38 E 2nd St, Reno, NV 89501, United States, Reno
Laid-back spot atop a casino with classic comfort food such as steak & eggs (24 hrs. on weekends).
Order a plate of Spaghetti with no meatballs - that was definitely THE Worst Spaghetti I have ever had ... the first impression was good however after a few bits it looked like someone just boiled some Spaghetti, placed on a plate and added a can of diced tomatoes on top - including the water from the can - Please the picture !!!!
Pretty decent food for a good price. Honestly, for the price to quality ratio compared to other restaurants in town, youre getting a helluva deal.
The waitress stood up at the register chatting with the cashier and other waitress. We had to ask for everything. The bus boy did more than the waitress. The steak was tough. I have never seen a waitress be so lazy. I am totally disgusted with the service and the food
I had the 8 oz prime rib dinner last night. It came with loaded baked potato vegetables and clam chowder soup. The prime rib was barely edible. Way undercooked and a lot of fat. The vegetables were definitely in a can for a very long time, and the loaded baked potato was cooked in a solar furnace! The crazy part is that this restaurant is a hangout for local Street people. There was one guy in there shouting across the restaurant to the employees who were shouting back to him various crazy things like matrimonial proposals etc. You can tell he was a regular. The restaurant stinks of smoke. It is surrounded by slot machines and chronic smokers, you get the idea. The employees dont seem to be very professional and are more concerned about their personal squabbles with the other employees than serving the customers. Yes it is inexpensive for some menu items but actually their non-special items are about the same price as other restaurants in the area. Bottom line if you want to eat in a dive, questionable food, questionable clientele, and really have a true Reno experience this is your place!
Saw ads for 5.99 prime rib and 8.99 steak and lobster all over the casino but none of that is on the menu. My prime rib dinner was like 28 dollars and wasnt very good.
Love my cal Neva. Was one of my favorite casinos even though its always been kinda run down. The dealers and all the staff have always been very nice.
This little gem of a restuarant is extremely outdated, and seems to suffer from its environment, being located inside of CalNeva, doesnt help its status at all. I know being open 24 hours is a difficult task, but we saw numerous employees not doing anything but stand around and yawn. The floors could have used a good sweeping, but no one bothered, anyway its food is outstanding and always hot and fresh, no matter what time you drop in, and the prices cant be beat. You can tell employees are trying to make the best with what they are working with. I will definitely stop in,next time I am in Reno, to support this little gem.
One of Renos many old and out dated casinos. Its mostly used by local, which I have to admit, can b a little scary at times. Drinks r horribly watered down but hey at least theyre free. If u get tired of the big casinos and want to take a walk on the wild side, give it a shot. I wish u luck
Good value. Unspectacular ambiance, but reliable food at really good prices. Friendly service, too. I eat here often.
Top Deck Restaurant inside theCal Neva Casino.More of traditional meat and potatoes diner.Open for breakfast,Ham and Eggs and omeletes.Good for lunch and dinner.Steak and Lobster for $16 from 11AMPrime Rib and Lobster $17.
Fabulous food excellent price
Came for breakfast. At first we didnt even get water for 20 minutes. Then when we ordered it took almost 50 minutes to eat. DO NOT get the eggs and Benedict
Server, Hunter, was great! Servings were small. Steak was overcooked with a large piece of grisle(?Drinks were refilled regularly. Larger portions or lower prices would help.
It was our experience that we were seated and after 10 min of waiting... the waiter never visited the table...so we got up and sat at the counter and it took 5 min for a waiter...never againSadly, its the only restaurant near Amtrak
Got the steak and lobster dinner for $15.95 and highly satisfied. A little difficult to find the restaurant in the casino if you dont know where it is but it was a very pleasant experience
We were in town for the day and chose to have lunch at Top Deck in the Cal-Neva. The place was clean and comfortable. It was not loud. We had a burrito and a steak meal. I have dietary restrictions and the waiter was awesome about understanding and having the chef omit specific ingredients. He even came back and asked about a sauce to make sure it was ok for them to put it on the burrito. I cant remember ever having a waiter be truly concerned about my medical diet. We were happy with our food and the burrito was so big I only ate half of it and took the other half to eat later! I would recommend.
Food was good, prices were really good, service wasnt too bad.
My wife and I had gone to the Top Deck with my parents several times 15-30 years ago, mostly for dinner, so wanted to give it a try for breakfast, after seeing the menu prices online and feeling it was mostly now a locals spot. We dont think it had changed much, if any, over the last 30 years. Service was good, but the menu prices were $3 higher for each of our meals than listed online. Her corn beef hash tasted like it was out of a can, we were hoping for something made in house, though it is hard to find. And my Big Win Breakfast was just as advertised, other than being almost 40% higher, as was hers, than listed on the website. It was a step back in time, a return to nostalgia, and a chance to see what Reno used to be like. The meal was OK, the casino was the same, but with some newer slots. We did spend 90 minutes gambling after breakfast, yearning for the days of Harrahs, Harolds Club, The Fitzgerald, Primadonna, Flamingo Hilton, and The Pioneer. Those were the days.
