We happened upon this taverna by accident. We were out for a drive in the mountains and having hit 3 dead ends, were back on the correct road to Chania. We drove by and had to stop, we were so glad we did. The service was excellent and the food delicious. The host came to see us (Archontissa I thinkand enjoyed a glass of raki with us. I highly recommend this taverna and we will definitely be back😁

Sunday lunch: Fabulous food, service, and views.

We visited this restaurant an hour before its closing. Even though I told the owners that we will eat quickly and leave before closing, they told us that we should not worry about the time at all and just enjoy our food! We essentially had the whole place booked for ourselves! The hosts (Mr. Manolis and Ms. Antoniaare extremely warm people. I almost felt like I was invited to my relatives for dinner! The view in unbeatable. It really gives you a sense of serenity and peace. As a side, the journey to get up to the mountain is also well worth it.Regarding food, its extremely tasty and portions are beyond generous! We got the "katsiki tsigaristo" (which essentially means goat cooked in oil and wineand zucchini meatballs (kolokithokeftedesand kolokithoanthous. "Tsigaristo" was amazing and is supposed to be a delicacy in Western Crete. So its a must! Kolokithokeftedes and kolokithoanthoi were also very tasty and even though they were appetizers, their portions were so big we felt bad we couldnt finish them... Ms. Antonia kept checking with us to make sure that we were enjoying our food. All of the food was prepared by her. Mr. Manolis lent me his jacket, because it was a bit chilly. At for the end, they served us raki (made by Mr. Manolis grapesand desserts by Ms. Antonia. Dessert serving is usually on the house in Crete. We almost ended up staying an hour after the "official" closing. Totally recommend this establishment. The view, the food, the value for money, the owners superb hospitality all combine to give you a really memorable experience. I will certainly come back when Im back to Chania.

It was a long way in the mountains but it was worth it. The view is incredible and the service was great. The pork with honey and lamb from the oven were delicious. We will come back for sure !!

We had some wonderful lunches and dinners in restaurant Tzaneris&Archontissa! The panorama-view is enchanting and the taste of the dishes wonderful. Wonderful place in the mountains. The homemade food is to die for and the hosts are making sure you are welcomed and have a memorable experience.

One of the best experiences weve had in Crete. Home cooked food that makes you feel like Crete is home, complimented by lovely welcoming hosts that go out of their way to make sure their guests are happy. If I could give 6 stars i would not hesitate. Location is a bit out of the way the road into the hills is long and winding but the scenery is beautiful and I would drive twice as much if needed. Definitely returning here.

The food and service where very good, and the owners where lovely people! Even when they have a wedding to go to, they still receive you and feed you!

Excellent... if you are looking for great traditional cretan food which is not within the tourist areas then this is a must. The portions were massive and the food great, all the items on the menu were explained to us so we were able to make the best chose, we thought the food wouldnt stop coming at one point we even ended up taking a meals worth home. All this along with a stunning view over the valley and a very welcoming atmosphere. Spot on!

My young family of four had a wonderful experience last night at Tzaneris & Archontissa. A true family run tabepna that serves locally sourced produce at very reasonable prices, and always with a smile. Homemade breads and wines on offer, alongside plates of chicken, goat, vegetables - and the plates just kept coming. We have meat in our fridge this morning that we just could not finish last night despite our best efforts.The wonderfully hospitable family team (at least four generations present I believecatered for our needs and helped my own family create a memorable evening together.Of course, the view from the dining balcony just adds to the experience as it can only be described as breathtaking.

One of the best places to enjoy real and I mean it real cretan cuisine. With such a friendly service. With a breath taking view. Definitely recommending it.

Great views and great food at a good price. Very generous portions. I had a lovely piece of pork. It was very busy since we visited on a national holiday but the waiting times were still fair.

Its also a relatively close, yet beautiful, drive into the Cretan countryside.

The food and the service was excellent. They use local fresh vegetables, cheeses and meats. The food is cooked in clay pots in a wood oven. Everything was cooked slowly to perfection using authentic Cretan recipes. The food is homemade by the owner’s wife following traditional Cretan recipes. Highly recommend the trip there with views over the city. Worth the drive! 😋

Perfect food! Serving certified Cretan Cuisine, this place is a must see if youre not too afraid to drive. The bread and olives compliment each other well and the zucchini pie is amazing 👏

The best authentic, traditional cretan restaurant. The food was amazing!! You should definitely try the "Tsigariasto" and the cretan salad, they were finger-licking good!!It is worth it to visit the island of Crete, just to eat at this taverna.

Amazing food for a very fair price. The view on the mountains you have when sitting on the terrace is even better than the food. I recommend getting the goat stew as its a traditional dish that is not served in many restaurants, and the meat is very tender.

Great food and service for a very reasonable price. The portions are huge, so unless you have a huge appetite one dish is probably enough for two with a salad on the side. Recommended.

I had very high expectations from this restaurant based on other reviews but when I visited it disappointed. We were served one of their signature dishes, lamb cooked in the traditional wood oven but it landed on the table visibly dry and inedible. Whether it was the previous days or roasted for too long I could not be sure but under no circumstances would it be served by other Cretan restaurants I visited. In fairness the other dishes tasted good, the dish removed from the bill and the cook brought more tender pieces of lamb on the house. But the incident left a bitter taste in our mouths as we travelled some distance to reach the restaurant. I hope the restauranteur has learnt a lesson and realised that customers are very discerning and unforgiving when let down badly.

Wonderful cretan family restaurant placed on a cliff with amazing view. Everything we tasted especially from the wooden oven was extraordinary. I would highly recommend the lamb and the pork with honey. Also the meat and leak pie was amazing. You should definitely visit. You can combine it with a beautiful walk around the area and surrounding villages. Also I cannot describe the kindness of the staff and owner. Super satisfied

Drove upp in the mountains an afternoon and found this enjoyable family Taverna. Very good homemade food and nice family.I can recommend a trip to this taverna with genuine cretan food. I will come back The next time Im visit Crete.

The service was great, the mom cooked food was amazing. Also the knowledge of other parts in Greece was really appreciated. The meat and leek pie was amazing also the honey mustard pork was so tender and tasty you could cut it with your fork.

Everything was very good. Tavern location in deep mountains. Surrounding view and nature is very beautiful. And the food is what it should be and is clue of this place. They have wood oven where they prepare food. Also many ingredients is from local farmers. Especially meet. I was trying long cooked goat and it was really outstanding. I was not expecting goat can be so good.Portion are really big also. I would recommend this place with all my heart. Worth to spend time driving here.
