Tomukun Noodle Bar in Ann Arbor
Description
Privilege
Not bad not great. My rice was mushy though
We waited outside in the cold for an hour, which totally negated the food being pretty solid. Legitimately the worst service Ive ever experienced, this side of a rude server. Just not attentive at all.
MoreGood ramen place in Downtown Ann Arbor. They are usually very busy so expect around 30-45 mins wait during typical busy hours.
MoreI honestly think this place is overrated. While the food wasnt bad, the ramen I had seemed a little flavorless aside from the extreme amount of salt. Some of the starters are good, but after trying this place a few times I can say its not for me.
MorePHENOMENAL PHO!!! The richest, most soul soothing broth I’ve ever had. The oxtail is buttery heaven, the crispy pork added to the pho is outstanding. The pork bun was awesome, as well. So worth the hour drive.
MoreOrdered the Duck Udon and the Yaki Lo Mien. Noodle and broth on the saltier side. Need to have plentiful hydration after the meal
MoreCame here for pho while I was in the area -- ordered a bowl of their chicken pho. Delicious! If I come back to Ann Arbor, I will be hitting this place up again!
MoreMe and my friend was waiting outside at the Tomukun for Tomukun BBQ. We didn’t know which store the tables are belong to. Two stores(Tumukun noodle bar and Tumukun BBQare right next to each other and there are a few empty tables were available outside. After 20 min, our table at Tomukun is still not available. But, there is a waitress walked out from Tomukun Noodle Bar saying, “since you guys are still waiting, we actually have customers waiting for this table.” I understand that we may need to move to another waiting area when needed, but it should be a nicer way to say it. Her tone is really rude and make us feel so not welcomed. Will never return nor recommended to any of my friends.
MoreReally great duck udon, my friends enjoyed their ramen. The pork buns were STUPID GOOD!!!The service was just ok, hence the four stars. We had to flag them down any time we wanted anything, including to place our initial order. Dont go here if you want quick intuitive service. They were polite and nice, just not attentive.
MoreI normally loves this place, but on my last visit here I came by myself. I placed my order, an appetizer and a meal. One couple was then sat on my left then and and shortly after another was seated to my right. I place my order and wait, my food took a very long time to come out, so much that the people who orders after me got there meals before my appetizer came out. The appetizer I had was very good, the pho itself was also good, but the side of bean sprouts that comes with it were old and soft, with little gnats flying around it. Overall the only times I saw my actual waiter throughout this experience is when he was helping the tables next to me or dropping off the food. At this point I assumed it was just an off day and that things might be busy, I didn’t get my bill u til the couple that was say to my left had already finished and paid, when I looked at it they included a 18% gratuity on it. This didn’t make sense as I was alone and not with a large party, I thought maybe it’s something they were doing to everyone but I asked the people next to me if they had a gratuity on there bill and they said they did not. I asked a passing food runner about it and he said he would check, he came back and said that this was something that they do for single diners and that the gratuity will be included in the check. So the reason I was pretty much ignored the whole night was because my waiter knew he was already getting a tip. I’m not the kind of person who refuses to tip, unless the waiter or waitress did something to make me angry I would still be tipping 20%. I think tipping is stupid in general and food service workers should just be paid a living wage, but the fact that I received poor service simply because I was dining alone upsets me.
MoreThe soju cocktail literally gave us stomachache… the barbecue next door is very good but the noodle bar is somehow very disappointing. Not sure what they added in the drink.
MoreWhat a great place. Their Pho broth was amazing. Their Tomukun Ramen is pretty good. Service was extremely fast. Make sure to come hungry and wear stretchy pant. Their portions are large! My daughter doesnt like anything in her Pho so I took all the meat with my ramen and it was fantastic!
MoreExcellent service, solid ramen. The selection is great, and everything was cooked to perfection.
MoreYummy ramen. My favorite is the tomukun, generous amount of delish pork belly. GREAT portion size and efficient service. The only reason 4 stars is I wish the broth was a little more rich
MoreI love various noodle soups, and Im willing to drive an hour each direction to eat at this place. Ive considered offering them a large sum of money to let me eat there once a day.
MoreBrought the wife down here for lunch. It was so good. Wife is already planning to go back even though its 45 min drive for us. The wings were great and the ramen was amazing.
MoreEnjoyed it here! The chicken Kara’age was really good! Had a nice sweet taste to it. The tofu Bibimbop was also good. Outside seating available.
MoreTomukun was super busy when I arrived (a Monday evening), so if youre planning to go during peak times, be sure to make a reservation or expect to wait about 15 minutes. It seemed that their main seating area was full so we were seated in the adjacent cafe which was possibly (?also owned by them.I ordered the Kimchi Jigae and the portion was huge. Overall the food was good, but not excellent. They have a pretty good variety of options. Service was quite slow and our waters were not refilled.
Morethis place was great! really tasty food, wish i lived closer so i could come back more often
MoreWe ordered hiyashi ramen and tonkatsu&rice. Tonkatru was OK. But, hiyashi ramen sauce was too sugary. The one you can eat in Japanese also has sugar but has other flavor too.