This place is a hot mess. But hey they have $15.99 steak and lobster. Got our order wrong 3 times. Everyone seems high as a kite or past drug users.Food was good tho. I visit every time I come to Reno .Pro tip order steak rare to avoid a piece of overcooked leather.
Our waiter was Josh!! Super fun and attentive waiter. The food was above our expectations also. So glad to see Top Deck shaping up. Loving it!!! Thanks Josh! (2 old ladies won $100 on keno❤❤❤💯.
I went here for ice cream and saw a special pn the lobster so I got both.
My fish was rubbery undercooked and not even warm because its sat in the window so long... Because of lack of employees... And the waitress the one I dealt with anyways no customer service.... Facial expressions show a lot.. I feel bad for very nice intelligent man that tries to run the place... Maybe try offering sign on bonuses or pay increase and lets try to get some employees in there
We were in Reno for a couple days and were longing for a cheap meal like you used to be able to get at casinos. Our Google search led us here. Hubby and I both had the prime rib which was surprisingly good. The mashed potatoes arent real though but they were ok. Id come back if I was in Reno again.
Food is reasonably priced and the quality is good. Steak and eggs for 8.99. Decent steak. Porcha was a great server. The chicken burrito is pretty darn big. The prime rib was a bit gristle. But again the prices cant be beat. One of the only places open late with in walking distance of the arch
Food was yummy satisfying. Wait staff was excellent.. clean. Attentive. Price perplate.. when I remember the cal neva being home of steak and eggs for 2.99, a $55 breakfast for 3 was expensive.
Actually I was visiting a one armed bandit, yet I haaave eaten enough breakfasts to be able to attest that getting a large packet sandwich served up at 3:30pm is really nice.My earlier revue commented that one who has not been to the Top Deck in Cal Neva is missing kinda like a rite of passage in Reno, NV.It is still open 24 hours I believe. Yet, I have lied before, Once! Oops, I just did it again.Since Covid pretty much everything has changed. I can guarantee that prices ar the Top Deck have gone up.Safe bet there right? What hasnt gone up.As a result of my going out on a limb, I will be having breakfast within the next two weeks at The Top Deck & revisit this review..The staff at The Top Deck has always been friendly & proficient. And at anytime I found myself at Cal Neva, its restaurants or bars over the past 26 years, I always had a good time!!So, if you find yourself downtown this summer stop in & see why Cal Neva has always been a locals place. Now hm-m "What am I having for breakfast?
The food was probably a deal but it wasnt that cheap. The medium rare steak was medium Very thin a little tough Surprisingly the lobster tail had good taste and consistency. The waitress I think her name was Portia did a phenomenal job especially since they were understaffed
The food is good. Reasonable price.
The food is pretty good here but the one day I tried to get a buffalo chicken sandwich and it had one tiny chicken strip cut in half served with french fries for $12 but other than that their food is really good
Big Win Breakfast is a good way to start the day!,Dinner was an awesome choice ofChicken fried steak mashed potatoes corn, with beef noodle soup!
Every now and then we get nostalgic about the old Reno, so we head over to Cal-Neva for a bite to eat.Generally the Steak & eggs. But this time I opted for a Popper Sandwich...Bacon, jalapeno peppers, pepper jack, cream cheese...and the topper was orange marmalade, all served up on grilled sour dough. It was really very good.My honey got the steak and fries, we always enjoy the steak! He also got a cup of vegetable beef soup... I am 99% certain its made from the left over Prime rib, it was so flavorful and the meat was so tender.Really attentive service and friendly employees.
We decided 2 go out 4 a Mothers day b-fast, n we figured 2 ck out the Top Deck at Cal-Neva downtown. Cant go wrong with an $8.99 steak n eggs Service was excellent ya gotta deal with a lilbit of smokieness goin n2 a casino but other than that great lil old school vibe n restaurant food was great as was the service
I dont really like this restaurant the servers are rude the place is a little ghetto too. The food is decent and the prices are low. Its near to my house though so I brave it...lol
If you like diner style food then youll love the top deck restaurant. Although their menu has been cut back over the past recent years, they still offer a nice variety of breakfast lunch and dinner. They still have their burgers and fries, prime rib and fries and steak and fries specials which are always a great deal but their regular menu items are also priced Right for tight budgets. The reason Im giving three stars instead of five is there customer service. The top deck weight stuff employees some very friendly people, unfortunately they also employed people who have no business in the customer service industry.Food, value and overall pricing is five stars. The serving staff receives one star that. If youre not in a rush and have time then I would highly recommend top deck, you cant beat the value and the food is great diner food.
