Umai - Japanese restaurant in Dhaka, Bangladesh
A fine dining restaurant of Japanese cuisine. Nice & cozy. Quality food.
Good Restaurant in Dhaka City For Japanese Cosine
Food is okay. Too hyped. Pretty expensive and not value for money. Better to try Kyoshi for Japanese food.Sushi and Maki rolls are so tiny in size!
Parking: First thing first. Does not have any dedicated parking like most of other restaurants in Gulshan areas. But it will not create any problem because on street parking is available with security. So, if your car is self driven, do not hesitate to visit.Would have given 5 star if price was less. We had a dine in for dinner. Restaurant was quiet compared to others during the Eid vacations. The service was good. We ordered a platter which they called “chicken teriyaki” and one special umai soup. Food tastes was awesome. Very good interior.
Great place for asian food. Really liked their ambiance. So cool and aesthetic. Ordered a few maki rolls, calamari, ramen and a chicken teriyaki bento box. Food was very nice and fresh. Their service were pretty outstanding and friendly.
They have good quality Sushi. I like their Salmon Avocado Salad
I love this placeI love the low lit ambianceI love the waiter’s serviceI love the standard of foodI love Umai.PARKING IS A BIT OF A PROBLEM THOUGH. Roadside parking and not always available.
Recommended BUT...**would have given it a 5 ⭐ if it wouldnt have been for their POOR SERVICE REGARDING CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.We were given a two seater small table, which seemed inadequate for the order we made. On asking TWICE for a change, one of the waiter directly said NO very impolitely whereas the whole restaurant was deserted till then. However, as we wanted to speak to the manager about this issue, once we were done dinning and was about to leave, another waiter apologized and said we would have been provided with another table if we only had asked! 😆 **AMBIANCE:Separated into three dining halls of different sizes from cosy to moderate. Beautiful instrumental music played at the background which made a great pair with the continuous white sound of flowing water from a fountain installation. Height of the dining halls are quite low but impressively handled by open ceiling exposing the service conduits. JAPANESE STYLE MINIMALISTIC INTERIOR.FOOD:The food was too good. Authentic taste with fresh ingredients. Salmon sashimi, bamboo shoot ramen noodles soup, grilled squid was ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Even the wasabi relish and sweetened ginger complimented the dishes beautifully.PORTION SIZE:Small to moderateHYGIENE:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Toilets were clean. They threw away the soya sauce which they served us after we were done, how it should be.PRICE:Upper range but value for money!
Good place to spend time😜Service was 10/10🔥Their Tuna nigiri was best🔥Prawn tempura roll was also so yammy🤤Drink (🍷was 10/10💥Dessert was 10/10 too💥They welcomed us with drink (🍻)Let me tell you the interesting thing. They offered us miso soup for no cost ( Not applicable for everybody 🙂)
The food is very good. Ambiance is also nice. But Bathroom there lots of space for development..specially cleanliness..we not expact this from such a hood resturent..
**RECOMMENDED**Gave 3* but the restaurant is worth the recommendationAMBIANCE: lets be honest, people, who are no longer under 30, are definitely looking for quieter places in Dhaka, right? This restaurant will serve you this. Its a small place but has a very good ambiance. Spaces can be a little too tidy but neatly done.*What i didnt like is I wanted a bigger table as the table was small and I was really struggling with the food and plates on the table, they simply refused to move me to a bigger table even though it was available and the restaurant was practically empty. I asked twice. Third time when I complained about it, one waiter said if I asked for it they could arrange but the other waiter said table was reserved which was a lie. there was no reservation and a random two people then occupied it.*FOOD: Food is excellent I must say.sashimi was good, so was the octopus 🐙 and squid 🦑 fry. Not chewy like the way other restaurants serve. Tasted real good and flavorsome. Ramen was brilliant and drinks was good too. Even the soaked ginger and the wasabi they serve was real good. Im going there again.PRICE: price is okay compared to quality of the food. They certainly will not serve generous amount of food against price, but I couldnt complain either.
Food and people are very good. Price is high. But environment is good.
Enjoyed a single dine in experience with a lavish bento box. It was fulfilling and expensive ofcourse. But enjoyed the salmon teriyaki. Prawn tempura not so good, feels more like beer battered prawn.
A fancy joint for sushi. Little yet calm with decent Interior. Food and service both up to the mark.
THIS IS LIKE MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT NOW. I LOVE THE MENUS, ESPECIALLY THE CROQUET. ITS JUST SO DELISH. THE BEEF RAMEN,THE BENTO BOXES, SUSHI AND SASHIMIS WERE AWESOME. WORTH THE PRICE. SERVICE WAS AMAZING. WORKERS WERE REALLY INFORMATIVE. (Wish I could add pictures but was so into the food forgot to take shots haha)
Good food with great service. Nice and cozy place for a dinner. I found the interior very soothing with calming music & water sounds from the fountain. Like it and would recommend. After Izumi this is best Japanese restaurant in town. Let me know if you have any other recommendations for Japanese food. Thanks🤞🏾
Nice ambience. Food wasnt the best Japanese food I had, but it wasnt bad either. Definitely check it out, might have a different experience.
I feel like this place is a little over hyped. Sushi is good but the torched salmon belly is really good (must try)!
A restaurant focused on Japanese dishes , service and ambiance is good enough. We liked the sashimi and appetizers but mains were below our expectations. Can try out.
