Trattoria Caffe Monteverdi - Italian restaurant in Hong Kong, China
The most disappointing meal ever. Food is overpriced - $286 for a mouthful of duck ragu pasta which is overpowered by rosemary and overly sweet. The lasagna is worse which is dry and seasoned with this weird spice which does not taste traditionally Italian (tasted like Chinese five spice). We left within 15 mins and had to go somewhere else for a second dinner. Should have gone to Pici…🥲
Nice pasta. Service could be better.
Had heard that this restaurant was very authentically Italian but I did not find the food to be that authentic. I’m guessing the original restaurant, which was in Sai Ying Pun, used to be awesome and the reviews were for that and ever since the location has changed, maybe the ownership has too?
Worst Italian food in hk? Ive never been more surprised at how wrong the reviews are. Maybe its new owners? Maybe, since they are moving locations, there is a temporary step down in quality? Whatever it is, while service was nice the food tasted like it was either microwaved or hardly cooked. If this place was decently priced it would be ok at best but for the premium charged Im calling this unfortunately the worst Italian in hk.
both pasta dishes undercooked..i can make better pasta at home
Comfort and cosy atmosphere. Very delicious italian food. Set lunch with very reasonable price and wide choices, available even on sundays
Calm atmosphere, relaxing and paired with nice service. Only thing is that pasta should be "al dente".Overall good experience ^=^
The penne was homemade, meaning that even i can make it, and probably better too.And the dessert(some white puddingwas basically toothpaste. How on earth did this restaurant get 4.x stars is quite beyond me.
What a disappointment! Looks great from the outside but the food was barely mediocre and massively over priced
Well, firstly I didnt ever know that there was this Italian restaurant in high street, been living here for many years, dont want to write too long ,but definitely a must visit restaurant, i think thew chittara spaghetti with saffron cream sauce was the main highlight , friendly staff and amazing service, would be coming back here soon.
This place used to be great and probably still is but there’s one waiter (the guy who isn’t the owner and his wifethat absolutely ruins the experience for me. I’ve had better service from waiters in 茶餐廳 than this guy. He couldn’t even be bothered to explain the specials on my birthday and just pointed to the board. Even though we were the only people in the restaurant he kept trying to sneak up and grab our plates. Would love to come again if the owners are here though. Just writing this in hopes that they notice.
The staff’s attitude was awful. He always had a condescending tone when he speaks e.g. came and asked if we’re still working on the soup and salad. We said we were still working on them just for him to come back a minute later to ask if we’re done yet again. Then he came with two plates of pastas and asked us who was having the ‘A’ set. I said A was mine but then he placed the pasta in front of my friend. I got confused so I asked if that was his or mine. He speaked in an extremely condescending tone and said “if I placed that pasta in front of your friend, obviously it was his and not yours”
Very typical neighbourhood Italian restaurant with homely interior. Food is good but a bit pricey
Lasagna with something sweet of the chefs choice is going to be my daily ritual! Love the food!!!!!!
The homemade bread was quite dense and stale, and the pasta was overcooked and didnt have much flavor. Three stars instead of two because the basil panna cotta was delicious and interesting, the soup & salad were decent, and the service was good. But I dont think well be back.
Owner, long time HK Italian insists to follow tradition old mamis receipe. Lunch 100+ everday is a good choice. Smaller portion suits old folks like me. Current menu very nice stew beef.
Great food with great service.
Whilst it is a bit pricey, the staff here are always wonderful and the food delicious. I love how there are always different specials on the menu to try. And dont forget to get the staff to recommend you a glass of wine (or two!). Great for a low key night out.
Expensive, adequate, noisy and uncomfortably cozy. The good wasnt poor, but the cost wasnt justified.
Great food, great service!
Lovely mom n pop Italian in a cozy part of Sai Ying Pun. While the pastas are delicious, its the specials—venison stews, etc.—that really set this place apart.
Great homemade pasta and genuine Italian hospitality.. you cannot ask for more.
