Tomukun Korean BBQ in Ann Arbor
Description
Privilege
If you haven’t tried eating original Korean food and Korean restaurant experience, this is the place to go. Brought my extended family here for a meal two weeks ago. Everything left excited and content of this unique dining experience. Although the normal dishes off the menu that we tried were fantastic, letting your waiter guide you through the bbq experience is the way to go.
MoreThe food was excellent, but be prepared for a long wait. We came on a Thursday evening and it was an hour and a half wait. Our server was very good. The only reason for 4 stars was the wait.
MoreEverything was excellent- food quality, generous servings, efficient and courteous servers.
MoreFavorite KBBQ in the town, delicious meat combo with refillable rice, salad and side dish. Cannot say enough good things about it!
MoreStill my favorite spot in Ann Arbor since they opened.Get the takoyaki or the okonomiyaki if youre in a group for starters.
MoreHost experience in the pm, Asian women and Indian male. Told us two different wait times and spoke in a rude manner when we came back to ask again. As the guest we should be warm welcomed and assured, not an unprofessional tone just because you’re having a bad night. Not a people person, don’t work in customer service positions.
MoreWe order pho. And it wasn’t even that good. Too much noodle with little beef and the beef broth is water down. They didn’t wash the noodle down cause you can taste the starch. They didn’t even give enough vegetable either. Brought my 2 year old son there and they gave us high table. We ask if they have a chair and he was just underneath the table… what a joke. And the chair is a joke too. It’s a stool and I almost fell. The spoon they gave us look like a scoop spoon. Who came up with that idea?
MoreFood here is always amazing. My server Missy was very attentive and helpful! I highly recommend checking this place out!
MoreFood was good, we cooked it to perfection, however the staff was rather rude and unwelcoming. Proper protocol would be explaining to everyone, whether they are newcomers or not, how the operation works. Never showed us how the grill worked or even asked if we wanted anything to drink other than water. Mediocre experience, would not return. Rather overpriced food for a poor dining experience, too.
MoreFantastic experience, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. This was my second time here and it was good to see the service issues we had the first time were no longer a problem
More5 Stars 10/10 good bbq. the salad you get for three dollars extra is unbelievable. Fun to cook the food yourself
MoreThe selection of meats and ban chan is great. Combo 3 is advertised for 7-9 people but we got it for a party of 6 and we were all nicely full after.
MoreWe had an awesome experience. No wait, Sunday at 3pm sat right down for a party of 3. Server was a bit slow and overwhelmed but the food made up for it. Bulgogi is a must, very tender and marinated perfectly. Shrimp Kampoonki was excellent, spicy with a hint of sweet. Will definitely be back!
MoreMy best friend took me here for my birthday and everything was just fantastic. Our server was attentive and very kind. He made some fantastic recommendations. The wing starters were killer and the bbq short ribs were mouthwateringly delicious. I will absolutely be back in the future.
MoreThis place is so good I went with a larger group of friends and we got the Korean barbecue. We ate so much and were all so full yet there was still food left over. For several of us it was the first time we ever had Korean barbecue and we loved it!
MoreThe food was fine. Pretty surprised when they didnt have eggs in tteokbokki but it was fine, it still tasted good. The waiters and waitresses are overall friendly... Will be back!
MoreWent during lunch grabbed a combo. Was decent. Nothing amazing. Ive had regular meals at other kbbq places that were on par with me grilling the food there. Chicken wings were not good. Heavily breaded. Its a cool local spot. They have a noodle shop right next door. Theres outside seating, multiple grilling tables and non grilling options. Staff is nice. I would gladly go again but for their grill. Check it out. There are tons of kbbq options in the area too.
MoreWe had a horrible experience with this restaurant. We had been planning a big birthday party for months, and we had touched base with them more than once about a reservation. They told us everything would be perfect for our large party. 15 minutes before, we called ahead again to let them know we were getting close and they blew us off and said it would be a 2.5 hour wait. Terrible way to treat customers.
MoreSolid Korean barbecue joint — great for groups, dates, or anything inbetween. Wait time can be a little bit if you don’t call ahead, but we love their meats and sides.Bulgogi is a must, Seoul Mule was tasty and ginger flavored. The servers are happy to help give you instructions or answer questions!
MoreI was disappointed with the reviews I saw. The staff was nice but the food was average. The fried chicken had no flavor.
MoreA unique dining experience! Makes an average griller seem like a master. Does require interaction with the grilling process, but almost impossible to screw up dinner.
MoreIt might be ok for KBBQ but the Korean Army Stew was a flop 😩...but if youre already going, GET THE FRIED CHICKEN with Soy Garlic sauce appetizer. That was it, fam 👌🏼 I wish I had just eaten that as my whole meal. I would have been happier.DINING EXPERIENCEThere was a 1hr 10min wait for a KBBQ table, so we opted to wait 20min just get a regular table for two people. The table we were seated at was awkwardly located with high chairs behind where I sat.Service was ok. Slow start.FOODThe Korean Army Stew was watery and lacked flavor. It was more a soup than a stew. My friend said it wasnt supposed to be like this. It was fun to watch it cook.We had some drinks, which was nice. Our appetizer, the Korean fried chicken with the soy garlic sauce though SLAPPED ❣️
MoreMy spouse and I have been here at least 4-5 times it never disappoints. I recommend getting at least 3-4 meats and a beer! Staff are nice and attentive. It is on the pricey side but that’s for a reason!
