Excellent food and presented beautifully. The ordering system using purely digital is a bit odd but sort of works.Good vegan choices, interesting sake and cocktails. So all in all well worth a visit

It was an experience....the waiters were smooth, that is friendly and helpful and actually entertaining which added to the whole experience, which I think most people would like atmosphere good food and friendly staff...resultFood was so tasty, from the first mouthful to when I cleaned the last plate...Certainly a place to revisit.....🤓👍

The curry katsu don was lacking in curry unfortunately but was alright. Vegetarian options were also lacking, was an extra £3 to replace their don with curry katsu sauce...The premium sake flights were great, however I asked the waiter twice to identify the sakes but we had to open up the origami crane for it. Now I know my sake and whisky but Im no expert connoisseur and notes could have been missed without expecting it, which could have ruined the experience. Many times the waiters were also pushing different drinks without knowing what they were.

:)- Portion size was appropriate so that I do not overeat.- Ambience was relaxing.- Food tasted great and more original/traditional. It is definitely better than the generic commercial restaurants.I had the pork belly ramen, pork tonkatsu, and salmon sushi rolls so far. I am looking forward to trying the beef shin ramen my next trip.:(- Table size was a little small though and felt a little squeezed. Especially if I eat with a friend and we order side dishes and drinks.Overall, happy with my visit. Will return!

Have a fantastic meal tonight. The staff were great, no hanging around, but there when required. Will definitely be visiting again in the very near future.

Listen. Me and my girlfriend love Japanese food. Love it. We have tried Japanese restaurants in Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester and more. Nowhere and I mean no where comes close to umi. Everything at umi is perfect. I had a ramen today in Newcastle taste like a cup of soup. Was bad. But umi? Is to die for.Umi is perfect. 10/10.

An absolutely fantastic Japanese restaurant that produces many interesting and delicious starters, small bites, sushi rolls and mains.Each meal and cocktail here is meticulously prepared and presented so well that it is almost a shame to eat it.Certainly not a cheap restaurant but not overpriced neither given the quality of food and service. Highly recommend to anyone who likes Asian and/or Japanese food.

Top quality food in a nice laid back environment. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Some of the best cocktails Ive ever had!

Firstly the service is amazing, servers are attentive but not over bearing and accomadating! The interior is lovely and everything kept clean and to a high standard. Lastly, the food was top tier. Fresh made to order sushi, good portions and excellent quality all round!

Ive tried a fair few Japanese and oriental places from Middlesbrough to Newcastle and I must say that Umi stacks up poorly. The portion sizes are tiny for the price that you pay, and the quality isnt even great so I dont know how they justify it.

Really lovely restaurant with great Japanese food. Service was efficient and friendly and recommended dishes. The ramen was gorgeous and my wife loved the Chicken Katsu curry.Went a second time with a mate and still great 👍

A friend recommended the place and he surely was right. Very cool place, with a very friendly and helpful staff, two minutes away from the city centre.Tried almost all the popular dishes, and I cant say enough good things about the pork belly ramen, but the miso soup, as simple as it is, was superb.Really enjoyed the entire meal.

Very nice food. £75 for two adults, one child. The soft drinks are tiny, £2.50 for a mixer size drink. They tried to overcharge us which is easy when you don’t get a paper menu. Charged 50p for an extra piece of ginger.

Clean , small Restaurant.I had a pleasant dinner with my friends , I am a sushi lover ,so I gave it a go to Umi .Staff is definitely attentive, they gave me a menu with all the dairy free dishes I was allowed to eat cause of my bad allergy and they are very fast to clean up empty plates.The only issue for me is that the portions are way too small , but nice food and atmosphere. Thank you :)

Lovely Japanese food, The Pork Belly Ramen was delicious 😋 👌 Staff were great and one of our party is a very slow eater and we were able to take a doggy bag home. Great service 👏

A nice restaurant, waiters happy to help with the choice from the menu. Food was delicious. To have a look at the menu you need to scan a QR code and open it on your phone. Its a .pdf file which is not phone friendly. I had sore eyes when I was finished with the menu.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. The food was served very fast. Upon asking the description of each dish I wanted, it was explained very well. The portions were fantastic – filling and full of flavour. The waiter was sufficient, organised, and very professional. I was fasting and the waiter was kind enough to bring water at the time of opening my fasting and wished me a happy Ramadan before I left.

