go back but the food has always been excellent
Food was delicious!!!!!!!!!!!! Sweet Tea was really good!!!!! And our waitress was amazing. Her recommendations were on point. The Verde Soup and the Trout dish!!
Jordan was great. Good food (small menuand nice outdoor patio. Thanks for a pleasant evening
Super friendly. Food was freaking good. Reasonable prices. Best place I’ve eaten at for awhile.
We have spent a lot of time at all of the "nice" restaurants in Greensboro and this one is at the top of our list. Way better than Green Valley Grill or 1618, both feeling frozen, canned and dated. The way the chef layers the plates at Undercurrent they are always exploding with flavor. Every element is like the best version of itself. And the bread is this fresh crunchy doughy goodness with whipped butter. They always have new creative specials and we have never been disappointed. The service is such a pleasure. Love!!
The place is pretty. Looks better inside. The manager was great. Bartender, a bit of an attitude. Food really is just ok. Quail was fried too long and became bitter. Tabouleh salad didnt taste like anything and the spring rolls also under seasoned and over hyped. I like the fact they make a lot of stuff in house. Pickles are on point and so is their butter. Really was expecting a better experience.
I chose Undercurrent as a lunch celebration spot for some top producers for our firm for Q2. My husband and I have dined here for lunch and dinner many times over the years and had been a frequent business lunch spot for us both as professionals with clients. I was very disappointed. We are seated and 18 minutes pass without ANYONE coming to our table to greet us or get drinks started. I had to go to host stand to get someone to serve us. The waitress, who finally comes over after the host took our Champagne order, seemed annoyed at us (maybe because we had to report to host we hadn’t been greeted yet). I ask her “How is the Trout?” She replies “Fine”. I’m sure I made a face and turned to my coworkers to see their reaction. I think at that point she realized that it was not only a rude response, but more importantly not the level of service that would be expected for a restaurant of this caliber (expected by the patrons and the owner). She then told me that actually it was their best seller for lunch. We had to ask for bread twice and they ran out of ALL lunch specials by 12. So strange. I will no be going back to this restaurant again any time soon. The biggest disappointments were the menu, the lack of specials and mostly the service.
Had a luncheon for a work colleague and everything was wonderful. The restaurant was beautiful and the staff was amazingand food was delicious. Parking is a little tight be prepared to use the ParkMobile App to pay at meters. Highly recommend a visit though.
Undercurrent was UNDERWHELMING. Poor service. Took them 1.5 hours to serve us the main course which was mediocre at best. The deserts were awful. Crazy overpriced for just average food. We don’t mind paying for an amazing meal but this wasn’t it. So disappointed. Won’t be back.
First of all the ambiance is amazing! The tables are well spaced out so you don’t feel forward and can have an intimidate dinner. We went for my moms birthday and she was greeted with a happy birthday from the host and our waitress Jordan. For apps we had friend oysters (they were OK), their ciabatta bread (IM IN LOVE WITH IT ), organic greens salad (very delicious), Cucumber-Melon Gazpacho (if you like cold things this is very refreshing), Piquillo Muhamara (sooo fantastic). For the mains we had the steak (good), the trout with the salmon sides (my mom requested this change and they were happy to accommodate. I had the scallop and grits and while the scallop was alright the grits were terrible with it so I took off a star for this. They were kind enough to take half off since I didn’t have any of the grits and our waitress Jordan was amazing. Overall a great place and I would go again to try something new.
Great food! Great service.👍😉
Excellent cuisine! Excellent service! Im not very good with wine pairing so my server suggested the perfect wine with what I ordered. I will definitely return.
Love the food, presentation, menu options, great staff. It was our Valentines day restaurant go-to for years when we lived in Greensboro, and still enjoy going back whenever were in town.
Great service. Food was delicious, but way over priced. Menu was not varied.
Amazing experience you will not be disappointed.
Its Absolutely a remarkable dining experience!! The Atmosphere, the Staff and the Food was Superb!! I recommend this restaurant for All Special Occasions or just a night out!!! Special Shout out to Jordan, our waitress was absolutely Amazing. Thank You Undercurrent for an Amazing Evening!!!
The food was great and the service was excellent. This was a business dinner and everyone was pleased. Well be returning the next time we meet with this group.
Delicious food, great staff. Outside seating is wonderful, nice wall of flowers and shade
My niece Olutomi Balogun Bridal Shower celebration was amazing 3/27/22.@ your restaurant
Went here for a private party. The atmosphere and decor are amazing. Excellent service, awesome staff. Only drawback was that my burger was a bit undercooked, Definitely plan to come back here again….
