Tucumcari KOA Journey - in Tucumcari, United States
Let’s start off with breakfast. Homemade breakfast delivered right to your campsite! Everything cooked perfect. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. They also give you fresh baked cookies when you arrive! There are wild cats running around, they are timid but might come to you if you do not crouch down.Campground is clean, gravel but clean. Beautiful scenery by our campsite. Very quiet as well. The best dinner place we found was Dels and it is not very far from KOA.Highly recommended.
We appreciate beautiful, clean and well tended parks like John and Cindys KOA. They were both super accommodating and placed us next to the playground for our toddler to enjoy and even offered a fresh homecooked breakfast as an add on. Delicious! They also went out of their way to help us look for our cat when he stayed out exploring their grounds. We highly recommend if youre passing through!
Originally meant to be a one-night stay, we extended our stay a day because the winds were too strong to safely continue our journey, and they had no trouble accommodating us. The campground is right off of Route 66, and close enough to I-40 to see the traffic go by, but the road noise wasn’t bad. With the exception of the interior roads surrounding the office building area, the roads are a mix of dirt and gravel. Most of the sites have gravel pads with grass lawns; the back row has concrete pads. All of the sites have picnic tables, and most if not all have BBQ grills. Many of the sites have adjacent trees that provide some shade. We positioned ourselves on the far left side of the pad in site 16 to ensure our living room slide didn’t get close to the one tree. The hookups are in a typical spot, but we did share the power pole and water spigots with the adjoining site: most of the pull-through sites in the first two rows are buddy sites. Our site did have a cable TV hookup, but they were between cable providers at the time so it was non-functional. We were able to pick up a few digital TV channels (mostly PBSwith our antenna. The campground has most of the typical KOA amenities. There is a small convenience store attached to the office with milk, sodas, snacks, some camping supplies and souvenirs. The same building also contains bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. Next to the office building is a kid’s playground, the pool area, horseshoe pits, a shuffleboard area, and a basketball court. There is a small detached recreation room with some chairs and a pool table, and a propane refill station behind the office, though they weren’t offering refill service at the time (they recently changed ownership and I’m guessing they didn’t have anyone on staff certified to provide the service). There is an additional bathhouse at the back end of the campground. They have two fairly small dog runs next to the recreation room, and a pet walk area behind some of the tent sites, so we had no problem finding places to walk our dog. While we didn’t take advantage of it, they offer a breakfast service where you can place your order the night before and they will bring a hot breakfast (pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffeeto your site between 7am and 8am.In terms of cell service, I had a very strong Verizon signal on my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna, but pretty much 0 bandwidth. Normally when I see that, I can get decent speeds in the very early morning hours, when my hotspot is no longer competing against smartphones that get priority over the hotspot, but not here: the Verizon connection was useless at all hours. In contrast, I saw speeds of 104Mbps down and 13 up on my AT&T smartphone. We did try the campground WiFi, but it was barely useable. We would stay here again for an overnight stay if we were in the area.
Friendly staff, clean park, restrooms and showers. The only thing I noticed is the ladys facility locks on stalls and shower dont close all the way. Liked that there was grassy area, picnic tables and grills available.
Rented one of their concrete pad sites. Nice view of sunset. Laundry room adequate. Roads are gravel throughout camp. Road noise not too bad. Restaurants are nearby.
KOAs are a travelers friend. Always a place you can count on. We try to avoid them, actually, because they are often not much more than "RV parking lots" as we call them. But when you need a clean place on the main roads, they are helpful. This one was nicely arranged, sites were not too crowded. They even had breakfast service but we didnt take advantage and opted to go into town to a Route 66 diner instead.I was there the night there was a balloon maybe (?in the sky next to the moon. We talked to the staff about it the next morning. I never found anything in the news about it, so if someone from the KOA can post what it ended up being, that would be nice. Super curious!
