Trattoria del Pennello - Restaurant in Florence, Italy
Really enjoyed the place. Fantastic staff and amazing food. Can definitely recommend!
Ate here with 12 friends, very friendly staff, really good food and good prices, overall a super experience
What a great staff! My mom and I came here for aperitivo drinks and we decided to stay for dinner because it was so quaint and tucked away from the busy tourist traffic. They were happy to accommodate when we added another guest to our table. I had the truffle ravioli, lasagna and ragu. The house wine is an amazing red as well. Definitely recommend!
Not too great when it takes over 40minuets to get the main course.Waiting about 5-10mins for the starter then about 40minuets for the main course which was a chicken ceaser salad and pasta. Staff were very mmeeehh with everything and generally didn’t seem fussed.Food was nice but they are something I have made at home (but wanted real Italian food as we are in Italy). Also you will get charged for plates, which is unusual to me, it would normally be a service charge or something.Overall not great. And would not recommend.
Delicious, great service, fast, nice ambiance. The only issue was the pigeons but that’s something that’s out of the control of the restaurant. Definitely would recommend. The pasta was amazing!
Lovely restaurant with good Italian food with decent prices (considering its location in a touristic area). Only point of critism is that during our second visit, at around 18.00h on a Thursday, they said they were out of pizza already. Which is quite laughable tbh.
Food was ok, not good not bad... nothing special but the service was horrible. Wouldnt recommend.
Fast service, good food, reasonable prices and friendly staff
I will put it simply. Worst experience in Florence. It’s not worth it.
Very nice and hospitable waitstaff at a quiet terasse in the centre of Firenze. Great food at a reasonable price. Serving sizes varie : the ravioli did not have large portions but it makes sense considering the richness of the sauce. On the other hand, the risotto serving was very generous, especially for the price. Complimentary bread was excellent. To top off a very satisfactory lunch, we were served complimentary limoncello shots which were much appreciated. Thank you for the great meal!
We found this place randomly while walking in the streets of Firenze. We really liked that it was in the center of the city but so quiet simultaneously. The food was very tasty but the portions were a bit small. They brought us parmezana to serve with our pasta but it was half empty. In the garden there are some big umbrellas ( I guess for the sunbut it makes the atmosphere unbearable in hot days. A bit wind is nowhere to be found to feel better. They should close them (the umbrellasin the afternoon.Staff was friendly but we felt that there was a different treatment to those who spent more money than the rest. Someone will say that its logical but I think its not good for customers to feel like that.4€ for cover charge and 3,5€ for a big bottle of water I think its too much. But this is a personal opinion and is not affecting my rating.Overall I would say that its not a VFM restaurant but you will definitely taste some good food here.
Ate here everyday for 5 days we’ve been in Firenze, great food, great staff, beautiful outdoor tables on a courtyard, highly recommended!
We were in Florence for three days and enjoyed this restaurant so much that we ate dinner two of our three nights there. The food was outstanding, the prices were reasonable and the service could not be beat. Both times we ate there, Sharine (sp?was our server. She made fantastic recommendations on food and wine pairings. She spoke very good English, which was necessary for these tourists. My wife said the truffle tortelli dish and the cheesecake was the best she had ever had!Dont miss eating here if youre in Florence.
Would not reccomend unfortunately. This place served us risotto that was ok and a pizza with some very bad canned artichoke and mushrooms. Bit of a wait for the food and expensive. The rest of the pizza was edible though which was a plus.
Positive: food is good. Terrace is nice and quiet, and the service is friendly.Pici alla carbonara and ossobuco are very tasty.Negative: not value for money, especially when it comes to drinks prices. 8€ for a 50cl Beer
Nice trattoria in the middle of the city and a bit away from the tourist crowds; the trattoria is in a courtyard and offers classic Italian dishes.
Our worst experience in Florence so far.I have to say the pasta was tasty enough, thats why I gave to 2 stars. However the service was appalling. The staff need a rocket up them to motivate them.It wasnt good value for money, there are plenty of restaurants around that give better value for money.Definitely best to avoid unless youre Italian or American.
Great hidden gem off the beaten path in a hidden courtyard away from the crowds and nice quite outdoor space around 8 pm with cool breeze, great service, really good food (had the Marinara pizza and the steak with potatoeseverything tasted great
We arrived tonight our first night in Florence and chose this place for dinner. We were served by one middle aged man who was extremely rude and did not acknowledge us at all. He almost seemed annoyed by our attendance. Really bad experience ignored us when we wanted the bill and did not say a word no thank you nothing. He also did not offer a dessert menu and I’m guessing it is because we are a brown couple. Disgusting!
Excellent restaurant - great food and the Panna Cotta- Mmmmmm!
Cosy! Good terrace and delicous food :you should try tiramisu
Fantastic all the way! I walked in by chance, only to find out that it was one of Florence’s oldest Osterias with a hard to match story. I had the Trippa alla fiorentina with red wine to accompany and it was a truly authentic experience. After my espresso I was even offered a Limoncello! The authentic experience to finish my Italian trip on a high. Cannot recommend more - I’ll be back!
Truly good food at a good price, friendly yet professional staff, and homely atmosphere.
