Suites add separate living areas.A breakfast buffet is complimentary. Other amenities consist of a restaurant, a bar, and meeting and event space. There's a gym. Parking is available.
After travelling almost 20 hours from the USA, the ease of check in was much appreciated! The room looked like it was recently remodeled and even though it was in the modern Scandinavian style, very cozy. The breakfast buffet was excellent!
Stayed at Thon hotel whilst waiting to join Hurtgruten Polarlys. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. Would be very happy to stay here again.
Weve had stellar breakfasts all over this summer. Really delicious raucous affairs of eggs, bacon, and pancakes. But the breakfast at the Thon is simply the BEST breakfast you can get anywhere. There is no better way to put it. The beetroot shot was thee icing on the cake. My wife wants me to comment on the wonderful assortment of fresh produce berries and the layout was inviting and well designed. We need to mention that we only took the breakfast as we were camping in the area but we fully intend to return one day and will have a stay at the Thon. 10/10🏆
It is right next to the water, with a great breakfast.Kirkenes is a great place to experience life in the north of Norway. Thon hotel was great for us because we could go to the Snowhotel for one night and Thon for the other night, to complete the experience. It is right next to the water, so get a sea view. The breakfast was great and the transfer to the airport excellent.
Really nice hotell.Friedly helpfull staff
Friendly staff, clean rooms, great food and an Amazing view
Didn’t stay here, but came for some dinner and a drink twice. Food excellent. Staff super friendly and nice, and gave me free coffees. It is often the latest place open in Kirkenes. It was expensive, but in Norway everything is expensive…
I am a world traveler but I can honestly say this is the best breakfast ever!!Gorgeous presentation…open kitchen..Fresh orange juice and They even had Beetroot juice with ginger shots! And this at the end of the world!Nice start of the day…Leonora Nieuwenhuizen
250€ one king crab… are you serious???They put QR code on crab, species who invade and destroy local coast 😂Where is QR code on each fish? For this price, you almost go for boat safari tour where you catch king crab and eat it!Ridiculous…
Perfect spot, view of the seaNice and quiet. Friendly staffBreakfast is beyond your imagination.Nice bed with the best down duvet.Wine glasses and coffee makerSomething you must try
Clean room, enough space and beautiful view on bay, if your room have even number.
Was just in the restaurant, witch only had a few items on it.The food was Okey, but just that.
Disappointed, expected more from Thon. Reviews from Google made seem like it was worth paying more for this than the Scandic, maybe that is true as we haven’t seen the Scandic. However, given the price we paid, and the brand Thon, we expected better. Service was unhelpful and should have been more solution-orientated. Bar/restaurant was shut on the Sunday yet they were serving an event in another room so they could have opened it surely? Food was expensive and overpriced anyway. (* Note: I’m used to Norwegian prices, these were something different, but Kirkenes in general seems to hike up prices for tourists compared to other places in NorwayTo end on a good note: super clean, big thumbs up to the cleaners 👏🏻 🧽 🧹
Very nice rooms, well equipped. Restaurant food left a lot to be desired. Overpriced food, badly executed.
Hotell room was comfortable to stay at. Hotell staff was very service minded and polite. I really liked that you could turn off the lights from the bed. The bed also had 2 pillows which was nice to have. The room had a water heater and a fridge and the shower was big and comfortable. Only thing that was negative was that the gym closed very early and you had to book the gym before you could use it.
This is a very hip hotel right on the water. Full restaurant and bar. Rooms in Norwegian decor and color. Attentive staff. Village is just up a small hill. Amazing breakfast. Did not try restaurant.
The hotel was better than expected. Very nicely decorated, room had everything I needed and a comfortable bed. Really nice to see that they have USB ports on the side of the beds. Breakfast was top notch, amongst the top 5 I have been to in Norway. I really recommend this hotel!
Nice hotel, big assortiment during breakfast. Rooms are clean and nice. View is also great on fjords side.
The hotelchain is nown for their great breakfasts! This hotel has an amazing view! My experience is that the staff makes it really worth the stay:)
- Comfortable beds, clean room.- Seafront views for dining.- Dinner and breakfast are top notch.- Stylish modern decor.-The king crab dinner (good for 2-3 pax & takes 1hr preparationcame on a wooden board of salad. The freshly boiled meat was sweet and meaty. The grilled version was topped with melted cheese and was savoury. You get to pick which crab you want from the tank. Each crab has a 2D barcode and you can find out about where it came from & the fisherman who caught it.- Otherwise try the chilled coldwater prawns that are plumb and sweet.- Good selection of beers and wines.- Staff is attentive and very friendly.- Large area with free outdoor parking.- Close to the mall.- Bus to the airport / Hurtigruten.- Excellent base to explore Finnmark.
