Tokyo Japanese Steak House - Japanese steakhouse in Bristol, United States
Went for an impromptu birthday lunch for my daughter. Food was delicious, prompt, staff were friendly. They did a birthday dessert and sang for her, which was unexpected and very nice. We didnt even know they were open (outside is a little deceivingbut the friends we were with suggested it, thankfully. They werent busy, so food was prompt and delicious.Prices are on par with the other Asian restaurants in the area.Only advice I could offer staff is possibly for them to park their personal vehicles in the front parking lot to help give the illusion that theyre open from the road. I personally liked that it was almost completely empty, but that cant be good for the owners.
You people with negative reviews should be ashamed of yourselves. This restaurant was EXCELLENT. Excellent service, chef, host and food was very tasty and enjoyable. I give more than 5 stars. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Will be going there again. For the negative people who posted these reviews...maybe you should go to McDonalds.
Great food! They cook the food right in front of you! Its always a great experience and very delicious!
One of the worst meal . Put the tip on ticket without asking
Amazing experience delicious food even entertained our toddler
The food is really good! The staff is super nice. The building needs work inside and out. Its kind of dark when you walk in. That said, I will definitely get takeout again. I hope this business lasts but if they dont put money in it soon Im not sure it will.
Otw was horrible .. the rice tasted funky and the meat was rubbery
Worst Habachi we ever had! The outside looks run down and its not much better inside. The food wasn’t seasoned, the steak was cooked more then well done and we ordered medium rare. Imitation shrimp is what you get. The free soup is just a broth. The price is not okay for what you are being served.
My daughter loves their food! They cook it right in front of you. They have a really neat fish pond right in the middle of the restaurant
Prices are great, and food is great! Cooked right in front of you! Always fresh
The food is decent but the restaurant has gone down hill.
I got mixed feelings about this place. The soup taste like them hospital chicken packs. No one in our party drunk it. The crab Rangoon’s weren’t the best so my kids ate it. The shumai were average but too oily. The chef cooks with a lot of butter and a lot of oil. He didn’t seem to know who order what. I came 5 hours away and picked this place to stop and eat but the menu is so different from what we are used to.We ordered sesame chicken and the chicken has no sesame. The steak Nd brócoli and the yukonomini are the same kind of speak. No salad with our meals and no ginger sauce. The carrots are super sweet and I’m not sure if they are soaked in sugary water or steamed with sugar sprinkled. They charge extra to add onions, broccoli or zucchini. My scallops were cut in 3 to make it look like more 😭Domt recommend and will not return. Food only taste good if you smothered it on yum yum sauce which was the only thing good tasting.
This place has gone downhill so fast that its got warrants out for unpaid speeding tickets.Undercooked meals made by unkempt staff that insult customers to each other unknowing that white people can be bilingual too. Also, they include a tip that cant be removed on the bill.
Worst restaurant experience ever. The waitress was rude, so was the hibachi chef. The steak tasted old. So many health code violations. Chef flung hot oil on my husband because he was slamming down bowls on the grill. The other food was okay. $70 for 3 people, and they add their own "gratuity" which would be fine if it were a quality service, but unfortunately it wasnt.
Great food and prices are great for the quality & quantity. Thanks Tokyo Japanese steak house
Great experience. I have eaten here several times. I have always had good experiences. Chef is kinda quiet but did a great job. Food was good and prepared well.
No.. the stoves were uncleaned. The hibachi chef had a waitress helping him cook. He put our food in bowls (which got cold by the time we got itafter he cooked it and left it there for 20 min + at a time. They were not sensitive to food allergies at all. The soy sauce was kept in a used wine bottle. Im not sure how this place is passing health inspections. I would love to see how organized and sanitary their kitchen is. I understand in this area its not many places to go, but it’s unfair to the people who choose to eat here. Simply, unacceptable. To anyone managing these reviews: you are not SORRY I FEEL this, I know it to be this way. Also, I expressed my grievances with you in the restaurant without resolutions.
The food was absolutely amazing. The wait staff and cooks were fantastic. If you liked Kobes youll love this place
The outside of this establishment is lacking however, DO NOT let that keep you from stopping in. Food is very tasty!! I will be back!
Pros:Unique food flavorsAttentive wait staffCons:Little to no chef interaction at grillAlbeit the food has its own unique flavor, it is bland
Stay away. Food, service, building - everything was bad. The cook fixed one item at a time then set it aside to get cold while he did something else. The meats were cooked first, then rice, then the appetizers, then the vegetables last. All the meats were overcooked, and the vegetables were raw. It was not a good experience. Do not waste your time or money here.
Food was great! There wasnt many people there. Staff was very friendly. Food was cooked perfect and delivered promptly. Will return soon.
Amazing food, the coy fish pond inside is a wonderful touch. Everything was clean, the service was incredible. Will be coming back !!!
Love this place! Chef is shy but if you talk to him and show him youre open he will interact. Food was delicious and well worth the price. Dont let the lack of customers fool you. Clean, good environment, very friendly timely staff. They even brought us an extra dessert as a courtesy. My kid loved the koi pond. Will be coming back!
