Trongs in Ipswich

Well unfortunately on this occasion we both was very seriously sick after visit on a Monday night 26 September, we was up all night being sick and feeling seriously bad, I have never had a bad experience here ever, I do not know why on this occasion, I have been for over 30 years to this fantastic restaurant, never had any issues, we had pork beef and chicken , was super sweet and all tasted similar, schezwan beef is normally quite spicy, but not like it normally is this time , a real shame for me to have to report this, the owner was his usual fantastic self super lovely self, cau I think he’s name ,I never remember names much.I hope this is just a one off experience

Good range of fish and of good quality both for starters and main. Clean tasting and really good noodles. Enjoyed a lovelly take away with good service.

Visited twice and both times have been excellent. Great food, friendly service - thoroughly recommend!

The best Asian food experience in Ipswich

Just came back from Trongs and what an experience it was. Absolutley gorgeous food along with very friendly and attentive owners. The food was delicious and by far the nicest Chinese Ive been to, will definitely be returning!

We had the most amazing meal served by Foo and his staff whom we had known for many years , in particular seeing Foo again was great and catching up. We celebrated Paul’s birthday yesterday evening 3.5.2022 with superb food it can’t be praised enough ! with the overwhelming generosity of my brother and sister in law. We have made arrangements between the four of us to visit during June to celebrate George and Libby’s wedding anniversary. Can’t wait to take in your wonderful cuisine 👏🏻👏🏻🎉👏🏻👏🏻Marion Brown

for the past 26 years i have been frequenting Trongs, it never gets boring. Fu and the team are most welcoming no matter how busy they are, as was last night 31/3/22. I took some clients there and to their amazement, i requested that we leave the dishes and selection up to Fu, He didnt disappoint! AMAZING FOOD, 4 courses. Mixed Starter selection, Crispy duck, array of mains about 8 of them and then finished with fresh deserts and coffees. The taste buds were bouncing off the walls, nothing is too much trouble. It just seems to get better and better. As for the comment on another review about cost. If you want cheap Chinese go get a takeaway! This is a class restaurant with class owners and class food, worth every penny and i travel 32 miles each way to eat here. Keep up the great service Fu and family. See you all soon

Absolutely fantastic! A bit skeptical ordering here because my family used to ordering Chinese takeaway in other Chinese restaurant, but yesterday they let me do the task of ordering food as we have guests coming in, upon reading good reviews from this restaurant, I thought I would give it go, Im asian and Im fussy about asian food. I called, the lady in the other end was really nice. Picked up the food, and was greeted with a nice welcoming vibe, restaurant was lovely and packed! Went home, had dinner and everybody agreed that it was way better than what we usually had in other Chinese takeaway. I dont usually leave comments but I thought, this is my way of thanking Trongs for giving me the closest best asian food I could get near me. Everything was simply divine, food wise, price wise and service wise. Planning to celebrate our special occasion in this restaurant. Will definitely our Chinese takeaway from now on. Highly recommended!!

The food was just gorgeous at Trongs today. Authentic and rich in flavour across the board. Service was friendly by the team and the owner. Staff were attentive and brought water to the table automatically. It is a shame they do not do larger sizes in soft drinks. Also I had asked for items such as a straw for the drink or cutlery and this was forgotten. The toilets although compact did the job. I would still however recommend and visit again given the minor flaws noted today. Free parking after 18:00 using the car park opposite the location.

First visit to Trongs and we have no idea why we haven’t been before. Great service, attention to detail, decor and most importantly the food was the best Chinese we’ve ever had. We will not be going anywhere else in future the mealWas first class.

Still, after all these years, a high quality Chinese restaurant with top service. Choose your times carefully to avoid the big rowdy party groups, unless youre one of them!

Absolutely gorgeous meal,lovely place and friendly cosy atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will go there again! 100% recommend it! Last but not least : parking just across the street ( Mon - Fri after 2 pm you only pay £2). After 6pm is FREE!

Had a takeaway from Trongs last night for a family birthday. Professional service, catered for gluten free effortlessly and with no fuss, all the dishes were absolutely delicious. Will definitely return!

Fresh ingredients, super taste and good prices... dont listen other people that its expensive. Last night I paid 24gbp for food for 2 people wich is under average in Ipswich. Totally recommended! The best place for Chinese food in Ipswich!

