Tirpitz Museum - Museum in Esbjerg, Denmark
Brilliant. Really interesting
Nice place, but would like more war history
Wonderful museum, so much to see and an amazing amber collection. The cafe should not be missed, lovely food and drinks at reasonable prices.
Avoid to eat there. It is expensive and waiters arent very nice. The visit is not very great it is very boring and has not sense because you can know everything about amber but nothing about a bunker.
Great museum. They have a great sistem for foreign tourists to listen to the stories from museum. Great idea 5*****
Interesting exhibitions, unique atmosphere, amusing to little kids and adults alike.
The highlight of the vacation according to my 4-year old.He told me that he might as well just live there since he loved it so much.
A huge experienceUnfortunately I find the focus to be to much on the experience, and to little on the history and knowledge.I hope that the experience may inspire young people (to whom it is heavily angledto seek more actual information.Update.The museum has very good service.I had forgotten my sweater. They had it in lost & found and will forward it to me !
Great museum about World War II, personal stories and description of the bunkers. The In addition, there is an amber museum. Fine architecture, but unfortunately a lack of fresh air inside the museum.
Very interesting! A German underground bunker, you will be told stories about the things you see via a small device, like a mobile phone. Great for young and old
Nice museum with a combination of history, war, and nature exhibitions.
This is a quite smalle museum but i love entering the old german bunker and get a view into history, I would go ifølge the weather is bad and spend an hour or 2
Little bit disappointed, expected more from the bunker
A great place to stop if you there for a quick tour or your there for more than 2 days its slot about world war 2 but also other things it has a system that tells you things that you scan and a good amount of things you can interact with
Very interesting museum with several collections. History of Denmark, the Tirpitz bunker, Amber, the Atlantic Wall and the last mammoth, the first man. You can easily spend several hours here.
Considering that the museum is built around a WW2 heavy coastal battery, there is surprisingly little information about the battery itself. Instead this is limited to some rather informative but limited audio guide installations about the function of the gun site itself and life during occupation as a whole. There wasnt even a sign leading to the second gun site. Very little effort is dedicated to the battery as a whole and the function of coastal artillery and instead the museum lacks focus with exhibitions about completely different subject matters. A unique location, but disappointing compared to Hanstholm.
I loved the museum. Great place to learn about the regions evolution from ice age till today and the way WW2 shaped the life of people in the region.
One of the most interesting museums I have ever visited, great stories about south western Danish history, the amber part was especially nice, and the WW2 history part showed WW2 showed a different angle of the war rarely told, a must visit in Denmark
If you are nearby then you MUST see the Tirpitz museum. Its super cool and built with love and lots of high tech. The bunker has freaky sounds, the mammoths are animated, there is a digital fire place. Every 30 minutes they have an amazing show. I went with my little son and we enjoyed it greatly.
Wow I was not expecting such a huge and interactive museum underground. Great history lesson
Very impressive museum. I especially like that there are five different exhibitions and two that focus on the history of the bunker and people affected by the war. Very good storytelling, voices telling realistic stories of the time. Some of the audio snippets are challenging to listen to, especially for highly empathic people.
Its a tiny museum. It can be perused in its entirety in less than 3 hours. I dont want to be mean, so Ill leave it at that.
An architecturally interesting building nicely hidden in the terrain next to an old bunker. The museum has very well made exhibitions that change from time till time from the ice age to WW2
Very well designed museum by Bjarke Engels Group for Tirpitz Museum near the Danish West Coast. Great exhibitions about 5 different times in historie with focus on the World War II period and the building of the Tripitz bunker.
This Place is more than interesting form the historical perspective. It’s a totally modern place in a impressive architecture. The museum and the underground and light architecture is one of a kind. There’s some permanent Installations and a big monumental 4d show in the one Room. You really need to visit this player if you can. Also food and the souvenir shop is filled with pretty high-class stuff.
Fantastic place! You can get there by public transport, which is great. Cafe is great, exhibits are great - concrete, WW2 bunker, bet and Danish west coast. Amazing building and 4 great books published by the museum. Lots of kid friendly exhibits. Cloak room and toilets downstairs.
Megalomaniac! The Tirpitz bunkers were a last megalomaniac outgrowth of the Atlanik Wall. In 1944, the German armed forces began construction of two gigantic artillery bunkers for coastal defence. It was intended that a 38cm SK C/34 gun turret would be placed on top of both bunkers, gun turrets that were originally designed for the Bismarck battleships. The artillery was never completed as the 19.63 meter long, 111 ton guns were too heavy for the bridges in Varde and also because the war was over. The renovated bunker museum opened its doors in 2017; it houses three permanent exhibits (An Army of Concrete - West Coast Stories - Gold of the Sea). Well worth a visit!