The food is great if you can get lucky and catch them open. Which in not sure if there is any rhyme or reason to. Don’t think about calling something in. There will be no answer. Food was great. Would be a great place for a Japanese steak house.
This place was once awesome, took my mother out recently for her Birthday and it seems like the lack of business has taken a toll on the place the last few years and Covid hasnt help. Super friendly and very repnsive staff. If they could get people rolling into the place again the potential of being awesome again is highly likely.
No cooking method for show, orders made incorrectly, burnt rice and noodles...ice cold sake. Would never return or recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Food was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. Reasonably priced. The reason I didnt give 5 stars is because the cooking show was uneventful and boring. No interaction between the chef and diners.
While the place is in need of an update... nevertheless the service and food are great!...the cook and waitress are not loud and flashy but do an excellet job of serving excellent food and taking care of your needs...lunch menu is an exceptional value
Absolutely horrible!!!! The first time we got this and took home our food was spilled everywhere in the bag, sauce everywhere, got all over me. Just now after I talked my bf into giving them another try, There was a black hair tangled in my food, not just on top but it was literally all mangled in it. Gross, Absolutely Disgusting , called to tell them about hair and man said there was no way there was hair, we don’t have black hair and I have a pic for proof. No wonder no one goes here anymore . I’d rather eat mcds
Food was tasteless. Only saving grace was that portions were big yet you could tell the use of low quality oils for meat. Only one chef for all restaurant, by the time my plate was done, half of it was cold. Waited over 45 min just to get cook to our table. Others behind us were waiting a lot longer. Service was bad to top it all off,. Will def never visit this place again. Save your money and go to mcdonalds better.
We are lunch on Tuesday for a birthday. Our family gathered around and watched the chef cook. Good was fresh and good.
We took our 5 year old and 8 year old there because every hibachi grill weve ever been to before were kid friendly. Chefs at these places traditionally play games and cut up with the children. This guy didnt do that. He never spoke to us while cooking. He didnt even acknowledge our kids. For this reason we wont be back.
Good food. Great service this past year...love this night crew! Dessert, salad, food, cookies, soup and appetizer. $12-15 per adult....kids same for 8.5. Go to this place
Dirty Tokyo has slowly gone down hill. The parking lot is always empty. The owner is rude, mean to her staff, and has ran her thriving business in the ground.the feeling we got was "dirty". We were greeted, not warmly, but matter-of-factly. The remainder of our visit was generally okay. Short man was direct, not cordial; food was good, not memorable.
Walked into a really clean and friendly facility. Food being prepared in front of you makes it taste that much better, and the price, well it was not bad at all. Very good food, well priced, good times.
The service was wonderful, even after my daughter spilled salad in the floor and they gave us a brand new one with no complaints. The food was great and the restaurant was very clean. We will definitely be back.
New management needs a little more training. Chef had difficulty during the entire meal. Way too much sauce. We had to remind them of the vegetables. Probably will not go back
Clean and updated! Service was excellent, food was excellent. Last time I was here I said it would be the last. I saw they had cleaned up the place and gave it another try. I was not disapointed!
Just came from Tokyo Japanese steak house had an excellent experience. Very pleasant staff the service was fast, food was excellent & the chief was super nice. After preparing our meal he leaves the table to return with a plate of orange slices with a beautiful pink flower i believe to have been carved from cabbage laying in the center of the plate. that made my evening and I will be dinning at the Tokyo Japanese Steak House again in the near future. And again Thanks to all the staff for a nice evening of dinning.
An entirely unpredictable experience. "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get." sometimes the food is life altering, sometimes disgusting. I would normally deal with this if it werent for 5 star prices, they also add gratuity to the bill, even if its a to go order.
