Timbertown - Tourist attraction in Kempsey, Australia
Had so much fun with the kids. The setup was complete with steam engine era of hotse cart ride, animals and boating.
Staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the Gold panning, steam train, blacksmith, saw mill and pedalo.
Had fun with the steamed train, and puddle boat.
A very interesting and lovely place to visit. Its a great way for people to learn about our timber industry and how Australians lived back then. Much for children to enjoy.
Timbertown back in its Heyday was a cracking vibrant park. Very sad to see the state of it today. Workcover would have a field day if they inspected this venue. Olds buildings Crumbling from Termite Damage. Decking around said old buildings crumbling under your feet as you walk on them.toilets absolutely filthy.Place is slowly Collapsing before your very eyes. Needs a Major injection of cash to give this place a Facelift. Very disappointed as I said earlier, in its heyday, this place was cracking and a hive of activity. Not anymore and to justify $28 a head to gain entry. Sorry. Won’t be coming back here any time soon.
What a let down this place is. The place is so run down and in desperate need of repair. Most of the verandahs on the cottages were broken and covered in sheets of MDF and the railings and ceilings on most of the others had collapsed. The rooms you could see inside of were covered in dust and mould and badly stained bedding and rusted cutlery etc. The train ride takes about 12 minutes including a necessary stop to get firewood. There is no signage anywhere to indicate the duration of the ride. After a walk around and seeing all the damage and disrepair I could wait to get out of this place. Its definitely a hazard. We were also forced to listen to Slim Dusty on repeat whilst walking around the old "town".
Visited this attraction today, went to get get coffee and something to eat only to be told unless I was in a bus group they couldnt serve me come back in 20 to 30 mins. When this was mentioned to the staff member at entry to the park her comments were we are short staffed there is a group you will have to go back later. Some of the older buildings we looked in were looking unsafe to enter. There were a number of buildings that look great they have been painted and very safe. The church steps were very unsafe to stand on.i hope that in the future these unsafe buildings can be repaired and brought up to the standard of the other buildings. Many signs in gift shop saying dont touch toys. Decided to look through timbertown and bypass supporting their cafe. I wish Timbertown all the best for the future.
It used to be a great place to take kids to learn history. Our visit this time was disappointing. The bullocks were gone, no place for a picnic lunch, it was like ghost town. The place is obviously neglected and needs some work. Not worth the entry fee.I hope its gets some TLC one day.
The lady at the front desk was rather rude and the place looks run down and there is nothing much there any more. No bullocks and its definitely not worth $28.00 its a shame I remember when it was great. 👎
This was a very enjoyable visit my partner and I had recently to TimbertownThe steam train and the horse and cart rides were great as my partner is very interested in making and looking at steam enginesWe walked around the park photographing different areas from old buildings to old school house and ringing the school bellWell done to staff who were very knowledgeable re the history and local knowledge which was appreciated by us
A disappointing experience! It is very rundown and needs maintenance to many of the buildings and fences to make them safe. The displays in some of the old buildings are unlit and very difficult to see.
I had heard of Timbertown a long time ago, but never had a chance until now to finally visit. The site is a historical village centred around the local timber industry of yesteryear but somewhat rundown. While there are a number of buildings depicting the life skills from the past, we didnt see many staff around and it would have been a nice part of the experience for someone to explain the various facets of life in those days. The craft shop was worth a look, but other buildings only had static displays, some of which showed some items from back then, but didnt really explain what things were like back then. Our highlight was the steam train ride included in the entry fee.Although only 10 minutes for a circuit of the park, the train driver was witty and full of knowledge on the train once we had returned to the station. I was expecting the train ride to include a commentary of what buildings we were passing, but there wasnt one.Unfortunately, the cafe was very expensive.
We really enjoyed Timbertown with our kids. Our kids are 4 and 6 which is a great age for Timbertown. They enjoyed the gold panning and all of the rides. Id definitely visit again
Fun day out with the kids. Well worth taking the time to read the signs! Steam engine & saw mill were fantastic. Shame the bullock train isnt there any more. Great day out.
Very different, well worth the look. Some things didnt look finished and need a bit more lighting in the old homes. Interesting though.
This place was extremely rude when I presented today with family including my children my boy has level 3 autism and because he had a meltdown at the door the guy refused us entry. I would seriously think twice about supporting this place as they clearly have no respect for people with disabilities.. also they do not understand that a child with a registered tasked trained service animal cannot be separated from there person as it’s a life saving medical animal for that child ! Disability act it’s against the law
A great day out with the family. There are $28 for adults, $26 for seniors and $15 for kids. They accept dine and discover vouchers until July 2022. Have a steam engine ride, do some gold panning for $1 per licence, have a horse and cart ride, paddle boat ride with the geese and have some authentic fudge with over 15 different varieties to choose from. Some places require cash so have at least $100 when you visit. There is also a playground and a miniature railway.
