Trotters Gorge Scenic Reserve - Nature reserve in Oamaru, New Zealand
This was such a beautiful walking trail. It was a bit tiring getting to the top of the hill but once up there it was stunning views. Waterproof shoes came in very handy as it was quite muddy and had a few streams to cross. Took us about 2 hrs to walk the 2.5km trail at a nice leisurely pace with some stops and detours along the way. Overall absolutely loved it and definitely recommend.
You need a waterproof shoes before getting here. At least 3 creeks you need to pass through till the end of the creek track. You can see the mountains around you at the end. We took 45 minutes for return.
After spending less than 20 min in Moeraki Boulder Beach, me and my friend wanted to see this Gorge. It is 200% more amazing than the beach, the lush green vegetation and rocks, a short hike to unexpected view points, nature walk with beautiful bird chirping and water ways. Absolutely amazing place, you can easily spend 2 hours here.
Loved this walk, very Jurassic and wonderful views at the top. Quite a pull up.
Great little hiddeb treat, sheltered area for picnic, with water/toolet on site. Great little walks for those that want a walk in nature.
Camping there is a real good experience. But if u r not used to use a common toilet, which is not tidy, shiny and clean, then have to think twice. There is a nice cold clean water stream flowing near by which refreshes u. U need to book the place in advance.
A very peaceful location
Steep and wet. Make sure you have waterproof shoes and you have to cross a river. And runners will get wet
Very easy walk. From the carpark, its about 15min to the Cave, despite what the signs say. Dont expect too much, but the bush is very beautiful, and while there is a few up and down bits and stairs, its quite accessible.
Nice view up there, please be a aware if it is wet weather, it will be slippery to climbing up. Muddy n Rock there.
Refreshing spot
Awesome peaceful calm place to visit. Great for camping. Beautiful walks through native bush with several Creek crossings. Theres a doc hut further up the track that you can stay at. Good clean swimming holes to swim in.
Lovely campground, clean facilities and beautiful walks start from here
Pretty spot.
Long walk for elderly
Good for a walk or a BBQ at the bottom. Follow the orange triangles and enjoy some great views.
I walked the loop track, it was a great little walk through the gorge to a beautiful view point then back down. I was treated with a little show from a lovely group of birds with fanning tails at the top before my descent back down. Would recommend if you fancy an easy afternoon stroll, nothing strainous and mostly in the shade so good for hot days.
So beautiful. Campground was lovely. There is no water on tap but you can boil water from the creek. The creek can raise quickley and there are a couple of fords to get to the campsight. If it is raining you will need to be careful. The trail for the hiking treck was well maintained and the view was amazing.
Tucked away just off the quiet road that goes through Trotters Gorge. Its a really nice spot with camping and some local walks that can be challenging
Good short walk
This walk is not for the faint of heart. The sign is a bit misleading. It is 2 hours EACH WAY. It is extremely steep and not suitable for people who have trouble with slippery, steep inclines. The signposts along the wall arent great, and there are several completely un-signposted junctures. The view from the top of the ridge was beautiful.
Nice little campsite. The roads to get here were smooth and easy unlike other Doc sites!
Nice walk and caves. Great campgrounds. Careful of rain soaked paths.
Short track to Cave Walk, Trotters Gorge track was closed
