Town Walls, Shrewsbury SY1 1TN, Leek
14th-century stone watchtower built by King Henry III to protect Shrewsbury from Wales.
Really lovely grounds to walk around and trails to follow. No photos permitted inside the building which is standard usually, but that was also very interesting and grand. No wait really, particularly for National trust membership holders.
What a lovely national trust park. We have been multiple times and it is such an nice place to have a walk and chill with the family. Lots of ground, lots of grass areas for the kids to run around and play (bring your own toys/balls/games)If you time it right and go on the deer or WWII walks you will see a herd of deer and also a murder of crows! There is a nice cafe with a big seating area inside and outside.
Fascinating place for its walled gardens and walks. Very peaceful by the river. Excellent play park for the kids and terrific sandwiches.Bit of a doggy overload place but the owners were well behaved.Definitely returning to have a look inside the house, one of the more austere looking country piles available to view.
Fantastic day for our young family. We went in the week on a school day so our 2 year old had plenty of space to run around on the play field. Weather was nice so we took a picnic. We also had great fun searching for deer in the deer park and saw stags with impressive antlers and some younger deer also.
One of the national trusts largest properties. Enjoyable woodland and parkland walks, incredibly interesting house, especially the servants and kitchens. Ubiquitous tea and cakes served from the converted stable blocks.
Lovely day out, nice walk round the gardens and deer park and a very informative tour of the house.
Amazing place. Deer around d the grounds are exciting to spot. The walled garden is massive and full of giant squash and woven sculptures. The house is interesting - the basement was open with great facts. Cafe has great food and lots of seating space with friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
Our puppy loves a visit to Attingham Park, it is restricted where we can do due to having our dog with us but where we can go makes up for it, the deer walk is always our favourite. Everything is always nice and clean and tidy, staff and volunteers are always happy and helpful, we always love a visit!
Went here for the outdoor cinema experience for the Greatest Showman. Good lighting, good sound system, good signage to let you know where youre going and good stalls with food and refreshments. The cinema part is on a hill so youre guaranteed a good view, chair or grass. Wed go again! Parking is also super easy and theres plenty of staff guiding and directing you.
Wonderful National Trust site. Excellent parkland walks, great cafe and shop. Interesting history as a world war 2 airbase. Wonderful walks through deer park. Will return to visit house in depth.
Went on a week day and looked around the Mansion and walked through the Deer Park. The house is awesome and the details of the staff brilliantly told. We returned a couple of days later with our 3 year old grandchildren and headed for The Field of Play with no real idea what was there. It is utterly amazing and awesome on a dry day. Massive maze of huge straw bales, tunnels, swings and so much more spread out over a huge area. One of the best all round (all ageNational Trust places we have visited. Lovely sunny weather did help mind!
An 18th century estate for all seasons with 200 acres of parkland and Regency Mansion.
One of the best NT properties to visit. Rooms fully fitted with period furniture and paintings. Grounds including walled garden very picturesque.
Beautiful grounds! Well worth the trip. Lots of activities for children to do. Fabulous 1 mile walk. Would recommend the walled garden!
What a magnificent place. From the moment you arrive it feels and looks wonderful. The staff are extremely helpful and polite. Nothing was too much effort. Cafe was reasonably priced and extremely clean. Toilets were accessible and clean. The mansion was beautiful. Our highlight was simply being able to sit next to the river on deckchairs and watch the world go by. The deer park was wonderful and didn’t disappoint. If you want a day out with the kids , on your own or a romantic wander for two. This is a must go place. Love it.
Visited on a Saturday morning and it was busy but not overly busy. Friendly staff, many toilets, shop, second hand book shop, Large car park and a cafe right at the front when you arrive. The house itself is amazing and the walks, walled gardens and childrens play activity field make it a brilliant place to visit
As members of the National Trust, we go to Attingham frequently as its only a 15 minute drive away. Its great for walks, and there is an excellent Field of Play for children to burn of some energy, and plenty of parking. I often take my son here when were stuck for things to do. This summer they have a huge maze made out of hay bales. We had great fun there just a few days ago.
First visit here and very impressed, lovely courtyard area, staff/ volunteers very friendly and welcoming. We used the 1 mile accessible path with our own scooter, bit bumpy but doable. The walled gardens are well maintained and enjoyed the different grasses and the sculptures. Reasonably busy but no queues for anything. Well worth a visit.
Fabulous day out. Travelled further afield to explore another National Trust venue. Beautiful grounds, roaming deer, forests to relax in, croquet on the lawn. A really lovely day out.
Lovely walled garden with multiple deck chairs and hammocks amongst the specimen apple trees to relax in.
Very nice place to visit Its a national trust so join it will work out cheaper as there is other N T places near Shrewsbury. There are nice walks and Deer in the park. Restaurant is nice plenty of seats a bit pricey. Take your own food and drink to keep price down. Dogs welcome. Can get busy at weekend.
A truly historical and beautiful place to visit. And the park around it - stunning.
A real gem, the volunteers were really helpful, and the hall and grounds absolutely fantastic
Walked the deer park with friends.Lovely staff, especially while the buggy was busy elsewhere, a lovely NT gentleman brought me back to the courtyard.Thank you.
What a wonderful place to walk the grounds huge area with a few different walks to go on. Lovely seeing so many deers in the deer park.
Didnt get to go in the house but the grounds are lovely. Had 4 mile walk, deer grazing, some fab trees.
