Typsy Monk Bar - Bar in Perth, Australia
Every seat is reserve we only stayed an hour so they accommodated us. Second time same might not go back for while.
Great spot - really feels like a local hangout for the community, which is a nice change. Wish there was a bit of music in the background to add some ambience thats all.
Nice laidback atmosphere, nice pizza. Friendly staff and management. Will go again.
Top Class!Perfect for any occasionFriendly and courteous staffReasonable prices $$Good menu and variety of drinks. Try one of their cocktails, they are a must.Worth the visit, but book on a Wednesday night, its their quiz night.
Nice hipster bar with good range of share plates, craft beers and cocktails on offer.Short winelust is well priced.Worth a visit
A quaint little bar hidden away in South Perth, which may not look like much, but really delivers. Not only are the food and happy our specials something to look forward to, but the staff are always incredibly easy to deal with. Never had a bad experience!
Has promise. Nice environment but staff so slow we were going to time it took to make our drinks or longer still to make meals, with a CALENDAR
This place is fantastic. First time here and will be coming back again.Alex is so friendly and smiley. Food is fantastic. Would highly recommend the sticky date pudding.Theyve done the "industrial aesthetic" perfectly, with proper accents of warmth with the exposed metal and brickwork. The atmosphere is cosy with all black roof and muted walls, with a beautiful plant-feature wall, yet well lit. Music is the perfect volume; enough to fill the gaps but you dont have to talk loudly to hear each other.Perfect for large groups as they have lots of seating, and also perfect for a quick coffee or cocktail in their comfy, low chairs around coffee tables.
Usually fantastic but today the ac wasnt working and it was uncomfortably hot inside. Thankfully drinks were cold and food was delicious.
What an amazing experience, the venue is fantastic, the service second to none and the food was fabulous. I highly recommend this place and will definitely return there.
Good place to get together with friends. A variety of local beer on tap. Bar snacks, food & staff present well.
Pleasant place but not handling COVID-19 issue well. To enter one has to pass within inches of people that insist in sitting beside the door. The simple solution would be to remove the stools in that area.
Duty manager Saturday night. People dont like a know it all that shows no respect. Ease up young man and you may find more custom. Do your job, with pride, not a lousy attitude.
If youre looking for a quiet cívilised drink with friends with a bit of ambience, then this place will do it for you. Its gorgeous hanging lights and attentive bar staff make it extra special and by the looks of their weekly specials, it has you set almost every night of the week.
This place is a good venue, with good drinks and food. But, why is it always so very short staffed? It’s as if the venue operators would prefer not to make a profit. How about liaising with the local community when events are happening and putting staff on to serve?! It’s not hard.
Staff was annoying, I ordered a Gin & Tonic, the taste was bitter. I asked staff to change it for me but he was very rude and make excuses, and said you ordered that. I will charge you for the fresh one. But the issue was the lime he used for the drink. He didn’t care to my request and very frustrated for me.I do not recommended this place.😞😞
Went in with a small group and decided to share some food and a couple of drinks. Decided for pizza and oysters to be told they had run out of both. Apparently it was our fault as we came in late as informed by the waiter. Checked with waiter to make sure that there were no other items we couldnt order only to be told that the 1st choice we made was also not available. Very incompetent. In the end the food that we did manage to order was nice but not great.Good to see a local suburban bar in the area, that is a great idea though it will be some time before I would consider a return.
Pretty cool little place, there are a number of weekly specials including drinks and a Happy Hour, pizzas are also tasty. The bar has decent beers on tap and a good cocktail list. The free quiz night is worth attending, pretty casual and unintimidating.
The Typsy Monk used to be Hopscotch, for those who went there. I really like this bar. The wine list is good, the food list is varied. We had the prosciutto pizza with gluten-free base - it was lovely! Next time youre in South Perth, pop in and have a tipple at the Typsy Monk :)
Service was terrible. There was no chicken or vegetarian option on the menu. They didnt have everything on the menu available (there was only 6 mains). The food was fabulous though, but not enough for me to go back.NB. This review was for the previous establishment Hopscotch.