Nice experience …😀A place with interesting things to see. The delight of the visit was for us the 3D movie from the big room. I will gladly return next time👍
The location of the space right in the middle of nature is wonderful. The architecture / design of the spaces including lighting solutions is fantastic. The audio guides and the personal stories are very helpful to learn about experiences people had. The vegetable burger in the cafe tasted very well. Thanks for a very good learning experience.
Its a beautiful landscape south of Blåvand lays classic attraction in the shape of Tirpitz. One of the biggest gun positions in the Atlantic Wall during World War II was meant to be placed at Blåvand. It was never finished, though, as the war came to an end before the construction was complete. Through two decades this ruined bunker was a popular museum but in 2017 it was replaced by a new museum containing four large sections with separate exhibitions. The roof is planted with lyme grass and the whole building is camouflaged as part of the landscape with the bearing parts of the construction hidden under the sand.
Brilliant and current museum / bunker. Exhibits about 2nd world war, amber and the local geo history. New modern buildings are semmlessly merged with this historical bunker. Highly recommended visit.
Tirpitz really surprised me positively! The bunker and the additional exhibitions was very interesting, and communicated to catch the attention of both adults and kids (9 and 13 years). The audio-guides provided small stories for different areas of the exhibitions.
InterestingThe museum is built around a 20metre unfinished cannon which fortunatele never was finished.IT is thought provoking and scaring to walk inside the huge weapon and consider what could have changed the outcome of wwII.The museum is focused on five themes All related to the history of the Danish West coast.
A nice experience, very educational and a beautiful piece of architecture. Heartbroken to later find out we missed the centerpiece of the museum - nobody told us about any 4D movie nor were there any signs to be seen.
Great audio guide, a lot of information and stories of real persons. Not that much information about the war itself. If that was the intention it was a job well done. Very local.
Outstanding modern bunker museum designed by Bjarke Ingels.
Did only walk outside and can deff recommend that. The architectur is beautiful and well implemented in the nature...
So nice, everyone can enjoy.
Was ok but nothing special. Walk outside, the view is not too bad but really nothing much to see. Within 15mins were done.
Very nice museum, centered on the pilbox construction and usage during the WW2. It has also a very nice section on amber, with plenty of showcases and explanations. It has a very impressive emplacement for a battery of naval guns in a turret like construction. Be aware that the address on the website (Tirpitzvej 1cannot be found on Google maps, but try instead Tane Hedevej and you will get there. In the COVID-19 period you must have a reservation with an associated time slot.
Very nice and modern museum that is actually capable of making you want to learn more.
Must see, unique blend of architectures and nature, content made interesting for both adults and kids.
Sadly we didn’t realize you had to book online beforehand but did get to enjoy the outskirts of the museum. It is highly recommended by the locals and many friends.
Although the bunker was never finished and the guns were never installed, this part of the German Atlantic Wall still is quite intimidating. Expect a fine audio tour instead of text. Wait for the impressive 4d movie. Bonus: the collection of amber, found on the westcoast of Denmark.
Beautiful designed museum by BIG architects. I really loved the interactive exhibitions and how you get information via the audio set. We learned a lot about the WW2 in Denmark and the how life was in bunkers in general. Very impressed by the scale of the bunker itself.Tip: you can walk around the museum in the dunes and enjoy the nature.
Not only for the history buff, there something for the whole family. The exhibit about mines where very interesting and puts a perspective on how mines where deployed during ww2. The bunker is just a small part of the exhibit. Highly recommended.
Very interesting exhibitions about the sea and its powers. But the highlight was the old bunker and the architecture build up around it. Sublime!
Love this place! And want to go back again for sure. The architecture is great and the exhibitions are really interesting. Quite a mix of different exhibition topics: local history, second world war and amber - all presented in a very clever way. The bunker itself is really interesting too....and the the cafe of course - nice food and drinks selection. Our kids really enjoyed it too!
Great place, dont miss it!Modern facility that will not only introduce you to the construction of the military buildings, but also give you a glimpse into the world of western Denmark 🇩🇰 through the times, with special emphasis on world War 2. Meet typical people from that time and learn what they thought and how they lived. An audio guide controlled by tags on the walls will give you all details using the language of your choice.Entry is not exactly cheap at 125 Kr. per person, however children are free until the age of 18. Parking is free. There is a second parking available that is just a 5 minute walk away. All in all money well spent.Hints: come there early, to avoid the lines at the entrance (see 📸 photo. Bring your own headphones to make best use of the audio guide. Take your time, dont jump too many displays, it is well worth it.
Bring your own prefered (wiredheadset if you have one. When tickets has been bought, you will get handed over a dongle, which will be activated each time you hold it near a "wifi" tags. Your headset can connect with the delivered speaker dongle. That way you will get better sound, and you will not get a sore arm :)Should your kids get tired of all the story telling, there is a room full of paint books.
