Trattoria Giovanni in Florence

The service was fine, but the food was not so good, the pasta was not al dente and had a lot of cream. The salad was not seasoned at all. And the prices are not so cheap. The bill also included 2 euro per person addition for service and the oil and and balsamic that was on the table (was not mentioned by the waitress).

Exceptional service and energy from the staff. They were more than happy to offer recommendations and pairings which didn’t disappoint. Great rustic vibe

We stayed at Macchiato Suites close by and this was easy walking distance for dinner and we went there twice in the 3 nights we were in Naples. Quick and easy. Good and cheap food. Home style cooking. Simple but genuine flavours and good service. Recommend mixed fried seafood, seafood risotto, house red wine, mixed vegetable plate. So good we came back on our last night in Naples. Literally you can get a dinner for 2 with wine for €25 and it’s good.

Lovely restaurant not far from the Pitti Palace serving excellent Italian food. I had the gnocchi al gorgonzola e noci, as well as an off-menu panacotta with pistachio coulis recommended by the waitress. The staff were all really welcoming, so dont be shy to ask for any suggestions for your meal!

It was so amazing ! Good food of course , but more important: the service was from an other planet! The young man in the service is such a sweetheart. Very warm welcome, perfect amount of informations about the food, little bit of fun and perfect service. Me and my boyfriend are waiters too, we went to a lot of Restaurants in our live but after this evening we both said: we never meet such an amazing person in our live, specially not as a server. This gem of a restaurant is highly worth a visit.First of all, you must book, this place is popular and it’s for a reason. Enough praise cannot be given to the wonderful staff for making our experience simply unforgettable. They were friendly, attentive, hilarious and seemed to genuinely love what they do. With each dish more delicious than the last, all reasonably priced, I will be back here any time I return to florence.The truffle pasta was creamy and delicious, paired with wonderfully fresh prosecco. The tiramisu was clearly homemade and was so moist and full of flavour. The coffee was a real treat to end the meal on. We left feeling like one of the family and have never laughed so much over a meal.

The food was amazing! It is the best we’ve had on our trip so far. The owner of the restaurant and all the staff were very nice and knowledgeable. The owner took the time to sit with us and tell us about the history of the dishes we ordered and where they got their ingredients. The restaurant itself was wonderful and had a great ambience. Make sure to make a reservation as the restaurant understandably books up fast!

Amazing experience and standout staff. The food was the best weve had in Italy to date, and the friendly owner took time to sit with our table and dive into the history and details of each recipe. Atmosphere was welcoming and the evening was tailored perfectly. The food is in many aspects farm-to-table, and this passion for each aspect of the dining experience is evident in every bite.

best restaurant we’ve tried in Florence. we had the truffle cream pasta and the gnocchi with Gorgonzola and walnut. food was creamy, flavorful, and delicious but still felt light. we had it with the house red — highly recommend especially for people who don’t always like wine. server was kind and engaging, and managed to seat us even though we didn’t have a reservation. if you don’t have a reservation, going earlier than the Italian dinner hour (around 7 rather than 8helps a lot. an ideal menu, with a mix of simple classics and interesting adventurous dishes. everything was reasonably priced. if i return to florence, and of course i’d like to, i would return.

I had the best Gnocchi of my life!It was sooo delicious! exceptional service, they make us feel at home.Nice environment and also friendly with dogs.I would go back every day and recommend it to everyone.

Reserve ahead of time!This place is worth some of its price tags, and though quantity might not be enough for heavy eaters, the food tastes out of this world. Homemade balsamic vinegar steak was fantastic. Would definitely recommend and come back again! The owner and waiters are also super friendly.

Absolutely lovely place with good food! Totally recommend the sausages to give you a dance of flavours in your mouth. The glass of red wine was delicious but felt like it was never ending hahaha. The creme de la creme for me was their tiramisu! I will dare to even say it is the best Tiramisu in Italy by far (and Ive tried every tiramisu in all the restaurants I have eaten). The vibe of the place is charming and the people working there definitely bring a lot more character to the place. Definitely worth going!!!

This was the best meal I have ever had in my life! My husband and I were lucky enough to get a table without a reservation when we were in Florence, and it was the best meal we had in Italy! In addition to the amazing food, the service and personal touch was outstanding. I would come back to Florence just to eat here.