Great room with comfortable bed. The room included a smart TV and a bose bluetooth speaker so plus for that.Breakfast is okay but their bacon was extremely dry and some of their tables are very wobbly so you risk spilling your orange juice while trying to pick up the bacon. The bar is small and nice, friendly staff and ok selection of drinks. The hotel is just a 5 minute walk away from the city where youll find some great restaurants and bars.
The best hotel in Kirkenes, probably why it is always full.. especially in highseason. Was only able to visit a friend staying here but it all seemed very new and the rooma were big and clean.
Best King Crab dinner I have ever tasted. Best shower anywhere. Best breakfast in the entire world. Not kidding, been everywhere, seen it all. Puts many, many hotels to shame in the breakfast scene. See my photos. Attention to immense detail is really beyond my comprehension. Such a nice surprising experience.UPDATEWe are now in Oslo Thon hotel (next day), although a more majestic hotel, in immediate proximity to the Oslo Central Station, (250 step, yep I countedwith breakfast still nice, nothing compares to the Kirkenes Thon hotel breakfast. It is a truly sublime breakfast. Bravo to the staff who apparently go far out of their way to provide a unique experience.
Very cosy and comfortable stay. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast spread was good. Location is good. Most importantly northern lights if sighted can be witnessed from the hotel room.
There is no luggage porter. At negative temperatures that is not a warm welcome.Food is only local. If you like it, great, if not ...Room is ok with a heated bathroom.Breakfast is good.
Thon hotel is strategically sited next to the lake. Commands a view into the horizon good for making pictures of the Aurora when sighted. It is common to find small groups of tourists armed with cameras and equipment staking out in the cold just in the front of the hotel carpark.
Just WOW. The breakfast buffet is insane, so wide variety especially love the fruit spread, fresh squeezed orange juice, fruit smoothies, nespresso machines and oh the gorgeous view of the fjords. Went northern lights hunting and was treated to the beautiful lights, even visible from the hotel. Staff were very polite and helpful. Whats not to like?
Incredible shower and bathroom. Gorgeous comfy bed and pillows. Lovely sound of the ocean lapping the shore just outside our window. Great breakfast. Only negative is no lunch option (not even a sandwichbut thats a good excuse to wonder the short distance to town
Restaurant serves a broad variety of food with a local touch. Starting with Reindeer and ending Brown Cheese Sorbet. Service is outstanding with welcoming waiters and fast pace of food delivery. Definable a 5/5.
Very nice hotel next to the water with a great sighting on the bay. Very extensive breakfast with a lot of local products like cheese, whale meat, reindeer salami, etc. They also offer fresh orange juice for free!
Nice, clean rooms. Great view of the bay! Restaurant was good and service had a great attitude! What could be improved was both rooms had the heat set to roast. Also we saw how the hotel "cleans" its open space by taking a hose and spraying all the trash and cigarette butts into the bay, that is far from acceptable!
Good room. Quiet and clean. The restaurant was also quite good. I really liked our server, she was sassy and I loved it!
Maybe the best hotel in Kirkenes. We had a great view of the fjord from our bedroom window, and how wonderful was it to be able to see the Northern Lights from the warmth of our room through the large window! Wed stay there again.
Great place with an awsome location. The rooms are almost perfect. The beds are the only place I would like to see an improvement. They lack comfort. I slept 8 hours and still felt tired. The food in the restaurant was preselected by our charter company. Pricey for what you get. I expected more tasty soup choices. Maybe more gamey animals. But we ate Thai soup and a chicken leg with some spuds. For desert a cheap sponge cake. For breakfast they had your normal spread. You can fill your belly with all the choices they had. Much better then most places. We had a great view from our room of the bay. Which was frozen over beautifully. Windows open up so you can enjoy a nice breeze while asleep.
Nice and comfortable rooms. No noise. Great location close to the fjord. Exceptional breakfast. Somewhat lacking in facilities, exercise room is under construction.
Room was clean upon arrival, bed was big and comfy, and we could open the window to get fresh air! Breakfast was a highlight, with a huge selection of fresh food and drink available. Coffee available on demand from Nespresso machines was fantastic too! Staff were helpful and friendly.