MoreVery bad ramen soup…. I ordered hiyashi cold ramen but the soup/sauce is purely rice vinegar… the pork belly taste like stone and TOO HARD… there is also a green onion root on top of my noodles….
MoreFood was delicious, the pho was very ginger heavy and the tempura appetizer buns were the best dish we had there.4 stars because they seated us in a superate room than the restaurant and it was awkward
MoreDecent on campus noodle bar. Curry is pretty good and enjoyed the pork belly buns, although the filling to bun ratio was a bit off. The pork and chicken katsu were a bit dry and hard to eat. Pork definitely > chicken. Happy with the portions, service, and overall vibes.
MoreTaste buds were extremely satisfied by the end of dinner. We had summer and srping rolls as an appetizer. My wife wife had the creamy pork ramen a nd I had the Tomukun ramen which were both delicious. The Tomukun had prok belly which was excellent. Both broths were tasty.. I absolutely demolished my ramen because of how it tasted. Definitely will be back when we visit again
MoreDelish Ramen and Pho options. The Asian BBQ wings are impressive.
The food here is always delicious. The pho tastes fresh and the appetizers come out quickly and are fun.The reason I only give four stars is that we received lettuce in two dishes recently that was old (reddish, turning colorsand had a small bug in it. I know this is hard to avoid for a restaurant, but its also pretty unappetizing, you know?
MoreI initially was happy that any menu item could be made vegetarian. However, when I received the pho ramen with tofu, the tofu had zero taste and felt like rubber. It had not been marinated and was way over cooked. The pho broth I got was very bland and there was no option to add chili oil to add more flavor. The server we had barely checked in on us while continuing to check in on tables around us. There are many other noodle places in the area that are better than this for a similar price.
MoreThe Tomukun Ramen is quite bland, lots of noodles and only a little meat/veggie. The soup itself is okay, but the noodle tastes like it has been just thrown into the soup, and has captured no flavor of the soup. Overall I dont think the Tomukun Ramen tasted good, 5/10 at most.
MoreGreat place in Ann Arbor! Went on a Wednesday night so luckily there was no wait. Completely understand the hype!Ordered the edamame which came hot and seasoned perfectly, the fried shrimp bun which had a slaw with it (absolutely amazing with the right amount of spice)! For the main dish ordered the Pho. Huge portion of pho with a generous amount of noodles; the broth had a great aroma and tasted delicious. Will definitely go back again’
MoreGreat place, ramen is very filling. It does get busy, but if you go at the right time you can find a place to sit. The lunch specials are great, and the spicy oil is a great addition.
MoreNice menu with variety of pho and Ramen. Tried the spicy beef Ramen and a few appetizers. Simply delicious and consistent food offerings. Speedy service and kind, attentive staff.
MoreThe portion were large and the food was delicious! The server was friendly and our food came out quickly. The interior aesthetic was very pleasing and I would go visit again if im in the area!
MoreThe portion was more than I can personally eat and the price was fair. The food tasted fresh 🤌 and delicious. The only complaint I have is the waiter would run around so he was hard to catch and would run away when we werent done ordering more drinks. It also took forever to get our check. I would definitely come again though. If you read my reviews please follow me on google reviews. Thank you 😁.
MoreWe were a little tight on time for a 1PM appointment. Happened to stop by this restaurant since it already had a fair amount of customers. Ordered the $10 lunch specials. So good! So filling! So enjoyable ! While we were tight on time, we left the restaurant satisfied and we made it in time for our 1PM appointment. Bravo!
MoreI went to this place during the pandemic and i loved that they had out door seating avaible on the side walk with heaters(witch they moved closer cuz we were cold 😊 I had the seafood bowl with was really good my friend had a chicken bowl i highly recommend this place if you love ramen. only down side is that i had to get side of boil egg and it wasnt soft boiled witch i think should be in every bowl of ramen 😂😂😂💯💚Ive returned to the place and its has its up and downs everytime but Id still recommend on going here ✌️💯 🍜
MoreI love Asian cuisine and this is another amazing spot in Ann Arbor. The chow fun with shrimp is my favorite! The portions are huge, I always have leftovers to take home! I also really like their shrimp bao.
Moretomokun is my go to for ramen! their noodles are the perfect texture and flavor. I always get their butter corn ramen with chicken broth instead of the original pork broth. its so good!! their takoyaki and calamari appetizers are also so yummy. their tomkatsu is made perfectly too
MoreVery good noodle bar in Ann Arbor with delicious food. We all had ramen and noodle dishes and all were great. We got to eat outside and were in and out quickly before weather came in.
MoreNot written on their menu that the standard broth used in all ramen is pork broth!! When I asked them to switch the broth because it was not written on the menu they made a big huff out of it. The service was terrible and the staff is lazy they just sit together not doing anything. Waitress never checked on us once - she didn’t even come back to take the bill from us. I won’t be back until they fix there menu - it is deceptive and I am really disappointed. I frequented this place a lot because the ramen has always been delicious but I have only encountered rude customer service.