Food quality is insane. We tried Sushi, Shshimi, Ramen and more. Every one of those items were taste very good. They have a nice interior. There is one down side which is price but after eating those items we totally forgot the price 😂
its a great place to try japanese cuisine
The sushi and prawn tempura was really delicious! However the Udon could be improved massively.
Mouthwatering food (trust me on this! Too good!)Nice ambiencePrice is on the higher side, so cannot visit every now and then :(The waiter was very friendly. He offered complimentary miso soup 😄Overall great experience! Recommended
If you want to have authentic Japanese cuisines experience, you can visit this place in Gulshan. Theyve been in business for 7 years but this was my first experience. I loved the decor, & the staff were friendly.
Overpriced but the food is great.
This is my second time going to UMAI . The first time was a good experience however this second time was quite different . The food was okay. The Salmon Carpaccio was fantastic . The sushi rolls could be better but it wasn’t bad . The entree’s were good too.. My husband and I liked ours can’t really vouch for the others. Our dinner however was ruined by awful music . It was around 10:30 when a Happy Birthday song comes on the sound system on repeat followed by random nursery rhymes and it goes on for a while .After a while, we repeatedly asked them to stop playing the songs but they didn’t . I eventually got up to go to talk to the waiter and He says sorry I cannot ask them to turn it off , they are the owners and they are very powerful Gulshan club members . I m like what? Who cares ? This is a restaurant with paying customers, why does it matter ? He is like toh ki? Apnara chara aar kono group nai. How rude . We are still paying customers aren’t we ?After a good 30 mins, their activities that required these songs were done and random Japanese music began to play again. The waiter then made it a point to come to my father and say dekhen gaan change kore disi as if they did it just because we asked them too. Anyways, it was an highly unusual experience which I really didn’t expect from a place like UMAI .
Absolutely loved their Sushi. The pricing of the food was fare. The staffs were good and efficient. Loved the ambiance and the decor of the restaurant.
The place is very cozy. The ambience is nice. The service is way better than other similar restaurants. The major disadvantage is its lack of parking space. Therefore, it is difficult for the self-drive diners. The menu is more or less fine, though a bit of Bangladeshi influence is visible in some of the dishes. I liked Sashimi.
Most of the items are good. However, the ambience is lacking a bit, for a fine dining place.
Cozy place for friends and family with good location. Although parking remains an issue but somehow manageable. On the contrary staffs are polite , courteous and helpful. At the entrance water fountain and soothing sound certainly one would like. Must appreciate the highest level of cleanliness which seldom I observed in other restaurant. Food taste is moderate and not very sure which one to recommend. May be bit pricey but location, standard and maintenance may demand so.
Great meals with polite staffs in clean restaurant. As Japanese, I enjoyed having foods here. Meal portions are slightly more than expected, but worth the price.
I love the ambience and the food is really good . I love their lavish bento
Way to expensive. Food taste is okay i guess, but definitely not something that will make you wow.
I went there watching a vlog of Petuk Couple. The food was average but Ebi Mayo, Orange Juice & Coconut ice cream was just awesome. And I tried Ramen for the first time and it was good though. But I had Sushi that Chinese is better than Japanese because I think Sushi & Ramen are bothers 😀I rate this #Umai 7/10
Undoubtedly the best Japanese cuisine in Dhaka! Amazing service, good ambiance and good food!
Ok, if you want to have some authentic Japanese food in Dhaka, Umai is preferred than others. Price is reasonable in context of their quality and service. Good place for having dinner in a quiet and comfortable environment.
Ive gone hear several times, and food the fantastic and so is the ambiance and aesthetic of the place. Its a very nice place and the sushi that they serve is a wide range variety of flavours. They serve more than just that and its all good. I greatly recommend a visit here.
Great a place. Food is very good. Service is good. Nice decorations. No parking available. Must park on No-parking road. Only downside is cost, highly overpriced.
Umai a Japanese RestaurantI would have given them one more star if the price was reasonable. The taste of the food is amazing but the overall price is way too high. They provide complimentary welcome drinks. Dont have parking area and wheelchair accessible entrance. But will definitely recommend this place if you want to pay a good price for you food.
Its a great place for othentic Japanese food and for hang out.
Highly recommend, restaurant was clean and food was really good. But its very expensive.
Incredible place for Japanese food. Dont suggest to all except for the people who like chinese or Japanese food.
The ambience is classy and beautiful. But the seats may feel a little congested. The food is really good. They probably has the best sushi in town. This (2018ramadan is the first time I have tried their food. The ramadan platter was filling and the quality was well maintained. The prices may seem a little steep but the quality of food, service and ambience appropriate for it.
Just stopped by for a quick lunch here. It was my first time. I really liked the decor. It wasnt too busy and the staffs seem very attentive. Love their welcome drink & the complementary soup. The food quality is very good, excellent choice of great Japanese selection. Not too expensive, but not cheap.
My favourite place when it comes to bento box. the price are quite pricey but still satisfied bcoz of the taste. Haha
Soothing place to have romantic dinner. Their coconut ice cream is top notch
Great Place and Yummy Food. Highly recommended for the Sushi lovers!
Very good japanese food served here. Also the ambience is cool too.
The best place you can go to for Authentic Japanese cuisine.
Quite & calm place to enjoy Japanese foods. Bit expensive though compared to the taste of the food. However, I liked the interior decoration of the restaurant.
