Budapest, Arany János u. 9, 1051 Hungary, Budapest
Homely brick-wall restaurant with artifacts for Italian dishes & stone-baked pizza, plus courtyard.
We had a huge expectations regarding the reviews but unfortunately, even tough the venue has Italian vibes and it’s nice and warm, food was tasteless. Meat in canelloni was without sauce and it’s not a tipical Italian ragu. The other meal was fine but nothing to remember.
Many Hollywood and Hungarian celebrities have visited this restaurant. I liked my pasta. Portions were not small like in a fancy restaurant and the food tasted good.
I didnt know what I was expecting coming in. Shockingly I was amazed that the restaurant could probably house a near 100-150 guests.1. Very well-mannered service with waiter taking our coats as we were seated. Service was very attentive and nice. Main course came in 50 minutes after our order which was disappointing.2. Traditional Italian cuisine on the extensive menu. Fine wine list. I had a short-pasta with sirloin chops and red wine sauce that in my view should have been served in a bowl-shaped plate, but was served on a flat plate. Flavours werent too exiting, but not bland. 3/5.3. In the background, on high volume, played the top 2020s hits of the pop-genre. Very strange in regards to what this restaurant feels like it wants to be - a more of a semi fine-dining kind of place.Would give this another try if in town again. For now 3/5.
Just wow!If you want luxury but authentic style with elegant and creative Italian dishes then this is the place to go.It had a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, prompt service and wait times for food and the best bit was … we could watch it being made as our seat was next to a large window into the kitchen. Incredible. It’s more of a premium setting not your average Italian pizza and carbonara style expect to pay a little more but it’s worth it! Oh and you need to book a table early you cannot turn up as it’s fully booked most nights. Enjoy :)
Amazing Italian food! Professional service and very wide wine menu. The pumpkin ravioli, the salads and the 4 formagio pizza were great.
We ran into this lovely restaurant because we were avoiding the rain. We were very lucky. This place is well known for its authentic Italian food and excellent service.
My favorite Italian restaurant in Budapest. Excellent service, amazing Italian food.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Budapest. Great atmosphere, excellent selection of food and wine and friendly staff. Definitely need to reserve well in advance as always very busy. Recommend the mussels when in season, pizzas are always a good option, pastas are delicious and my son says the Panacotta for desert is a must have.
Best Italian restaurant I have tried in this region of Europe, main dishes are great, we tried Pomo D’oro pizza, ravioli, salad, all delicious. Perfect meal with perfect end: the desserts, best profiteroles we ever tasted.
Realy a beautiful Trattoria in the City of Budapest. We had a great Free Walking Tour und went then to the Restaurant. It`s important that you do a reservation before! They are verry bussy and without you have to wait. The meal and the service was great!Realy a must have in Budapest. We had a starter a mean course and a dessert and the price was really good.
I had dinner here last night, it is the best Italian I have visited whilst travelling. The inside decor was beautiful and the food was magnificent. Despite that what stood out most was the service provided, I had a tall gentleman with glasses on and blonde/receding hair line (forgot to ask his namehe was extremely professional, kind and very aware of his surroundings. One of the best waiters I have had in a long time and I hope the restaurant managers are aware of how professional and skilled he is.Thanks again for the good eating experience and I will be back!
The best place we ate in Budapest. Absolutely recommended. The stuff was kind and very helpful...they suggested the best wine about each place separately and they were right. And the food was amazing. 5 stars from Greece.
Lets just say that the 15% service fee does not motivate the waiters to care for the guests. The service was so terrible that It felt like we were completely left alone for the whole time. It wasnt just slow It was nonexistent. Even if the food had been amazing (which it was not that muchit would have not made up for everything.I am truly disappointed and embarrassed that I took my in law family here and had to apologize thoroughly to them that I though we will have a nice lunch experience in a well known restaurant but it was very far from it."Clearly fame isnt everything" - Severus Snape, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone
Best pizza but always have to reserve a table in advance
We ordered Monk Fish and Pizza Quatro Formaggi. Everything was very good. Service was OK.
