Hilltop castle built in the late 13th century exhibiting historical paintings, furniture & weapons.
Trakoscan in Zagreb
Description
Cool experience back to medieval ages when the foundation of the castle was built. There are signs with some historical moments and a short flyer at the entry when you buys the tickets. Its well maintained and clean overall. Save 2 hours for a proper visit.
MoreAn interesting place to see. For approximately 5€ entrance fee it is pretty reasonable. Lots of old paintings, furniture, armors and weaponry. A guided tour would probably be better than wandering the castle on your own. The view from above is really nice, but unfortunately the lake behind the castle is gone. Taking pictures inside is unfortunately forbidden.
MoreBeautiful castle. Place without many tourist.
What a castle! "Dragon rock" is spectacular in every way... With or without guided Tour! Do not miss!
MoreLovely walking route around the lake with educational signage explaining the local flora and fauna. Cant wait to come back once the lake water has been refilled. Still a beautiful walk though in the meantime. We didnt enter the castle on this occasion.
MoreBeautiful castle with gorgeous nature around it. Lake is currently drained for next few months, but it still look amazing.
MoreGorgeous castle in the middle of a scilent calming valley
Excellent castle to visit with a self-guided tour through all the floors without big crowds. The views are exquisite, too bad there was no water in the lake due to drought. The entrance fee is very affordable. Kids enjoyed it as well.
MoreBeautiful castle with lots of historySome walkboards could have some repairs
Beautiful castle, perfect for a picnic or one day trip. The entrance is 50 kn and I think it should be a little bit cheaper considering what you can see inside and it doesnt let you go on top of the castle. Would recommend visiting in spring, since in summer the lake is dried up and you can not enjoy it properly
MoreAmazing price for amazing hotel and a gorgeous location! The only reason why it’s not a 5 star is because the mattress in the room isn’t the most soft (sort of hardbut other then that it was everything I imagined. It cost about €101 for a night with breakfast included and oh my the breakfast was wonderful! Friendly staff all around and lovely seating and also an amazing outdoor seating. So relaxing and I would definitely reccomend to anyone in Croatia and looking for a stop for the night. I would have stayed on other night but I was on a tight schedule. The food was amazing and so was everything else including the furniture and so on, beautiful hotel and I highly recommend.
MoreNice excursion to visit in one day if you are in Zagreb. We missed some good restaurant, close to the place ( next time we will take our own food, probably, because you can make picnic). It could be informed there s no more water in the lake( just a pitty). Its very surprising , discovering the castle while you are arriving and the landscape its nice. 😊
MoreBeautiful castle with rich history! So many architecture styles (romanesque to classicalto see in one place (and not just on the inside, but the castle itself).Youre not allowed to take pictures inside (I can see many people here doing it anyways, but its kinda sad to see that... ok do it, but dont share it - you literally have your name there :D).Even if you saw some pictures in reviews, its great to visit and see it all by yourself. The visitation is individual, you can take leaflet (there are in like 8-10 languages including English, German, Czech etc.or even a audioguide (we didnt take it, but i think its only available in Croatian and English - check their web). Pretty much every room has their own board with info and map with objects located there and their names - very nice to read and see! Boads only in Croatian and English.Unfortunately one thing didnt go as we planned - water in the lake was drained since the end of February 2022, but you can still take a walk around it.However castle is the main thing there and the park is just a free place to wander around. Toilets free.Recommended!
MoreOne of the most beautiful castle in Croatia, whit beautiful nature surrounding it.
MoreBeautiful castle from13th century. Lake has been under reconstruction.
Great experience. The Trakoscan Castle is in good condition, all rooms are available for visitors, good decorated and furnished. It takes about an hour to observe all rooms. There is a great view around from the castle. Unfortunately there was no water in the lake for some reason, otherwise it could be also amazing walk around the lake. Anyway it is highly recommended to visit the Trakoscan Castle.
MoreI was traveling from Zagreb to Varaždin and made a detour to visit the Trakoscan Castle. Its nice experience to visite the castle and nature around the lake. I bought the entrance ticket to visit the Castle, which is relatively affordable, converted from Kuna is more less 5.5 Euros per person. In one hour you should be the able to see it all and understand the castle history and how people leaved there. What I enjoyed the most was the views from above which you might not be to enjoy it if you dont access the castle.