This was our first dinner in Firenze and we picked it specifically to try the famous Florentine steak. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful in our menu selections. We ordered per his recommendations the two pastas (pasta with cinghilae and pasta with porcini mushroomsthe steak, roasted potatoes, simple salad with lettuce and arugula (he was insistent didnt need tomatoes). He also selected the red wine for me, chianti and it fantastic!Everything was excellent except for the bread. But Ive noticed that the "complimentary" breads in many restaurants, even good ones, are kind of tasteless in Italy. Complimentary is in quotes because depending on the restaurants, they either charge you for the bread (whether you asked for it or notor charge you coperto (like a seating or cover charge).Side note about the steak, its ordered by weight and the waiter recommended 1.5 kg for 4 of us. We dont eat steaks much so it was a little too much, may be even 1 kg would have been fine for us to get a taste. It is cooked pretty rare so if you like your meat medium to medium well done, this steak isnt for you. Fortunately my husband was ok eating the red meat. The rest of us ate the more cooked pieces around the edge.

Warm service, small restaurant, suggest reservations.Pasta with mushrooms good, we are really surprised of the Italian beef with lard, very bold approach. Rare cooking and then with a layer of hot Lard. Perfect match!

Fresh and very tasty pasta, everything was perfect, I really liked the taste of the pasta with the rabbit meat and also truffle pasta, the atmosphere inside the restaurant was very good, the attitude of the waiter was good, the price of the food was reasonable. Recommend it!

We first went to Trattoria Giovanni in 2018 and had an excellent experience. Visiting again 4 years later we expected the very best based on our previous experience and the team at Trattoria Giovanni did not disappoint. The service was attentive but not too formal which was perfect for us. The restaurant was clean and organised with a very fun and friendly atmosphere. Our party enjoyed a massive Florentine Steak with sides and various pastas and the food was cooked perfectly. The house wine was very good. We hope to return in the future.

It is really a gem that you do not want to miss. We travelled through France and Italy, and this is the best restaurant that we visited. From the food which was heavenly to the service that made you feel like you are visiting friends, to the affordable prices, everything was perfect. If the world were run the same way these folks run this restaurant, it would be a heaven on earth.

Absolutely fantastic experience. Great food with great wine pairings. Fresh dishes, other than the normal touristy food otherwise available in big parts of Florence. Had an incredible meal there last night. The servers were very fun and attentive, they clearly love the food and drinks they serve. My wife loved the pappardelle with the wild boar sauce, and I had the pasta special with the rabbit. The Florentine Steak was excellent as well. Best meal I’ve had in Italy so far.

The best dinner we had in Florence between the staff being helpful with recommendations, and the flavors so impactful! Our waiter wouldn’t let us order our wine until he knew what we were ordering for our courses so he could advise us on our pairing. The stewed beef was so tender, the chicken was grilled to perfection, and the crostini Giovanni are addictive. Make sure you hit this spot!

The food was amazing (we had the wild Boar Ragout and the Bistecca Fiorentina).The wine recommendations were 10/10 and went perfectly with everything we had.Thus most importantly the Owner/ host/ waiter was very friendly, good to talk to and very honest.Seriously can’t go wrong with the place! One of the best pastas we’ve had so far! We ordered the truffle cream linguini which was creamy, savory, and so fragrant, it was like eating a delicious hot plate of heaven. The owner was super friendly and charismatic, I would definitely come back the next time

I cannot say enough good words about this restaurant. Big thanks to the foodi friend who recommended me this place ❤️Their service made you feel like eating at home. There are only 3 waiters and the restaurant is full so naturally they are very busy, but they look so calm and elegant, and are very patient with customers. Dining here make me feel like being respected.The food is amazing. The flavors are exquisite. The chefs are apparently very good with seasoning because every single dish is carefully prepared and flavors are well balanced.I had the porcini mushroom pasta. They use chicken stock to enhance the flavor and the pasta is full of umami! I cannot have enough of it.The beef stew is a classic dish in Florence and with the chef’s magical touch, this dish is another highlight of my dining experience. A glass of brunello is a must to accompany this dish.I also see that they give a 4 people table to a couple with a little boy. A discriminating restaurant like the one I went to yesterday would not waste an extra table on a little kid. So thumbs up to this restaurant!Strongly recommend to anyone who wants a memorable local Florentine dinner and want to be welcomed.

Trattoria Giovanni impresses. The restaurant was able to squeeze us in despite being booked up, and little did we know how lucky we would be! The pastas and beef stew were marvellous and the hospitality was gracious and attentive. These gentlemen run an exceptional restaurant. Treat yourself and make a reservation—you’ll be better for it.