This is my 4th visit to Budapest and 3rd and probably last visit to Pomo D’Oro. The food was delicious as always but the service went downhill throughout the evening. Halfway through dinner, when the restaurant was still very full, an extra 2 person table was drawn up extremely close to our table and an acquaintance of our waiter, and possibly other staff, was sat there. We then became invisible. When our plates were being cleared the waiter ignored us and spoke over our heads to the other table. When we asked for the bill it never arrived and waiters pretty much disappeared setting up tables in other areas for tomorrow. Eventually the wine waiter noticed and asked if he could help. When we said we’d been waiting 10 minutes for a bill, instead of saying ‘sorry, I’ll get someone to help’ which would have been great, he said ‘everyone is paying now, there can be delays’ not so great and a lie. The restaurant was virtually empty at this time and no one was paying. We then saw our waiter deny we’d asked him for the bill when asked by the wine waiter, and then laugh. Very very disappointing.
Exceptional restaurant in the heart of Budapest.... Interior... Food.... Service... Id love to visit him again.
Just outstanding! The pasta, the chicken were absolutely perfect, the only trade off was that the pasta arrived somewhat colder than it was supposed to. Other than that, it was an excellent experience!
This is a big Italian trattoria and it feel genuine. From the stone walls to the variety of pictures, ornaments and signed football uniforms. Very large menu with lots of options, with vegetarian options as well. We took the buffalo salad which was great (real mozzarella buffala), seafood spaghetti and lasagna. Great portions and amazing taste. For desert we had the profiteroles which was a bit too sweet. Great service, great wine. Very much recommended.
We waited quite a long time for our food and when it came it was well seasoned but quite overcooked. I had a grilled platter for 2 and every piece of meat that was on it was dry, except the pork T-bone, that was OK. The staff was nice but especially for the price point it was very dissapointing. As for the pizza they have we havent had any so I cant attest to its quality.
Very good Italian food. Good service and nice atmosphere
To be fair I tried this place twice before writing the review. There a two classes of guests in this restaurant: The locals and The tourists. The tourist seems to targeted for any upsell they can pitch. It seems to be about getting you in, paying the most and getting you out quickly. The main course was served when we were still eating the starters. The food was ok but not value for money. Afraid I will not be putting this restaurant on my regular list!
We arrived quite late on a weekday and, although the kitchen was imminently closing, they rushed through our appetiser along with the mains. Although the four cheese soufflé was lovely, the service was the best part of the evening. All the waiters were wonderful and genuinely wanted to give us a good experience. They spoke to me in Hungarian and my partner in English to accommodate. One helped me with my wine selection and advised me well. The menu was comprehensive and had vegetarian options clearly marked. It’s a little pricey for Budapest but worth it for a nice meal. I recommend booking and arriving before 10 to ensure the kitchen is open!
Rude waitress! I reached and he said only reservations and no table for today! I called they told me available table within 1 hr
This a topical Italian Resturant in Budapest, Actually I went to this place two times during a business. The first experience was excellent and the heart was the Froto de mair
Great food and drinks. The staff is nice and professional, although they were a bit pushy.
The first time we went we did not have a reservation and then one of the employees (not a waiter, he wearing a shirttold us "other side other side it is also the same". It wasnt the same restaurant it was a different restaurant but owned by the same person which is very rude and misleading... Next day we went with a reservation and honestly we felt like we were being judged by how we were dressed because we did not dress up to their "standards" I guess... And it should not make you treat anyone differently as I am dressed for my days activity not your approval . Now disregarding all of this, if the food was at the level they act it would have been way more understandable 😂, but the food was extremely average nothing special at all, and the Tiramisui was not pleasing as all you can taste is coffee due to soaking the biscuits in coffee more than you should...
We enjoyed a memorable family dinner at this hidden gem in the heart of Budapest. Impeccable service, a great selection of Hungarian wines and a fantastic menu made out of the freshest quality ingredients. We havent had such amazing Italian in Italy itself. If youre in Budapest you shouldnt miss it.
The best experience in Budapest, their menu has great offers and the wine menu is exquisite as well. I will definitely go again!
Amazing. We had the salad, a pizza and a shared dessert. Service was honestly amazing, and the food was beyond (considering the price). Thanks for this experience!
