Tri-State Museum - Museum in Lead, United States
Wonderful place to visit. Next to the monument of the geographic center of the nation. Clean restrooms, water bottle fill station, gift shop.
Thank you South Dakota. We appreciated the free parking and dump station at the Tri-State Museum. Unfortunately we were back on our journey before we could experience the museum. We purchased fuel in town. We have to reseach donating to the museum.
Great stop and fun. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, great tips for traveling, highly recommend the stop
It was interesting despite the fact the visitor center was closed on Monday
Lots of old historical items to look over. Nice place.
Fun quick walk through the park.
The current management lacks the skills to run such a neat little place.
Good selection and many things were touchable or interactive
Cute museum with the monument in the back. Had a lot of displays of military stuff and daily life stuff. Even some dino bones. Had a cute little shop and area for kids to play with things too.
This is a great exhibition of the early settler days and a lot of items are on hand so you can see how hard they had it back then. The two story cabin is awesome as well.
Loved the museum and the monument. A must visit when in the area.
Great place to see the history of the area.
This is such a cool and well-done museum!!! We honestly werent sure what to expect - we really stopped for the geographic center of the nation monument on our road trip and thought wed just peak into the gift shop for some postcards. We ended up loving the museum and stayed for at least and hour if not more! It is really thoughtfully constructed - nice signage with easy to understand language, so much cool interactive stuff, a variety of exhibits that cover general and local history - clearly a lot of care and thought has been put into this place. We really liked the science-y exhibit on the history of light, the section on newspaper printing, the home-style artifacts, and the archeology section on dinosaur bones found in South Dakota! Honestly wish wed had time to stay for another hour and get every little detail. This is well worth a stop and it was free admission when we went! Plus the gift shop is really nice, too.
A very cool museum with all sorts of stuff. Dinosaur bones, old rifles, taxidermy, rocks..shoe x-ray, etc.It really does have alot to look at, and even a penny smasher for memories/souvenir.
Was a very well laid out and informative museum. Was a good addition to the Center of the Nation Monument.
Easy to find, lovely veterans Memorials, small gift shop inside museum, 1st two story log cabin, and the center of nation dial is cool.fun for pictures. Watch out for bees!
Had good displays of local history. Plus a log cabin, teepee, sheep herders wagon on site to see.
A must stop to see if you enjoy history, great museum! Your at the center of the USA too! The Buckley Spaulding cabin was cool.
What a great find. So interesting and informative.
Its Free and worth stopping!
Quaint and humble museum but very informative and interesting location.
Great hidden gem of a museum! Its free and many of the displays are touchable. They also have special tables for kid activities. The log cabin is a must see
Pretty cool. You can stand on the spot, like at 4 corners.
A little off from the true center after Hawaii was added but still a good quick visit with an interesting museum.
We stopped here on a road trip to stretch our legs and ended up enchanted with this little museum that took us back in time. The whole family found something interesting here.
Very nice small town museum, we enjoyed our visit
I guess I didnt know there was a difference between here and the center of the nation monument. See my review for that location.Bottom line, this a great stop and well curated.
We were just riding out to Mt Rushmore and stopped for a break. Outside is a walkway near a stream where I saw rainbow trout feeding. I love old ways of life and on the inside there were some great set ups that I enjoyed. Its worth the time to see.
Loved this place and the experience. Very kid friendly with loads of things to see and do. The museum was very informative and hands on and the service was excellent! I recommend.
Great place to take family for a stroll threw history
Cheesy? Cool? Your choice. A picture standing on the center is a must. The museum is well done. Visit the cabin and listen to the historian spin a few yarns.
Nice stop at the geographic center of the USA. Has an old cabin that you can tour as well as a covered wagon and Teepee outside. There is a nice free little museum inside.
Great place to stop for families and individuals alike!
Very cool local history. If you want to see the true center of the U.S., travel north of town a few miles. Look for the sign and gravel road on the left and drive 8 miles west.
Totally free museum in the center of USA.
Very cool place. Lots of stuff I remember from the past.
Amazing displays. Beautiful museum. Well worth the stop. The flourescrnt display was a favorite.
We stopped by because it said it was the center of the nation. Outside where two monuments ones dedicated to the service men and women of the Korea war and the other to the ones of the Vietnam war. Once we got there and got inside there was so much more than one would expect. There was a museum in the back section with a little bit of everything.
Very interesting
As described in my review of the Geographic center monument, this museum is filled with information about life at the turnof the century up to life when Alaska and Hawaii became states
Very interesting museum and the compass rose for the Center of the Nation with all the state flags was cool. The volunteers at the museum were very friendly and helpful. Worth taking the side trip.
Really really neat place. Has maps for many surrounding states as well as information on local attractions. There is a small gift ship and the museum has exhibits addressing wide range of western activities. Is also the geographic center of US, more or less.
Awesome place to stop. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Great hands-on museum with incredibly helpful people. They’ll even give you a free brochure map to the actual geographical center of the nation if you’re crazy enough to go off in the snow by yourself.
A must see ...center of US....great staff and wonderful displays
Fun visit. Just stopped by for the center of the nation monument but it is more. Also found it cool many service orgs worked together to male it happen. Chamber, Freemasons, Daughter of the American Revolution...very cool. Fun stop...and free!
This place has such a huge amount of local history inside, they are always changing up the exhibits and there is new things to see each time. So much of their donations of old cool stuff is from descendants of early local ranchers and farmers. Everything is just so cool, they have so much that their place is just full to bursting
Great little geographical stop. Beautiful grounds and eclectic museum. Beyond the gift shop is a museum that has a huge variety of exhibits the history of the area. Very interesting and entertaining! Be sure to visit the near by Korean War Memorial and Vietnam War Memorial as well.
Often times, free is better. Definitely the case here. Hands down, one of the most amazing museums Ive ever been to. Gladly donated, and would visit again (so much to see, so little time).
Very well done! Full of history, tons of hands-on antiques and fun for the kids. Be sure to see everything outside. The cabin and "geographic center of the United States" is a great photo opportunity. Sign the guest registry and be sure to spend a minute talking to the bearded man who is like a living encyclopedia! 😂 💜
