Trendy bar and diner in a restored 1850s synagogue with a huge beer garden, plus rooftop beehives.
Drink prices and range is fine. Outdoor dining is hit and miss in terms of where the heaters are on a cold day. Drinks take a while to come out. The biggest issue is that the smoking area isnt properly separated from the actual dining area, so the smoke permeates the entire garden with the faintest breeze.
We were staying at the Marriott next door and thought we’d try this place for breakfast, especially had it had a lot of outdoor seating. We enjoyed it and thought it offered good options. We had the corn fritters with bacon and avocado, which was good. The only comment is that there was only a small amount of avocado so they could be a bit more generous with that. The pancakes were also good, as was the coffee. They have a small kids’ menu too and offer colouring in for kids. We did have better brunches in Melbourne but this is a solid option.
Great vibe for a quick drink and a bite to eat. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available and I love the fact that you can order and pay for everything without having to leave your table thanks to ME&U
Chips were average and large enough to be a side piece for 4 people. They were quite floppy, so unless someone in your group NEEDED IT, Id advise to go without.
Considering how misleading this place is about being baby friendly all over the net, I decided to take my family out for a catch up with an old friend of ours.We got there around 16:00 and stood by the entrance for 5 min despite the place being quite empty given the time of the day but noone bothered to turn up to show us to a table. There were a few tables with people having their meals so I went inside to see if there was anyone to serve us, only to be ignored by who seems like a manager and her staff. They did not bother to recognise me nor said anything when they finally did. It almost seemed like I have trespassed somewhere I did not belong as the manager seemed quite irritated by the very presence of myself. I had to break the ice and ask the question whether they had any table available - this should have been the sign of poor seevice and i should have left then. Finally, I got a nod from her (yayand she started to speak to me! She said I can find myself a table and to come back to her once we are ready to order. As I thanked her for what sounded like a work order rather than a service you would normally expect from a restaurant (or a diner, as they marlet themselves), she added. "But you can only seat outside, as there is a function inside".That was the end of the service for the day for me. Fortunately (?my friends were running a bit late and we just ended up sitting by one of the tables they had without even being showed a menu. I did not want to force any unwanted service and decided to make a move to a more welcoming restaurant.Absolutely horrific service, strongly recommend against this place.
Went there today (inside section with the Italian menu), ordered a Waldorf salad, got the below. Pretty much inedible for my tastes. Very little of the traditional ingredients in the dish.
Wow, visiting from America so happy to find this place. Havent had a good burger in months. They cater to the American diet! Decor cute, service great. The cheeseburger with fresh ingredients and the California salad were scrumptious to me and my daughter. The burger meat was top grade, so flavorful. Ill be coming here alot, the menu was great.
Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Liked the al fresco outside seating arrangement. Ideal for those beautiful summer days. Food was pretty good too, tasty and well presented, but quantity served could be improved a bit as it left us wanting a bit more after finishing our meals! Btw for dessert, try the skillet baked cookie with ice cream, a must if you have a sweet tooth. Overall a good eating experience.
I enjoy going to Trunk whenever Im in Melbourne. The place has a nice feel and the staff are friendly.Last time I ordered the breakfast burger and felt regret as amazing looking pancakes were served to the table next to me.So, I didnt make the same mistake this time! These were so beautiful, fluffy pancakes and the whipped Mascarpone was amazing.
It was actually a night out at pepes.. Anyway! It was great, fantastic vibes and the food was solid. See pictures.. The 4 stars and not 5 is due to the broccolini which was to be honest... Incredibly underwhelming. Massive props to the lady who served our table. I regret not tipping her! She was fantastic (thanks for recommending the ice cream for one...)
A pleasant lunch outside under the trees on a warm day. The menu is pub style at an excellent price. The salad I had was plentiful the only thing was the chicken was so thin you could barely taste it.
Great breakfast spot in Melbourne CBD. Service is a bit slow, but staff is very accommodating. Food and tea was good.
