Umeko Taiwanese Cuisine - Taiwanese restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan
Umeko Taiwanese Cuisine in Taipei
Description
Privilege
Picked the eel lunch set with rice. The eel is prepared with light flavor and overall decent yet nothing special. Service felt rushed and a server kept bumping into my table twice while I’m eating. Then a server later grabbed my bag hanged on the back of chair and shoved in my back saying some excuses… overall just very rude.
MoreUnagi kabayaki don is nice, but unagi, tho is fresh, is not that amazing because of sauce staying only on skin.Vibe over here is nice and clerks are kind, even sometimes would give u tips for enjoying dishes.Tamagoyaki is soft and rich, having it with white radish adds layers of taste.Sashimi is fresh and great, including salmon, tuna and swordfish.Urchin hand roll is satisfying and fresh. In the end, they served almond and plum jelly as free desserts. Both are good and wipe all greasy feeling in the mouth!BTW, last but not least, reserve ahead! That would save your time!
MoreFood is goodService is really good too
Great food and a good price, but what stood out to me is the excellent service.
Very comfy place with very warm vibes.Warm people, delicious food.Fully recommend!!!
MoreAuthentic classic Japanese restaurant. Unagi Don (eel riceis fantastic.
It was our first time at Umeko and we enjoyed every second of it. Nice environment, friendly staff (several of them took time to give us recommendations and stories of the dishes), and most importantly, the food was supreme. We ordered the lunch unagi bento set. It comes with shrimp salad, sashimi, steamed egg, eel rice, herbal soup, and plum jell-o. Everything was fresh and flavorful.I look forward to returning!
MoreThis is about the 6th or 7th time I have been here. Every time has been very enjoyable - the food is excellent and the price is fair. It has a very family feel which my wife and I love.
MoreAs someone who infrequently visits Taipei, every single meal counts! This is a restaurant that truly provides a quality experience. The food was EXCEPTIONAL. I’ve been to many Japanese restaurants in Taipei and this place takes the cake. The eel was delicious, the soup was rich and nutritious, and the dessert was perfectly sweet. The owner of the restaurant is also SO ATTENTIVE. She remembered my party and conversed lightly with us.I highly recommend this restaurant for the food, ambience, and also affordability. Please go!! You won’t regret it.
MoreThis is very good service and delicious food here! Also the environment is clean and have air conditioning! We like it very much!
MoreVery decent food with good price.
The food is subpar, ordered the eel set and the eel tasted not fresh and was microwaved. The side dishes were also not very good. The steamed egg tart tasted strange. Most importantly, the service was very poor. The owner (older ladywas extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming. Please stay away from this restaurant. They are using paid social media (the local guide reviews are paidto amplify their footprint online but food is not great.
MoreNice restaurant...I heard it is one of oldest Japanese restaurant in the area. Food has original Japanese taste. Super delicious. The staff is very friendly. Come here you wont regret
MoreOrdered the Unagi Jyu set meal. Unagi is traditionally served with red miso soup but the restaurant did a twist and offered a white miso with fish bone soup instead. It was tasty nonetheless. The unagi rice came with too much sauce and it turned out to be more of a gravy rice. Too sweet. The sancho peeper wasn’t offered as a standard. Only upon request. Prawn salad starter was refreshing. The set meal comes with sashimi but there is an option for a hand roll for the non-sashimi lover. A choice of plum or almond jelly for dessert. Service was attentive and helpful but felt rushed. NT680 for a basic set and +NT50 for certain main courses eg. unagi, grill lamb chops etc. AND a 10% service charge.
MoreExtremely delicious.Food comes quickly and the service is really nice.
Good service and delicate delicious food 🤤
My first impression of the restaurant was that the grilled eel was good but unfortunately I got a terrible gastroenteritis that lasted several days. I doubt their kitchen is very sanitary. I will never go back there again.
MoreToo expensive, the quality of eel was really bad.The salmon egg was not fresh and had a wired smell.
MoreOrdered a set menu with unagi rice, shrimp salad, sashimi, steamed eggs, miso soup, and dessert. Unagi rice is good to try, I really like the sauce.
MoreNice quality food especially the grilled squids it’s amazing love it!!
After discovering Umeko about a year ago, Ive come about 5 times or so. It used to be fantastic. Unfortunately, after tonight I definitely will never come back. The food quality used to be great. Today it was worse than cheap chain store quality. The eel used to be terrific, best in Taipei. Today it was worse than a frozen grocery store eel.The service used to be attentive and kind. Today the servers ignored us, screwed up the service sequence (2 main dishes came first, then appetizers, then salad, then soup, then dessert, then 1 more main dish). They did not refill the tea after a dozen requests, until I finally went to get it myself and they wouldnt allow me to.At the end of the night, I gave feedback to the server that something was wrong with todays service. The response? "Too bad, sorry." The cost is about 2x the amount of comparably rated restaurants. Theres simply no reason to ever come back here again.
MoreOnly had a picture of just one our starting dish as the remaining dishes from the set meal (reasonable priced at 480nt$comprising salad, sashimi, unagi/codfish don, chawanmushi/egg omelette, and plum jelly dessert were impeccable. Enjoyed great hospitality by the waiting staff and we even picked up a few tips on how to enjoy the egg omelette with soya sauce and a dash of chilli powder.
MoreSurprised that the eel of a restaurant with a 4 stars review was bland and with so many hard fish thorns. But the plum jelly dessert wasn’t too bad.