The food is amazing ,the staff is very welcoming ,great experience
Onion soup was disgusting. Like boiled onions in a water with cheese. Risotto portion is small and taste is so so. Bruschetta with chicken liver was the only tasty food. Service is slow. Prices are high. I don’t recommend this place and will avoid it at any cost
We had an excellent lunch (pasta dishesin a relaxing, quiet atmosphere. We would definitely return!
Definitely overpriced. Pizza dough flat and hard to cut/chew. Spritz was 80% ice, almost no prosecco or Aperol in it for 8€. Crostini mix, 3 out of 4 completely lack of flavor, even not salted, only chicken liver was good. Tomato spaghetti was the only dish that I can say was tasty.
The place is lovely, a little retired from the busy streets. We had a pizza and a pasta dish. Pizza was great, but wild boar ragu pasta was bland and a bit smaller when compared to other restaurants. Also, the staff was very cold toward us. Price was ok, but you could definitely find better options around that area for the same price.
Wonderful place, service is excellent so as food. In the heart of Florence. Fare prices.Do not forget to ask for the history of the place. Theres a Renaissance painter involved in it...Michelangelo was supposed to go there to eat.Lovely
Nice place outside to eat, fresh and good foot.Good Service too.
Delicious tagliatelle with mushrooms and truffles! Very nice service and fair prices, if you are around the city of Florence stop by!
Excellent pizza and nice atmosphere. Service was bad though. Our waiter was rude and smoked during work which left a very unpleasant smell when he was at our table.
Very good food in the Heart of Florence. In the Place where Dante lived closed. Service good and professional. Very good and relaxing atmosfere. Lets try during Your stay in Florence
Wow, this place is amazing. The staff was great and friendly and helpful. The food was amazing, more locals than tourists were eating here. The wine was great all the way to the desserts. Highly recommend.
Really unique spot with room for large groups and even outdoor seating in a beautiful courtyard out back. The service was very friendly and food was delicious!
The best restaurant I have ever visit
We sat outdoor at the back, great ambience, amazing food especially the dessert (we got the tiramisu and the pear cooked with orange). Very friendly staff and reasonable price !
Great Italian good. Friendly staff with a good service. The price was good and equal to the quality. Many people are visiting this place more than once...
Pizza was perfect and my mother enjoyed her risotto very much. Pasta portions are a little small so be sure you also have an antipasto and you dont leave it as your only dish especially if you have a lot to visit after. The waiter was very nice and polite.
After finally finding a waiter we ordered two salads. One was a chicken ceasare salad, which was the most boring salad I have ever seen. It consisted of salad leaves, bland chicken and mushy croutons and nothing else... The one staff member who seemed to be around was grumpy and not welcoming at all.
Our best experience in Florence! Amazing service, tasty dishes and allergens marked on the menu. Friendly staff and lots of fun! This place is a must if you visit Florence!
The best place to have a lovely dinner with a super tasty food and great service at the heart of Florence. Prices are ok so when I want to go out I know perfectly where to go to enjoy the day. Highly recommended ❤😊
A good place for Tuscan beef.I arrived for a late lunch, The staffs are nice and friendly. The grilled fillet tasted perfect in medium rare!Don’t forget the tiramisu and go with espresso, you must go in Italian way ;)
Fantastic! Service very nice! The meal (Bistecca fiorentinawas a dream, just perfect.
It is a shame that they sell what they call Fiorentina without the filet. Most of the tourist probably doesnt realise that the filet is missing. And then when we told the waiter he answered it is because we took a too small piece while we ordered a 800g steak. Its shame because otherwise the service was good, everything was really tasty as well as the wine.
We had a pretty good experience here, but nothing exciting. Average wine list. Decent food. Friendly and attentive staff. Seems a little touristy, but we went for a 9pm dinner and it was pretty chill.
My wife and I have been in Italy for 5 days now, and thus far theres been a lot of "touristy" food. This might be the best food weve had yet. Very impressed!
Honestly I havent had any bad food in Italy during my couple of visits, well the places where they target tourists are an exception those places you can just feel something is not right.Pennello is where you enjoy the food and warm hospitality!!When you are half through with your meal owner Gino (hope I got your name and spelling righthandsome Italian gentlemen walks over and checks whether everything is alright and chat with you, if you have a particular question and he cant handle due to language barrier he will wave over one of his fluent English speaking staff to assist your needs. There are a lot of overseas repeat visitors. I met a US couple in their late fifties who told me they visit Firenze every odd year and they always swing by to say hello.I think I will make it my own tradition too. Visited two years in a row and I think it is getting better.
I have been coming to Il Pennello for years and years -- and it never disappoints. No visit to Florence is complete without a visit to Gino and co. This is a classic Florentine trattoria that serves typical -- and delicious --Tuscan cuisine. Wonderful, friendly service, and first rate food. Try the spaghetti alla carrettiera -- light, bright and just the right amount of spicy. The bistecca alla Fiorentina is a classic -- and nobody does it better. The house wine is a rustic Chianti, simple and good, but ask Gino to guide you toward something special and you wont be disappointed.
Very large variety of food. Have menus in several languages. I took a meal deal that included pasta, meat, side dish & desert, and my wife had risotto with artichoke. The meal was very nice & reasonably priced.
