Plush red and gold Georgian playhouse with tiered seating and a painted ceiling for acclaimed plays.
Wow, awesome, funny, fun performance of Fishermans Friends the musical. First time visiting this theatre & its a gem. Intimate, beautifully maintained with original feature but with very good disabled access. The staff could not have been more helpful with my mum & her wheelchair. Thank you
Always have a great time when visiting here. Staff are helpful, the building is lovely, and the first night performance of "Fishermans Friends The Musical" was fantastic.
Amazing Theatre, seen lots of shows here, Great Atmosphere, wonderful little Theatre (cozy)
Great theatreThe drinks system during intervals was superb, a short orderly queue and efficient ,Great detailing and decor inside adds to a lovely experienceWell worth a visit.
Very nice theatre with comfy seats, we went to watch ‘Friendsical’ which was entertaining and the online booking process was super easy.Would definitely recommend.
Amazing theatre but too cold - brrrr. Would love to see proper milk at the bar
A big thank you to the box office for changing my seats from the previous Saturday. I know the tickets were restricted view but actually the seats were terrible. The brass handrail was obstructing the view & you missed 3/4 of the stage. Thankfully there was some action in the upstairs of the play but to charge £38 per seat is a bit too much I thought,so be warned when booking.
This is something special. What a theatre. You need to go to get the atmosphere of a live performance. Add to that we saw "Noises Off", full of well known stars. A classic British farce, I was in stitches.
Had a fab time. All staff very friendly and helpful. Seating was excellent and temperature in the theatre, just right. And of course the performance was excellent!
An excellent performance of Noises Off. Wonderful cast. Lovely Theatre.
A great place for an evening out. Just seen Noises Off by Michael Frayne with a brilliant cast, including Felicity Kendal. Lovely to see something in this beautiful old theatre, expertly restored. Good front of house service. Easy parking in Charlotte Street Car Park nearby, and plenty of options for eating out before or after a show nearby.
Our first visit. Smaller than I anticipated but made the experience more intimate. Looking forward to other performances.
Great little theatre that attracts quality performers. There are two wheelchair accessible seats available, both with good views, and helpful staff to make the experience hassle free.
It is a relatively small theatre that has a lot to offer. How they managed to navigate the huge props of Into The Woods still boggles my mind.
Lovely theatre. Looks so small from the front, but bigger inside, like a culture TARDIS!Had a brilliant evening here seeing Into The Woods.
On a trip to Bath. Took the time to take in "Into The Woods". Most excellent. I wont ramble about the show, as shows some and go. The Theatre itself is well maintained and staffed by helpful and pleasant folk - unsure if they are paid or volunteers as in some theatres - either way, they are a credit to the Theatre Royal. If youre in town and you get the chance to drop in for a show - do so. I cant guarantee the show will be good, but the surroundings will be.
Into The Woods fantastic production. Congratulations. Looks tremendous and very moving. Up with the best. Pity about the poor and distorting amplification in the first act - many of Sondheim’s brilliant words lost. Sort it out before you transfer to the West End. Then you get 5*.
Did the back stage tour today. Very badly organised. Tour coincided with work on the set so couldnt visit stage, back stage, below stage or above stage. All we saw was the foyer and auditorium. No pictures allowed. Total waste of time and money. Very, very poor.
Had a wonderful night seeing in to the woods with my mum. Staff really helpful and great seats
We are regular visitors and love coming back. The current production of Into The Woods is amazing. Didnt really know what to expect, but its funny, bonkers and the set is Very clever.
I just saw ‘Into the Woods’ here. The staff were amazing in helping everyone settle. Cast and crew of ‘Into the Woods’ were incredible! They did such an amazing job of the show. Such an amazing musical!
Gorgeous theatre, helpful staff, and brilliant actors gracing the stage — super fun experience. Ill visit again for another play if I return to Bath.
Buy tickets at your own risk!Performance cancelled with less than two hours notice, "because of positive Covid test".We travelled a considerable distance, booked a hotel room, cost and inconvenience of which will not be refunded.Everything else in Bath seems able to function despite Covid; bars, restaurants, cinemas, supermarkets, hotels, buses, railway, everywhere heaving with people - but not the theatre.Utterly pitiful; why still testing when nobody else is and everyone who wants is vaccinated? If insistence on testing, why no back-up plan for the inevitable positive test?Management appear to be entirely useless, an impression reinforced by the decision to send the minions out to deal with irate customers whilst hiding themselves safely elsewhere.
