Hilltop medieval fort featuring ruins, a tower & church with frescoes, plus a sound & light show.
Is a amazing place, but is missing informations in English.
Very interesting!
30-40 minute walk from the main tourist area to the fortress equally as interesting.
A must-see if youre in Veliko, but be prepared to climb to the restored "patriarchs residence"
Part and parcel of Bulgarian history, a must visit for every Bulgarian. The walk is not too steep so its children friendly. There is a vending machine that has plenty of cold water. There is the possibility to get dressed in relevant kings/ queens clothes and have your picture taken for an extra fee.
Amazing piece of history along with Tsarevets, very well organised, lift to the top, can use the path on the way down 👍
Really is not worth visiting unless youre a super fan of archaeology and / or history. A very nice view of Tsarevets though..
One of the best historical locations in Bulgaria, a must see if you are visiting!
Wow! So interesting. Pay the $20 for an English tour guide for a deeper and more informed experience
Simply stunning.
Great views on a great spring day! Family ticket is only 6 leva.
Beautiful seroundings and its kept clean, the information boards were also easy to read
Experience is different depending on where you are from. Me as Bulgarian, not impressed. 23 not fully excavated ruins of churches with little to no information about them on the signes. You get a flyer in the entrance with numbers and a map with no explainations. There s an elevator that you pay 5 lv per person to use extra. The only good thing was the fully renovated tower and wall on the south. Great view. My foreigner girlfriend found the museum very illuminating. Detailed info but not much to see. Two things only can elevate this to a 4: better leaflet and a drawing of how the hill used to look so people get the context and don t just stare at rocks
Beautiful view, friendly staff! Pay attention to the schedule of the funicular!
Really beautiful place in Bulgaria.
Nice experience, you get to see a piece of Bulgarian history and artifacts.
Great historical site. Only reason for 4 stars is the fact that they havent dug and explored all the remains and reconstructed/preserved the rest.
More authentic fortress and not yet completely excavated. Details also in english which ia a great plus.
The views from the hill are spectacular. It is definitely worth climbing all the way up. You can find the ruins and restorations of over 17 churches and a touch of the second Bulgarian kingdom. It seems like an archeological site with great potential.
One must put a foot there. It smells like history and it so beautiful, especially in spring when everything is green. The view is amazing
Nice walk. Great view
Super nice place with excellent views on the city
Very nice view from there u will see all the city
Amazing + magnificent views
I expected less, but was nicely surprised from Trapezitsa. Mind you I love ruins and historical places, so I admit Im biased. We picked the one day the funicular isnt working - Monday, but the way uphill on foot isnt that bad. The price for adults was 6 leva for the fortress, never got to check for the funicular.Once you get to it there is a great view toward Tsarevets, especially on the terrace on top of the info centre. And then its pretty much exploring the ruins, some are better preserved, some not so much. There are quite a few churches, some of which with partial frescos.Excavation work was still going on and one of the workers pointed us toward where they were currently working.Everyone was really nice and polite and we had a great time.
This fortress pose as the capital of the Wallachian-Bulgarian Kingdom back in the 13th century. Impressive walls, buildings and panoramas makes this place a must-visit one for tourists found in Veliko Tarnovo. Highly recommended!
Great historic place with beautiful view
Amazing, special at night ☺️
Another historical place right next to Tzarevetz. Do not miss out!
Great views!
Its really beautiful place and you can learn the history of the city Drianovo
Best place in town! Grate views for photos, very clean, lots of tourists, nice church on the top of the fortress
If you like history, hiking and art, its a good place to visit.
It does look very nice from across the fortress, unfortunately it was not available for visiting when I was there. Nevertheless it did look well preserved and amazingly beautiful from afar
Great view towards Veliko Tarnovo. Good place for a walk, but not under the hot sun.
Lovely place. The light show is amazing. Check the programme online.
Not many things to visit, but a great place for pictures.
Nice place to visit, interesting historical remains.
Lovely quiet fortress we went out of season the beginning of May. Easy walk ways. Went to the Architects bar after where they serve Craft Beer, food along with a good helping of rock music.
Amazing historical place...you feel as if you have returned back to those medieval times. Take some water and sun protection in the summer
This is one of the three historical hills in Veliko Turnovo. Its a beautiful place with old ruins and churches as well as some beautiful views on the cityscape of Veliko Turnovo. If you are visiting the town, you should definitely get up here - it is worth your while.
Lots of ruins of ancient bulgarian churches. Part of the castle wall has been restored and can be climbed. The view over the city and towards Tsarevets is magnificent and worth checking.
Just amazing. Before you even get close to walking up to the fortress, you can see its size from a long way out. Once youre in, do climb to the church at the top for the best views of the city. If youre hoping to find some sort of palace, you wont find it. Its already in ruins.
Wonderful historical place for walks and taking pictures
Experience ancient spirit of Bulgaria. Great blicks to the city for photo sessions! Gorgeous nature surroundings! I recommend visiting with a guide, but in the late afternoon to avoid high day temperature.
I recommend it for tourists who want to explore the Bulgarian history.
Finally opened for visitrs - spectacular place with incredible view over Tsarevets fortress!
With a visit. Very cool to see the ancient ruins. Definitely look inside the church at the top too! Intriguing murals inside.
A place filled with so much history - buildings, artifacts and important events from so many ages ago ...
Truly impressive in size, superb views.