Always good food. I go here every time. Thanks Top Deck
The meal was great. Steak cooked perfectly! Affordable, around 15 bucks plus tip. I was still hungry afterwards....😩The restaurant was fairly empty, my service was good.
I absolutely loved my experience at the top deck restaurant after not being in Reno for 12 years. The customer service that I received two days in a row from a young man named Jared was absolutely fantastic. He was the most personable treated me very well and we’ve had a few good laughs. Considering I’m 68 years old and he’s probably not more than 30 you should knows how to make anyone feel welcomed. Excellent excellent service.
First off a employee was literally holding someones dog up on his chest right at the door then find out that he was the table cleaner. I didnt enjoy him keep walking pass me and the possibility of dog hair falling into my food or drink. And wait till you see our glasses of wine. Im dead. ILL NEVER EVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE.
The wife and I are somewhat at odds with the attributes of the Top Deck in the Club Cal Neva. It is very dated looking but still has the old Reno vibe. It is clean and well kept. The service staff was friendly and attentive. We were never wanting for anything, kind of.The prices for most of the menu items are extremely competitive. Of course, the beer prices are unbelievably low. Does that equate to poor quality? We believe not. The side salad, though small, was crisp and apparently fresh. The blue cheese dressing was to my liking. Everything else was better than okay except the steaks. I expected a small cut of meat and was not disappointed. The problem lies in the preparation. We ordered medium rare and got very well done. Meat was brown through and through. So just order rare and pray.We will go back because the Top Deck is such a bargain. Who doesnt love an inexpensive meal out?
I enjoyed my food from here and the service was great also 😊
Steak and lobster was good. On a slow Tuesday night, service fell a little short.
This is a nice place to go for a good meal. Its a little loud. The wait staff is good.
This is the bar in cal Neva. Service was eh, bartender was kind of blah and bland. He served us what we ordered. We ordered bloody Marys and they were pretty good. We continued our day in cal Neva gambling. Had a good time, waitresses came by often which was a plus. I like good service. That made us stay longer.
Steak was mediocre but was ok for the price. The burrito was great and huge albeit had a few pieces of crunchy rice in it but you get what you pay for so for the price I cant really complain. Definitely would recommend it if your look for something cheap
We were trying it coz we heard the review was great. Turned out it is great for the price, but you get what you paid for. I swear the food was prepped/cooked a long time ago and they froze it and just microwave it to serve (steak and lobster). Even the salad, they chopped and mixed it maybe yesterday. I dont think anything was fresh, but again theyre quite on the affordable side. I dont think it tasted bad, but it wasnt the best either. Definitely not coming back for the food. Not so much for cleanliness either. I took a picture for the fun of it. I thought it was a joke, especially during the pandemic.
First time in Reno for a layover, happy I trusted the reviews. Amazing deal! 9 a.m. on a Thursday. Fast seating, very friendly service. I had the country style which was delicious ordered a biscuit to mix with the gravy. My girlfriend had the breakfast burrito which was out of this world. I would highly recommend this place especially for the price! 5.99 and 6.99! I had a 4 dollar mimosa brought from the bar. Cheers!
I ordered the steak and lobster special. Side of toast, bacon, and hashbrowns. Everything was good but steak. It was like a burnt rock. Everyone at my table ordered the same special and their steak was cooked as bad. However, at $9.99 I didnt expect too much. If we all complained they might have fixed, but we didnt want to burden the waitress. The lobster was small but delicious. Their drinks are limited in the restaurant and you can order from the bar. The bar is actually limited too, compared to other places. The staff were really nice and helpful. Everything was good, except for the our steaks. I might go back again, if someone I was with really wanted to try it.
The price is why we come. The food quality is decent. The wait for seating is long. We waited for 45 min. The service was quick. Order the food come in 10 min, With no mistake. Never see the waiter again, my cup coffee is empty. The prime rib is great. Hamburgers was too dry. Lobster excellent. Pancake is fluffy. Over all is great. Cant complain much because great value. will go back again
$9.99 surf n turf (lobster/steak, fries or mp)! If the ac was working well, this place would get 5/5 for value. M’lady got the fried shrimp, which was good too. Surprise! Keno too.
For the price, I would give it 5 stars, but the quality of food is mediocre. I would eat here again tho!!During my stay in Reno, I visited Top Deck on two separate occasions. The first time I got the meatloaf, which I would not get again. The soup & Salad was good. The second meal that I had was a grilled chicken caesar wrap, which was very good. The service overall was alright the first time & beyond perfect the second time. The second waitress was fantastic.I would definitely recommend this restaurant, but don’t recommend the meat loaf.