Great displays. Steam train & horse & carriage rides were fantastic. Great to see so many other people also enjoying the park in this great weather.
This is an accurate historical location... in the sense it hasnt seen upkeep for the past 20 years. I am genuinely concerned that this isnt a safe attraction. The building appear to have been left to be claimed by the weather and nature. The mold in the internal buildings is extream. I would love for Gordon Ramsay to review this joint.I understand the owners are passionate regarding timber town and this attraction has a strong link to local history, however, passion doesnt equate to a theme park. The train ride was an experience, an experience that i would describe as a train ride through a bogans derelict and car body ridden back yard, I especially like the pause in the middle of the ride where the train was loaded up with firewood in a run down station... nothing like performing maintenance mid experience...This place could be exceptional, I have heard about it in its hey day, but unfortunately, it seems to be doomed to flicker out into a puff of OH&S issues.
So good. Great friendly staff. Old engines galore. Horse and cart too 😍
A lovely day out enjoying yesteryear history and museum pieces. Wonderful staff. Nice food from Cafe. Congratulations to all the volunteers on a great job. Loved the Arts & Crafts Shop.
My partner and I recently spent a wonderful day at Timbertown. The history on display and simplicity of life at that time is something everyone should be reminded of.The steam era. Gem panning was fun too, first time and I did alright.
2 yrs ago Fun day kids loved itMay 2022, went back, kids had a great day. We spent 3 hrs there. Did the stream train ride twice, ride the small train 3x, did the horse and cart ride, and the tractor ride. Blacksmith was great, and we got some lovely pieces. Panned for gold. All activities were fun and my kids ages 3-9 enjoyed it. Missed the lolly shop, and the bulls. The fudge was great. All staff were friendly. Lovely old feel too the place, well done Timbertown surviving the past 2 years during covid, its been super hard on tourism. I hope tourists and locals return and support this historic park.
Its a nice place depicting life from the olden days. The main attraction is the steam train ride that happens a few times a day. There are other activities as well. Best to visit when the weather is nice.
We camped next door! Which the camping was quite good, ammenities were great. A little hard to get a hold of the caretaker via phone as he works in the park too.Timbertown was great this was our second visit, this time taking our 2yo son. So much to do and see. It’s definitely a step in the time machine back in history. The steam train schedule was a little all over the place. But a great ride for the adults and kids!
Excellent day-out option for a family with members of all ages, especially kids. Very good value for money tickets which are all inclusive. Within this place is also the whistle top cafe which serves great food. Ample outdoor parking space
Great place for children and adults alike. Steam train and all rides included in the low entry fee and only 21mins drive from the centre of Port Macquarie. Wonderful place, with steam train rides, tractor rides, horse and carriage rides, working sawmill, paddle boats, turn of the century school, church, cottages, barber, fire station and even a Winery !
Nice place for kids and family to have fun, immersive experience of a old cultural town. A lot of activity included in the entry ticket, reasonable price. A few animals are available for watching, other exhibitions include such as old car, treehouse and working tools. Took a few rides and were very interesting. Easy to book as well. Since we are on a relatively unpredictable roadtrip with lots of last minute decisions, this place is one of the easiest one to book if you can’t plan ahead.
I would highly recommend Timbertown for an awesome family day out. The children loved all the rides from the steam train, paddle boats, tractor ride and mini train ride. We also loved seeing the animals. Well worth the visit and a short drive away from Port Macquarie 😁
Overpriced ($28 per adultbut exhibits are enjoyable if you haven’t visited before. Park is run-down, and isn’t much of what it used to be.Better for young children than adults.Make sure you bring cash because they hardly accept card at any of the exhibits/restaurants.
Fantastic place to visit to learn about the history of Australia. The steam train ride was great and the horse and carriage was entertaining. The guy in the tavern was really friendly and great to chat to.
What a fun day out! Plenty to see and do for young and old. Steam train ride was a highlight as well as gold panning with the kids.Horse and carriage ride around the park was entertaining. On sight cafe, ice cream shop and souvenirs.
Excellent insight into living in timber country in the 1800s. Definitely try the steam engine train ride and the horse carriage ride. Theres real functioning blacksmith and home-made ports. Miniature steam engines and actual items used a long time ago
Good place to visit with kids n they will enjoy.....so many old things to see n we enjoyed horse ride steam engine ride n tractor ride
Enjoyed our visit to Timbertown. Yes, prices were on the high side and place is a bit run down, but the train ride and horse carriage rides make it all worth while.