Personally Id avoid at all costs, I ordered crispy beef from there and after a series of tests the doctor confirmed it was compylobactor, it took 10 days to get over being really ill and still am not completely over it. AVOID UNLESS YOU WANT TO FEEL LIKE YOU ARE DYING. The doctor reported to the council as they have to by law.

Quite possibly my favourite Asian restaurant. The food in here taste amazing and is so well presented. The staff are amazing.

The BEST take away ever! I have eaten in 3 times here, this was my first time taking away, the quality is perfect all freshly cooked and kept hot, not warm, so was ideal walking the short journey home. The apple fritters are by far the best I have ever had, not stodgy just perfectly crisp and delicious toffee sauce. It IS the best restaurant and take away in Ipswich with great service and a welcoming attitude. I will be going many more times!

Had great expectations as this has an excellent local reputation, and I have spoken to several people who cant praise it highly enough.I had amongst other things BBQ Spare Ribs and was extremely disapointed because the portion size was fairly good, but the flavour was more like a spicy Asian taste. Nothing like what I call BBQ flavour at all.Also I thought their prices were a bit on the high side, but having said that the interior is lovely and plush.I say give it a try...

Fantastic food with great friendly and very covid safe. The staff made me a nervous person feel very reassured that they took my safety seriously. The salt and pepper prawns as a starter were so delicious and fresh you couldnt have asked for more. I had the pork in honey sauce which was soft tender and full of flavour. The time and effect taken in the food really shows. I highly recommend.

30+ years and our first meal in Ipswich....Wow!! Amazing food, lovely and genuine staff, and a really nice and relaxed ambience..... The four of us loved it and will most certainly be going back.... Thank you Trongs!

Food is always delicious, and very friendly service. Can be a pain if you want to book in last minute, but at the same time it is great to know that they are doing well even after the lockdown!

Lovely meal and friendly welcoming staff. All very calm in terms of COVID procedures so felt safe but not stressed! Was our first meal out as a family to celebrate my husbands birthday (and the others that got missed in lockdown).

A really nice place to eat. The food was excellent and the service good. Its expensive but its one of the best places to eat. The reason I havent given it a 5 star rating was that one of our number tried to get a set meal for 4 increased to 5 with us paying the extra. We actually asked for a set meal for 5 and a different set meal for 4 but that appeared to be a difficult concept as the maximum set meal they do is for 4.I dont understand what the difficulty was, but it was still a very good meal.

Lovely restaurant, caring owners who genuinely want you to enjoy your meal. I found the set menu we tried a little disappointing and overcooked but perhaps thats just a poor choice. Still highly recommended.

This is one of the best places I’ve ever had chance to try Asian food. The owner is amazingly courteous, the food is astonishing, you can go just with the appetizers and leave super satisfied and full. Shredded duck with pancakes is an absolute masterpiece. Almost every dish is decorated with roses made of vegetables.I will be coming back whenever I’m around.

Went there last night and I can honestly say that’s the best food I’ve ever eaten! Food came out in good time and every dish was packed with flavour. Not to mention the homemade ice creams and sorbets:Service was incredibly friendly and welcoming, there’s nothing bad to say. The best restaurant ever and I would go back again anytime!

Went here for my birthday with a few friends. Excellent food, best Chinese I have had in years. It was rather loud when we were there and felt a little cramped when another table near us turned up but the food is worth it.

Over rated and over priced. Trading too much on its reputation from former years IMHO. Check your bill, we were initially over charged for wine by £16 a bottle!

Lovely food. Friendly staff. A bit tight for space inside but everything else over shadows this. Definitely recommend a visit to anyone.

We must have been here for a Christmas meal for the past 3-5 years and we keep coming back. Delicious food, good atmosphere and lovely staff to top it off, they know their customers well and really make them feel at home. If you call early enough you can usually order food to take away too.

I wasnt surprised by this restaurant. The food was average, sometimes a bit bland, sometimes too salty. You could tell the meat and fish were fresh but the taste was just not there. It wasnt cheap either. Theres definitely better Chinese restaurants in Ipswich.

We had our team Christmas dinner here .. I know, Christmas dinner at a Chinese restaurant I hear you say??!!It was the best decision!Everybody was catered for, even the three vegans, without a fuss.The food was wonderful, and better still we were seated on a circular table which meant nobody felt left out and everybody could easily talk to each other.The staff were friendly and accommodating, and were very knowledgeable about special dietary needs.We will definitely be back!