Fantastic sea viewWe arrived at the hotel after disembarking from Hurtigruten; The location, the room & the facilities.initially we intent to stay at Rica Hotel which has more facilities and slightly cheaper but we decided to stay at Thon Hotel in the end because of its proximity to the seafront and slightly away from the town - good decision. The hotel is located on the Barents Seafront and within walking distance to the city shopping centre and the harbour. Our room was on the fourth floor with fantastic view overlooking the shipping highway and snowy mountains on the other side of sea. The room was adequate in all respect; modern, spacious, clean and with a massive TV and faultless WiFi connection. We sometime spend hours during the day watching ships coming and leaving, ships breaking ices and ships been manoeuvred or towed out the port / positioned like airline ready to leave.Restaurant, food & breakfastThe price included Breakfast; the selection on offer are great and of highest quality; fresh fruits, hot pancake, yogurt, selection of cereals, ham, fish, bacon, eggs and more . . .We ate in the restaurant everyday while we were there; we were a bit too lazy to walk about quarter mile to the city centre. The foods were fabulous. Well prepared and fantastically presented. The only drawbacks were the portion and the price. The best is the staff, they really make you feel welcomed and give you the best service and more . . .We stayed for 4 nights in mid February 2013 for Northern Light sighting. My only moans are:Again as with everything in Norway, it was very expensive place to stay for someone with tiny pocket.
We loved the bed very much - Cosy and comfy. Sighted aurora , despite bright surrounding, at entrance of hotel. Sea view was good but cannot leave window open for long as it will damage heating system.
Great hotel on the waterfront. We arrived from the airport along with many others. Only one member of staff checking people in which meant quite a wait, the hotel is aware how many people they are expecting so should really have more than one person checking people in. Staff were very helpful with advise on excursions and helped try to book some for us and suggested alternatives. Room was good except very hot and this made for an uncomfortable sleep on both nights as the window didnt open much. Breakfast was buffet style with reasonable amount of choice but quite cold which was disappointing. Overall this is a good hotel location and view wise and we would stay again.
Great location and very helpful staff. Rooms are very good. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed during our stay (being refurbishedbut we managed to find other good alternatives.
The room is good, but there are some flaws. The shower curtain are to small so the bathroom will get wet. The WiFi is ok. Breakfast is of the better, all in all it was a Good stay.
Nice and comfy hotel. Basic amenities in the room and they are adequate. Friendly staff as well. Room service not available. Food selection (for dinnerin the restaurant can be better, however breakfast is superb! The hotel is by the water, so you will have a great view for rooms facing the water.
Nice hotel in a good location. Modern nice rooms. Smart TV takes care of your entertainment needs. Good breakfast with a chef thatll make you an omelett with the ingredients you want. Plenty of other things to choose from as well. Havent tried the ala carte menu. Short walking distance to the town center and other restaurants.the only bad thing I want to pint out is the internet connection at the hotel. It sucks, way to slow and in stable. Other then that Id recommend the hotel to anyone.
The staff is welcoming. The safari company with which they partner is amazing for King Crab safari.Breakfast is complete and delicious. Room couldnt be more comfortable. Convenient walk to town.
If you ever plan to visit or stay in Kirkenes, ensure that the Thon Hotel Kirkenes is at the top of your list. Location, staff, food and a very comfortable room. Bathrooms are a check point for me and the one in our standard room worked well and had a heated floor.
Nice seaside location. Good standard on the rooms, clean and tidy. Breakfeast is grate with plenty of choices. And last bit not least the staff is really friendly and helpful.
Had a very nice stay here. Room was adequately equipped. Bed was comfortable and provided a restful sleep. The breakfast in the morning is quite nice and has many options to choose from. The only downside was the restaurant inside the hotel. Food was not satisfying and over priced even for Norwegian standards
This is my second time staying at Thon Hotel Kirkenes. The room is clean and has standard utilities. It would be nice to have a liquid soap in the shower instead of soap bar.Overall staffs are generally friendly except at the reception desk which I dont feel welcome and not quite to accept his attitude the way he answered me. Thats so not professional and not service minded.
My choice of hotel in Kirkenes. New, modern, reasonable priced, good location and very good breakfast. I recommend a superior room with ocean view. Restaurant is good with live king crab, but a little bit pricy.
Its clean and tidy with all the basic facility. There is a 24hours tea/coffee self service area down stairs. Breakfast is very good