Pleasantly surprised! Not bad at all. Under new owner and you can tell they are putting some heart into it! Very friendly gal working the counter, easy to get around the park, easy on /off I-40. Surprisingly there was even grass at each site. Made it a little easier w the dogs. Not the most level sites, but workable. You get noise off the interstate, (just as u would anywhere off I-40). They even offer a breakfast deal!
Clean location and facilities. I was a solo female traveler and felt safe. Not much for shade but a beautiful view of Mt Tucumcari. Everyone was very nice, both staff and campers. An overall wonderful visit.
Convenient, just off I 40 before. A great place to stop on a long drive into Albuquerque for Balloon Fiesta. Quiet, peaceful, shaded with all the amenities. Only drawback, no fires, but that was common with all the RV parks we stayed at out west.
Clean power and big rig friendly! Very convenient of the freeway. Nice little store with some Route 66 souvenirs.
We stayed her for one night. Nice location, far enough off main interstate that there was no traffic noise. We were told that they were booked nut had lots of empty spots. Grounds were clean. Some concrete sites, but a wide variety of sites available, including Cabins. Very small dog park. No pets allowed in any of the buildings or in the children’s play area, But there was no bench outside of the area to sit with your pet. Only certain areas had nice watered grass. They did offer breakfast delivered to your site, and it was pretty good! Nice helpful people! Would definitely stay again.
Its a KOA, level lot, they have pull throughs, full hook ups with 50 Amp 30 Amp 20 Amp, picnic tables, charcoal grill. Showers and rest rooms. Cable TV a few channels anyway. WI-FI but we didnt try it. Easy access off I-40 then turn on Route 66 very short drive, mile or so. A good stop to get the RV air-conditioning running and rest from the Arizona heat.
As stated by others this KOA is clean and taken care of, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The downside I perceived was the sites are setup facing each other which is not an issue if you are traveling with another party. But if not you do not have privacy while you are trying to relax outside. Overall a nice stop for traveling otherwise.
Great KOA, beautiful views, surprised but happy to see grass sites. The girl at check in was super pleasant and the welcoming cookies were good. Also provided breakfast delivered to our site. Recommend this campground.
For small KOA at this place surpassed my expectations very friendly with the restaurants in town they know where to go and were not to go trust them on that
Traveling through Tucumcari NM we stopped for something to eat. A couple people from the area recommended The Del. Will not be stopping there again. Disappointed.
Booked the day of, for an overnight. Arrived around 7:20pm they were still in the office and checked us in. They gave us cookies to kick off our stay which was greatly appreciated.Sites are nice, open, and spacious. Bathrooms were clean. Quiet location. Perfect overnight for my family and I.Best part is they have a breakfast delivery option at a very reasonable cost. Just fill out the slip you get upon checkin, drop it off the night before, and they come by in the AM. The food was really good - haven’t had pancakes that good in awhile. This service is exactly what RVers are looking for especially for an overnight stay!
So friendly and helpful. Most level lot we gave had in a long time. Green grass and very clean. Come stay here and help this campground out.
This is so NOT up to par for a "Journey" KOA!Website says snack bar, there is none (only a freezer with ice cream and buying chips in the store). Website says "refreshing pool and spa", there is a tiny pool that was ice cold (on Aug 23and the hot tub roped off/boarded over and looks like not in use for a looong time. Game room had a pay pool table, a small round table with a few board games, a couple chairs, and end of room blocked off with yellow caution tape. KOA Website said "newly remodeled restrooms and showers", and they look like state park facilities, trim missing. Way to expendive for bad quality!
Helpful staff. Not overly crowded. Extremely quiet. Easy access to get back on the road.