I come here often for business lunch. Today, We had the best lunch we ever had in Undercurrent:- The Coriander Rubbed Skillet Seared Salmon with cold soba noddle salad, wasabi aioli, ponzu, pickled ginger-pea shoot salad.and- Grilled Carolina Trout Filet with giant white bean house cured bacon ragout, kale, white balsamic-pink peppercorn Aioli, parsley-sun flower seed pesto. Both absolutely DELICIOUS! Then, we ended with the Bread Pudding for dessert, Wowwww!!!!!Parking could be challenging sometimes, but completely worth it.Service is good, not excellent… Details, are always important!!!
Had a private dining event here tonight and their food is incredible. I enjoyed their Sweet Potato Soup, Skillet Seared Salmon Filet, and Honey Cranberry Cheesecake. Had a few Lemon Drop Martinis as well. Atmosphere was pleasant and service was great!
I had a family dinner here tonight, in the private dining room, prior to my wedding tomorrow. We are from out of town (Florida), but everything from booking to finish was fantastic. Cara was an amazing planner for our event, the food was delicious, and everyone was so warm and welcoming.I wish I had the names of the waitress/waitor because they were lovely. I would give 10 stars if I could.
A decent fine dining place in downtown Greensboro! Totally blown away by the quality of the food, and service, too. Be sure to reserve your table in advance. Will definitely come back again next time when around this area.
Got seated quickly at a great bar table since we went last-minute. I had salmon, hubby had the tilefish special, and both were delicious! Yummy ginger cheesecake for dessert. The service was fantastic and prompt, since they knew we were headed to a show and had a deadline. Thank you!!
Awesome brunch! The shrimp and grits were fantastic! The service is superb too! Will be back!
We had very bad service at our dinner, which is disappointing and very unusual. We’ve been a big fan through the years and were surprised to hear that a reservation only guaranteed us ‘a slot’ but not a table in the dining room, and that it was the customer’s burden to specifically request a dining room table since the restaurant has been booked all January and February. We surely wish we had known you were so booked you couldn’t even set some expectations about what a reservation would get us. If we knew there were only bar seats available for the night or that your months were booked like we were told, we’d have gladly booked a different night/month when we could have a proper dinner.Other area restaurants like Green Valley or even Lucky 32 offer bar vs dining room reservation options on Open Table. Having that would have managed our expectations, and we’d have ordered the full course from drinks to desserts like we always have.We always came to Undercurrent for the entire experience, not merely the food. It’s sad that the hostess and host (or staff?didn’t seem to understand bar vs dining room service ARE different and that customers do go for an entire package, for which Undercurrent has set a great standard in the past. (Again, we loved this place and we missed the awesome service!)So disappointing.
I love this restaurant, the food is always well done and the service is excellent, the drinks are strong and the wine list long. It has a perfect date night atmosphere, with out being too dark or overly romantic feeling. I highly recommend making reservations. Also Ive been here for brunch before the menu was fantastic.
My boss took me here for lunch to sprinkle me for my second baby. The restaurant is beautiful, large, and full of light. I was greeted at the door by a host who had trouble finding my reservation. Another host came by to help him out and told him that my guest had already been seated and that cleared up the misunderstanding. I was afraid for a second that Id have to awkwardly call my boss and tell her that they didnt have her registered there. That, but also relief kicked in since it took me some time to find parking, which was very limited. Almost believed I was at the wrong place! After settling in, we ordered our meals and service was delightful. Id ordered a chicken salad sandwich which is something I dont get to eat often considering the safety that has to go into ensuring its okay as a preggo. It tasted wonderful and fresh. My boss ordered the Skillet Seared Salmon Filet to which she felt was very tasty, but was dissappointed at the portion size. It was maybe a 2"x2" square piece. At first glance, it looked like there were two pieces but the other one was the Tarragon Potato Gratin. Unfortunately, she still had an appetite after finishing this $20 entree. Finally, we split a Cherry Cordial Chocolate Tart. And by split I mean, she wanted a taste and I ate the rest. It was very tasty! All in all, I think this would be a great place to take someone on a date given the ambiance, service, and generally tasty food. If youre looking to also be full, Id probably look somewhere else for the moderately high-priced items.
Very lovely place with the ambiance to match. Friendly greeter, and very impressive wait staff. Our server Alvin, clear spoken, menu knowledge was impressive, as well as his attention to details of the patrons he severed. The food was stellar. Vibrant full flavored and so tasty. If youre looking for a night out The Underground is the place to go.
Sooo very good. Every bite had different tastes in it.They we’re out of the 2 wine selections. However that isn’t going to stop me from coming back. We’ll be back for sure.Alex- Rack of Lamb (Could have had one or two more lamb ribs)Karyn-Duck (Flavors we’re amazing)Me-Salmon (Sauce was amazing, Cooked great)Patty-Scallops (Great portions)
Great experience! Food was excellent - we had the the mixed green salad w/a spicy pepadew buttermilk dressing & a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with their house-made potato salad, we were both very satisfied with our choices. We had a few cocktails, which were superb, very well balanced. The desserts sounded amazing but we didnt have time to indulge. We will definitely be back & look forward to having dinner next time! Everyone who worked there was very friendly & helpful.