Food was good but smaller on the serving side for the price charged. We had 3x Aperol Spritz that was very watery and flat and not worth the $15 charged for each. Im not sure of procedures but we had to order from the bar as no table service. Also you have to watch your dishes as mine was taken while i was getting another drink and I hadnt fully finished. Enough wrongs to say we wont be back.
Wonderful service and staff! The food was delicious and customer service was excellent, the bar staff were extremely friendly and when one of our meals took a little longer than expected to come out, they offered us a round of free drinks and took some $ off our bill! Will definitely be back here :)
Visited Monday. Not the normal barman we get on the weekend. Service was average. He did the job but seemed disinterested. The bar service was passable though. The real let down was how slow the kitchen was. We waited well over 30 minutes for 3 tapas meals and 1 child meal. The worst thing was 2 tables that came in after us and ordered after us but they were served with their food first despite us having already waited a long time. Many of them were the same meals as ours also! So it wasnt because our food took longer to prep. This kind of queue jumping caused by the kitchen totally annoys me and makes me not want to return. If I order first I should get my food first. The food tasted OK but my wife who went a couple of weeks ago (on a Fridaysaid the food tasted much better when she visited on the Friday. Maybe there was a different cook on the roster then. So in summary, theyre inconsistent due to different staff. They have the potential to be good. My wife enjoyed her Friday visit but I did not enjoy my Monday visit. My suggestion is go on a busy night when the good staff are on.I will adjust my review next time I visit.
Nice places, good food, good drinks
My wife and I wanted to try the Typsy Monk since it changed from its previous format. We had a disappointing start with having to wait over 5 minutes to place out order. Waiter apologized as he had a call from his manager and did not feel that we could make him wait for a customer (me).Wait service continued in this haphazard manner. Food was very nice and the gluten free pizza for my wife was great. My ribs were excellent too. Unfortunately we finished off with an awful flat white each (Only worth 2 stars). My wife could not finish hers. I was able to as I dosed mine up with extra sugar. So if you do visit the Typsy Monk, be patient and dont order the coffee.
After seeing some good reviews I decided to have 10 friends for a luncheon here. Biggest mistake.. Appalling service, the cocktails were shocking and the food cold and tasteless. I was so embarrassed and apologised to my friends for choosing such a terrible place. Will never set foot in there again. Shame, as the venue is really nice.
Tha ambiance here is very chill and relaxing and the food was excellent, rumpsteak medium rare with tasty salad. Pricing was good, will definitely come again.Thank you Tipsy Monk ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Arrived to find a piece of paper taped to the door indicating the bar would open at 4:00pm. We came back at 4:00 and note had been changed to 4:30pm. We managed to catch the attention of a staff member who came to the door and told us he was not sure when the bar would open. He was quite rude and did not offer any apologies for the inconvenience. This bar does not rate at all!
Pizza was flavourless, service was slow and chips were cold. Staff was unhelpful and unfriendly. Hopscotch was much better. Wont go again.
Nice little bar with a relaxing ambience.Good choice of drinks available & reasonably priced. Bartender & manager was quite friendly. Will definitely come back for a drink real soon!
Excellent I have been to this place many times before under other names and theyve never quite been able to get the atmosphere or get it right but these people have got it perfect and its great Vibe nice open area lots of good places to sit great little tapas type meals if you want and good priced wine and beer not like last time when they completely overpriced everything
Extremely disappointing. Service for drinks was very slow and the food we ordered, three dishes, came out more than 10 minutes apart and some food was cold.
Set amongst a leafy South Perth street lies this suburban gem - every day and night of the week, they serve-up delicious eats and a great selection of drinks in a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe. Stop in on Tuesday for half price pizza - the chorizo and lamb are both amazing options!! We love this place - highly recommended for groups or date night!
Went for an early dinner 27/02 with my 10 year old daughter, I had Fish and Chips (Snapper), very good serve $20, was the best fish and chips I have had for ages. Daughter had Spaghetti Napolitana from the Kids Menu $10 very nice as well. Very nice setting and the beer selection is very good. Happy hour $5 for beer and wine between 5 and 6. Also has Tapas and Pizzas.