This is a beautiful garden area in the heart of Melbourne. It should be packed every night, just for the position and beauty. Sadly, the food, set up and service is lacking. Been here 3 times now. They have Trunk Diner, which is very average burger type food, then they also have an Italian restaurant and bar, both side by side. Neither of them really work together, so when I tried to book an event in the garden area, they kept shuttling me inbetween the two venues. This Saturday night, they told us off for standing up in the diner, even though it was pretty much empty. Then they kicked us out at 9:30pm? Two stars are for the tree and gardens. Just stunning.
Trunk Diner is our go-to breakfast/brunch venue for when we visit Melbourne. They seem always able to accommodate drop-in visits. The breakfast menu is really varied, from an array for egg dishes to decadent pancakes and (my meal for todaya very tasty breakfast salad bowl - the flavour combinations were perfect.Coffee is on the milder side, but still delicious.Service is always friendly and fast, with just the right amount of quirkiness.Good indoor space for a cold day, or they have a large outdoor space for nicer days
Good place for late lunch/early dinner but as per other reviews nothing special. I had the Mac and cheese burger which was nice but a little greasy. My friend had the ribs which were again nothing special.
I was visiting Melbourne on a holiday and absolutely loved eating at Trunk Diner. The food is delicious, the staff are lovely and the diner is absolutely beautiful!Highly recommended.
I walked by this place a few times before finally going there with friends. They have lit up Corona bottles along the front which definitely catches your eye as you walk by. The inside was equally nice and made for a nice casual lunch experience. The burgers were good but left you wanting more because the portions were slightly small, but they were fair for the price. They claimed to have the spiciest hot sauce in Melbourne, which was a disappointing over exaggeration, but regardless, I was happy with the extra sauces they had available on the side.
A really fun location, we were seated very quickly and the coffee was great! I got the quesadilla which was just amazing. The portion size was decent and the wait time was pretty standard for a very busy time of day. There were so many things on the menu that Id like to try, would definitely come back.
Good place for a Friday lunch - caters for big groups. Tried the hotdogs & it was delish with ample toppings.
Great vibe for lunch, the place looks like a greenhouse. The chicken burger was good but nothing special and relatively small. Other portions of my friends were not that big either. It cost $13 which is reasonable.Great coffee!Would recommend for a casual lunch!
Food was disappointing average; the burgers were small with a thin and under-cooked patty. Limited options, but reasonably customisable. Most of the people left at the table were debating a second meal elsewhere as they were still hungry. Price as as expected door the area, but portion was too small, and large chips was far too expensive for just regular no frills french fries to share.Service was fine, but its definitely more of a bar than a diner. For the same price you could do better down the road at Bettys, at a pub or other diners.
I went here twice for brekkie whilst in melbourne. The Trunk Diner is in a small glass and wood room that gives you a pretty view of the trees around. Its even nicer when its raining so you can watch. The berrie pancakes are fluffy and flavourful and presented beautifully presented. Paired with great coffee you cant go wrong.
Service was great, breakfast was big and yummy and coffee was great. Would highly recommend trunk diner
Great hot dogAwesome food and funny staffer
Quality food and great outdoor area to catch up with friends or have a few after work drinks
The staff were great and attentive. They were really patient with us even though we were waiting on people to arrive. The menu needs a bit of revision unfortunately. Loved the hot chocolate I got! Food was pretty good but nothing extraordinary.
Really nice place! Luv the food. Great drinks too in a good spot! Pretty place
Great atmosphere, good coffee, amazing breakfast. Love it.
Great restaurant, beautiful food , nice atmosphere only let down was the waiters were nice and friendly but they hoovered over us for most of our meal. We didnt get time to enjoy between courses, felt to rushed. Will go back again.
Great place with a fun theme and a big outdoor seating area with lots of options. Excellent service, food, coffee and cocktail jugs.
Sitting at the bar solo I was allowed the freedom to do my own thing which was appreciated. The staff interacted too at times in a caring manner which was appreciated. The beer range is not overly broad but diverse - a good balance. A mellow atmosphere and positivity exudes from customers here.