MoreThe portions are big. We were 15 people and ordered the option for 7-14 and there was a ton of left over :)amazing food.
MoreCame here on the recommendation of a work colleague when I told him I was going to be in town. The food and Service were absolutely phenomenal I couldn’t have asked for a better lunch experience. The food was delicious. Great selection and the prices were very reasonable for the amount that you get.I will be coming back
MoreNot the best Korean food Ann Arbor has to offer but the experience is very fun. Unfortunately if you look up at any point the ceiling fixtures are absolutely caked in dust and filth. The place was filthy and made it a lot harder to enjoy the food. Not bad, but not worth waiting an hour and a half for a table. If you want Korean, I recommend Kangs on South U instead. If you really want Korean bbq it’s serviceable.
MoreEdit: 02/12/2022We finally got to eat at the barbecue side of Tomukun. I can say the it was delicious...We intended to have barbecues but we ended up in the noodle house and it was too late when we realized it. The noodles are not really that good in my opinion!
MoreThe food was amazing. Full of flavor and tasted authentic. However, the service was VERY disappointing. The server never came back to check on us after serving our food. He also took forever to come back with our check and to-go containers once we were done with the meal. I would understand if they were busy, but that certainly wasnt the case here.To make things worse, they add a mandatory 18% gratuity to your check regardless of the number of people in a party. Highly disappointed with this dining experience.
MoreI will never order bbq meat in this restaurant again. The scum is everywhere in the spicy pork and the beef, barely edible! Apparently they made this in a hurry and didn’t really barbecue the meat. We feel so disappointed and end up with throwing away all the stuff we’ve ordered.
MoreThe atmosphere was mediocre, they were very busy though. The pork buns were sensational, in every way. The okonomiyaki was good. The cheese took away from the dish I felt. Also of note about the okonomiyaki, its listed as an appetizer but it is a big dish. The tonkatsu was very good! Very crispy, the sauce was portioned nicely. Will go again!
MoreI havent had good Korean food in a long time, so I decided to give Tomukun Korean BBQ a try. The food was truly delicious and full of flavor. Even though they were busy, the food came out in a timely manner. I will definitely come back!
MoreThis place was perfect! Deserves all the hype. Cooking the meat was so fun and trying all the different foods was exciting. The food was very good quality and the customer service was exceptional. The beef brisket was amazing it was like butter melting in your mouth. I got the beef brisket and the Marinated ribeye. Definitely worth the price. This place is super fun with friends. Once you go to this place you won’t be able to stop going. This was my first time and it won’t be my last.
MoreAmazing experience! Tried it for the first time and absolutely loved it! Perfect way to share a meal with friends. Also, huge thanks for a Lychee Martini recommendation! 🤩 Awesome drink, didnt make it to the photo 😂
MoreAmazing food and service!!! The host, Alberto, provided outstanding service and was very friendly. We highly recommend this authentic Korean restaurant.
MoreI wish I could give them -10 star.I ordered food on the phone, I talked to the first lady to get food and she seemed busy didnt get my name, didnt tell me when I could pickup and hung up. I called back talked to another guy about the food and just wanted to leave my name and what time I should get my food, he passed the phone to another girl and repeated my order. All I wanted was pork stir fried with NO KIMCHI and the last server I talked to said they could make it happen.I found out that I have to pay $27 for my food when I picked up and after talked to several people (also the server that took my orderthey realized that they misunderstood on what I tried to order, of course! Because when I tried to order she didnt even care and just hung up. The lady who took care of me when to the kitchen and talked to a cook, she seemed very upset, I could see everything because she didnt wear a mask, she looked at me and tried to change her attitude after she knew that I was looking at her too, but really it was too late.I was there for almost 20mins the lady who took my order never came and apologized or say anything. And for my food I asked at the very beginning if I can have it without kimchi but its okay if they already mix it together and the lady told me it have done that way already and I didnt mind that.Got back to my hotel AND ALL I GOT WAS ONLY KIMCHI, I COULDNT FIND ANY PORK BY MY OWN EYES! At first I thought it was a mistake again, they probably gave me a wrong bag, but then I found a few tiny pieces of pork, smaller than you can imagine. Is this really how they do?Im working in restaurant industry and went to so many places all over the place. I had fantastic experiences and also bad ones, but I would say Tomukun was giving me the worse nightmare for all my entire life! I dont really know what food taste will be like because I didnt get pork but only kimchi. Unprofessional cook and server and to be honest, they were not that busy at all.The lady who took care of everything I know she did what she could, thanks to her but the rest....
MoreThis place was great went with 5 people so was a party of 6, their current max per table because COVID. They dont take reservations but you can call ahead and they can add you to the waiting list if there is a wait.It was hard for 6 people with only one grill. This place could have been better in that other places like in chicago and vegas offer an all you can eat option, also we only got one set of tongs. We asked for another but again at other places usually everyone gets their own.It made it a little hard for the everyone cook their own and eat thing. It would have been better given fewer people like a 4 max per grill or more tongs issued at the beginning. The food was great though and you get a lot.
