Ruins of a once grand wood & stone pillared Roman bridge built in 105 AD across the Lower Danube.
Super OK
They spent one milion euro to build some old bases of roman houses...The best example how to steal EU money...Waste of time and money. The people how built the bricks didnt had idea even how to do it properly.
Great piece of history, unfortunately it looks in a disarray. It is surrounded by some kind of fence, no signs or inscriptions to be seen, nothing to tell the story of the place. The fence didn’t allow me to get close by the ruins, was a little house but I didn’t see anyone besides some lazy dogs.
Now is a nice and clean area. Definitely I would recommended it for visiting.
Beautiful. The view is very nice and its very interesting to see the history.
The bridge was built in only two years and at that time it was an engineering marble . If you like ancient history this place should be on your "to do" list. The restauration is now complete and the place can be visited as part of "Muzeul Portilor de fier" complex.
Dont follow Google Maps on the road directly along the river - it will take you to a dirt road and you cant visit from there. Go through the visitor centre / museum marked just north of the bridge. The museum is very well organised and the staff are super nice - great to support places where historical landmarks are well cared for. Also very impressive to think how they built the bridge 2000 years ago!
History
Horrible, not even paved road. A shame !!!
Under construction. Google maps takes you on a wrong way. Didnt see any signs in the city ( Drobeta Turnu Severin).
It is a nice monument dating since Roman Empire... Too bad is that still being restored , so you cannot visit it from close. Not much to see actually
The walk to Trajans Bridge along the railroad, starting at the far end of the Strada Nicolae Grigorescu, is actually quite beautiful. At Trajans Bridge itself, however, there isnt much to see but two archeologists at work.
Not much to see, except for the Danube :/
Ok
Must visit the museum near by. A lot of history to learn
Very poorly maintained and displayed. The bridge (the pillar actually since that is all that is leftwas surrounded by wooden scaffolding and you couldnt even go near the pillar due to flooding.
Nice. What remain from roman Time... Apolodor from Damasc bridge
Dissappoiting. I place with such a history should have a proper access to it and highlighted as it deserves. Also the surroundings are unwatchable...
Very impressive engineering feature, 2000 years ago. 1 km wide.....Built in 2 years.... No one in Europe could do comparable things today.
Nice place to visit 👌🙂👨👩👧
Under restoration, nothing to see.
Cool
The park museum is now open to visit after a long time under maintenance and refurbishment works.
A good place to visit at Drobeta Turnu Severin. Apolodor from Damascus was the builder of this bridge. It was a master piece for that time.
A realy old and famous sight left to fade away by the authorities. There is no sign pointing you here. The road leading to the sight is a very bad dirt road. When we finally arrived at the sight, we found a large gate saying "restricted acces". We went around the gate to find the ruins abandoned and surrounded by a wire fence. 😥
Its one of the saddest places i have ever seen .....It was build by romans 2000 years ago and literaly its abandoned. Its almost imposible to even get there because it s only a dirt road and bassicly you need to cross the backyard of someones home to get there.Such a shame not to care about such an amazing piece of history .
Amazing
Could be better pointed out by signs
Only the external part of the museum was interested for me. You can choose, when you pay the tickets, what part you like to visit. You could have a good view about how were the roman fortifications and the bridge. It is interesting if you like history.
Its interesting to 3 see how much history is in Drobeta
Nothing to see ... A little construction site, concrete everywhere.
Its more of a dump than a preserved historic site.
Dirt road leading to the site. Had to google to check that I was really at the right place because I thought I landed in a trash dump... Still worth going as it is quite unique
Power of the Roman Empire
Unfortunately the site has no thrill to offer. It is not very well preserved and for sure not well put “in value”.If you use Waze or Google maps to rich for the location, as I did, you’ll have a unpleasant surprise: the directions will take you to a unpaved road, on the Danube side, and you’ll see the site from a unpleasant location. There is also the possibility to see it from up stairs, but for that you need to cross the railway. Conclusions: if you love history than you must check this location, otherwise....
Huge historical landmark
Not really accessible as its in the middle of a restauration. Its part a larger museum complex that is truly worth a visit.
Its a disgrace how the authorities treat this piece of history :( the road is terrible and the place is closed and forgotten.
This monument can be seen by visiting the History Museum. Its part of the museums tour
Historical place. Could be restored though
Great piece of history.
To much garbage in the “back-door”
A peace of world wide history
Not great
An amazing piece of history, shared between Serbia and Romania
Looks like lord of rings statue.
It was closed today
+ the placement on the Danube shore is amazing+ Breathtaking view+ There is no access fee- there are no signs to guide you to the site- the road is unpaved, full of dirt when it rains- the site is under construction, no guide, no panels with information, nothing
The value of the place is incontestable but the road to the location is horrible and the site is a work in progress. If you dont mind going through a stoney road with wild vegetation, than go for it. Also, if you are by car you will see on your right the Danube and on your left at some point the Medieval fortress of Severin. There are also some nice restaurants and the view is quite nice. At the foot of the bridge, if you look on the serbian shore you can see another foot of the bridge that was built after the daco-roman battles in 101-102.
Not much to see. Visitor center still under construction - when finished much better!