MorePerfectly preserved ancient castle😁👍At the moment, they are cleaning the lake, but soon it will be even more fantastic😁👍
MoreTrakošćan is probably the best castle you can visit in Croatia. It is well maintained, well preserved piece of Croatian and European history and should be visited by everyone at least once. The only real complaint I have is that you are not allowed to take photographs inside, not even without flash. Also, there is a lake next to the castle for walking, enjoying nature and even riding some floaty devices across the lake.
MoreA historic monument worth visiting, entrance is free for the park around the castle and is amazing during autumn. The castle is a museum in which you can find and see a lot of interesting things about the family Draškovići who were the owners. You can enjoy a great view when on the top of the tower. Recommended for everyone.
MoreHere in Trakoscan Castls, is a oerfect place to spend the weekend. If you are tourist, you need to walk through the lake. Its a nace place and you will enjoy to much. For me was a perfect place to spend the weekend with the person i love. If you are a couple, here you will find good place to enjoy your time and taking some pictures. I suggest to you to spend at least 4 hours here.
MoreA very refreshing walk around the lake and then a cold beer at the restaurant.
If you like historical places and nature it worth visiting. The castle is well maintained and its a pleasure to walk through it. The view from the castle is very nice and there is a beautiful lake.
MoreAfter so many years, we have finally visited this beautiful well preserved castle and it’s surrounding, again.
MoreNice castle, about an hour away drive from Zagreb. Its a good way to kill a few hours, if you have time to spare. Otherwise, not really worth the trip.
MoreLovely castle, surrounded by beautiful forests!Right next to the slovenian/croatian border so if you are on the road, make the little detour, the windy street to the castle is already gorgeous.Entry fee is 40KN and you can visit nearly every room, but taking photos inside is forbidden.Parking is right beneath the castle, there are also vendors, a restaurant and restrooms.
MoreVery beautiful castle with a museum… definitely recommend a visit
Beautiful castle on the top of the hill, which is now museum full of great history items from croatian aristocracy in 15th to 19th century.Spend 2 hours for walking trough the castle and learn a lot.Around the castle is amazing forest park with 5 km walking path atound the lake, it is worth of this effort.
MoreWonderful, amazing place, just a step away from the highway, some kilometers from the Croatia/Slovenian border.A castle, which was a /Drašković/ family home, placed on a hill in a wood, just by a lake. Today its a museum that shows us how theyve been living that time... Parking is on the bottom of the castle, souvenir shops as well, so dont miss this romantic place.Castle itself is well preserved and renovated, exhibition is very intetesting, kitchen is a suprising part of the exhibition. View is a breathtaking, access to the castle pictoreus, with a nice small curch by the way. Youll enjoy this visit that makes you feeling like at your own home.Lake is same amazing story, so dont miss a walk around, or you may hire a pedal boat even. Entire place is ideal for a relaxing or romantic weekend. There is a hotel or private accomodation available.Pitty that gastronomy doesnt follow it as it was some years ago, although potential is great regarding family farms all around.
MoreLocated 1 hour away from Zagreb by car.40 Kuna per person to enter. You can only take pictures of the outside of castle., disappointing. Restored and furnished castle with a museum of weapons used over the last few centuries. There is a beautiful lake, takes about 2 .5 hours to walk ar around. Im only giving 4 stars because, having to pay and then not being able to talk pictures is disappointing. There is a bathroom on-site.
MoreIncredibly well equipped with actual, historical items and furniture. The castle and scenery are beautiful by themselves and the whole experience is difficult to explain. Definitely load the audio guide on your phone because it will tell so much more about the castle and the ruling families as well as how they lived, than you would find out on your own
MoreBeautiful 1.5hours sunny walk around the lake Trakoscan and ww found Easter eggs in one tree:). At the entrance everything was very clean, specialy toilettes:Museum tour is more than worthy 40kn, very charmy!
MoreA Croatian gem hidden by forest and hills. Turn off the sound on your phones and take a walk arond the lake to feal like a royality. Buy a ticket to enter the castle, and compare your livestyle with richest person at that time. Family frendly, there is also a restourant in the parking area.