Just a one night stop on our way to Utah and when we initially pulled in we were not impressed. However, that all quickly changed. The young lady in the store was great and speaking of store, well stocked with just about anything you would need. Pool was great, two fenced in dog parks and one open area to walk your pal. Lots of space between sites. Most sites had a tree that may or may not offer shade. Picnic tables but no fire pits. Two shower/bathroom locations and the one we used was a bit dated but it was VERY CLEAN. Strong wifi and about 5-6 cable channels. They offered a delivered to your site breakfast that we utilized. While close to the highway, we were not bothered by traffic. Overall a very nice park and its not far from Tucumcari and a number of tourist attractions; The Blue Hole and the Route 66 Auto Museum. Staff were great and the park looked well maintain. Would definitely stop again if passing through the area. Verizon was three bars.
Stayed here one night heading through town. Very clean and accommodating. It was a quiet and peaceful stay. I would definitely stay here again.
We had a very nice experience there. Very nice people our water spigot was broken told office they had someone out right away to put a new one on .Frank the maintenence man went away and beyond..The owners have really fixed it up .nice Very nice people 👍
Nice park. Very friendly helpful hosts. Cookies at check-in. Breakfast delivered for a reasonable fee. Pool, playground for kids, nice laundry. Right off I-40.
$71/night partial hookups???Rv park down road 1/2 price and full hookups this place is a joke how the hell is anyone willing to pay this much?? Throwing cash out the window
It was awesome driving on Rt 66. The campground had a decent store, some souvenirs, they serve breakfast if you want. The weather was beautiful and we didnt even run the air-- in July! Easy to get to too.
We stayed at one of the cabins, which are all standard across KOAs aside from sometimes having a ceiling fan or a minifridge. It was a warm evening, so a minifridge would have been welcome, and staff turning the AC on earlier in the day would have been very helpful as well, or having a ceiling fan. It was pretty warm until late. That said, I would 100% come back here once we have a travel trailer. The sites are grassy and shaded, which is a treat compared to the fully graveled sites some places offer. We had to leave early in the morning so we couldnt take advantage of the hot breakfast, but it looked like it would be good! Bathrooms were clean, cabin was clean, views are great, and theres plenty of birdwatching to do.
We had issues with another site we had reserved in Santa Rosa and gave this location a call. It was Friday around 430pm but the staff member was able to get us a nice site. Very helpful and friendly. All of the grounds were clean and they had just reopened the pool! Kids were able to swim and play on their playground. One of the staff brought out a golf cart that pulled a little train and gave all the kids rides around the campground. It was so sweet! The kids enjoyed and it was an absolute relief to have a safe friendly place to stay after our earlier experience. Will definitely stop here again when traveling through New Mexico
Very nice overnight stay. Easy in and out. I only gave 4 stars because this is one of those places that insists on making you park facing your neighbor. Otherwise very nice.
Nice staff. Campground is kept up. Great stop over for the night. Even with it so close to the I40 the road noise is minimal. The spots get partial shade from the trees and the birds are fun to watch and listen to in the morning.
Super nice staff. It’s getting into season and this is always a great stop. We always hope to have a opportunity to stop here when planning our travels. Easy on and off but mostly a great staff.
Nice campground. They will deliver you breakfast in the am. Great pancakes and eggs.
We were very impressed with this park. It is under new ownership for seven weeks now. They went out of their way for us. Cookies when we arrived were a blessing as wed just spent 4 hours on the side of the road waiting for repair service for a blowout on our 5th wheel. In the morning they make you a really nice breakfast and deliver it to your door. The fee for this is reasonable. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks John & Cindy for being awesome hosts.
Very kind and helpful people.I40 is close, we however did not hear it at all.We liked it a lot and will stop again if in this area.
Great place for us - it was half way mark to our destination - love the long concrete pad sites - clean and they are very accommodatingEasy location off the highway - wide area’s to maneuver large rigsThank you!!!The Crims
This is a very well run KOA Journey. The staff I encountered were affable and ready to go the extra mile to please.I stayed here in a 28 ft. travel trailer.
Great stop over, easy access right off the highway. Stayed in a pull through full hook up gravel site- long enough for our 27ft MH with Jeep in tow. Super nice new owners, making improvements. Can order breakfast delivery right to your site in office or via text- Pancakes, eggs, bacon, oj and coffee for a fee, delivered from 7-8am- delicious! Would stay here again!
