This veteran Griffith Park museum dedicated to trains has multiple locomotives & cars on display.
Very nice place. Plenty of parking ( and its free). Entrance is also free the train ride is only 4 Dollars adult and 3 for kids. This place is full of history and legends. Im sure the little ones will love this place as much as my toddler did. Make sure to bring water since I didnt see any stores near by.
Its free to enter but you can always make a donation for entry. Its a great place to spend the afternoon with family or bring some out of towners.
Entrance is free (but donation is suggested).Tiny train ride is $4 for adults, and $3 for children and seniors. This is a lovely place to visit. The staff is very friendly. I enjoyed my visit. The gift shop is worth a visit as well. They have the best sasparilla soda Ive ever tasted, along with rood beer and other flavours from a small company.
Love the trains here; just disappointing you cant board them and look around inside. Trains need some restoring too but other than night, really great place to visit.
I placed a post under Griffith Park regarding Travel Town. The long and short of it is that Travel.Town is unfortunately falling into a state of disrepair since much earlier days. It was a great experience years ago when you as a child were allowed to actually walk inside the train cars and get a real sense of train travel or years ago. Now the train cars are closed off from actually walking through them, except for a few of the engines. It is a shame for the children that they will.miss this part of the experience their parents had. Many of the train cars have fallen into a dangerous state of disrepair. So it is understandable why the Park service closed them off for safety concerns and I am sure budget cuts. That being said, it is still a great place to take your kids or grandkids for a visit into the past. Especially as it is free. It is still a worthwhile teaching environment for families with children that want a sense of early train travel.
This is a beautiful museum to visit for all ages. You can take a train ride for only $4 the entrance to the museum is free. Plenty of space to have a nice picnic with the family will absolutely enjoy this museum.
Fun for families wonderful to see the trains a great day out for just a donation free parking also
Cute place to visit but only two trains are open inside to view . The little gift shop was expensive. Clean restrooms . No wait since we went on Friday right when they opened. Fee is donation
My son is 3.5 years old. I took him there. He loved this place. He made me getting the train ride twice. This is a great place for kids. This is highly recommended for toddlers to teenagers ( specially learning steam engines @ school). Good luck
Ive been coming here since I was a little kid. It is great bringing my own kids here. They loved the trains. Great experience!
Great place to take kids and also great for adults... Free to check out. Donation suggested but now required. Its a shame you cant go inside the trains (you can go inside a couple of the locomotive cabins).
Awesome place for train lovers. The gift shop is awesome, the trains are in a bit of disrepair but since they dont charge admission I can see that as a lack of funding.
Great place to take the kids. Sadly, the trains are no longer open to explore the cabin space. Cabin space is now closed off. Fun place though.
Some of the trains are currently being repainted, so you won’t be able to access certain areas of the hangar. Still plenty to see and some trains you can even enter and touch stuff. The mini railroad is always working. Last ride is 30 minutes before closure, adult ticket is $4, children under twelve - $3. Also this is a great place for picnicking, and it can also be reserved for groups in advance!
Had a great time there. Wish the t-shirts in the girl shop had their name on them
Its wonderful when my kids saw the trains they became so happy and when to take a trip in small train its unbelievable .Its for free but the train its about 4 $
I love this little area. For small fee you could ride to train. Other than that just walking around boarding the trains and looking at the construction of each one. My heart really hopes that theres a little bit more to come for this place. The attendance seems to be spread out throughout the hour. There was a inside viewing area that was closed. If youre into volunteering theres a volunteering office which I thought about doing it myself. If you have children its a good little place to go to be secluded and the kids will get a kick out of it. Otherwise we spent about an hour and a half visiting.
If your a fan of the locomotive, this is for you. This place is so amazing, so much history, beauty, and those magnificent trains. The whole family can enjoy, even a 2yr old. Great for picnics, or a nice stroll. Bring your camera👍
Was fun, saw the old trains & rode the train around the park
Free entry. Fun mini train ride for the kids. Nice gift shop. Some train cars can be reserved for events.
Fantastic place to take your children and have fun.Lots of trains to see and the staff is great with children. We had a picnic. Took a train rideOur little one had a great time.
Free to enter which was nice. I thought there would be more to do here then there was though. They had all of the display trains roped off and you could only go into the front of one. There was a little train you could ride that went around the park ($4 adults, $3 child, under 19 months freewhich was nice but we found a better one next door at the Live Steamers Railroad but you have to be 34" and taller to ride it. It is something quick to do if youre in the area (spent less than an hour there). Good place to take small children.
Travel Town Railroad has a nice collection of engines and rolling stock. They also have a small gauge train that you can ride on. The park is well kept up and the QR codes next to each item has a wealth of information.
Great little spot to enjoy historical trains. Don’t forget to take the train ride that is located there. 🚂
Fun place to visit for kids and rail fans. Gift shop still requires masks for entry but has some nice books, puzzles and toys. Riding the little train is fun and not too expensive; we got two turns around the park for one price!Hope they get more restoration done on the rail cars so you can walk through rather than just see the exterior
Fun little get away. Great place to take the kids. Especially train lovers. Dont forget to go on a train ride!
Cute little train museum perfect for the rail fan. My son would have gone nuts over this place when he was younger. Its not that big, but has lots of actual trains to look at, party/picnic areas, a train ride, and a gift shop. Some parts were closed when we were there due to the pandemic. A few of the trains need some serious maintenance; the cable car was in really poor shape, which made me sad.