Just had the most amazing lunch there with my partner. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, but the best part by far was the service. Every member of staff is friendly and helpful, and they know their stuff! Made great recommendations based on what we like, what we’re drinking and the time of day (Almost made the mistake of having a very heavy dish on a hot afternoon because it sounded so good), and they were able to tell us exactly where everything is sourced and how it’s made. Will never forget the lovely experience we had here and would encourage anyone who’s never been to Florence and is looking for a great meal to head in this direction!

This was the perfect way to end our trip to Italy. We loved the many places and restaurants and this was a great finish that will leave us with many amazing memories.The Truffle pasta was hands down the best pasta we had while we were in Italy. The Bistecca Florentina Chianina was excellent, and the Tiramisu was out of this world.The staff was attentive and professional making sure we were taken care of at every turn. We just had one of the best dinners of our lives. I’m sure there are lots of great restaurants in Firenze but I’m so happy we found this one. The food was just amazing. Don’t regret asking for anything (and we hella asked for lots of dishesand even had to repeat dessert! Not only the place is nice and cozy but the staff is so friendly and efficient. Gianluca is so extra and charming that you couldn’t feel more comfortable while tasting amazing flavors, lowkey. If I could come back a thousand times I sure would!!!

I haven’t been treated like that by a owner of a business ever. He sits with you and walks you through his best foods and will be very frank with you about which ones you should actually eat. Me and my 6 friends loved this place.

This is probably my favorite restaurant of all of Italy. The owner sat with us and chatted recommended food and generally made the entire experience pleasant! He knew all about the parings of different foods and made excellent recommendations! Me and 6 of my closest friends were incredibly impressed!

My friend and I are on a trip across Europe and so far, of the four countries we have been in and the many many restaurants we have tried, this is by far one of the best! The food was delicious, but the SERVICE was PHENOMENAL! I’m pretty honest in my reviews, and I can’t honestly say Gianluca was the best host I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. It was like talking to a friend! (Who also happens to know several languagesSuper safe space for tourist! Giovannis felt like having a home cooked Tuscan meal with family. Gianluca was one of the best servers Ive had in ages. He was funny, sarcastic, caring, and educated us about the menu, how to pair the correct wine with the food we ordered, and taught us about Florentine cuisine.I dont usually post photos of people in my reviews, but Gianluca was a gem, and I would return to this restaurant just to say hi to him, even if the food wasnt good... But alas, the food was wonderfully heartwarming.I highly recommend the Ribollita (a hearty 16th century Tuscan "soup" eaten with a fork, not a spoon)

Would definitely recommend this place! We had two kinds of pasta (gnocchi and truffle pastaand it was the best we have had so far! The staff were also amazing and made the night an experience and just fun. They helped us pick wines to go with our meals and also gave amazing recommendations for an after dinner drink. Would 100% recommend!

We had some great food and wine here. Gianluca who is the owner of the restaurant gave us some amazing food and wine recommendations. He is one of the most friendly people we met in Florence. We had some great discussions with him about Italian food and art. You should definitely go there when you are in Florence. The steak with green pepper was super delicious and I also loved the classic Tuscan tomato stew made with left over bread. To end the great meal we had delicious Tiramisu and Lemoncello. Thanks to Gianluca and his partner for being such great hosts.

Love this place! The best place that we ate at in Florence and I’m only sad that we discovered it on our last night. The food was amazing, the staff were incredibly nice and funny, and the wine was great! Pro tip, get the dessert!

Don’t skip it just because there’s no outdoor seating. The inside has a cool vibe and is super clean (including the bathroom). The staff is outstandingly welcoming and professional. The stracchino/sausage antipasto is a 10/10 and the fresh pasta dishes are out-of-this-world tasty. They have some great wines on the list too. Not to miss if you’re in Oltrarno!

Even diners from our previous time had also returned. So it’s not just us.This is really a dining destination to add to your Florence trip. I mentioned in a previous review about the excellent service. I forgot to mention how fantastic the meal was! My fiancée had the Tagliatelle ai funghi porcini and I had the Pappardelle al Cinghiale (my favorite meal so far in Florence!). I went to pick a red wine and my waitress was quick to let me know of a better wine that paired with the meal, I chose that one and it was perfect! Thank you for the great experience!

The ravioli with ricotta and spinach were by far the best Ive ever had. Definitely recommend this place. Great service by the staff with an awesome personal touch from Gianluca! Will come back the next time were in Florence!
