Burgers & beers offered in a low-lit, wood-lined space with a small stage for live music.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this little hole-in-the-wall bar/restaurant!!! Always great service, music and food!!!
Place was dirty very tiny it stunk floors and tables was very sticky the speakers sounded blown not wort the stop in
My second-favorite bar in Grand Rapids. A place I dont quite ever want to leave.Great bands, beer, and burgers. One of the only places I can get a Black Label. They recently acquired Blackrockss Honey Lav on draft too, which is my absolute favorite beer.
i reconmen’d the beer it made me rofl and lol ,,the waitress was an absolute sweaty not to mention the grub!!!!!
One of the best music venues in GR with bith local and national acts. Guaranteed to be a good show every time.
Amazing music. If its not your scene, its your problem.
Great venue! Wonderful staff, good food. Best dive bar Ive ever been to!
Great little bar with a fantastic music scene. Small menu, recommend their burger! It’s a fun place with a good vibe.
Great live music in a small place. National acts stop here.
Great bands.Petty, sad bartender and owner.
West Side staple. Love this place, the people who go and the people that run it! Hope it sticks around for a long long time.
Fun little place with great staff and really good burgers. They had amazingly talented bands that night. (and quite the lineup to come!Live music always wins.
Good experience. Highly recommend. Good food. Kitchen open late. Band was playing, Jimmy and the Mortals. Had a great time.
If you are looking for a venue with a fun dive bar vibe look no further. This intimate setup is a blast for live music, good drinks, good food menu and kind staff. They do have a vaccination card required policy or a proof of a negative covid test within the last 24-48 hrs or no entry. Which we appreciated such safety precautions + care for our health + well being!
Favorite West Side gem. Been going here for years. Best place to see local music and meet fun people. The bartenders have always been nice too. Its been a minute since Ive had their food, but if I recall correctly, their burgers are pretty on point.
This spot is a modern day gem! Classic garage band bar, with awesome shows always swinging thru!!
Live Music - local to national music - awesome staff - great atmosphere - the best burgers around - beef locally raised at Shagbark Farms.
Such a fun place with good music. Good service and beers too. Needs chicken wings or fried chicken on the menu but outside that, a great place!
The staff is great and they always have great music. Try the Alaskan Wild Wings in a combo basket! Thanks for keeping the music going during the pandemic. They are still requiring masks to keep their guests safe and per regulations.
Had a fund raiser here for our kids school, very cool space and there was a live band that played here. Can get loud for the space but good selection of beers. Servers were friendly and helpful.
Sweet sweet vibe. Great burgers. The band was out of sight! Mark Hummel is a wizard on the harmonica. Junior Valentine opened and he definitely has soul. The bartender Theodore was a riot as well!
Great bands are booked here. Give great thanks to the owner for keeping a live music tavern alive!!!
Kaylie is the best bartender. Always on ready when we need drinks. She is a great cook whenever ive order burgers. Just cant say enough. She makes this place great!!
Went there during their "Hamburger Happy Hour". The burger was great, simple and hit the spot. I am looking forward to trying other menu items. While the space seemed small while empty, and they host a lot of bands and events, I plan to check out their events.
You expect this place to be a local neighborhood dive bar. It has some of that vibe in a good way, theres also national and even world famous acts booked here. An eclectic fun kind of place to get a variety of music.
Great place for a variety of live acts. The staff is always really great and treats their patrons very well. As someone who has also played this venue, they also treat the bands that play there very well. I cant speak in regards to the food as I dont believe Ive eaten at this establishment but am told its good. The drinks are very reasonably priced.
Nice staff, interesting motif and love the vinyl night music.
Tip Top is a cool little bar with live music every night and great specials. They have great new food items on their menu too that are delicious. Jacob is one of the best bartenders there too and can make you some yummy shots, so make sure to say hi to him when you stop in!
Our Bartender, Zoe was fantastic! She is the reason we will return. Havent had that great of service at any other West side bar! Live band tonight.Typical dive bar, good drinks, good food, GREAT service. Recommend.
A fun dive bar. Decently priced drinks and good entertainment. Bathrooms are a 10/10. And you can usually find parking. They also serve food late which is always a plus!
Came in for the first time to see some friends jam on Sunday Jan 13th, the bar is small but set up just right to enjoy the music as if you were at home. Love this little place and Ill definitely check this place out again.
Came here after a wedding up the street with other wedding guests. Had a fun time even though we looked out of place. Everyone was very nice and we had a great time with good burgers. Yeah, we ate again.
The music scene is fantastic, here. The food is straightforward and delicious. The staff are friendly. On busy music nights, it gets packed. Be ready to get close to strangers and make new friends. Super friendly and inclusive crowd.
Had a great time at the Doghouse. Good food, great service and very clean They had Weekend Adventure playing last night and it was so good we stayed till closing. Get out of the city and enjoy this special place. We will watch for this band again and be back with friends!
Nice little no frills dive bar. Decent selection of beer and liquor. The staff members are friendly. Small area for concert audience or dance stage.
