Set in the 19th-century home of a famed painter, this museum features a preserved studio & artwork.
You must visit the museum with a guide. You will find out a lot of interesting information. It is a beautiful walk in the history.
Wonderful world. Should be visited!
This small, but very beautiful museum, was the first home/workshop of a Romanian artist, and everything reflects his vision. In the main workhop room, I really enjoyed looking at the paintings of the workshop, and comparing the way it used to look then to the way it looks now. The price for a visit is 10 RON, and 15 RON for the photo tax. Cash only.
Surrounded by tall buildings, we find this gem that dates back to 1868 and was both the home and workshop for the artist Theodor Aman. Although it is in the center of the city, once you cross the threshold of the museum, you are enchanted by the atmosphere of peace and the historical charge of the place. The museum includes a rich collection of paintings and furniture made by the artist himself.
Though the building is tiny, it is well kept and filled with incredibly interesting masterpieces of the most talented Romanian artist.Do not miss your chance to learn about the origin of Romanian art of painting and...Go and see for yourselves!
Nice
The most fascinating experience in a beautiful museum with the most inspiring guide today! Its impressive how Aman planned and projected his house, the art work in every room, all the furniture he sculpted, painted etc. Amazing stories behind his paintings. I fully recommend visiting this museum, small, impressive, fascinating, full of symbols. Its a MUST SEE in Bucharest!
Very interesting and wonderful works of art! Its a short visit, about 30 - 40 minutes, as the house has only 4 rooms, but totally worth the time.
It feels like a walk in the past. Definitely something to experience.
Magical place! Everything from the building, decoration, furniture, paintings and engravings are the creation of Renaissance-man Theodor Aman.
Nice artwork for Aman and nice ladies, but we had to pay extra fees to take pictures and it was boiling inside which was inconvenient!
Lovely little museum in the centre of the city, 5 minutes from the subway Piata Romană. And the ticket is only 3 euros.
The art work is absolutely fabulous 👌🏻
Lovely place. I was not expecting rIt to have such beautiful paintings. The visit was according to regulations, in a safe environment. Youll have to come with cash
For peinture lovers, a good place to visit. A beatiful house, freshly restored. It deserves a visit.
An absolute jewel of a museum, the home of Romania’s most important 19th C painter, engraver and founder of a truly Romanian school of painting, though mostly academic. The neo-classical villa is decorated entirely at the hand of Aman and furnished by pieces he designed & carved. Fabulous tile sobe, a fine high-ceiled gallery/atelier & some esquisite small oil-painted scenes on panel make this a delight. Let’s not forget that it was his wife’s money that helped him along!
Visiting this museum is a must. The staff is very friendly, helpful and well documented.
A wonderful museum, must to visit!
A small and very specific museum, would probably not appeal to most, bit of you have seen all the big museums in Bucharest (not that there are too many of those- its worth a visit.
I think that Theodor Aman is the greatest Romanian painter and the museum proves it!
Small but beautiful downtown villa, containing some paintings and Aman’s memorabilia; kind but annoying staff; no parking or wi-fi; very well mantained; photo tax;
The staff were really nice and they explained everything in English. Really cheap and rather quick,it is a must!
A must visit whilst in Bucharest. Lovely staff included
I think I might just found my new favorite painter.Cute little museum with loads of paintings.Photos are not allowed and a picture permit is more expensive than the museum entrance which is incredibly silly. The entry price is very democratic otherwise.
This lovely, centrally-located house is one of the finest remaining old residences in Bucharest, although blink and you will miss it, hemmed in as it is by tall blocks. Built in 1868 as a home and studio by painter Theodor Aman it includes a vast number of Amans work: the many murals and frescoes are not the least of these. Founder of the first arts school in Wallachia, Aman had a complex personality, which is reflected in every detail of the house. Look out too for the exterior decorations, the work of sculptor Karl Storck. One of Bucharests oldest museums, this place has been welcoming visitors since 1908. A charming place, and really something of a museum.
Amazing place filled with culture, paintings, and other intersting objects. Located in the city center it offers an hour of pleasure for art lovers. The staff is very friendly.
Loaded with history detailing the issues România has had to endure.
Original works from Romanian painter Theodor Aman. Superb location, outstanding artists works on display, ridiculously cheap admission. Very much recommended!
Amazing paintings and wood carvings
A small museum with lovely art and history.
Small museum and if you are in for looking at old paintings with a high level of detail, then this a good place to go
Very nice gallery art and museum, with a lot of interesting things. The guide are very nice and she really knows how to catch your attention.
Very cool, cosy, twisted little artsy place! :)
A very surprising experience for both Romanian and foreign visitors, with tons of information about such an underrated genius - Theodor Aman. Completely worth visiting.
A place that you will always love to visit
Amazing gem hidden in the city. Everything is at superlative : the house, the painting, the guide and the experience. You cant afford to miss it.
Excellent choice for spending some weekend quality time! Great guides and beautiful art!
Theodor Aman was one of the greatest Romanian painters. he was knighted by Prince Stirbey and presented with a scholarship to continue his studies in Paris, where he came under the influence of the school from Barbizon. He was the first director of the recent opened Romanian school of Fine Arts.
Very nice and impressive museum.Mr Aman was a very talented person. He painted even the walls, not just paintings. He also made gravures.Very stylish.Small but deserves a visit.
Small museum featuring the works of Theodor Aman. The museum is in Amans former home. You can see his studio as well as some of the furniture he designed and crafted. Unfortunately none of his living quarters are open and there is only very little information available.
One of my favourite museums. The miniature paintings are delightful and the architecture is exquisite. The villa has unfortunately lost its 19th century park, but you can still get an inkling of how it looked back then.
Amazing place to visit. As for the guided tour in order to find out all the details and make the most out of your visit.
Lovely place with may interesting paintings. And staff is extremely friendly and helpful (and of course very knowledgeable on Aman). The place is small, so a visit does not take much time. But for me it was a highlight of my stay in Bucharest...
I like to think this is the house where modern România was born or at least the idea of a modern state. All the important people of the 19th century were the guest of Theodor Aman, the famous Romanian painter. Here, they have grown inside their hearts the passion needed to break the chains of the Ottoman ruling and to build a new eliberated state. More on this topic you can find by simply asking the guide for more details about the house. I guarantee that everything will change for you after you’ll hear the stories. Only the ground floor is available for visits, so the time spent here will be around 30-40 minutes.
The building is a unique example of 19th century neo-classical. It housed the first artists studio in the country, which is well preserved. The museum has an excellent collection of crafted furnishings and paintings by Th. Aman. Its a small museum so I would definitely recommend take the time to visit if around the area.
A little lacking in info and no photos allowed but a beautiful place.
Get the tour guide, it will be an amazing experience
Must see ! This is one of the most charming museums of old Bucharest ! The house itself is magnificent and it belonged to one of the greatest Romanian painters of all times. The building dates back to 1869 and was erected by the design of Theodor Aman himself. It contains a lot of his paintings together with the original furniture also sculpted by the painter himself. The art collection includes many remarkable art objects, musical instruments and beautiful Spanish furniture from the 17th century, original from the house and very well preserved. Theodor Aman also designed the outer decorations of the memorial house, the highlights of which refer to the sculptural works representing Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.
Very good visiting destination for foreigners as for locals. A step into the Romanian history of art. Decorated rooms and a large part of the artists paintings. You can discover some other paintings in The National Museum of Art on Victoriei Boulevard. There is an interactive QR code guide and you can discover more online.
A small chic museum in the city center, with a very entertaining pallet of paintings, drawings and sketches of one of the greatest Romanian painters of all time.