We had a great time. Friendly staff, comfortable seats and a great show as well. They do need to do something about the chairs making so much noise when moved on the stone floors in the cellar bars. I could even see the staff wincing. But that didnt spoil the experience and we will definitely be going again...
If youre coming to Bugsy Malone, skip it. So many issues its hard to know where to start.First, this is not a professional production. This is a high school talent show so parents can clap for their own children while paying £40+ per seat. It is put on by the Julliard for the Untalented. To start there were Box office ticket sales issues. Who doesnt make it easy to take your money? Front of House was a cascade of poor service, no knowledge, and meandering stories of lies.Second, there was a Surprising lack of warning on basic theater issues including gun play and strobe lights. Odd because Britons like to lecture on gun deaths, but then memorialize American gangland streets of Chicago during prohibition. Anti seizure warnings are normally as common as no peanuts on British Airlines flights for productions with strobes, but all missed.Theatre unable to determine which lie theyre going to tell due to delays. First it was a technical issue, later the director "Sam" admits casting problem. Then they complain people out of their seat when they delay show more than 45 minutes..Would not serve prior to curtain, but curtain still delayed 5 minutes. The acting is so poor the actors have not been taught to stop talking when theyre getting applause. The stage timing necessitates the question do we even have a stage manager because actors run on and off without purpose and interfering with scenes in progress.Voices and instruments pitchy were pitchy. For these prices I expect performers who can...perform.Fizzy only voice close for singing beyond Blousy. She needs to develop, but can sing. Fizzy has some potential but lots of work to do. Also if his character is going to be a dancing man wannabe some more lessons are appropriate before he demonstrates a near seizure like ability to not dance.Voices were anti-Italian. If a white actor portrayed a black child similarly to a black actor faking an Italian accent the noise would be enormous for racism. The reverse occurs without consideration for the obviousnreverse racism and worse the actor didnt have the ability to even execute the accent. Ugly, but a reminder that the No Italians Need Apply signs from years past are not just historical memories, but alive and well in some hearts. The entire show relies on adult special effects to fight for adequacy. Whether be it thunder/lightning, strobes, props, and of course music.Tech issues...fizzy running across stage breathless/mic wind issue. No something at end of play causing redo and performance stoppage. Unprofessional. From the audience a comment there was a "concerted effort to put young children in main parts" clearly despite their inability to perform at that level.Ironic to have a character telling her beau shes leaving because he was an hour late to a rendezvous when this performance had the same problem of starting an hour late. After sludging through this junior high talent show Im still unsure it ever started.
We enjoyed our evening at the theatre. It has beautiful interior. My favourite was to see the star-studded photographs of extinguished actors performing. They are hang along the wall and make it very atmospheric.
To celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary we spent the weekend with the family in Bath and on the Saturday afternoon went to the theatre and saw a magnificent production of Murder on the Orient Express. Brilliant acting.
Went to see Murder on the Orient Express. Excellent show with the cast displaying a brilliant performance. Drinks and snacks fron the bar were very reasonably priced. Staff where helpful and friendly.
Lovely old theatre in the heart of Bath. Beautiful inside and out. Quality shows all year round.Friendly, helpful staff.
Went there to watch Murder on the Orient Express. Lovely theatre, amazing staff and amazing actors! The play was almost 2 hours and every minute was amusing. Will definitely go again.
The theatre itself was lovely but unfortunately the show we went to watch should never have made it to the stage. If this is the standard of acting that is regularly performed here then save your money and wait for your local school performance.
Really couldn’t fault anything. No queues at theatre. Booking online was simple. Staff were great and enough of them. A beautiful theatre 🤗
A lovely theatre. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Bar area is very impressive. Seating is comfortable and plenty of leg room. Went to see Catch me if you can. Very Well done and kept me guessing. Gray OBrien and Patrick Duffy very good.
Watched Cluedo here! The show was quirky but good entertainment. The seating was good and the general atmosphere was great. The toilets were clean and the bar area was good and the queues went down fast.