Really cool joint on the west side! Lots of fun live music shows and different theme nights. Decent pub food and beer selection, could improve non-alcoholic drink options. The burlesque shows are awesome! Would love if they had a veggie burger and an 80s night.
Overall the venue was in a lot better condition than initially anticipated. I love the venue when it comes to showings. We actually went to see Davina and the Vegabonds and it was like having a show right in your living room. What I did not like, however, was when I ordered a burger, I waited a half hour and still hadnt received it. Went up to the bar and she said she couldnt find me even though we made eye contact multiple times. But she did refund me and get me another one in a timely manner, so I was happy with that service. Great group of people running it there, I look forward to going there more in the future.
Dive bar with a good mix of local bands pretty much every day after work. The food is tastey and the atmosphere is fitting for what used to be aa rockabilly bar and is now a good matinee venue. If you work 1st or 3rds and want to date someone, this is a good place to get a concert in your packed schedule.
Food is delicious. Music is varied and awesome. Service is decent, though when its packed, it can be slow. Its worth it, though. The burger is locally sourced from the happy cattle at Shagbark Farm, 1/2 hour away. The chicken strips are easily the best Ive had. And the fries are addicting and still good cold. The crowd is warm and friendly. Shows have been known to sell out, so get tickets if you plan on going. Show up early of you want a seat. Expect that the room may fill with folks standing or dancing and that may change your quality of view. If you can, just join em. Make a new friend. All people are welcomed. Hug someone on your way out the door.
Great little venue. Its a seedy little juke joint with a very homy feel. We listened to some great live music and drank some reasonably priced draft beer. If I heard that a band I loved was going to be playing there, I wouldnt hesitate to get tickets. I get the impression they have music in there frequently. Ive only been there one time, but would return if I was in the area.
This quaint little neighbor bar is the perfect spot for intimate setting. Was in town for an event decided to check out this place. Can get a little crowded but the bands were off the chain. Thank you Terrible Lovelies, Four Lincolns and The Sauce for your live music. Had a great time. Will be back.
I absolutely love Tip Top. Cheap drinks, great environment, and the best live music venue in town. Check out the Sunday Funday Matinee every Sunday from 3 to 7.
As a venue and kitchy West Side bar, this one takes the cake. Very intimate setting to watch music. The wait staff were very attentive. They had a nice selection of craft beer and a fully stocked bar. This is an old west side bar and looks like it, tucked into this SW neighborhood. However, unlike others, it was clean and welcoming. We didnt try the food, but we might next time. Ill definitely see another show here.
My wife and I along with our friends, decided to come down to watch Desmond Jones play tonight. Just for context, we got married yesterday 8-18-17. So this was our first night out with friends as a married couple. We arrived at midnight. Myself and a buddy went in while the girls finished smoking. While we took our shot at the bar we looked over and our friend was being denied entrance. Very calmly and slowly I walked over to ask the door girl what was wrong. The girl had shaved sides of her head with star tattoos. All I asked was "hey if she can show her nurse ID and birth certificate, will you let our friend in." The staff members response was, "you all need to get the F**k out of here." Absolutely out of no where. Started our entire night out on the wrong foot for no reason. I hope this staff member is dealt with accordingly. Ive never felt more disrespected at an establishment in Grand Rapids in my life. Will be letting everyone I know that Tip Top should not be their first choice for a fun evening. Terrible experience.
It depends on what you are looking for in a bar or tavern. The atmosphere here is not the same as downtown bars. It is not a big room but comfortable. The music is always interesting. Not always my taste but it will always give you something to talk about. The Tip Top is a cool place.
Walked in to this cool little bar on a Monday evening with my wife. The place was had some great posters, nice look, good beer on tap. I was excited to try one of their burgers and a beer. There was a band setting up in the corner but no music playing. There were 2 patrons at the bar, 2 what i assume was staff behind the bar, other then that the place was empty. We didnt get greeted so we sat ourselves at a booth and talked a while. Over the course of our stay a couple more patrons walked in and got a beer at the bar.Ive been to a lot of bars, biker bars, gay bars, grunge bars, some very rough looking places. I dont think I have ever felt so shunned. One bartender walked in back while we were there and never came back out, the other seemed not even to want to look in our general direction as she looked board and uninterested in anything, never coming out from behind the bar. After 30 minutes without a beer, word, or even glance from the staff we left. On the way out i checked the hours of operation thinking perhaps we got there before they opened. They had been open for nearly 4 hours.
Small bar with shows most nights of the week. They offer a few craft beers on tap and even have a small kitchen. Always musician Ive enjoyed both playing and seeing musical acts perform here. The sound system is great even if the stage is a little small.
Great live music venue! Great Michigan beer selection....I suggest sticking with cans & bottles, draft temp wasnt good last 3 of 3 visits. Staff sometimes not so great but if I like the band that wont stop me from coming in!
Great music, good bar food and lots of fun!
A rad little dark, old school, punk bar. Full of old and new punk rockers and true blue collar workers. I mainly go to see bands play, and its always well worth it. Good bands play basically weekly, and the drinks are good, strong, and cheap. What more could you ask for in a dive bar?
