Tule Lake Relocation Center - Monument in Klamath Falls, United States
NPS should erect a small visitor center and museum as Tule Lake was the worst of the worst for Japanese Interment Camps. A roadside plaque from the state does not do it justice.
I have a storage yard in the flying goose as us natives call it
Where my parents met. Dad was in Cambell. Ca. Mom was in San Francico. Before meeting in camp. They raised 5 kids. The oldest was killed in Vietnam 1969.
Hard to give high rating to this facility where Americans of Japanese descent were held. But, because it was a true event it is important to not forget
American Excellency
Educational and historical
I am a history buff. I especially have a tremendous desire to learn about the history of the parents of friends of mine, friends of my parents and in an indirect way part of the past that even to this day affects me. While there is not much there to help envision what it was like 75 years ago, it is up to you to feel the power of standing where 18,000+ Japanese Americans were incarcerated behind barbwire.
super historical and the committee is amazing. love going there.
Buen lugar te atienden bien y muy limpio
Really cool but in the middle of nowhere.
Fascinating and well built out road side museuem. A must see for those passing through. It shines a spotlight on a dark side of the nations history and xenophobia that echoes through to the present. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.
The pilgrimage to Tule Lake Segregation Camp was life altering. Recommend the experience for everyone.
Not much there. Suppose to be a museum in town.
The directions were useless. Go to the Visitor Center at the Fairgrounds. Everything begins there.
Muy agradable
Amazing, horrifying, and tragic. The guide/attendant was great, gave a lot of good info including how he became connected with the site. Very worthwhile visit.
Great security, not a lot large selection of food and the staff can be a little aggressive. Over all great views if you are into gated communities....
#NeverAgainisNow
Awesome, moving experience. We should never forget how our country illegally set aside the Constitutional Rights of thousands of U. S. born American citizens, and not allow it to happen again.
This is a heart-breaking place. The largest of the 10 concentration camps in the US during World War 2. it was approximately 7000 acres and held nearly 20,000 Japanese-Americans that broke no laws but answered "incorrectly" on a skewed questionnaire.
Visited as part of tule lake pilgrimage. An important part of American history.
A place that reminds all of us of the atrocities that happened to American citizens in WWII. Very powerful to see the expansive land where 18,000 civilians were jailed only for their ancestry. Theres only a plaque right now, but the jail is being restored currently and a visitors center planned for the future.
This was an intense experience. The tour guide was amazing and hearing the stories and emotions of the survivors and their families was truly humbling. We must preserve these places to never forget what happened.
This is barren, sobering place, now little more than a vacant field with a plaque and a weathered sign. A lifelong residentl told us that all of the building materials had been taken by locals and used in the construction of their homes. This is also an area right at the center of the ongoing court battles over allocation of waters of the Klamath River, the interests of fish and fishermen, farmers and crops, wildlife refuges and the annual bird migrations
Not much left. But there is some great history here. Lots of volcanic scenery.
Tranquilo lugar
This place is being used by a San Francisco based group to cause harm to local businesses rather than to educate the public.
The tour was very informative and they had pictures and letters and experiences for us to look at. The jail is preserved. The museum had original artifacts and a barrack to look at!
Cannot access site due to being locked out by a chain linked fence. How ironic. Only a few structures are left standing/restored.
Simple memorial to an important moment in our history. Remember what really happened to fellow citizens. No, you can not clean this page from our past. Visit Manzinar south of Bishop, CA for a detailed look at this time.
It is kind of sad to see how run down this place looks. All thats there is a sign explaining the history of the internment camps. Better than nothing, though. Its important to remember our nations history, both good and bad.