Picture this, here I am, wandering around South Perth, and I find this swanky looking place on Angelo Street. Sure it looks like its full of one uppers who wouldnt neck a Swan Draught if their life depended on it, but thought wed give it a crack. Ready to wet our whistle we rock up to the fine timber bar, only to be met by possibly the most sour and angry bar chick Ive ever seen. While our beers were successfully poured and drank, the sourness of her attitude has long lingered in my mind and will further deter me from returning to this watering hole. Solid 1/10, would not recommend.
Only had One drink... still dont know enough about the place..paid with card so not sure of prices.. ambience is nice...can hear each other talk.. probably go again
For all.you Chicken Wing lovers...get some in ya from here. They are a wonderful tasty joyous plate of satisfaction! And are a bargain! Lovely accompaniment to a Prossecco.
Bar staff blamed us to move the table without noticing them. still felt like that why we would have to do becuase it is her duty to deliever the right food to the right people. And even she did not gave us number sign. We got the food in the end, but it was surely an unpleasant experience which may hinder me and even my friends from visiting there again.
Food was average, we ordered a pizza and calamari. My wine sat on the bench for 20 minutes until I asked and the lady at the bar said that she left it there. She didnt say that she was going to leave it there, she didnt bother checking if I collected it. Important to note that the place wasnt busy.Negative first visit. Will give it another go hoping that it was only a bad night
My wife made a booking for dinner for 2, calling in personally 60 minutes beforehand, and was assured of a quiet table in the corner. When we arrived, not only were we ignored for at least 10 minutes - when we were “served” we were, in no uncertain terms, told that they don’t take reservations. This was repeated twice, despite our assertions that the waiter directly behind her was in fact the person that had taken the booking. There were no apologies or acknowledgement that someone had got it wrong nor were we offered any other option - my wife and I went to Hopscotch about a year ago and had a lovely night - sadly something appears to have gone wrong with at least some of the staff. My wife and I both work in customer service industries - first rule of thumb - look after the customer - they pay the bills! It goes without saying we took our money elsewhere that night!
Just had a beautiful Sunday breakfast, we had the breakfast spring rolls and breakfast sushi bowl.... they were both very delicious and we just love the whole atmosphere here. The staff are lovely as well 😁💕
The bar south perth needs....and yet its not quite there. Probly needs an outdoor area. Anyway a great drink range, frequently have interesting spirits and rotate the tap beers frequently....deserves to do better. Food menu a bit nothing-ish. But as good as other local pubs in quality. Recently trying weekend breakfasts again which we will try out in support.
Looks a nice place, maybe we were unlucky, but the coffee was .... less that good. The cheese board, well, underwhelming for the price.Like the look and the atmosphere though. Most likely will be back to give it another chance
Good to see that hopscotch is now serving pints at last at a reasonable cost. The good food samples given to the customers were excellent. We are locals and will be back on a regular basis.
Love Sunday nights here! $10 pizzas that are absolutely delicious! Not to forget the pork belly which is to die for! Great atmosphere to boot 😊😊
Food and service was excellent! Friendly staff made the experience even better! Wine selection is brilliant! Definitely worth spending a Sunday with friends 👌🏼
Food is amazing, service is professional and friendly, atmosphere is perfect for an intimate dinner or drink with friends. Definitely worth the drive (from NORand price.
Our local every Friday afternoon, this up market bar in the heart of South Perth is a welcomed addition to our neighbourhood!A really fine selection of Whisky (and Whiskeys), wines and very enjoyable tappas style food to nibble on while you relax after a long hard week. The staff are warm and friendly, and they get to know your drinking tastes. Theres always a new whiskey available for me to try almost every week as they know Im partial to a great dram.
Great place for a drink on the weekend. Plenty of atmosphere and vibe for a new establishment and always busy on weekends. Finally something on Angelo Street trying to set itself apart.
This is a new establishment. Thought Id better check it out.Overall, was quite impressed. We had a couple of the share plates - pork belly and jamon. Both very, very good.Only had one beer but noted that the beers available, and the wine list, should have something to appeal to everyone. The bar also looks like it can deal with a wide range of requests for cocktails etc.I would recommend stopping in for a look.