Beautiful and fun place for kids plus lots of memories of old train which every single of those locomotives and cabins have tons of history. Parking available enough on front. Fair tickets for entry plus train ride which was awesome. Restroom was clean and all people who work there was super nice and helpful. Thanks to you all
We always try to go and take the train ride whenever were in the area, fun place for the kids and adults as well.
Lovely little gem, of the bygone Era of steam rail. Great display of the steam engines which were the backbone of industrialization for over a century. Several engines had cabs open to climb into - though most of the interesting bits - knobs, levers, sight-glasses, gauges and such, have been removed. Still a very impressive museum of train history. The exhibition hall closed for covid, but the park open and free admission. Super glad that I found it on a detour. Would have loved it even more as a kid.
Sweet spot. Engineer Roy was so sweet. The little train was amazing. Wish we could of gone inside the trains. They were really pretty.
Great place for kids and grown ups to see these steel locomotives that were once the way to travel. Train rides, gift shop, and party packages available.
This 16-inch gauge custom-built model railroad is a treat for youngsters and interested others too. The ride runs twice around the Travel Town Museum grounds at Griffith Park to showcase the variety of rare locomotives on display and invites a closer inspection.
Classic train museum located in Griffith park. If you havent came here, you are missing out. Its FREE. They even got a cute little train ride that goes around the whole park. You can also host a birthday party here. Cool little spot to take your little one and get some steps in.One thing I would like to add, this place can use a good ol pressure wash session. Alot of dirt and spiders on the trains. Could use some cleaning. Just saying....
Travel Town Railroad was the highlight of the day for my son. There are trains of many different varieties, that you can see, and even explore some too. This free to enter destination has a lot to offer for those interested in trains, or even just looking to get out and do something as a family.
Wonderful experience with the family being it was our first time here for all 3 of us. Even amidst all the Covid restrictions indoors all staff were very warm and helpful. Thank you so much for the wonderful new memory🚂
Great place to take my three yr old grandson. He really enjoyed the train ride
Another great place to visit thats FREE!! Be sure to ride the mini locomotive and leave a donation. Places like this thrive on patrons donations to keep this place working. Checkout the cool old steam engines and learn a bit of railroad history.
Such a hidden LA gem! Wonderful and educational, the travel town volunteers and staff were so polite and answered our questions regarding the trains. Scan the QR codes throughout the park for more information on the trains as well.
Travel Town is a delightful place for little ones interested in trains. While the train rides cost a couple bucks, the rest of the park is completely free to enter and explore. Our two-year-old loved climbing into the two old train cars and running around the grounds. Its a great place for a family afternoon! One of the volunteers also told me that they do birthday parties here where you can purchase an unlimited train ride pass for your guests -- something for us to think about!
Nice place to see big engines up close, they may not run but the kids love them. You can rent an area to celebrate birthdays, check their website. Plenty of room for kids to run around, just be careful that they dont trip on the tracks.Free parking, public restroom, a train ride for kids that is cheap, a nice gift shop on site and some picnic tables have painted tracks so kids can play with their engines on them..
I took my kids to explore Travel Town Railroad Museums and they had an amazing experience, it took us like 1 hour to do all the museums because they still have some areas thaat are closed. It free and just pay por the little train rade. Week day are better because it not too crowded and you can take all the time you want talking and teaching your kids about Los Angeles Travel Town Railroad Museums .
Good place to bring kids. Lot of great train engines and all are steam engines. There is lot place to sit and have fun and eat. Small train ride is available and all can ride in the train and ticket is just 3$. Enjoy the train ride and train museum. There is small gift there . You can buy tshirts, toy trains and souvenirs.
Take the time to visit and walk around. Nice to let the kids climb on the trains. You can have a party on a train or just bring a picnic lunch.
A small place in Griffith park for your family to enjoy the history of travel throughout southern California, some of the exhibitions have yet to open, but still a fun place to visit local history.
So nice to have a picnic see all of the old trains and ride on the small one around the park.
Take a look back in time at this learning exhibit of old steam locomotives, train cars and informational exhibits!Pre-Covid 19 visitors had more access inside these show pieces. Unfortunately the exhibit hall has also been closed, not withstanding pandemic restrictions.Still, Travel Town is a good stand alone destination, or included with a Griffith Park visit. The Museum and parking lot are open free of charge, albeit donations are appreciated! There’s a mini tran ride available, similar to the ride at the south end of Griffith Park, at Crystal Springs Dr. The fares are reasonable, tho the lines for the ride can be long on weekends and holidays!
This train museum located in Griffith Park in Los Angeles is a non-profit museum and runs by donations only. So if you or your kids love trains check this place out. It is small so you will cover it relatively fast but cool old school trains with history behind them. They a have gift/souvenir store which sell snacks and drinks, restroom are available, and parties for kids are available which I would recommend visiting their website for more details and availability. You could ride a small train which laps the whole entire museum twice for no more than $4. If your planning to visit I recommend making it a picnic type of visit, they a couple grassy areas or tables you could use to enjoy your day there. Keep in mind its part of Griffith Park somehow.
I used to come here as a kid and now Im bringing my kids. I didnt know it was free so thats definitely a plus. The train ride was very nice and very cheap. My kids had a good time and its just very cool to see these classic locomotives. Its a big piece of American history in one place that you and your kids will definitely enjoy.
Nice little place to take little kids and plan parties. Your able to rent out a train car and shelters for parties and events. The place has many historical facts about the train and the trains themselves are really enjoyable to see. You can ride the little train they have there for , I believe, $3 for adults and a little bit less for children. If your child loves trains, like mines does, then you should definitely come see this museum. Entrance is free and so is parking.