We will not come back at any condition. We find this restaurant on google map. The google says this restaurant is a“American” style, but actually it is Mexican style.we ordered one chicken, one fried oyster, and one salmon as entree. The chicken was served with some cooked beans, rice, fried round stuff, and some veggies. None of these elements taste good. All taste horrible. I doubt the cook working here is your enemy. His purpose here is just to ruin all the food, Chase all the customers away. The Fried oyster is soooooo terrible. Oyster is best choice of seafood. It is easy to cook well and taste good. No one can cook it bad. I cannot imagine How your cook can ruin the best oyster. To be frankly The salmon is ok, not horrible.Since I ate in all restaurants. This restaurant is the worst one.
We enjoyed an absolutely fantastic meal here. Service was wonderful, drinks were great, and food was awesome!
Wonderful experience. Food was incredible, the waiter suggested a wonderful wine. Did not feel over stuffed after completing my meal plus dessert. All around great experience!
I had the chicken shawarma as an appetizer. It was so-so… a bit bland without the sauce. For the entree, I believe I ordered the trout risotto (it was a special). It was tasty, although the asparagus was a bit over cooked, I enjoyed my meal. I opted in for dessert and wow… the mango panna cotta with the jalapeño cookie was quite the pleasant surprise. Loved it. I had two cocktails - the bartender did amazing.
WonderfulThe best fine dinning in the Triad.Salmon and Lamb are cooked to perfection, but it is the sauces that make every dish great. No need to add anything except maybe more sauce. The appetizers are amazing. The "billi-bi vol au vent" mussels with pastry and sauce. Was superior.White chocolate, blueberry pudding with caramel sauce, oh the sauces, so good I got another to go.Sincere appreciation to the kitchen, the servers et al.#GoogleLocalGuides#Traid.
Drinks, food, outdoor space, wait staff, all two thumbs up! We were nervous going during COVID but were fortunate to sit outside. It was just us and another couple. The staff wore masks and practiced social distancing. The staff made great recommendations - seared scallops, duck breast and the bread pudding. I do not like bread pudding because it is usually too dry so I was skeptical but it was perfect! Were from out of town but cant wait to come back.
Wow! The seafood was fresh and delicious, the service was phenomenal, and the desserts were to die for! 🏆 We will definitely head back to Undercurrent and continue to experience the dishes the chef will prepare.
One of the best contemporary american dinners Ive had in a while. We got the lobster spring roll with the most amazing ginger sauce, followed by perfectly balanced salmon and flounder entrees. The blueberry bread pudding that we ended with was out of the world. Great service, great food. Just sad that I did not find this experience sooner!Photo shows the flounder special and the salmon dinner entrees.
We had a wonderful dinner made of super fresh ingredients from local farms. My favorite was the Salmon with ginger-rhubarb purée and fried leeks. For dessert, the blueberry bread pudding was amazing.
So I made reservations here today at 5:30 for my wifes birthday and to be honest. I WISHED I had taken her back to Print Works Bistro. That place was AMAZING but here. First off our waiter Graham was NOT the best waiter. He took forever to refill drinks on multiple occasions, ONLY refilled my wifes glass once to the point she had to drink from my glass, gnats was flying around (which landed in my drink see picturewhen she was thirsty and we had to ask TWICE for the complementary bread. The overall atmosphere during our meal was good. Our appetizer and dessert WAS amazing. Entrees was mediocre. So when I ask for the check, I paid for our meal with cash and handed over $101.13 which wouldve given us $20 for remainder. Which my wife told him and SHOWED him before I handed him the check and our money. Graham NEVER returned with our change, instead he walks off and has the receptionist bring our receipt and a whole bunch of 1 dollar bills. My wife then kindly informs her we have the incorrect change, she then goes to talk to Graham and he tells her we didnt give the amount we stated and we gladly informed her that Graham said ok upon receiving the check and our money. No one apologize for THEIR mistake and I felt like my wife and I were pre-judged based on our race and thats when service from Graham started to declined from the beginning. We WILL NEVER go back here and I will be contacting the owners or managers to inform them about their staff. I might even reach out to a news outlet to see if I can make the public aware. I HATE my wife had to experience this place in such a negative manner on her birthday.
Fantastic restaurant in Greensboro. High quality meal and charming staff. Unfortunately we weren’t offered a desert menu, which was disappointing. It’s well worth visiting this restaurant though.