This KOA has an incredible view. We arrived and the pool is closed and it is June and 98 degrees. They failed to mention that on their website. We did our laundry and the washers are new, but they are small. One laundry basket needed two washers. The dryers have a sign that says they recommend you add one quarter for 5 minutes. They fail to mention that no matter how many quarters you add, the dryer will only run for 5 minutes and will then need to be restarted with another quarter. Sitting in the laundry room with no AC in this desert heat was tough. So we only ran our clothes 15 minutes. But we hung them on our picnic table and RV and they dried fast. The Rec room is a joke. No AC, a broken pool table, and smells of mold. Our campsite was flat. Water pressure was good. And we can enjoy ourselves no matter what. But they are not accurately depicting the condition of the grounds. We won’t stay here again.
Great playground areas for the kiddos, nice grassy areas around the campsite, store on the grounds, bathrooms with showers, pit and table at our campsite and quiet with beautiful surroundings. Nice place
Accommodating and mostly clean and orderly campground. It is old and the bathrooms were a bit older and could have been cleaner. The water was barely hot. New ownership (less than a monthso these things could change.
This place just came under new ownership and it seems they are trying to get things back in order. My family and I stayed one night and are traveling with two vehicles, and 5×10 cargo trailer, and pets. The owner was very accommodating and allowed us to use a RV site w/electricity even though we were using a cabin tent since we needed the extra parking space. Bathrooms and showers were clean.
Nice quiet cam right off I 40. Recently sold to new owners who seemed eager to identify areas in need of fixing up. Real nice management and a great stop over on the way through.
We like the KOA experience and the Tucumcari KOA is a great one. It is rocking a 1950s vibe in all the best ways. The highlight was the kids playground, specifically the teeter-totters. My kids 13-7 years old had a great time. My husband didnt like the sewer placement but it was a minor annoyance. When we are in the area we look forward to staying there again.
Always a good stop over spot. Clean and well organized. Also not too close to the highway so it’s quiet, but close enough that it’s easy to get to.
It’s a nice clean rustic camp ground just off the expressway. It has numerous cement full hook ups, clean, Wi-Fi, cable and nice view of the mountain. The owners are great we stayed here 3 times. I think a bigger camp ground about 5 miles away is messing with them
We have a Thor Tuscany 42RQ. Great campground and warm friendly hosts. Breakfast and dinner delivered at a good price. Even had overflow parking for our extra vehicle and utility trailer. Far enough off I-40 to barely hear the road noise. Stayed 2 nights 1st week of November. Seems like they are always working on something to improve the place. Would stay again.
Beautiful, quiet park. Spotless baths and laundry areas. Park grounds are kept very neat and clean. They offer breakfast and dinner for a fee. Very handy. We stayed in mid October in a 25ft travel trailer. The back row offers concrete pads and large sites and a beautiful view of the surrounding hills and fields. Great place.
When I called to reserve, we were told that all of the concrete pad sites were reserved but that there was a level, non-paved site with full hook-ups available. We took it. When leveling, our rear jacks sank about a foot and a half, embedding our jack blocks. The coach still wasnt level. We had to re-level several times while continuing to add to our jack pad. The coach continued to sink while we were there! The next morning the staff worked on the waterline and our water was shut off for a while. No discount offered for these inconveniences. Not on our list of favorite campgrounds!
This was a great overnight stop close to route 40. The welcome was gracious as we were escorted to our site. The unexpected wonderful surprise was the availability of take out meal delivered to our door! Our compliments to the cook on a deliciously prepared meal . Thank you for a restful night !
We had a nice stay. Friendly staff welcomed us to our spot. Level gravel sites, some with trees, all with grass. Good wifi. We appreciated the Covid awareness of the staff. Got a hot meal delivered to our door. Clean facilities. What more can you ask for!
