We had agood walk thru thompsons bush week days are best time to go needs alot of work doing there but still nice place to stroll thru good place for kids to play

Love walking through the Bush listening to the birds.

Great experience. Run through here regularly and always enjoy it. The tracks are week maintained, the playground is in good condition. My only criticism wood be that the track could be signposted better

Best place for family picnics

Great walk fresh air with a dog on a nice day.

Lots of Tui prancing through the canopy. The surreal sound of the Kereru moving gracefully through the trees. We strolled for hours.

Love the various tracks through here. They wind back on themselves or take you off in a different direction. Native bush literally on my doorstep 💕

Lots of different short walks to go on with lots of bird life. A lovely area for the kids to play and for families to have picnics. The only issue was that there were some really wet and muddy areas that should have a walkway put over them.

Its an amazing place for kids to run and play lovely music from the birds chirping and I pick some blueberries and raspberries from the bush walk and they tasted amazing me and my dad had them gone in 2 hours making raspberrie sauce and baking and eating them

Great place, shame it takes a back-seat to queens Park, it needs the river cleaned out and a flow system in place for it to thrive, typical council does the bare minimum of landscaping and boring planting, pick up the ball invercargill city parks board

Its a great little nature reserve, a few great walks throughout, suitable for all ages, good little play area for the children, and public toilets if required as well.

Great place to come for a walk. Lots of options of paths so try not to get lost! Small loop tracks that wont take you long.

Wonderfully placed green belted area to escape to from the bustle and hustle of the big city. Toilets are available and are serviced regularly

This is an urban bush area with well maintained tracks Anda good variety of bird life. Council seem to do their best give the limited resources. The condition of the Old Waihopai loop is dispointing.

A wonderful bushwalk in the heart of Invercargil. Very refreshing. Ideal for picnics, short walks and timeout with family.

This is a nice wee Park with some walking tracks that take you through a nice wee patch of native new Zealand bush. There are some nice spots with picnic tables so you can come here for a picnic or bring your favourite takaways to enjoy. There is a river here, but its rather stagnant and can not be used for swimming. I recommend taking a camera, you will have some encounters with some native birds and might see Kereru (wood pigeon), fantail amoung many others. Being nestled in a residential area cats have taken a toll and continue to be a problem woth birds in this area. It also makes the use of pest control very difficult because the likelyhood of indirectly targeting domestic animals. I recommend this as one of the better Invercargill parks and reserve.

Good place for a walk or run or even a picnic

Thomsons bush is a 40 hectare reserve which is the remnants of the Taurakitewaru Forest that once covered all Southland. The Reserve is swampy so be prepared with proper footwear if it has been raining.There are hidden treasures in this reserve. Spend some time looking at the trees which include Matai, Kahikitea, & Kowhai . The birdsong is amazing being this close to town. You should see Tui, Fantails and Kereru (Native wood pigeon). (Definitely will see ducksThere is also a playground for the kids which is agricultural. A bright plastic playground would be out of place. Toilet facilities are very basic. The Council has provided free Doggy doo bags located by the walkway for people walking their dogs as well.