Enjoyed a darkly humorous experience on Sheilas Island. Each of the four actresses were very strong. Play provides powerful insight into corporate team building., dysfunctional personalities and relationships exposed. The underbelly of mental health, emotional bullying, Christianity, faith, materialism and bird-watching. All that and very funny. Recommended
Saw The Play That Goes Horribly Wrong, best thing Ive seen in ages. Theatre was ok, seats were comfortable. Long queue for ice cream at half time! Located centrally near bars and restaurants.
A beautiful theatre which offers great views from all sections. We were lucky to be in row C of the stalls which almost felt like we were on the stage itself! The temperature was good and I didnt get a numb bum once so the seats must have been comfortable too!The bar, situated down some stairs off the corridor offered a good selection of drinks and an interval ordering service (no, its not to order an interval!I paid £7.50 for a large glass of wine. Sauv blanc, chenin blanc ,merlot and malbec all available by the glass.Loos were functional and served their purpose.A couple of different exit options made the end of show mass exodus a stress-free experience also.
Wonderful night at The Theatre Royal. This was our first visit and we were shocked how beautiful the venue was. Really lovely night. Small(ishseats but thats to be expected with a venue of this age. Accessible toilets, friendly staff. Great location.
We watched Beautiful - The Carole King Story and really enjoyed it. There were plenty of attendants to help us find where we needed to go, and our seats had a good view (even in the upper dress circle!). There was a big queue for the ladies before the show.At the interval the bar service was very fast, drinks were very expensive though (£3.20 for a soda water with lime!).
We were staying over the road in the Z hotel and saw Gryff Rhys Jones playing “An hour and a half late” so chanced ourselves front row of the circle on their last night. What a lovely quaint theatre it is. The show had me laughing from start to finish even though the stuffy guardian critic gave it 2 stars I was still chuckling at the jokes the next day. Definitely worth seeing a show in this jewel of a theatre.
Pretty little theatre with very helpful and friendly staff. Clean facilities. Toilets and refreshments available. Parking nearby. We went to see animal farm and found it to be very entertaining. Would revisit and recommend.
Went to see Cinderella, the pantomime with granddaughter. What a wonderful performance in a lovely theatre. Very professional and a great evening out.
Welcoming and friendly. I got upgraded and ended with a good seat enjoying the production , the drinks were organised in the interval. Great production. Would go back again
One of the most remarkable theaters Ive been to in the UK. The theater is small, and has two levels, hence the echoes and resonances were really nice. It is a nice way to spend the night in Bath.
We are visiting Bath for my birthday and this was an impromptu decision. We saw a fabulous play called Crimes Action Camera. It was totally innovative and very amusing. The acting was fabulous. Totally enjoyed the show.
So nice to be back for real live theatre in this wonderful venue. Comfortable seats, good views and clear sound. I do enjoy this theatre. The staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful. A lovely experience, and I will return again.
So wonderful that live theatre is back. The Theatre Royal is a delightful traditional theatre with a consistently engaging selection of productions. The theatre is intimate, so all seats provide a good view and the acoustics are good. At present the audience are requested to wear masks as seating is not spaced with empty spaces between audience members. We had an excellent evening and the whole audience rose for a standing ovation at the end of the play.
We had a brilliant evening. The staff were very good at enforcing safety and social distancing while being friendly and helpful. The Play That Goes Wrong was also amazing. The whole family was in hysterics throughout the show.
A great place to experience theatre, good acoustics, friendly staff and a really nice ambiance. The seating can be a bit cramped and access along the rows not easy, but the plus side is you can be really close to the stage and even at the rear of the stalls you are closer than in many west end top price seats. There is a restaurant and bars for pre-theatre food and drinks in subterranean surroundings (the old vaults), while these places have a great atmosphere they are totally impractical for disabled guests as all involve steps with no lifts - yes I know the age and style of the building is a limitation but I would think at least one of the areas would be accessible?
Lovely theatre in the heart of Bath. Pretty decorative features and traditional ice cream/bar at interval.Comfortable seats, great views from almost all seats.Went to see a Christmas pantomime (snow white and the seven dwarfsfor the first time in years with family and it was hilarious.