Food was amazing! Felt genuinely Japanese. Service was a little lacking. Not bad or rude etc, just not good.Ask for table water, my two mouthfuls of Galaxy lemonade was lovely, looked great.... but was mostly ice...Xoxox

One of the best Ramens I have ever had. The broth is extremely hearty and flavourful, and the pork belly is slow cooked so the meat and fat melts in your mouth, but the outside is perfectly seared with herbs and spices. Couldnt recommend more!

Food was good, sushi arrived quickly. Katsu curry nice but needed more sauce. Dinner for 4 people (3 starters, 4 mainswith drinks just over £90 which wasnt too bad we thought. Quite busy for a Thursday night between Christmas and New Year

Highly recommended! Ive been three times now. Amazing cocktails and good selection of vegan options for food. I recommend the wakame gunkan.

A hidden gem in Middlesbrough, usually I go to Uno or Central Park for family meals out but thought Id give Umi a try. Had the set lunch and loved every course, will definitely be coming back and would recommend anyone to give it a try soon 👍

Beautiful place, kind and knowledgeable staff, perfectly reasonable price! We love Japanese food and eat home made ramen most weeks. This was the second best ramen Ive had and everything else was delicious! Getting more food when we go back for my birthday on Saturday, and cant wait for our family and friends to try it 😊Cocktails were also lovely! My partner was disappointed in the choice of Japanese beer as there was only one but he enjoyed it!

Best ramen in town. I love tonkotsu broth and that one was almost perfect for me.9/10 Broth: great taste, smooth taste, I would add little more spices9/10 meet: delicious pork belly9/10 noodles, exactly what I expected7/10 extras: I would love to see little more greens in it

For a table of 5 our bill including drinks was around £120.We tried everything we wanted to, and then reordered more of what was exceptionally nice.Try as much as you want, the prices are good for the fresh sushi rolls as well as the cooked dishes.Service was attentive and fast, food is ready when it is dont rush it.Will be going back.

We love it. Been fans before Umi moved and were still fans now. This time came with our daughter whos nearly two and if she doesnt like something she goes yuck Daddy. Shes not said that about any of the food shes tried and gladly carried on eating without prompts. As for us we forgot to take pictures of some of the food because its that good. Its well priced, tasty and its great quality food. I wouldnt say its the most authentic Japanese, but its more like contemporary modern Japanese quality cousine that will make you feel pleasantly contempt.

Wonderful staff, made us feel very welcome (even with a babydue to all the staffs possitive attitude we had an extra round of boa buns and cocktails!Food was also very good and we both wished we lived closer so we could come regularly. Thank you!

The food here was nice but the waiting time is not good. We waited 1 hours for our starters. 1 of our party got their main 1 hr 30 mins and had finished it 10 mins before the other 2 of us got ours. We were running late so I had to down my main course so therefore didnt get a chance to enjoy it. The staff were polite and give us 20% off the 2 main courses that were extremely late but it put a damper on the whole experience

Amazing, fresh sushi, incredible service, if you like japanese food (mainly sushithis place is a must-visit, you wont get any better anywhere else on Teesside.

Amazing experience, you wont be let down fresh, testy and nice presentation too. If you are bothered by fishy smell in some restaurant, I can assure that you wont smell it in here "Umi Mbro". Service is very quick, friendly faces and nice atmosphere. I can say my current #1 restaurant in Mbro for fresh and testy food if you like diverse fine food.

We had several dishes for our St. Valentines day meal before these final mains, all of them but my Donburi Eel (picturedDELICIOUS! *that point in itself, not enough to mark it down from five stars thoughThe establishment is cozy and the staff are friendly. I highly recommend if ever youre venturing in to Middlesbrough.

Excellent food and service. Enjoyed miso, sushi and Don Burri rice bowls.Definitely be returning.