Delicious food at the diner, great American-inspired menu but with plenty of varied options depending on what you’re after. Don’t miss the mozzarella sticks - they are DELICIOUS.
When I work at this end of town this is my go to cafe, exceptionally fast service which I cant thank them enough for given the literal seconds of time we get between appointments , good coffee is a plus. On the odd occasion I may sneak a croissant in the birds are pretty audacious. cheeky sparrow!
Great little diner in a restored 1850s synagogue and a huge beer garden. The American diner style menu is great with a large selection of burgers, nachos, sandwiches as well as sandwiches. Beer selection is perfectly matched to the menu also. Whilst not the best in town at anything it does, Trunk is satisfying and myself and my mates will be back for sure!
Very delicious, especially Mexican scrambled eggs & nice service.
They have an awesome location with outdoor seating which attracts many for food & drinks. Yet I failed to understand why they did not have sufficient number of waiting staff. It took a while and a bit of waving to grab attention of a staff. There are plenty of options for lunch, dinner and drinks. I went with my 6 other colleagues and after the lunch we all agreed that the food was just okay and deserved a three star rating out of five. The Chicken burger that I ordered had small pieces of chicken which kept on falling out of the burger. Thats a little strange for a burger. Taste was okay and wasnt extraordinary. Fries seemed cold as if they were waiting to be served for a while. In all, wasnt the experience I was expecting.
A rare quiet night for the Trunk bar on St. Patricks day made it all the more easy for us to grab a quick couple of drinks. Excellent small plates helped us on our way along.
Great place for a Sunday breakfast. The place is beautiful and the service is great. I had the chicken quesadillas and I fully recommend them. Ill be coming back no doubts.
Had been waiting to visit Trunk for a while and was so disappointed by the experience. The cheesesticks were only warm and not melted, the buffalo wings had no flavour and the gravy seemed like it was not housemade. Service was prompt which is why I give the two stars but otherwise just not up to scratch. May be more suited for people just wanting drinks.
Nice spot to chill, a bit expensive and the ice lattes were TINY but tasty food and friendly staff.
Nice atmosphere, service was great and food was good quality and nice portions. The dips and sides were all really good.
Awesome place, staff provide warm, friendly service. Food is delicious, coffee equally so, try it out you wont be sorry! Lovely outside seating area to boot when the weathers warmer :)
Not pricey and good collection of both alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. Not much of a selection for starters but might as well be the because it was a Tuesday. Location is very good and staff are friendly. Place available both indoors and outside.
I have high expectations for a melbourne breakfast so unfortunately this wasnt great. My pumpkin quesadilla tasted ok but the problem was that our drinks and food took so long to arrive.
Went there on Monday night. It was quite, perfect for my birthday dinner (20 people). The food was excellent. Everyone is happy with their food! I ordered the scotch fillet and it was perfectly cooked & the sauce was amazing. The staff that took care of our table was not so friendly. Couldve said nice things and be friendly, instead she feels like already done with the night and putting a yeah whatever attitude. And it was very quite, were pretty much the only group at 9pm, couldve given more attention. Went to the bar to grab a drink, the staff are nice.Perfect food without friendly services, 4 star it is.
Trunk is a great venue. Ive enjoyed a great meal, had beers on a Friday evening and enjoy their coffee. A cool setup with good indoor and outdoor spaces.
Very small burger . The chicken burger was small, burn with skin and fat piece.horrible! The very small fries for 4$ in a small bowl without flavour .25$ for 2 pints of beer!!!!We went here 10months ago and was better! We liked that place before but with that experience i dont come back again!
The coffee was nice, bit the breakfast burger was very small and the staff member initially forgot what coffee wed order and then served one of the meals incorrectly (meatballs instead of salmon). Will likely come back once more to give it another try, but not in a hurry.
Decent coffee, quick service and a beautiful outdoor area. Can feel a little cramped and busy, even with such a big area, but great for takeaway and cant fault them for being popular.
I forgot that Melbourne does coffee better. Trunk reminder me of what a good flat white tastes like. Friendly staff didnt mind an over share over breakfast.