It was excellent. Nice vibe. Book the night before as walk in for dinner is unlikely There was a bit of upselling initially. But after we sorted it out, all went well.I would suggest you check out the menu and drinks so you know before you go.The profiteroles we exquisite. However I wont be returning. If found the staff a little less than welcoming
Very, very good pizza, nice waiters, very good wine, very nice restaurant garden and… almost forgot - the best garlic olive oil I’ve ever eaten.Seems like it’s one of the best restaurants with pizza in Budapest.
The waiters were very helpful and gave us many suggestions. The food was very tasty. The deserts were really amazing, the chocolate cake was our tables favourite
One of the BEST Italian restaurant in Budapest. Pastas, risottos… every.single.dish.is.heaven🤍
Ive been here around 10 times since 2018. At best you get amazing Italian food served by world-class waiters, like Feri + +. Other times, food is more ordinary and service is Bob-Bob. Nice interior. The pumpkin tortellini, the seafood pasta is highly recommended. Ask the chef to skip salt all together, unless you need to salt and store the food for the 30th century
Food was delightful and fresh. I had a pasta dish with mushrooms that was very delicious and very filling.Service was great, a little slower than I’d like, but Italians take their time with meals, right? One thing I noticed is that I had to ask for bread and Parmesan cheese while everyone else was just served those things- perhaps because I was eating alone I didn’t get the best service? A little bit of a bummer but my waiter did comp my glass of wine at the end, and overall the experience was lovely & I’d still return for some good Italian food.
Really nice Italian food and a great atmosphere. Reservation is a must, as place is very busy and popular.Spinach and Ricotta tortellinis are amazing, so are their pizzas and buratta starter.Highly recommended.
The food was incredible!!! The service was also great, we didnt have a reservation but they found a table for us, however I recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends.
The best Italian restaurant we had in Budapest.Amazing beef steak cooked perfectly and so tasty. The lasagna was amazing and very tasty, my wife had great pasta Boulognes.Dont waste your time and money on other places.
Absolutely stunning food and exceptional service. Best restaurant we visited on our 4 day trip to Budapest. Thank you for a truly wonderful experience.
Italian restaurant with wide range of dishes. I tried pizza, it was good. The restaurant is popular among local. The staff speaks English, but they don’t seem very friendly
Amazing Italian restaurant in budapest. We ordered 2 tasty starters, A great well Cooked pasta and 2 perfect desserts. If you are in budapest and looking for an Italian restaurant, then this is the right place for you .
Highly recommended! Excellent food, friendly staff, a little Italy in the heart of Budapest. The pizza is real napolitalian, the tomato soup is fantastic, and if I may suggest: the Lasagne al forno with the homemade green pasta is simply delicious. Great Italian vibe in the restaurant. You might have to reserve a table in advance.
The profiteroles were amazing, the mussels were also very good, and the huge cut of meat was very satisfying
A very Amazing experience. The staff are very welcoming and so polite. The taste of food is perfect.Amazing atmosphereWe went Friday night we called just to assure theres a table availableDefinitely i will go back
The food was absolutely mouth watering. We where a group of 15 and we all absolutely loved it. Delicious food with big variety. Friendly staff. Delicious drinks. Ideal for big groups.
Excellent restaurant in the heart of Budapest. Italian style kitchen done very well.Seasoning-wise, I didnt find the food particularly salty. Its certainly saltier than in the UK where they have been fighting salt for many years now, but its not excessive; just normal really. For the wine, if you are 2 and plus, I recommend buying a bottle. Otherwise, you will get the same pourings you get in a winery or a tasting house.Plenty of signed and framed pictures of celebs who visited the place.Recommended!
Favourite in Budapest. Ive been here twice three years apart. The food and service was still outstanding. The cosy set up of the restaurant makes you feel at home. Deserves all of its 5* reviews.
Excellent Italian place for food and drinks. We had a reservation for 8 people for meal with drinks. The waiter helped us with the menu, shared starters and main courses. We also got very professional wine tips for our food. Everyone in our party was happy with the food, service and the atmosphere. I would certainly want to come back there. A must for food lovers!
Excellent quality, friendly staff.Pumpkin puree with fish was amazing, and pasta was cooked to perfection. The Italian Tiramisu (alcohol freewas very good.Even the coffee was really good. And as in most places in Budapest, lemonade is great.Place is a bit fancy and expensive but its totally worth it.