MoreEverything we tried was really good. Good portions. It is pricey but for the taste and portions we were happy. We took 3 teenagers with us and everyone was full and we left with take home. Staff is friendly and they leave you alone so you can eat. Seating is a bit snug.
MoreOne of the better spots to grab dinner in Ann Arbor. Great Asian apps and HUGE bowls of ramen / pho. So tasty, quick and filling
MoreGreat prices for the amount & quality of food you get! I got the Pork Buns and Tomukun ramen and I would suggest both! My boyfriend got me into Naruto so seeing the adorable fish cakes irl made me geek out just a little, lol. Super delicious and a great place to stop!
MoreWait staff was great. The food was as good as the wait staff. We tried allot of different items each was unique and had different flavors. The BBQ on an open flame was my favorite part you would get unique flavors depending on how you come each item. They offered several different suffices so chanting them up for different meats was quite a unique experience.
MoreThe foods in here is not the best in my standard. But pretty much above average taste with very affordable price in the town. There is only one thing to note tho. This restaurant might not be good for families or co-workers dining together as the restaurant is usually full of tables and have to wait really long unless you can sit in the bar.For ramen lovers, the soup base and boiled egg in here is not authentic. However, the pork belly they use is one of the best taste and texture I have ever eaten! Their corn topping is really great too like home made style.
MoreGood Ramen place in Ann Arbor, with a friendly and welcoming wooden decor. Tried the Spicy chicken ramen (in chicken broth), the udon noodles in Thai green curry and the Pork belly buns appetizer. Spicy ramen was really great, I would have preferred more vairety of veggies but the brother itself was good, udon curry Noddles was okay.. noth the best green curry I have had.. and the Pork belly buns were great! We also tried the Gekkeikan Sake which was really tasty. All in all, a decent ramen place to try. They do have other ramen options in beef, sea food, pork in either the pork or chicken or miso broth.
MoreThe restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly and informative. After you place your order, they bring out a variety of side dishes. Some are very spicy, so be careful. I ordered the short rib soup (galbi tang), which is impossible to eat with just chop sticks. I asked for a spoon and was given a serving spoon. When the waitress came around, she realized I didnt have a proper spoon. I asked for a knife, to cut the meat and fat from the bone. I soup was very tasty, but it took a lot of work to eat. My wife ordered the chicken stir fry, which was too spicy for her likes, but was very flavorful.
MoreGreat price and you get a good amount of food for what you pay. The pork buns are a must! Theyre fantastic. We had the creamy pork ramen and the spicy chicken / beef and everyone said the spicy ones were the best. Pro tip: if you finish your noodles you can ask for more
MoreIt’s an interesting place, and similarly its interesting on how people rate/review a place, and why would they like this place or dislike this place. When you go to a restaurant, the most important thing you expect is good food, and this place misses “Good Food”.We had a wait for 40 mins. It’s understandable and wouldn’t complain on the wait as it is a college town, and it was Saturday night. The waiting area/tables near the door are not planned right. The tables near the door are an afterthought. Anyways, we get to our table, and bunch of people are walking around us elbowing us and our table. I don’t blame them, because there is no waiting area. We order the appetizer and it was decent, and wouldn’t complain much about that. It had a good basic taste, and i was ready for the entree. The entree came in a huge bowl, which was maybe good for like 3 people. One of my biggest pet peeve is when i go to a restaurant, i go there to eat, and not for carry out. I have a decent appetite, and would love to have food on my plate that i can finish, and not take a carry out for next 2-3 days. But i understand why people like the carry out, because that’s considered as a second meal. However that’s not an idea of a restaurant. You don’t go to a restaurant expecting a carry out.Food wise, the appetizers were decent, and the entree was bad. It was missing flavor, too much quantity, and was something that was just done quick to get us out of the restaurant because of the wait. I like fast service, but not at an expense of taste. I understand this is a college joint, and not a fine dine place, but it could have been better.Again to summarize, good appetizers not so good (badentree.I don’t like to write a bad review, but I’ve seen that this place always has a 30+ min waiting time, and i had to get this out. Hope it helps.
MoreExcellent food every time!Pork buns (delicious pork belly wrapped in fluffy dough), calamari (squid stir fried with sweet and spicy peppers), Tomukon Ramen, Pork Katsu & Rice, Curry Rice with side of Pork Katsu...dumplings were gone before I could take a pic! Comfort food!
MoreLove tomukun... Probably one of the best noodle bars in southeast Michigan. They have a great selection of ramen, pho, and other great Korean dishes. I for one love the corn ramen. It has such an amazing creamy flavor brought out by the corn. And lets just take a second to appreciate their carry out. Everything is packed wonderfully and separated accordingly so you dont end up with overdone Noddles or soggy meat. Cant say enough good things about this place... On the flip though be ready for a wait at peak dining hours and there are several cell services that just cant make it through there walls
