A nice surprise to experience authentic Hungarian food in Sarasota. Delicious! Only disappointment is they didn’t have the Gundel Crepes. We will have to go back for them in the near future. The pics tell it all!

Welcoming staff, absolutely delicious Hungarian Food!

We are from the Poconos visiting my son and daughter-in-law who’s grandparents live in Sarasota. We decided to come to this restaurant because I’m from Hungary and wanted my family to experience Hungarian food. Atmosphere was beautiful. The staff was very friendly. The Chef/owner, Tamas, came to our table and we shared stories about our Hungarian background. Food was absolutely phenomenal!!!! The Fish Paprika’s was the best I’ve ever had!! All of our meals were excellent!! Highly recommend this restaurant. 5+ Stars!

Best European fine dining we have had in years. Made us feel like we traveled to Europe and was very impressed with the food. Everything was so tasty and delicious. Wonderful staff made sure we had everything we needed. Huge wine selection. Worth every penny we spent to eat something so tasty. Thank you for the wonderful experience. We will definitely be going back again to try more delicious meals. And if you like breakfast meals, be sure to check out their other restaurant called Sunnyside. So lucky to have such an excellent fine dining place with that European fare here in Sarasota.

I knew very little about Hungarian cuisine. Wow, what a great experience. The food and presentation were excellent. This is a fine dining experience right here in Gulf Gate.

A sweet little restaurant with maybe 8 tables, Hungarian specialities on a small menu with pricey but intriguing offers, like pheasant in fried crepes with delicious sauce. I also had the stuffed cabbage, which, to my surprise, was DELICIOUS, seasoning and texture PERFECT. Great service, a two hour experience, a violinist serenading from one corner, Beatles tunes in his repertoire.

Being Hungarian Im always looking for a good viable Hungarian restaurant I ordered a veener schnitzel which came very dry and with parslied potatoes that were much better than normal. I was however disappointed in the presentation I had some other friends that ordered food and had nothing to do with Hungarian Fair. Hungarian cooking is one of the most flavorful cooking out of all the Western European countries unfortunately they kind of missed a point on a few of their items and substituted more with American type foods

We had dinner here during a partnership dinner between Tokaj and thewinetobuy.com. The crab cake was phenomenal.

Delightful Hungarian cuisine with a romantic flare.

Fantastic food, and the champagne was delightful! The chef really does know his flavors - reminds me of my grandmas cooking (she was the best!). We found out about Tokaj from the breakfast restaurant, Sunnyside Cafe. I had the best waffles I have ever had - hands down! And the fries are handcut and delicious. Highly recommend the chocolate layer cake - we get a piece every time we go, and then a piece to take home. It’s that good!But anyways, Tokaj is wonderful, and just has some very creative and delicious meals. We’ve been a few times and will be back time and again.

Very good restaurant that offers nightly specials that are fantastic. My wife and I had a bone in veal that was cooked perfectly. Our waiter , Zoltar, did an excellent job!

My girlfriend surprised me with dinner at Tokajs for my birthday. The food was unbelievable. I can honestly say that it was the first time in my life that I had liver and wanted to ask for seconds. If only my Mom had prepared it like this back when I was a kid. 😂 We will definitely be back. The menu has so many Hungarian dishes that I cant wait to experience. Try it for yourself, you wont be disappointed.

This is a cozy and upscale Hungarian restaurant. The menu is extensive and the food quite good. Tables are a bit close but not uncomfortable. Noise levels can be high. The chef was very accommodating to special requests. Live violin music added to the charm. Some parking is available in front of the restaurant.

A cozy restaurant with live music. The food was incredible, I had the vegetarian risotto. The owners are kind and we enjoyed our conversation with them. The chef brought our toddler out a dish of strawberries (he asked me if it was okay firstwhich made her so happy. We will definitely be back.

Excellent food, service and presentation. Make no mistake, this is upscale, fine dining. Not a "grab a bite" Gulf Gate restaurant for the bar crowd. Appetizers, entrees and desserts are perfectly prepared. The chef will work with you and is familiar with special diets. Outside bottles of wine were welcome with no problem. Im looking forward to trying fresh grouper next time.

Food was fresh and flavorful. We had dinner with appetizer and desert. Everything was delicious. I had the tenderloin steak and my wife had the rissoto vegetarian dish. The chef knows their craft well and the sauces in the dish brought out the best flavors. Try the fresh locally made Eszterházy cake for desert. There was live music, violin, which took the experience a notch above anything what I would have expected. Will visit again. Thank you.

Today I returned to Tokaj and tried the pork with Paprika dill sauce. Amazing!!! The desserts are so fresh and authentic European! Wonderful experience with a violinist playing live music in this quaint yet sophisticated spot.

Tokaj provides an authentic Hungarian fine dining experience. They consistently provide unique and delicious meals and the freshest of ingredients. The staff is welcoming and very attentive. I definitely recommend the pistachio crusted grouper and they have wonderful pasta dishes. Love Tokaj!

What a fantastic restaurant! The ambiance was great, the hospitality was amazing, and OOOOOOHHHHHH that food. For an appetizer my wife and I shared a Hungarian Crepe which was amazingly cooked, but surprisingly the outside was fried, beef in the middle, and it was topped with this fantastic white wine sauce that I believe was mixed with a bean sauce, exquisite in every way. For the main entree I ordered a Mangalica steak with Foie Gras on top of it. Mangalica is a Hungarian pig that is rare to find outside of Hungary, so I was up for some adventure. Let me tell you that combination of Mangalica Steak w/Foie Gras topped with that amazing White Wine Bean Sauce left me breathless. They even have an amazing selection of Hungarian wine which you NEVER see and their "Titi" wine was a beautiful red blend that was on par with any French or Italian wine.

Excellent food and service in an unexpected local. Small intimate restaurant with only 10 tables but definitely upscale. Pleasant atmosphere, good service. Well go again soon!