Im not redneck enough to leave reviews half as ridiculous as the rest of these, though if I had paid better heed to these reviews prior to going its quite possible I would realize not only the quality of the service and staff, but that of its patrons. Most of "yall" "reading" this will need to consult what we call a "dictionary" or "thesaurus" (no, this is not a dinosaur). My first mistake was thinking in any way that this restaurant was related to or in any way comparable to the brand name Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse. This place is not much better than a gutter heated by a crack pipe lighter especially when you consider the company youll keep and the service you will get.I called today, a Saturday, to place a reservation for dinner this evening as Im used to this necessity when going to places like this in every other city, state, and really instance of dining at a hibachi restaurant like this especially on the weekend (even in Cleveland, TN where Im from mind you), and when I said, "Id like to place a reservation for dinner tonight", she said, "OK". I said, "Well its for 3 people..." and was interrupted by her saying, "Oh thats fine, you know this is Bristol (TNlocation right?", should have been my first clue, then I hurriedly gave her my name before she clicked the receiver hanging up on me.Once there, we were sloppily sat at our table across from two horrible women talking expectedly (again I was raised in the southvery racistly and making fun of the people they were about to order food from and to my great dismay, two horrible men were sat in between us not long thereafter also talking racistly (quite sure this isnt a word, but doesnt get spellchecked and fits perfectlyand of course the older, more rude and disorderly man was 16 sheets to the wind prior to sitting down. The younger man seemed like he would normally be reasonable, but with his companion (Im assuming was an authority figure over himthere he was relegated to the same ridiculous, muted in his case, behavior.Thats just the atmosphere. We were here on dinner and as I expected, were going to pay more for a better show and food in return overall. The food was passable (at best), and I dont really blame the cook, in fact, I feel sorry for him. Im sure he wouldve done a better job and put on a better show for my boys had the 4 imbeciles that were carbon copies of every other person in the restaurant werent openly making fun of how he spoke i.e., "hes saying Ching Chong...etc." ...blah...All that wonderulness to be looked at like a crazy person when I asked for "Mustard Sauce" (those of you that dont know this is a standard offering at these restaurantsor "Ginger Sauce" or "Hot Sauce" (the same could be said for these twoand was basically forced to only have "Shrimp Sauce". This is also called "White Sauce" at other restaurants, but here is ONLY SAUCE YOU CAN EVER HAVE CRAZY PERSON THAT DOESNT WANT GLORIFIED MAYONNAISE AS THEIR ONLY SAUCE. I like white sauce. In addition to normal sauces. As my two sons and I wanted to pack up and leave this place as soon as possible we asked for to go containers (3 times before getting themand sauce containers. Its so funny that for the 3 of us our horrible waitress kept coming up with (2as the quantity for our sauce containers. After finally giving in to my request for (1container per myself and two sons (the only 3 people in our party), she literally complained and tried to suggest that I go to the chef cooking at another table to interrupt him cooking and get my 3rd small container of sauce, finally huffing and puffing and doing so herself. Mind you, this is 5:30pm at a place wth less than 3 tables and none of those full in the entire restaurant. On top of all this class and grace and fun atmosphere, this wonderful waitress added a MANDATORY GRATUITY for my part of MYSELF, AND TWO YOUNG SONS!!! A gratuity that was not stated on any menus, the joke of a "reservation" or in person. Sad my minimum gratuity is 20% and this waitress got the 15% she added instead.
Dont go, just dont go. If you love your wallet, your stomach, and your sanity, then dear god eat somewhere else. The food was OK at best, the staff was distant and unlikeable. The other customers there were obviously insulting the staff and other diners. They were the stupidest type of people, not understanding the terrible service and OK food. Also, the staff will add a gratuity for any amount of people. Finally they only have the most American sauce, white sauce.
This restaurant is truly redefining what it means to craft the finest asian cuisine. There is no price that can be put on the incredible experience I had at this establishment. I can not even describe the care and effort every waiter and employee gave to me as their valued customer. This phenomenal young lad named Alex made my experience more than just a meal... it was an unforgettable memory. Bravo lads.
Probably the best Local restaurant in Bristol. The husband and wife that owns it are the ones who cook and serve the food. They are always very friendly. Especially the husband. They have the grills right at your table and he tries to put on a small show for you as hes cooking. He is a very good cook, probably been doing it for a lot of years. Theyre also very clean. Its a good place for a family
We have been going to Tokyo steakhouse for several years and have always enjoyed it. I went in tonight to get an order to go and asked that the mushrooms be put on the side and the rude older woman told me there would be an extra charge to do that. Really!!!! I just walked out after telling her how stupid this was. Think we will find another Japanese restaurant to go to.
I have been going to this restaurant on and off for about a year now and its always the same experience.... as soon as you walk in its an older woman who is at the counter she pretends you are not there from anywhere between 10-15 minutes then finally she takes you to a table, and is always SUPER RUDE about your drinks I cant tell you how many times she has stuck her finger in my drink slamming it down in front of me. GROSS. Surprisingly she takes down orders for food correctly and then disappears, dont expect a refill on drinks either lol. The cooks are always nice, very quiet but nice, and my order has never been messed up..then comes time to pay, once again older woman at counter is RUDE pretends you arent there while you are standing in front of her to pay..finally you can pay and leave. Lol same experience 30+ times. The only reason i continue to go is the cheap prices.
I was very impressed. Great food and service was amazing. Very polite people and it was my first time and I got a free soda and extra rice that I ordered. 100% will go again
We arrived for lunch on Monday following Mothers Day. My daughter and grandson thought it would be a great Mothers Day gift. We were the first people to arrive. We were met by a very nice lady who seated us and got us settled in for our meal. Our chef came out to prepare our meal. First of all he tells us we are to f###ing early. Then he starts singing Monday Monday Monday whatever whatever. Sounds crazy doesnt it. Other people start arriving. After meal is cooked he slings our food at us. Not even hitting plate. My grandson asked for teriyaki sauce. He begins to squirt it all over his plate. Other people were saying that he scared them. It was the worst experience we have ever had in a restaurant. He was extremely rude. This was one of our favorite places to eat. But because of the treatment we received we will not be back. On top of that the appearance of the restaurant has gone down considerably.
Great food, friendly staff, serene atmosphere. Food prepared fresh right in front of you! Went for my 1st time today for lunch, will definitely be back!