MoreBeautiful place, lake is perfect for a long walk around ( at least 1.30 hourand if it was rainy before take good shoes for mud because you will need them!
MoreTrakoscan is a fairytale like castle that is worth the visit year round. It is an hour drive for Zagreb, so if you have time, make a day trip to it.
MoreNice castle in Croatia not far from the Slovenia border. Worth a stop in to see and explore. There is also a beautiful area to walk around a small pond and in the trees along the fairy trail.
MoreCastle that belonged to one of the most reputed noble families in Croatia, the building traces back to 13th century. Its worth the visit, about two hours away from Zagreb or less. Beautiful architecture inside and great views to the lake located next to the castle.
MoreThe entrance fee isnt expensive (40 kn for adults and free of charge for kids younger than 7). Its a lovely castle with ornate rooms. Its not interactive (as it shouldnt bebut there is an audio guide and the boards describing rooms and items are in English as well as in Croatian. There is a restaurant by the lake so once youve taken a stroll around the castle, its a nice spot to relax.
MoreBeautiful castle in breathtaking nature.Castle itself is worthy of a visit, offers amazing views and glimpse into past times. Also, I would recommend doing hiking trail around beautiful Trakoscan lake. It is an easy trail that goes through woods, follows lake banks, and takes cca 2h of a moderate walk to complete with occasional stops on some of 20 info points along the way.
MoreOne of the Croatian most visited castles. With normal price of the tickets you have hour-two nice tour of the place. If you are realy interested into details you can spend here whole day. Renovation is constant, but it doesnt bother you while exploring the place.Perfect weekend trip, with stoping for lunch near buy with local cuisine.
MoreSuch a beautiful castle with some great exhibits. The best part is the walk up to the castle. Such a memorable sight & something i will always remember. We managed to visit Varždin & Trakošćan on the same day with a nice long stop for lunch however, we were driving so we had flexibility.
MoreNice lake and a pathway around the lake through the wood. The castle is worth to visit, although they do not allow to take pictures inside, even witouth the flash.
MoreBeautiful castle in a beautiful location with stunning views. Lakes and walking tracks surround the catsle museum, and theres also a restaurant. Unfortunately you cannot take photos inside the museum.
MoreThe drive to the castle from Zagreb was so beautiful (avoid main highway and drive along borderthere is a lovely walk around the river, paddle boats and you can tour the castle for 40 kunaEnjoy a beer and ice cream at the cafe on the water at the base of the church!
MoreBeautiful small Castle and residence of Croatian middle age aristocracy, located on the hill above small lake, if you are looking for history monuments and beautiful continental type of nature this is must visit place in Croatia
MoreIts a beautiful castle on top of the hill, they were working on it, reconstruction when I was visiting. Its really cool to be there and enjoy nature around the castle. Castles are a torturing Chambers that shouldnt amaze people because awfulness happened there. Its nice to look at but it has a horror story behind it like every other castle.
MoreI had a fantastic Sunday visiting this place. The castle is well preserved, has fantastic views from the top. Once you reach the castle.....I love the technology that they have to scan the tickets, to use smartphones to have an audio guía.The toilets were warm and very clean. The only thing I dislike it is you can’t take pictures inside like any other places, and there is not a small train bringing you to the top of the castle... I’m thinking in the adults with walking difficulties. The parking spaces are not good.. you don’t have a pathway to walk so if ya a raining day you end walking on mud.The grounds of the castle are beautiful and relaxing
MoreVery nice Medieval Castle, pretty well preserved, located on a beautiful spot, sunlit from the early morning makes a wonderful photographer target. Guides available in nearby Hotel also called Trakošćan. Adjacent to a Castle is a beautiful walk-around lake with small restaurant with traditional food.
MoreThe castle is in perfect condition, there is something for everyone to enjoy while strolling through all the rooms of the castle. The view from it is spectacular and the lake is a dream for everyone looking for an informative beautiful 2-hour walk.
MoreBeautiful castle. It is worth seeing it. The interior is like in the fairy tales. You can visit only the garden (for 1Knif the history of the castle doesnt interest you. There are 2 restaurants: one at the main gate and one on the lake.