Very impressed with the breath of what was available to see including the Mansion building and walled garden. We had a lovely guide called Graham who was very knowledgeable and passionate about the Mansion building. Would definitely recommend a visit.
A very interesting house, kitchen area fascinating, they even had a male cook, yummy little cakes. Secondhand bookshop and cafe. The walled garden is beautiful and full of interest. Acres of grounds and level well maintained pathways of various lengths. For families a great huge play park, lots of lovely picnic places too.
We love places kike this with our kids, even better when they have a easter trail🙂 a beautiful place to visit
Lovely place, huge grounds to walk in and the house is really lovely. The staff know their stuff and more than happy to talk about the building and its history. Lots of trees and wildlife to see.Paths are quite clear, not muddy and most are smooth so no problem for a wheelchair or push chair.Plenty of benches to sit at during the walks and in the house.Loved it. Great day.
Great place for a day out lots of different walks some wheel chair friendly
Wonderful walks and a great house with lots of interesting history. The WWII walk is poignant and thevwalled gardens are impressive. Lots of friendly and knowledgeable staff on hand to answer questions and provide useful information. The restaurant is ok; they are understaffed (have been for a whileso service can be a little slow because only half of the serving facilities are open. The choice is a bit limited, sandwiches and pastries or cakes, but they sometimes make a one pot curry with their own produce which is fantastic. Just dont expect china cups or plates!Overall a great venue with plenty of parking and lots to see and do.
Visited for the snowdrops this time. The place is otherwise flooded! This is generally one of the better places, most of the year. Hopefully the cafés will improve their range of offerings now Covid is over
Attingham Park is clearly one of the bigger National Trust locations in Shropshire. It has all of the usual National Trust facilities, book shop, cafe, shop, wonderful house and adds a beautiful long walks and a deer park.If you are looking for wonderful walks Attingham is the place to visit.Kids: there is a large outdoor play area for young children and the National Trust often have extra activities for young children too.Accessibility: some of the paths are a a little uneven and parts of the deer park have no paths just short cut grass. National trust offer guests off-road style scooters to use should they wish.
An excellent place to visit with plenty of walks, a cafe and places to see looked after by the National Trust.
Lovely National Trust property - it always feels like theres great care taken with it, and the events are more varied than most around here. Its always lovely to spend an hour or two at, wandering around.
Extensive grounds ideal for easy walking. View deer in their natural environment through the deer park. Excellent facilities including cafe, toilets, gift shop and second hand bookshop where I could spend far too much time and money.
Nice property with well made walking tracks through the forest and deer park. The Christmas trees in the house were great. However, the house itself was a bit of a disappointment. For such a huge place, only a few rooms open and not as much information on the history and the family as I would have liked. But I appreciate its National Trust and they can only work with what they have. Huge walled garden that is being restored, amazing to think they heated the walls to grow fruit on. Overall worth the visit and very dog friendly, they are allowed pretty much everywhere but in the house itself.
Lovely visit for the Hubby’s 51st birthday nice afternoon lovely coffee ☕️ stunning Xmas trees and displays will definitely be back.
Excellent place to visit for the whole family. The house was impressive how it was done for Christmas. The grounds are superb to walk around with long and short walks. A place to be enjoyed by all.
Lovely day walking around and getting into the Christmas spirit. The house was decorated nicely with themed rooms and xmas trees. Nice shop with bits and bobs to buy, photo opportunity of the outside of the building was spoilt by scaffolding (no mention of this on website)
A great day out. The Manor was decorated for Christmas and looked lovely. A great cream tea in the cafe, walked off afterwards in the grounds. The boffy is certainly worth a look. Shame we got caught out by the rain and had to make a hasty return to the car!
A magnificent house at present surrounded by scaffolding as they are renovating the windows The walks around the park are great with amazing autumn colours. There is an oak tree there that is 650 years old!!! Planted by the landscape gardener refton. Relaxing and level walking . Deers in one of the parks and also cattle. Visit its worth it .
A reasonable visit in that the gardens are magnificent and spacious but at present the only level open in the Manor is the ground floor and lacks any atmosphere. Maybe call again next year and hope for better.
As always enjoyed a trip to the National Trust, didnt get in the house but the boys loved exploring the field of play with its tunnels, mounds, logs to climb etc. I enjoyed the walled garden with wide range of plants and flowers.
Absolutely beautiful place to visit. The surroundings are gorgeous and the mansion is amazing. Great things to keep the kids occupied too. Highly recommended 👌
Lovely day out at Attingham Park Estate. Been here a few times now, great walk around the estate. They have a park area which my two year old loved and spent most of the afternoon playing in the park area.
Beautiful estate, with some great views among its many walks. Play areas for the kids, cafe and good facilities.. whats not to like! Worth a visit.
Pleased we decided to visit on our way home today! We had a lovely visit and enjoyed exploring the grounds and basement of the mansion. There is plenty to see and do and we especially enjoyed the field of play, such a wonderful use of space. There are plenty of places to picnic or to purchase food. Our meal was delicious and fresh and the seating areas are cleaned between customers.I would definitely recommend visiting if in the area as it has plenty to offer.
We visited the kitchens in the basement of the house as this is the only part of the house open at present. It was an insight into life in the big house all those years ago.We had a very enjoyable walk in the grounds. You can choose a walk to suit how far you would like to walk.A very enjoyable day.