The place is very ran down and dirty ,also the building have cob webs inside and one of the building were locked and the mini train wasnt working . The place is to expensive for what they had, also the gift shop is expensive one little toy train is $30. There is nothing to do , the only good thing at Timbertown was the horse ride and the steam train ride . I wouldnt recomend you going to Timbertown ... Im very disspointed ☹︎
A pretty old theme park.26 for all play items.Worth to go. We enjoyed the paddle boat, little steam train, horse carriage, and bought a very special sourvenir.
I’ve been visiting Timbertown for over 12 years and have very fond memories of coming here in my childhood with my family.I still very much enjoy coming here but unfortunately in the past few years I have noticed the standard of some of the things have downgraded significantly. It’s pretty obvious that the “ rooms” are falling apart. There are cob webs everywhere and just generally looked like it wasn’t being looked after properly. The rooms are also very dark inside so it’s hard to see in properly and because you can’t access the room and can only view from afar you can’t see everything in the room properly.Another disappointing aspect we found was that the Lolly shop was closed and now replaced with a knit wear type shop. We were looking forward to visiting the Lolly shop so it was very disappointing to see that it’s no was longer there.I definitely think if Timber town was able to receive a make over, clean up, and perhaps a few extra things added they would definitely receive more visitors.Things we did enjoy though was the animals and the train ride. It was great to still see some of the same animals there.Over all, I do recommend visiting for anyone considering it. There is a restaurant inside it where you can get food and drinks.
Step back in time at this beautiful place.Very authentic and in fact most buildings and transports are originals.Must try the steam train, mini train, horse carriage ride and tractor ride. Also dont miss Casper the Cockatoo. He can talk!Ticket is all inclusive so its great value. Will return.
Well worth the visit. Its surprisingly effectively done. Theres a charm to this place that big shiny corporate branded attractions just cant match. Just enjoy it while you can!
Had a fun ride on steam train, historically right on the money.Set up more for families with children than adult visitors.Still worth a visit if interested in early Australian settlement.
Went Friday. Not everything in operation but was most interesting. The Steam Engines and the friendly operator were most interesting. Train ride around the complex fun. Only let down was having a long walk down hill and back up. If youre agile not a problem but I went slow and steady.
Great place to visit. Nothing there if weather is too hot. All activities are canceled/finished (which is understandable because heat is crazy). Although if I would know this prior to going there I would probably postpone or came earlier. There is no info on their website. Place has great potential.
I went here when I was a little boy near 20 years ago and recently returned. We had the most enjoyable day and the place is similar 20 years later. They offer so many things scheduled throughout the day to keep everyone busy from children through to adults. Today we attended near all of them from gold mining to whip cracking wine and port tasting live music and our favourite the train which is the highlight of the park a beautiful old fashioned locomotive. Highly recommended to anyone within reach or driving through.
Great place to take the kids. Plenty of things to see and do. Reasonable admission fees covers all rides. Food was of good quality and not over priced. Will visit again.
A neat stop. This place has quantity over quality. There is plenty of authentic 1800s steam and oil machinery, era buildings, etc. The grounds are quite large. Great for kids and adults. Lots to see and do. Unfortunately, things are in a slight state of disrepair. Still worth it to visit.
After visiting last week, its disappointing to see that the place is looking very tired and run down. The place was almost a ghost town and exhibits such as the church and the school youre unable to walk into anymore. Although it was a let down for me who had visited when I was a girl, my daughter still enjoyed the step back in time.Staff were extremely friendly, cafe was reasonably priced and servings were large. The entry free of $25 was a bit steep, however upon reading the back of the park map to they have a 10yr restoration place starting Feb 2019, I was happy to pay to help contribute keeping this place going.
Took my mum here, we loved spending a few hours here checking out all the stores and displays on the holiday was really fun. Great to see all the history, the blacksmith makes little trinkets on the spot and there is food on sight.... would reccomend for locals and travellers passing through.
Great fun and educational. Watching the Bullock team work is great as is the stock whip class is. The trains are fantastic along with the steam sawmill, blacksmith puts on a great show the winery has some great port and dont miss a ride on the horse draw carriage.
Sadly Timbertown could truly do with major support and investment into overall improvement and site maintenance, to restore this once popular theme attraction to its former glory days. Some of the buildings act as museums and house memorabilia of a bygone era which is difficult to view, and in their current state detracts significantly from the historical authenticity. The admission price of $25.50 an adult feels a little rich given first impressions of whats on offer. You can comfortably see and experience everything within 3 to 4 hours. Most memorable for us was the steam train ride, made more funfilled by chatting to some of the wonderful staff who are clearly passionate about their art, crafts and trades.I recommend taking a bottle of water with you and stopping off to visit the ice creamery when visiting on a hot day.