MoreGreat food, the eel was a first for me but I loved it. The manager (I thinkwas very hospitable. I had a nice chat with her. Small but cosy place.
MoreThe staff is really friendly and the portion of the food is definitely satisfying. The environment is good for business trip or gathering with friends.
MoreFirst Japanese restaurant I visited in Taipei and it was just so so. The service was pretty good and theyre all very friendly and attentive. The eel bento box was nice as it came with a ton of sides but nothing really special about it... Just your run of the mill eel on rice. The steamed egg was ok. It also came with a few cuts of sashimi, soup, and prawn salad. The soft shell crab roll was oddly in plastic wrap and it was just fine. All in all, an ok experience.
MoreExcellent eel. The BBQ skewers were top notch. Friendly service and intimate settings
MoreSo good! Unagi don was really good! You have to try. All menus in here was served in reasonable price and I will definitely visit here again.
MoreThe food here is great! I had sashimi and shisamo fish and sake. The ambience is good and very neat and clean. The staffs here are really friendly and helpful. Even Namie Amuro visited this restaurant in 2015 !
MoreGreat tasty authentic Japanese food by a family run restaurant. Services is good, price is good. Great value for money. The Unagi is especially nice.
MoreTheir most popular dish is the eel bento and it was delicious! It came with a salad, your choice of egg (my boyfriend and I got one of each), sashimi, miso soap and choice of jelly dessert.I’m not a fan of raw fish but my boyfriend is and he enjoyed the sashimi. He said the chef didn’t cut it very well so it felt like he was biting a chuck of fish but it was very fresh LOLThe white jelly was almond and the brow was plum. We liked the almond one but the plum was we didn’t enjoy as much. I feel like it’s a flavor that older people would enjoy haha.Overall, great experience and the staff were super friendly and interested where we were from since we spoke minimum mandarin. We definitely come back if we are back in Taiwan!
MoreVery nice Japanese style restaurant. We ordered the grilled eel (鰻魚as a set with a miso soup, a small salad, a steamed egg and three pieces of sashimi. Everything was super tasty and the staff was really friendly. We definitely will come here again :)
MoreLove the food in umeko. Great service and large portion were served. Fantastic service and everyone was consistenly accommodating. price is reasonable. Will recommend to friends . ordered eel rice. Tempura. Gyoza. Beef rice. They even gave my dad special soup when they found out we are celebrating dads 80th bday
MoreA very nice place to enjoy your Japanese style dinner. I ordered a grilled eel rice box, sashimi and salade....the ingredients are very fresh and tasty. As dessert I got a bowl of Umeko jelly for free...love it!!!
MoreVery nice Japanese cuisine. They have a branch directly opposite that serves Taiwanese cuisine - external decorations is very similar.
MoreIntimate setting with very friendly service staff. They could have told me I over ordered but its OK. The grilled cod fish was amazing.
MoreFriendly staff. Most menu items in English and staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Eel is great and so is Sushi, cooked fish etc. Seems to be affiliated with Umeko across the road.
MoreChanced upon this restaurant while walking around the are. The grilled eel rice is their specialty and it is good. The eel is grilled nicely and tender. The sauce is not overpowering, just nice with the grilled eel and rice. The serving staff is extremely helpful and friendly so the dining experience is great.
MoreI had the set menu and it was delightful, they have an English menu and the waitress explained the options to me. The service is very efficient and the staff are very attentive. I really enjoyed the food, the flavours were great and I was full by the end of it.
MoreNice food and great place to chill. But the cawanmushi can be improve. Nice set of beer with Edamame
MoreVery very nice Japanese restaurant. The food is delicious and the menu is amazing. They also have a combined menu including starters, main dish, dessert etc at a very good price. The stuff is very kind, and by contrast to the restaurants in the city, if keeps open until late.
MoreNot easy to park. You would better get here on foot. Unagi is not fat enough. Not so tasty. Service is good.
MoreExcellent service and food served. The staff were very hospitable even though we had difficulty understanding the menu. Quality of the Japanese food is without a doubt top notch. Will definitely return when visiting Taiwan again.
MoreThe Japanese restaurant is located just opposite the Taiwanese cuisine restaurant, both with the same name.Highly recommend the unagi Don - unagi was succulent and grilled to perfection. The friendly staff also recommended the grilled cheesy hotate, which turned out to be one of the best decisions we made. Their sashimi slices were thick and fresh, although slightly pricey. The staff also served us complimentary desserts after the meal, which was a pleasant surprise.Overall, great service and food 👏
MoreVery nice food and freshing.
Amazing authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Met the super friendly May-Tze herself, made us feel like home.
MoreThe dining experience my friends and I had at Umeko was first rate! The staff were very friendly and attentive and every ingredient in every dish was fresh and delicious. We started with a sashimi platter of fresh lobster and tuna. Fantastic. The courses just kept coming after that and each seemed to be even better than the last. Squid balls, calamari, red snapper, all just truly delightful. I cant recommend this restaurant highly enough. If youre in Taipei, you have to try this place.
MoreWow what a fantastic dinner! Great and friendly service. We had them plan the dishes and everything was spot on perfect.
MoreHad the most amazing meal in Taipei! The food was some of the best Ive ever had! And the best hospitality! You should definitely have a meal here if you are in town!
MoreThe flavor of Taiwan food is good. We liked the oysters stir fried with spring onions and black beans sauce, sliced Taiwan sausages with Garlic shoots , and the fried morning glory ( green leaves veggies ). The congee was not up to my standard. The portion is kind of small compares to what was showed in the menu. A little bit over priced.Excellent service !