Top Italian restaurant in Hong kong
Cosy Italian restaurant with good service, ordered beef tartare and a beef broth for starters and two pasta for the main. Ordered half a bottle of house white wine.Beef tartare was good, but the sweet mayonnaise that comes with it really did not compliment the raw beef, it rather covered the raw beef taste.Beef broth was ok, since I have never tried other similar soup, cannot compareHome made pasta with shrimps with saffron cream, the cream was way too creamy and there was lack of saffron taste, and this cream really did not go well with the shrimp nor the thin pasta. And the pasta was not al dente for Italian standard. Very disappointedHome made pasta with ragu sauce made of 3 kinds of mince meat was also disappointing, the sauce was way too sweet and all I could taste was sweetness. Pasta was not al dente to Italian standard neither. The whole meal came to around $1200 HKD and it was very overpriced for the quality of food.
Disappointing. Have been to this place a few times but everything has gone downhill. Very overpriced and the food quality is so so, not deserving what you have to pay. Its one of those HK restaurants that make a fuss about homemade this and homemade that so that they can charge more but in the end the food is unimpressive. The waitress was a bit of a bother, a bit pushy as if she was trying to make sure we spent more money to compensate for the slow night. They used to have two shops, one of them having an outdoor area. But now that shop is being turned into a burger place, adding to the reasons not to return to Monteverdi.
Amazing atmosphere, authentic Italian and gorgeous food. Cant recommend it more 😍
Came here for a quick dinner. We ordered two appetizers and 3 different pasta dishes. Salad was fresh. Pasta was homemade, texture is nice, al dente but the sauce was too heavy and salty to our taste. Previous reviews were accurate - portions were miserably small. Service was good but really overpriced. $65/bt for a 0.75L mineral water for a (fairly rundowncafe in Sai Ying Pun is a bit outrageous.
Very delicious Panna cotta
Italia at its best!We had such a nice time, starting with a warm welcome from the staff + owner. The recommendations on food and wine were perfect and the quality of the food was outstanding: fresh ingredients (talk about home made pasta!), well presented and super delicious! We’ll definitely come back!
This is an authentic, and super friendly authentic Italian restaurant. Always an extremely gracious welcome and new, different and unusual Italian dishes on offer. Highly recommended.
Top Italian restaurant with a family run feel. The food here is really incredible. Starters, pasta, mains and dessert all have a unique edge to them and the wine list has been picked by hand to match the menu.Armando and Ibe who manage and host the restaurant have truly succeeded in keeping a homely feel to the place without compromising on anything else.
they have bread, soup, pasta and dessert for lunch.
Best Italian food in town.
Outstanding authentic Italian trattoria!Small and cosy restaurant that serves Italian cuisine at its best. The pasta is handmade and ingredients are so fresh. And it tastes so authentic Italian. You don’t get it much better!
My fav italian restaurant in town. Litten hidden gem run by a couple. Super friendly wife. The serve beautiful wine from Italy (bad thing is, their wine is special. I fell in love in one of them and couldnt find it else where in HK.They have best lasagna in town!
True Italian restaurant, another hidden gem in Hong Kong new Soho area.
Very tasty traditional Italian food
Friendly waiter. Italian boss. Hand-made pasta. Very authentic Italian food. Great nutty Napoli coffee made using flip-over drip coffee.
Best Italian restaurant in HK, homemade tastes with authentic and unique recipes
A place with a great service. Very personalised. This are the type of places that you will love to come back. Specially in HK where they don’t usually care about service. Plus, the food is great!
Lovely helpful staff and delicious food. Warm atmosphere and Italian staff. Was fairly quiet when I went at 9pm. Smallish rotating menu.
Old fashioned waiter service, one to one, they talk to you and remember you and the whole place is so very small. The Figs with Chocolate covering are FANTASTIC, the food is really home made good.A lovely European old time place, great fun
Very cosy and nice place with very passionate owner /operators; however the meals were quite pricey (servings were small for the price)
Cosy, warm Italian place with very homey, comforting food. Everything is lovingly prepared by hand. Serving staff are sweet, relaxed and know the menu very well.
Undoubtedly one of the best Italian restaurant in Hong Kong!
Friendly people. Good foods. A little pricey.
Delightfully quaint and Italian, in the heart of Hong Kong. The ambience and food take you to another time and place - it doesnt feel like HK is just outside the door. A family run place with a very homely feel.
Decent pasta shop, five stars!
Go for the fresh pastas which are great, skip the mains. The proprietor is very friendly and attentive!
Very charming location. Not very high end or posh but the integrity of the food is just so good.