MoreFood was really good, we did the combo with 2 meats and it was very filling for 2 of us. The only thing was that the service was very slow, took 15 minutes before someone came to take our order and it took a long time before someone came to check on us. Food good, service could of been better.
MoreOverall great meal. Ordered the 2 combo with marinated beef and beef brisket. Plenty of food for 2 people. The sweet potato noodle appetizer was so yummy, but we had a lot of leftover food. Service and staff were great!
Morethere’s indoor and outdoor seating, you have the option to sit and cook your own food or you can have it made for you . it’s a clean, nice place and i suggest getting a combo. the beef brisket was my fav. the fresh ribeye was decent but definitely lacked flavor, get the marinated option. overall was a very nice experience
MoreA really interesting experience and definitely a good place to eat with your buddies. The meat is extremely fresh and it certainly doesn’t get any fresher than grilling it yourself. Love it and will definitely come back.
MoreVery happy with my first experience here. I was with a group of (rowdyten people and our waitress handled us like a champ.FOOD: We were given plenty of banchan, a pile for each side of the table, which gave more than enough to go around. Our appetizers came out in a timly fashion although our drinks did not. But! We did receive all our drinks before our meals came out.Once we got our dinner, let me tell you - it was HELLA YUMMY!!!! Very good Korean dishes.SERVICE: As I said, our waitress was a champ and juggled all our needs throughout the night. She gave me a container for my soup and when I asked if she could pour it in instead (as I would have made a horrible messshe gladly did so.PRICE: Very fair for what youre getting. Drinks were a little high but I think in the middle of a college town youre gonna get that anywhere. They do automatically add gratuity into the bill. I dont know if they did it because our table was big, Ive heard of that from some places, but either way, Im not upset. It wasnt a high enough tip so I was sure to add on some more for our waitress who did such a good job.OVERALL: Id definitely go back over and over for that food and service!
MoreVery authentic Korean BBQ restaurant in Ann Arbor. We went on a Saturday night with no football game, but there was still a 90 minute wait at 6pm, so get there early or be prepared to wait. If you do want to wait, they will take your cellphone number and text you, so you can leave and come back.We did not have 90 minutes, so they offered us a seat at the bar, with a full menu, but no BBQ grill. The food was very good, the wait staff was knowledgeable, and the service was quick. Overall, a great place to go, but make sure you block the time off to fully enjoy the experience
MoreI was pleasantly surprised by this place. I’m a big fan of their soon tofu but not really the cold noodle. The bulgogi spicy pork was flavourful with a decent portion. I don’t recommend their seafood pancake as it’s a bit bland without the dipping sauce.
MoreWaiting about 30min to be seated. The wait was absolutely worth it. The selection of meats was phenomenal. I highly recommend the ribye and short ribs!!! Would highly recommend for a date night or just a fun dinner!
MoreNot a great experience here.We arrived around 8:30 and they gave us a very uncomfortable table at the entrance where everybody were just walking thru. The waiter was like he already wanted to go home, not paying attention to what we needed. I am not Korean, I ordered a cold noodle soup and when I tasted it I didn’t like the cold feeling so I asked if that could be warmed up, they told me that’s how that dish is supposed to be.I understand that but I don’t care, if I want it warmed up that shouldn’t be an issue for them, everybody eats different.Again, I’m not Korean, I’m not used to cold dishes and they were kind of rude about it.At the end I couldn’t eat my dish because they didn’t want to warm up my noodles. Finally someone in charge came out and didn’t charge my dish on the bill but he was blaming me that the menu said it was a cold dish. They don’t understand that when it’s the first time trying a new kind of food from the opposite side of the world you are open to try it but if you don’t like it you are not to blame, neither they are, but they have to understand that not everybody is Korean and some other people may need to do something weird for them to their food to like it.
MoreDefinitely one of the best Korean BBQ joints in the area. The sides were on point. The salad was one of my favorites. The meat was very well marinated. Overall this place will give you nothing but a great BBQ experience. The tofu stew and steamed egg were also the must-try. It gets real busy during peak hours on the weekend so expect 1+ hour wait time. If you want to get some real Korean BBQ, look nowhere else, this is it right here.
MoreIts a nice place. However it has always been busy when Ive been there so calling ahead is always good. I usually come here for the ramen and some appetizers, but my friends get a few different things they say is good. Ive been here 3 times havent had a bad experience yet and the servers are good even with 6 people groups.
MoreBest ramen in Michigan! Also the shrimp buns are probably my favorite thing on the menu. They need to make this into an actual meal 😋
MoreFirst time in a Korean BBQ and it was a great experience to share with other people. Excellent food, martinis and service.
MoreThis place is a great place for BBQ. I would highly recommend going as a group as the portions are quite large. If you enjoy BBQ this place is a must try. Dont expect your usual BBQ experience, this place makes it fun while being able to eat good food. Dont forget to order some soju!
