Tombs of the Nobles - Historical landmark in Kawm Umbu, Egypt
Tombs of the Nobles in Kawm Umbu
Description
Privilege
It is a rocky mountain located on the western bank of the Nile near Aswan. The height of that mountain is about 130 meters and it has carved tombs for the nobles and priests of Aswan from the era of the ancient Egyptians. Also located on the southern top of the mountain is the tomb of a Muslim saint named "Sidi Ali bin Al-Hawa", after whom the dome was named. It is a white domed mausoleum visible from afar, as well as the remains of a Coptic monastery (St. George). The high carved tombs can be accessed from two sloping roads towards the Nile on the eastern side. The tombs of the ancient Egyptian nobles are located in three layers at a height in the middle of the mountain.[1] The number of tombs from the era of the ancient Egyptians exceeded 100, and about 1,000 people, men, women and children were buried in them; Most of them date back to the Old Kingdom and the New Kingdom. The tombs of Qubbat al-Hawa are distinguished by the fact that they were for the nobles and governors of the Nuba region and the notables working in that area from the era of the pharaohs. Its decoration engraved on the walls gives pictures of the usual life in the days of the ancient EgyptiansScenes of slaughtering cows, visiting relatives and friends, fishing, hunting birds, arrow bearers, musicians, and others. Among the most important of these, molds of statues were also found, which the ancient Egyptians used to cast bronze and other metals such as gold and silver, and to make statues of those metals. These complete casts were found in a large pottery flask that was placed next to the sarcophagus of Sobekhotep in his tomb at Qobat al-Hawa. Sobekhotep was a governor of the Elephantine region during the reign of Senusret II. The ancient Egyptians mastered casting bronze and precious metals such as gold and silver. The statue of Pepi I in the Egyptian Museum is considered the first large bronze statue from the era of the Sixth Egyptian Dynasty 2300 BC. Our conception of bronze casting in the era of the ancient Egyptians is complemented by images found on the walls of the Meriruka tombs, about 2300 .
MoreVery interesting, but better to visit, early morning.
Tried to go but the "guard" pocketed my cash and said that I never paid him.
Had a great time returning to the source and visiting the Tombs Of The Ancestors. Wonderful views and super spiritual energy for those who are truly connected.
MoreReall view good place
The oldest tombs in Aswan dating back to old and middle of Pharoah period
Another fabulous place to explore in Aswan. We were the only people there. One of the employers opened the tombs for us - there were 4 that you could visit. Really interesting tombs dating from the Old and Middle Kingdoms. The guy who opened the doors asked for his tip - really not sure why they bother having entrance fees in sites in Egypt!!Note: We took a camel ride up to the monastery and then onto the tombs. Cost was 250 EGP each. (Initially they wanted 300 EGP each). It was a pretty uncomfortable ride as the camel men also jumped onto the camels so there were two people on each camel and not really enough space. Dont think the camels enjoyed it much either!!! We were also asked for a tip at the end.
MoreBeautiful nubian tombs in western aswan . No bazaars just nubian hospitality. Camel rides to the top available as well to take you the tombs and around to the mausoleum.
MoreGot nearly scammed as always in Egypt. We were told the place was closing and police were coming. If we wanted to go anyway, we would have to pay. Yeah, sure. We found the normal entrance fee, paid… someone. And got up there.Beautiful view with the sunset, the tombs have colors. It was our first tomb visit… the Valley of Kings would come after.I recommend the spot for the view and wonders.Ps: Never ride a camel… they are not treated right.
MoreThe place is so cool
Nice view on Aswan
MoreThe best place in Nube, Aswan, you must go all the mountain to take pictures up there, you can take a camel, you can go by stairs you will see all Aswan from the top, after that go to tombs of the nobles very amazing, then drink the Nubian cofee not the regular one it has a different taste, like heaven, the people there make your trip breathtaking
MoreNa pobočju hriba (zahodna stran Nilanasproti Ashuana je v puščavskem, nekdaj Nubijskem kraljestvu, več arheoloških točk. Grobnice plemičev so večinoma iz časa starega kraljestva, plemiči so bili povečini lokalni veljaki, nekateri so svojo pomembnost utrdili s trgovanjem in odpravami izven egiptovskih meja. Enostavno dostopno, vse grobnice niso odprte (nekatere vam oklene bližnji paznik v zameno za nekaj funtov...), vse niso niti še raziskane.
MoreI loved it 🥰😍
high and nice place to see the whole nile width
Good view on the top of the valley
One of the greatest places Ive ever visit
Through the tombs of the nobles, you can see the highest place in Aswan and you can also take the best pictures ever
MoreGreat place. But pool was VERY COLD!
Great view when climbing the mountain.
MoreTombs of nobles in the area. While many of the tombs are not in as great a state of some of those in Luxor, they were still very impressive. The view from the top of the mountain, as a panorama of Aswan, was also worth seeing. There were quite a few good paths. You could take a camel to the top, but it was easy enough to get to the top, and see the tombs as well.
MoreVery nice view from the top. Tombs are not fantastic but still worth to see. Landscape is the reason to go.Camel ride to go to monastery 100egp/person
MoreAmazing
Fabulous place 👌.
Old and Middle Kingdom and so beautiful mountain
A very wonderful day
really nice place with Amazing view
Tombs of the nobles, is a historical place thousands of years ago was built as a royal tombs.
MoreAwesome scene from above over whole Aswan, the idea of building these tombs over these heights is incredible
MoreNice little hike up a great viewpoint overlooking the city. About half an hour up if you are fit. Be aware that the first half consists of decent stairs, but the second half is just a sandy path, which can be challenging for some. Start is the stairs at the end of the main road(marked by a load of camels), opposite a ticket office. 60 Egp for foreigners, 5 for Egyptians (residents depend on persuasion skills). Theories differ whether the small building all the way on the top was meant for security or religious purposes.
MoreCosts only 60 so worth the visit. But not particularly impressive if you have seen what Egypt had to offer. Also it’s a bit dangerous and I saw one man nearly fall which would have been a serious injury. A big climb to the top so be prepared
MoreThe best view in West Aswan
One of my favorite places in Egypt. Aswan is simply tied with Luxor as youre spoilt with so much history and culture, but wow, Cairo is a place like no other! I guess, its a equal triple tie then. Spent a lot of time relaxing in feluccas in Aswan and you simply must not leave, without experiencing the beautiful Nile in a felucca, looking at everything from afar gently swayed by the waters. I miss looking out to the Tombs of the Nobles every day. Catch the public ferry the Nubians catch to visit the Tombs.
MoreVery interesting site with magic sunset view on the Nile and Kirchener island (botanical garden. It includes the Old Kingdom, 6th Dynasty (2255-2246 BCtomb of Harkhuf , an official and explorer for the Royal Court, with its autobiography written in hieroglyphs. This relates even the famous story about the pigmy he found in the land of Yam and which caught the interest of the young Pharaoh
MoreLocated on the highest point in Aswan, they are only remains, with no scriptures, not worth the effort of climbing the mountain the best thing is the panoramic view
MoreDont ever leave Aswan without taking photos on this place

MoreTombs of the nobles people.
One of the best sites in Aswan to take pictures. You can climb on foot or by camel. Camel ride is about 100 EGP in Jan 2019 but it depends on your negotiation skills. Climbing up to the top where Abou Elhowa is located is challenging but worth the trouble because of good scenes. Go 1 hour before sunset is best.
MoreGreat place
Great place & great view
Nice place and have many steps and you can see the Aswan and mixing between Nike , desert and green land
MoreIts nice, the view is really good from up and it doesnt cost much
Awesome place
